Summary: Not content with the progress women have made in the workplace thus far, at least one woman is now targeting the next frontier: A long history of office based environmental abuse against women at the hands of their oppressive male overlords. Watch this hamster spin.
Body: Ahh, the big, bad boogeymen, always trying to keep a girl down. The latest scandal of the patriarchy: The office thermostat. According to the author of this article, "Office temperatures are designed for men."
New "research" based on a sample size of 16 women (!) has led this crazy cunt to rally around "Ending the AC double standard." Yes, she actually wrote that. Apparently, women are more comfortable with room temperatures of around 77 degrees, while men prefer temperatures closer to 72. Even the U.S. Government appears to be in on this plot, clearly catering to men by recommending office temperatures of 69 to 73 degrees. Won't somebody think of the women?
The author will, of course, and her solution is simply genius: "Adjust cooling levels to account for women's comfort" and "dramatically slash energy consumption" while you're at it. (Clearly she's never met the post-menopausal vultures at my office.)
There is no mention of men's comfort. I don't suppose that even crossed her little mind.
Even if we find her data realistic (which I don't, but for the sake of argument I'll play along), her big beef is that women in offices can't wear - her words - "a breezy blouse and matching culottes." Instead, they're stuck "swaddling themselves in cardigans and thermal socks." She wants men to suffer in an office that's too warm for them just so she can look cute. Her choice in fashion is simply more important than the men she shares that space with. We gave these bitches full membership in the good old boy's club complete with better-than-equal opportunities and this is how they repay us: Bitching and nitpicking about every little thing and a total disregard for our feelings, desires, and needs.
Let's hope this nonsense doesn't gain any traction... if it does, you'll find me sitting at my desk in nothing but a speedo for a few hours until security drags me out.
xamaru 8y ago
Just saw this exact topic on TF1, the french mainstream channel ! Conclusion was : "according to specialists, women are right because they want to use less energy on AC"...
seiken287 8y ago
The temperature adjustments in office buildings are more of an architectural/engineering issue than simply turning a themostat...
If the air handler is close by you, you're going to have a bad time.
dr_warlock 8y ago
Women are too comfortable. They need drama to live and have a nagging unquenchable need to spout out nonsense to test men. Men being men, they invented things to make the household chores and activities easier and more efficient: the vacuum cleaner, microwave, conventional oven, wash & dryer, sweeper vac, sewage system, the toilet, the sink, the refrigerator, the freezer, etc. The problem is that by relieving women of hardship, they have nothing keeping them occupied and are left to their own devices to entertain themselves. When the environment fails to create anxiety, she will conjure it. Manspreading, gender plowing, patriarchy, rape culture, gamer gate, 'equality in the household chores', etc is all a manifestation of women's need for drama and shit testing.
leftajar 8y ago
This is the correct answer.
When we say, "women are like children," this is part of what we mean. They don't know how to garner positive attention, so they complain and throw tantrums to garner NEGATIVE attention.
Infants and toddlers do this shit. As any parent can tell you, you do NOT kowtow to a child's tantrum; you ignore their bullshit and lay down the law. Paradoxically, this reassertion of leadership calms the child. One could call that, "passing the shit test."
BlackHeart89 8y ago
Before I came across TRP, I realized that during/after an LTR. I was convinced that I would only be able to keep women around if I kept drama. I concluded that I must gain a few side bitches...
I ended up decided to just stay single and plate women. Drama for them, relaxation for me.

The only females that make it to executive level are the ones who learn this valuable skill: keep your personal opinions and drama to yourself.

Indeed. That's why in the Red Pill we say that feminism is "one giant shit test of society".

Aerobus 8y ago
It's sad when you think about it. Men invented and developed so many tools and pioneered new technology, in an effort to help other men and women.
Men have been grateful, of course, but women don't appreciate what's there and stir up drama for the sake of stirring up drama. You are so correct when you say that they need drama to live. All my experiences with women viewed through a red pill lens pretty much confirms the TRP maxim: a woman would rather be insulted than bored.
BetterRedThanRed 8y ago
Just last week I walked on a sidewalk and there were roadworks making the sidewalk a bit smaller.
Two women (~50 yo) walked there.
Woman 1: "These roadworks are here for two weeks already."
Woman 2: "Yes! This is an imposition!!"
The solipsism is real.
[deleted] 8y ago
Lol so in anime when the world is ending and shit, I bet the old ladies are very happy because they have something to complain about and shit.
Aerobus 8y ago
In anime, young schoolgirls feel embarassed when a man sees her underwear and exclaims that she can't get married anymore because of how slutty that appears.
Anime is not representative of reality.
dr_warlock 8y ago
Anime is filled with mangina behaviors. It infested dragon ball z in the movie, "Battle of the Gods". Bulma cut her to the professional indypendent short style. Bulma acts masculine. Super saiyans fear to displease their human wives and girlfriends, walking on eggshells. The great vegeta acts like a bitch. It's disgusting.

