As if on schedule, a post just appeared in RelationshipAdvice wherein a guy is asking how to handle the fact that he discovered that his 40-year-old best friend is banging his 19-year-old daughter.
Predictably., nobody is calling the
girl'swoman's choices into question. Quite the contrary: everyone is going out of their way to tell the guy that his daughter is utterly blameless and has done nothing wrong. The friend, however, is clearly a groomer and a pedophile and the police should be called because there's NO POSSIBLE WAY that this didn't start before she reached the age of consent (we don't know what that is because we don't know where they are).Once again, a man gets blamed for not treating a grown woman like a child, although we must never question her right to full adult autonomy.

Most relationships don't work out. If they have a fallout, then I'm either losing my relationship with my daughter or my best friend.

It's definitely a bro code violation. The point I'm making is that the usual suspects are twisting themselves into pretzels to declare her to be both an adult with full sexual autonomy and the victim of a sexual predator who is preying on a child.
The fact is that she chose to have sex with a man who is the same age as her father, and if one of us told her that she doesn't have the maturity level to make that decision, we would be declared misogynistic incels who want to enact "The Handmaiden's Tale," but when a guy gives her what she wants he is declared to be a pedophile and a groomer even though she is well into her legal majority and probably even farther past the age of consent.

I feel sorry for the dogs. :-) I adopted a street cat who was a year old. Best cat ever. He convinced 3 other families to also get cats because he was such a friendly, good natured cat. Although puppies are cute, they can be a LOT of work to house train and train in general. I'm sad when I see so many families who don't properly train their puppies and struggle to handle them as dogs. A well trained dog is worth (literally) thousands of dollars.

The same people who would be upset by someone who is a legal adult be in a relationship of her choosing would not see any irony in having this same woman be allowed to vote, sign up for 6 figures in debt for an "undecided" major, and sign legally binding contracts. If a woman can be given those other choices that could greatly affect her life, why is she suddenly a helpless child when she chooses to date a much older man?
And any woman who would get into a relationship with Leonardo DiCaprio and thinks that she would get a different result is foolish. Clearly, he has no desire to remain committed to one woman, so his current girlfriend will be his former girlfriend in only a few years time. And speaking for myself, I as a man will not see a woman who would make such a decision as someone I would regard highly or desire a long term relationship with. Either she is a fool for thinking she could get him to change, or she is a thrill seeker wanting her short lived excitement, showing that she is not a marriage minded woman. So, is such a short lived relationship where nothing is sure to come of it worth it? That is a question for any woman who has a prospective chance to be the next girlfriend. Perhaps we should ask his former girlfriends if it was worth it.
