Yep. A 20-year-old “businesswoman” who already has a net worth of 3/4 of a million dollars and makes upwards of $300k per year would totally market herself by using a picture she took in the mirror of a bathroom in a cheap apartment.

I'm currently reading a book about hard-currency shops in Stalin's USSR. These had a tendency to attract black marketers and prostitutes.

The shops in Black Sea ports also provisioned foreign ships. Since foreign sailors had real money, the shops frequently had brothels on the upper floors or backrooms. Among the sailors, there were a few actual communists, and since the USSR supposedly no had prostitution, this prompted a few upset letters to the Comintern.

The complaints went to Moscow very quickly (they attracted the attention of OGPU head Yagoda), but Moscow was very slow to act. And the changes that were made were very cosmetic, firing a few named individuals and little else was done. The calculation in Moscow's black box must've been that the prostitution was actually worth keeping around.

Reminds me of the arguments made by both Augustine and Aquinas with regard to prostitution's place in society. Neither was in favor of the practice, of course, but both seem to have seen the practicality of tolerating it, whether as a sort of metaphorical release valve for men's baser nature or because banning it outright would almost certainly lead to far greater problems developing as a consequence.

I suspect, as you intimated, the Soviet authorities' tacit acceptance of the practice had much more to do with material than moral or political concerns, though I'd like to think at least a few of them may have been wise enough to have come to much the same conclusion as the saints listed above.

That said, the linked article isn't the first time I've heard of Augustine/Aquinas' tolerant position on prostitution, which seems to grant some small measure of potential corroboration.

Which I sort of knew already, but interesting to consider in relationship/birth control domains.

I found it funny reading my state's law. Adultery is illegal. Homosexual sex is illegal, up to 20 years in prison, but gay marriage is legal.

I read somewhere a while back the chaotic, self-contradictory mess of laws most states have is, if not necessarily by design, at the very least perceived as a positive state of affairs by the Powers That Be. After all, if essentially everything is illegal, it's entirely within the purview of those in positions of authority to arbitrarily enforce those laws against those they consider undesirables for their (that is, the PTB's) benefit.

But when she's in her 30s with depreciating looks, jerks who won't commit, the likelihood of being a single mom, and the social pressure from her married friends, she asks "Where have all the good men gone?"[1][2] Funny how back when she was chasing the bad boys "Being nice is the bare minimum", but now that she's past her prime and needs a bailout, she wants a man with nice guy traits.

Furthermore, dating jerks and riding the carousel before settling down with a good man is planned by many women, and encouraged by feminists. They then come to the dating market with unreasonable standards while offering little to no value themselves. Such women are totally unaware that the mature, stable men they now need are the same decent men they rejected, except these men remember the rejection and are responding in kind to avoid unstable, unappreciative women who view them more as ATMs than romantic partners.

The reason women end up here is because their behavior is not exposed as the lucid, self-destructive, feminist ideology that it is. And we're here to help Good Men guard their commitment and resources by exposing women who would make poor life partners and mothers of their children. Providing observations and opinions on the posts here allows us to better understand women's psyche and later depressive/miserable state when they are not held to a moral standard required for healthy, functioning relationships.