In 1913, refrigerators for home and domestic use were invented by Fred W. Wolf of Fort Wayne, Indiana with models consisting of a unit that was mounted on top of an ice box.[6] In 1914, engineer Nathaniel B. Wales of Detroit, Michigan, introduced an idea for a practical electric refrigeration unit, which later became the basis for the Kelvinator. A self-contained refrigerator, with a compressor on the bottom of the cabinet was invented by Alfred Mellowes in 1916.
Perhaps Fred was woman's name back then, or he was actually transgender?
[deleted] 8y ago
My mother always said "If that is your biggest problem, You should be happy"
Where my Grand Mother would say "Stop complaining and do something useful. Take the rifle and go and get dinner"
And my Father "Son, you seem to assume I care about your piss ant problems. Now fuck off and so something constructive"
And my Grand Father would just mutter "Pussy" and walk off in disgust.
Ultimately, these bitches (Not in the sense of just women, but pussy men) shouldn't get such a complaint looked into. Take what strategy you want. I am sticking with my Grand Fathers approach.
...."Pussy"....
Cappaleti 8y ago
This is just another dumb fucking story to feed the men vs. women narrative.
Everyone has their own version of what's comfortable. I'm sure some men like it warmer than 69 degrees in the office. I know I do.
Dr_HoaxArthurWilmoth 8y ago
wear more clothes to work or wear pantyhose and bring a sweater.
DuncanMonroe 8y ago
Wow. That's all I can say. This reads like an extreme parody of feminism.
Stythe 8y ago
I was laughing while reading this. I kind of think the more of this crap that gets pumped out the more people are going to start ignoring it. It's TOO ridiculous.
my_redpill_account 8y ago
AC couldn't be about the computers and other electrical equipment that give off heat that need to be cool to last long and work efficiently.
I mean that's just one of the many factors. They just came up with another thing to blame men for.
You go to work to work. Not be comfortable, or wear a cute summer dress. What about the men who wear suits in this weather, or all year round?
Bring a sweater or something to keep warm.
Man these women are so dumb. There are women getting stoned to death and they're worried about who is controlling the thermostat. Glad they're making themselves look so stupid.
GoodOldCharlieFord 8y ago
Everyone's overlooking the obvious.
If people prefer different temperatures it's better to err on the side of colder, because it's easier to put on a sweater than to stop sweating.
Not that complicated.
[deleted] 8y ago
You just figured out why women have a fundamental problem with it.
KarYotypeStereotype 8y ago
And the other obvious point, which is that we men have no choice in what we wear to the office. We wear wool slacks, an undershirt, a long sleeve shirt, a tie, and a jacket. Women can wear pretty much whatever they want. Only one gender here has the freedom to adjust their attire for the temperature, and yet somehow the air conditioner is the sexist part of all of this.
steelerfaninperu 8y ago
Women and logic don't generally go together.
[deleted]

Thursday088 8y ago

Ok, now, seriously, what is wrong with you?! Why are you trying to solve a problem in a rational way??!? You misogynist!
Purecorrupt 8y ago

Mattpilf 8y ago
The other obvious solution is relax men's dress code so they can wear lighter clothes, instead of making men cause the office to smell like your gym with all the sweat and Body oder. Also hot temperatures make people lethargic, so do super cold temperatures, but that more in the 40s than 72.
[deleted] 8y ago
I've worked in an office that allowed women to wear capris and dresses-- but would send men home for wearing shorts. HR was called out repeatedly and, suddenly, changed the dress code after someone called their lawyer friend.
648262 8y ago
Here is the plan: raise temperatures, make men smelly, get them fired for lack of hygiene. Women win all.
rebuildingMyself 8y ago
And nothing is stopping women from wearing pantsuits instead of fuckme blouses and skirts. But they want to be sexually harassed (by Chad of course)

thiasus 8y ago
That'd be a solution if the person in question were interested in one, but here the point is to get published and get some press for presenting something outrageous which will however find its inevitable glut of retarded support. Rationality doesn't enter into it.
[deleted] 8y ago
If this is the same article I read a few weeks ago, she goes on to say that, "Women dress for summer, and men don't, so why should the women have to suffer?" That is not a direct quote, just a shitty summery of it.
BetterRedThanRed 8y ago
Because it is a workplace and people are supposed to be dressed for work.
You can dress for summer on the beach.
[deleted]
TRPn00b 8y ago
I shit you not, this argument probably helped lead to the failure of my marriage. In the summer time we would fight over differences as small as one degree F on the AC setting while trying to sleep. 75 was the absolute max I could stand, without even a sheet.
Now I sleep with with it at 68 or sometimes lower, and a winter blanket. Bliss.
Hit enter too soon edit: It sounds silly on the face of it, but several weeks/months straight where one person or the other is cranky because of a shitty night's sleep will take a toll on a relationship over the years.
NidStyles 8y ago
At least I am not the only one. If it's above 73 I wake up in the middle of the night sweating like crazy.
JackGoldsteinWrites 8y ago
My LTR and I sleep in separate rooms... people think it's weird, it's actually a life saver.
TRPn00b 8y ago
I've read about some studies that find this works really well, actually.
Surf_Or_Die 8y ago
I'm the opposite. Below 75 and I'm walking around I jeans and a long sleeve to feel comfortable. I remember in college I always had a hoodie in my backpack even if it was 100 degrees outside cuz inside the ac was blasting and I was freezing.
TheCarm 8y ago
As a Florida boy who webt to college in DC, I almost never went without some sort of jacket... figures my roomates wanted the temp turned to 65 all the time so i just enjoyed the feel of a hoodie even at the gym... women just cant fucking adapt and improvise to their environment, its not in their programming
veyron3003 8y ago
You should have allowed it, but made her pay for the months gas bill.
BetterRedThanRed 8y ago
You misread here. His way would be more expensive.
IronMeltsinmyHands 8y ago
I like this idea. If women want higher temperatures they can pay for it.
TRPn00b 8y ago
This was in the summer. Lower temperature costs more!
anon338 8y ago
No, that is trying to reason with them through logic. We know that will not work and is not the root of the problem. This woman was loosing respect and attraction for the guy. He has to up his game, regain frame, dread game, satisfy her hypergamic impulses, leave blue pill stuff behind. Then he will tell her he is uncomfortable and she will give him comfort.
TRPn00b 8y ago
Too late, but if you want, check my post history for "TRP nearly saved my marriage and then I decided I didn't want it to."
anon338 8y ago
Its cool. Thanks.
Yes when the motivations and SMV become apparent, some good reality check hits hard.
getRedPill 8y ago
You are not seeing the obvious. For Marxism and modern "soft" marxism, which feminism is it's most successful branch, there 's no will in solving problems. They just to create more problems and division (it's goal: divide and conquer) by sowing the seeds of envy and confrontation where there's no need to be confrontation.
You might think it is curious that this type of annoying people only exists in Europe, US and developed countries in general. You wont see this kind of strugles or feminists in Iran, Zambia or Haiti, where they are really needed. That's no coincidence. Yes, indeed, they have too much free time and comfort.
tyrryt 8y ago
Comfort is a prerequisite for feminism and all the other sjw foolishness - only when survival and basic needs are guaranteed do people resort to this nonsense to keep themselves occupied.
People who really don't know where their next meal will come from or who have a legitimate fear of survival don't have the luxury of holding screeching protests over the use of the word "he".
[deleted] 8y ago
This is called "critical theory" and it's the crown jewel of social Marxism invented at the Frankfurt school. In a nutshell, it consists of endlessly complaining about what is wrong with the system, and making problems where there are none. When enough people become complacent in this type of victim based thinking, eventually they blame "the system". The system is whatever group is perceived to be in power: capitalism, patriarchy, white privilege, etc. Once the system is blamed, it will fall via revolution and Marxism will take it's place.
[deleted] 8y ago
I love Red Pill but that is the biggest stinky load of shit I have seen here for a long time. It's a first world capitalist "individualist" culture problem.
Fucking unbelievable. People read some fucking books from other countries & not just make shit up.
It's as insane as calling Obama a socialist.
The guy is a capitalist shill who got the mass of Americans making mandatory payments to private FOR PROFIT corporate insurance companies but people go around calling the guy a MARXIST, COMMUNIST & SOCIALIST.
It marks a person immediately as being uneducated.
OmegaParticle 8y ago
Individualist problem? Have you ever talked to a feminist or a social justice bigot before? There is no individualism there. They're basically codependent collectivists. The problem is not individualism. The problem is the growing trend in interdependence and collectivism. Individualist cultures have higher respect for basic human rights, and progress at a much faster rate scientifically, technologically and morally. There's a "fad" in our culture where everybody thinks individualism is the problem and collectivism is the answer. I think it's one of the underlying causes of our culture's decline.
[deleted] 8y ago
Yes, I have talked to many. They all exhibit "own special flower" characteristics.
-Individualist cultures have higher respect for basic human rights, and progress at a much faster rate scientifically, technologically and morally.

648262 8y ago
There is absolutely correlation between the idea of classless societies and equality between genders though. And it just happens to be that they're both dysfunctional.
[deleted] 8y ago
Modern feminisme is definitly a branch of socialist thought. Their insistence on being allowed to decide over others and the lack of belief in personal freedom, marks Them as opponents to liberal free markets and capitalism in general. That is also why feminism is most often radically opposed to capitalism.

Lol. Yeah the ongoing attempt from many TRP'ers to marry their political ideology to the amoral / apolitical rules of the SMP. Indeed, These are the same people that call Obama a socialist / Muslim / etc.
[deleted] 8y ago
I'm sorry but you are plain out wrong. There is a Big difference from acknowledging the political roots of feminism to claiming Obama is a socialist. However, if you understand how the politiical history of America has shaped convictions Then you would see why some people Think this way. There is a deeper political discussion behind some of the things people say, even if they are not aware of the roots of the watered Down ideas they hold.

Put some clothes on, ladies.
[deleted] 8y ago
Anyone whose worked in an office will tell you that women complain about temperatures all the time. However, women have much greater options in their wardrobe and are solely responsible for being comfortable. To blame this on men or anyone else is pathetic, albeit not surprising
mrmeyhemn 8y ago
perhaps she would prefer to "slave over a hot stove" instead of working in an office?

Haha. With women, the interval between too much and too little of anything has a width of zero.

Every office has a fatty, who insists on it being super cold because they are covered in mounds of fat.
[deleted] 8y ago
Have you ever worked in an office? Its always a constant struggle between the men wanting it cooler and the women wanting it warmer. My advice to the women if the office, maybe if you actually wore enough clothing to fit into the dress clothes policy you wouldn't be so cold all the time.
Claude_Reborn 8y ago
Offices I have worked in, always had at least 1 fat ham who always complained the aircon wasn't cold enough.
I mostly avoided the issue, because my system was usually linked to the Server room, so separate thermostat
max_peenor 8y ago
Meanwhile men get cooked during the winter when they crank up all the heaters. I say we make a deal with women. We will set the temp halfway between those numbers. In the summer, women can put on a light sweater to keep warm. In winter, men can strip naked and jiggle their balls around in the open air so they don't get too sweaty.
Compromise, right?
N_the_U 8y ago
I work shift work and have let all my co-workers (male and female) know that I own the thermostat while I'm on shift and it will be permanently set to 68 degrees all year long. I was challenged for thermostat-ownership once, during winter, and just opened my office window and left the door open. The challenger relented and bought himself a sweater vest and a space heater.
19thcenturywhiteman 8y ago
I was just thinking about this article when you posted it. One of the "researchers" even said that part of the reason is men wear suits and ties. and women show cleavage. So maybe women should wear the same amount of clothing as men??? But no that's slut shaming.

tallwheel 8y ago
Apparently J.C. Penney has the exact same "no shorts" dress code for both men and women, and somehow the dress code is 'sexist against women'. You can't make this shit up.
EDIT: J.C. Penney does deserve some blame, though, for putting those clothes in the "career" section.
hartke20g 8y ago
Honestly though, all it would've taken to avoid that whole debacle is reading the employee handbook if you're really not sure if short shorts are professional or not. Hell, just ask yourself "have I ever seen someone who isn't a lifeguard wearing short shorts on the job?"
And trusting the department markers about what is "career" clothing and what isn't is pretty dumb in itself. I've seen parkas in the "summer" wear section of stores- stores in south Florida.
[deleted] 8y ago
Yes it's JC Penny's fault! Don't they women are children and can't pick out their own clothes?
[deleted] 8y ago
Ikr? Every single department store Ive ever seen has the same dress code. Khakis and a collared tshirt the same color as the companys logo. Maybe shirt and tie if youre a supervisor.
Why? She wore a "career" clothing to a minimum wage, department store job. Thats not a career.
[deleted]
sardinemanR 8y ago
Yeah, like men WANT to wear stuffy shirts and suits.
No office I've been in enforces the dress code on women. So either you get rid of the dress code for men or at least you put in some goddamn A/C, especially in the summer.
But my solution is even more sensible: either kick women out of the workplace again or at least segregate them. Mixed workforces have been an unmitigated disaster.
I've run a small business before, and women are the absolute worst workers I've ever seen and cause ridiculous office drama where there doesn't need to be any. At least one week out of every month they are even more inept than they usually are. If you have several female employees they can be awful all month long. It is funny in a way.

[deleted] 8y ago

RedBigMan 8y ago
You mean glass floor... retardation is something that's a downward direction not upward.
Acx3 8y ago
Analyzing my joke through a non-contextual, strictly linear-oriented approach has caused you to misconstrue my paradox as a contradiction.
As we all know feminists love to define "the glass ceiling" as an upward threshold which is desirable for everyone to surpass but unlikely to be overcome by women even if they work in an efficient and productive manner. I humorously used this view on the glass ceiling concept to liberally reinterpret the effect of intelligence magnitude on where one is placed on the IQ bell curve. SO a high IQ = less mental retardation (Glass floor) ; Low IQ = Higher mental retardation (glass ceiling). If one wishes to think like a feminist, especially like OP, they must surpass the glass ceiling of mental retardation which humorously should be especially difficult for women to overcome (Given how most women do not fall into the extremes on the IQ chart).

If she went to her boss with the suggestion, "why don't use less AC and see if we can save some money on power without losing work productivity" she might have gotten her way, a slightly warmer workplace.
Instead she had to frame it as, "turn up the thermostat otherwise you are a woman hater" and turn the whole thing into a big deal where the boss is now damned if you do damned if you don't.
neptronix 8y ago
Women have a ~25% lower metabolic rate than men and typically have less thermal mass to buffer temperature changes, since they're smaller and shorter. I don't blame them for complaining about it.
As for me, i went from 270lbs to 185lbs in a year and noticed that i am way more sensitive to the cold. I live with 2 women and set the thermostat to 75 degrees as a compromise.
These problems are easily solved and do not require drama fits to figure out.

Fleetwood_Linux 8y ago
When I was younger, I always got put in the hot, sweaty, manual labor jobs outside. I wanted to work inside in the office, but that was always for the ladies. Inside had no bugs, no backbreaking work, the same or better pay, access to the bosses, and that glorious air conditioning.
Holy shit, if the AC is just a little too cold, maybe consider going to work some of that backbreaking and dangerous work outside. There will be a young man, very happy to take your place.

It's shit like this that makes people revert to the anger phase.
merkmerk73 8y ago
One thing to realize is that you're better off with people being chilly than hot
People who feel too hot are far more irritable and there's nothing you can do about it. If my office is almost 80 degrees I'm miserable and sweaty and disrobing isn't an option.
If my office is 55 degrees I wear a jacket and I'm fine.
[deleted] 8y ago
This is true where I work, but that has more to do with being an old building with uneven AC. It can easily be 75 degrees in the main office spaces and 55 in some of the conference rooms.
The irony here is that the HR department is always the first to bail en masse when the AC hiccups and the mercury hits 80.
[deleted] 8y ago
And no productivity was lost that day

Standards for comfort in the working environment are set by ASHRAE Standard 55 and are very dependant on relative humidity. The numbers and models might have been developed in the 60s but the standard was updated in 2013. In fact, just looking at wikipedia page for thermal comfort gives 4 different models so this stuff runs pretty deep and gets quite complex. This is an entire field in academics that starts at the master's level in mechanical engineering but I doubt our intrepid author wants to go that deep. Better to just insist that my collection of 16 people's opinions overturns this entire field and all the research that they have worked hard doing.
dromoney 8y ago
This comment should be higher. ASHRAE figured out the range of temperatures and relative humidities that most people are comfortable with inside an office. If you are in a related field I recommend checking out your local ASHRAE chapter and going to a meeting or two. Great networking opportunities and usually an interesting tour and speaker at the meetings.
hirjd 8y ago
Actually one person's opinion would. Can't believe there is such research. I spent one month in vietnam either outside or in rooms without AC and couldn't stand a room temp less than 80F when I got back. When I had AC to sleep I'd set 25C, put on ALL the covers, and turn on a fan. Seemed like a nice combo. And I'm a Minnesota boy who thought 90F was hotter than hell. I'd wear shorts and and t-shirt as soon as snow started melting in the sun. It's acclimation.
[deleted] 8y ago
Vietnam vets told me that. They said they'd wear combat jackets when it was 75 outside.
[deleted] 8y ago
Hello, I'm a 1970s feminist transported to the modern time... And what is this article about?
[deleted] 8y ago
There are mandatory quotas for women in all government jobs, as well as in private jobs quotas exist. There are more women in college than men, as well as scholarships in jobs where women are a minority (but none in which women are a majority of course).
Women receive half the jail time for the same exact crimes, women are outearning young men in nearly all jobs. If there is a domestic dispute, the man goes to jail no matter what, unless he is within in a inch of his life. Women can claim their husband abused them after murdering him, despite the massive spending on women's shelters. Women's diseases get millions more in funding than men's diseases, and women live longer than average on men. And that's not even the half of it. Women are still as useless as ever, men just gave in to everything they said, and continue to do so.
This article is still somehow claiming women are being kept out of the workplace, despite all of the above, but by keeping the thermostat colder...and yes humans are still warm blooded creatures.

Half the women in my office bitch about the environment while running a space heater full bore for 10 months out of the year at their desks. It got so bad that our parent company actually had to ban them because they had almost doubled our electrical costs.
They're almost all in the over-40 set, I have no idea if that has anything to do with their incessant bitching about the temperature.
smokeybehr 8y ago
Space heaters under desks have been the cause of more tripped breakers and fires than many of us would care to count. Just after I started dating my wife, her office had a massive fire, which was traced back to a space heater under a desk left running overnight.
Tarnsman4Life 8y ago
Holy shit this, half of our front office girls use space heaters year round. The other half always have sweaters on.
jaredschaffer27 8y ago
A sample size of 16 women? If you live in any decent sized city in the country, you could triple that sample size in a half hour by just hanging around outside and asking chicks questions.
Hamilton950B 8y ago
She has confused the US with Canada. Canada recommends 69-73°F, the US recommends 68-76.
Also, "literally freezing" would mean a temperature quite a bit below 32°F. Maybe somewhat pedantic, but "literally" is a good word with no good substitute and I hate to see it lose its meaning.
Mattpilf 8y ago
Too late, dictionary already relaxed the use of literally. That fight is over. We lost.
Also I think the expression freezing to death for hypothermia, even in say 40 F gives this use of literally a bit more tooth, as supposed to the much more figurative use of freezing that could be used.
In addition your definition is only legitimate for freezing water(while the most common use) , but something can be cold enough, say to freeze metal, or fats, or a variety of other substances, hence any cold temperatures might be a literal sense of freezing something else. A technicality, but still true, it's lirerally freezing something.
csehszlovakze 8y ago
The word "literally" in this case is a "white girl filler word" and nothing else.

I for one support raising the temperature as our reptilian overlords suggest. The increased temperature of the room working in tandem with underwear heat packets should inhibit sperm production and Gene hijacking. A little discomfort for long term wellbeing.
MentORPHEUS Endorsed Contributor 8y ago
Slightly off topic, my friend moved to a place where propane for heat had to be delivered by truck which was stupid expensive. His wife had a habit of turning the thermostat to its highest setting if she felt cold, and would never comprehend explanations of how a thermostat works and admonitions to turn it up a few degrees and wait.
So he made a circuit that caused the heater to kick on for a few minutes when the thermostat was moved, but then it reverted to the control of a hidden thermostat his wife didn't know about.
In my own house I had the same problem with basically every GF ever, but I was more obvious about it and put a stop screw at 75.
[deleted] 8y ago
Oh my God they're like children

Grompher 8y ago
Stop screw.
Did she figure it out? No ex of mine would have.
MentORPHEUS Endorsed Contributor 8y ago
No, the stop screw was me putting a decisive end to their passive aggressive game of turning up the thermostat to max then denying it or dismissing the cost etc. It was a deliberately obvious oversize screw that went through the cover, backing (not the vitals) and into the wall itself making it tamper resistant as well.
The even better (because it got closer to the underlying problem) solution was not to have girlfriends living at my house.
Grompher 8y ago
Ha ha. That is the best solution. My girls would have told me "there is a screw sticking out of the thermostat." To which I could have said "it was falling apart, so I rigged it". They would have let it drop at that.
None, not one, knew north from east when taking directions. Standard crap that 8s do not know cause they have a man doing it for them.

My fucking ex wife would turn the AC way down in the summer, then open the windows when she got too cold. I got a $475 electric bill one July and lost my shit. Our heat pump burned up later that summer... Compressor overheated and seized. Cost me eight grand.
What blew my mind was that no amount of discussion could fix this. She would listen to what I had to say, to my explanations of how this system worked and how much money it cost and so on. She would tell me she understood and would "do better." Then I'd come home from work a week later and lo and behold, AC on full blast and half the windows in the house wide open again. It was as if everything I said to her went in one ear and right the fuck out the other.

This popped up on the Australian news website I read this morning. In the Aussie version they also managed to wedge in the whole 77% pay garbage and it was much more aggressively written. I was going to post it but you've already done the heavy lifting.
All the comments on the article were predictably boring.
TheRealMewt 8y ago
Having been to Iraq and lived in Europe, air conditioning isn't nearly as widespread as it is in the US. You learn to dress for your environment and stay hydrated if you're overheated.
These girls wouldn't last two days outside the US.

Assuming you're cooling and not heating. For much of the year in much of the world, this would mean more heating rather than less cooling, for a net increase in energy consumption.
You'd think women would want it cooler so they can put more clothes on and escape all this workplace sexual harassment I hear so much about. From women.
I'd be fine with a higher temperature, so long as I can take my shirt off.
[deleted] 8y ago
Everyone is more alert and efficient in a cooler temperature. If you're too cold, put on a sweater.

I'm glad my female co - workers aren't massive fucktards when it comes to "feminists" like these. They just put a coat on when it's too cold. You know, like anyone with the ability to think outside a hive mind will do.

For the love of god please stop giving this idea any attention whatsoever. I work for a dumb hippy feminist cunt and if she sees this she's going to start running the heater in August.
BetterRedThanRed 8y ago
The problem with my office is that they do not adjust the temperature between summer and winter. It is always about 70 degrees. If it is 100 degrees outside in the summer, I freeze at 70 degrees. And the AC consumes an insane amount of energy. I would be okay with 77 degrees in the summer.
throwaway_holla 8y ago
I am quite sure she or the editor meant "Men are figuratively freezing women out of the workplace." Unless there is actual freezing involved.
favours_of_the_moon 8y ago
They have to come up with something new and unique in order to really get ATTENTION.
garlicextract 8y ago
This puts a further nail in the coffin of the Wage Gap Myth. Unless some feminist can explain why a for-profit corporation would employ any men at all, when they could just employ all women instead, save 33% of salary expenses, and spend less on AC/HVAC.
[deleted] 8y ago
And another nail: women have the time to complain about this shit, further demonstrating their uselessness
TheRealMouseRat 8y ago
Actually if you look at the biology women have more body fat which is a great insulator, which means that women on average can be comfortable in lower temperatures than men.
However, if you walk around a lot, stressing, working hard, your body temperature will rise. But if you sit still doing close to nothing you will create much less heat. So how hard you work, and what clothes you wear affect how comfortable you feel in a current room temperature.
I prefer higher temperatures myself, and consider 23 Celsius (73.4 fahrenheit) to be the perfect indoor temperature, so I can wear just a tshirt. However, in most government and office buildings they keep it lower than that. 20-21 celsius (68-69 fahrenheit) is common. In my country it is to save money on heating though, and it is a factor that people get more lazy in warmer temperatures.
thiasus 8y ago
I gotta ask though: why are you giving a fuck about this? it's another lazy talentless hack trying to score point with the easily outraged and the campaign-happy slacktivists who will get behind a "raise the temps" pseudomovement. Something like this comes out pretty much every hour.
Also, google the author's face. She couldn't get more stereotypical "professional bitchy lesbian turbofeminist" if she died her hair pink. It's another cunt trying to cash in on social media feminism, let's just ignore her.

[deleted] 8y ago
So if this bitch was doing this at my office I'm supposed to just ignore her until she finally gets the AC turned up and I have to sweat my ass off?
RealRational 8y ago
You have missed the point of my comment.
beginner_ 8y ago
They should move to Europe. Most buildings do not have AC. So it will be hot in them in Summer. But else I somewhat agree. Cooling down to 70 when it's 90 outside is a waste of energy. 77 (eg. 25 °C) is perfectly fine temperature when it's 90 outside. This should work in most office environments in which you aren't limited by a dress code. If men have to wear suits and women dresses, then one could see that this is a problem.
In fact I find it amazing that this has not been identified as an area were companies can save a ton of money. Less cooling. Power really seems to be dirt cheap in US.
In contrast in Winter 70 seems ok. You are wearing a sweater anyway when it below freezing outside...And saves energy and money.
[deleted] 8y ago
[deleted]
[deleted] 8y ago
This is due to Newton's law of cooling. The rate of flow of heat is proportional to the difference in temperature. Let's say the office is temperature controlled to 70F to make things easy. During the summer, it might be 80F outside. 80-70=10. During the winter, it might be 20F outside. 70-20=50. In this example, you lose heat five times as fast on the cold day as you gain heat on the hot day.
Mattpilf 8y ago
You aren't wrong. My electricity heated and cooled apartment. Even with a shit AC unit, making it 72 in the summer and 66 in the winter, it took about 3 times the energy to heat the place. Scientifically, it's caused because and AC moves heat out of the room to outside and thus can actually operate at above 1000% (yeah)efficiency. A heater just takes electricity or gas into heat, lower efficiency. (50%?)
Any place north of the Mason Dixon line probably has this issue, although if you live in the deep south, this could be the opposite since with rarely cold.
[deleted] 8y ago
No it has to do with the difference in temperature between hot days and cold days. I'm not sure where you get the idea that an AC unit has 1000% efficiency. That's physically impossible. If that were true, you could power your house from your AC unit because the temperature gradient it produces would give you more energy than it took to create. Also, many places use a heat pump which is basically an air conditioner run in reverse. It heats the inside and cools the outside.
Mattpilf 8y ago
http://iopscience.iop.org/1748-9326/8/1/014050/article
While their numbers were more like 400% and the technical term is coeficient of performance, I was off by a factor of 2.5. Anyways it's way more effiecent that heating.
[deleted] 8y ago
CoP is very different from efficiency. You can't directly compare the two.
Mattpilf 8y ago
Very different? meh... not really. Efficieny is reasonably defined as(technical definition google gave me)
while CoP is heat supplied/removed(useful work) over is the work consumed by the heat pump(total energy expended).
While the difenition of "Thermal efficiency" is well defined and different from CoP, CoP does meet a technical definiton for efficiency. So it's a measure of efficiency, just not "thermal efficiency"
TRPn00b 8y ago
I'm gonna be that guy for a second and let you know that an electric heater is 100% efficient, because literally all of the electricity used gets turned into heat.
Mattpilf 8y ago
Well this is technically true for any appliance in your house. Even your television and lightbulbs, but that's not really important. You are forgeting how energy reaches your house. That's the real measure of efficiency, and since so much is lost getting to your house and making the power plant, versus say having gas delivered to your house. There's a lot of inneficienies when trying to get energy into heating your house, it would be absurd to ignore them, since they are built into the cost.
TRPn00b 8y ago
Sure, there's losses at the generating stage and transport, but that's true of the electricity you cool the place with as well. 100% of the kilowatts you're paying for get used to heat the place, anyway.
I'm not too keen on the explanation of how the air conditioner works though. Part of the reason the heat bill is higher probably has to do with temperature gradient depending on where you live. If it's 90 out and you're cooling to 72, that's an 18 degree difference, so only an 18 degree gradient trying to get through your insulation. If it's 32 out and you're heating to 66, that's a 34 degree difference.
Mattpilf 8y ago
No. You are paying for the waste in each unit of kilowatt too. yWhile it's proportional increase, the electric companies don't run a loss. You pay for it in you per kilowatt rate.
Yeah, that's part of it, but honestly If I just did heating and cooling cost the number would be probably 5 times the cost, well over the temperature difference or more(still need to pay for hot water and stuff so it's hard to know.
anyways if you still doubt
http://iopscience.iop.org/1748-9326/8/1/014050/article
I guess the technical term is Coefficeint of perfromacne. Long story short AC are more efficient because they move energy, instead of changing energy.
NidStyles 8y ago
Tell that to my electric bill during the summer.
rockinhard130 8y ago
Go home feminists, you're drunk.
sardinemanR 8y ago
This isn't feminists, this is all women. Feminism just took the cuffs off women. Now they get to verbalize and act out every idiotic idea that pops into their heads, regardless of consequences. For men this would be known as Autistic. For women however, it is considered "empowering."
[deleted] 8y ago
No this is how they always are. They will complain about a piece of lint on your shirt representing patriarchy in about 1 year.

This study can't be right, any job I had were women put themselves in charge of the thermostat, it was always too damn cold, because they were obese or alcoholics sweating it out.
[deleted]
FLFTW16 8y ago
I don't believe it. I worked in 2 companies that were 99% women. They always bitched and moaned when the temp was above 72 and made a point of asking around to see who changed the temperature. A witch hunt over the thermostat! LOL. There is always some older woman getting hot flashes. They hate nothing more than to sweat.
drallcom3 8y ago
Just stop wearing deodorant then.
narazz 8y ago
Honestly i dont think it relates to men or women lol. i work min wage but i work out in 90-100 degree temps. 1st thing a women does when she comes outside is say it's too hot out there but im use to it! i will admit though i pretty much leave a window open in my room during the winter time. house gets too hot. :)
[deleted] 8y ago
This was the most out of place comment I've ever seen on here
awyden 8y ago
I keep my house at 72. My wife is a sahm. I'd gladly turn it up to 77 but she (and the kids) gets too hot. Does that make her a man?
