Summary: Only hold the door open for men and <HB 5's....if you want
Body
Some of you are probably aware of the red pill philosophy channel on youtube. Dude made a video explaining why he doesn't hold the door open for pretty women anymore, his claim being that it reinforces the idea that they are entitled to services because of their beauty (if I remember correctly).
His logic seems valid, but it raises the question of what kind of attitude the pretty women who have doors closed in their faces will develop. Assuredly the first time it happens most will think of the man as a dick or something along those lines. As time goes on and they continue to have doors closed in their faces, how will their demeanor change? I have a hard time believing their self-entitlement will decrease. Rather I think their disposition towards men will fall. Leading to more claims of "chivalry is dead" "all men are pigs" etc. etc.
On the contrary, it is well known that if you treat a HB9/10 like she is just another speck of dust in the wind, she will be surprised, and with push pull tactics, get tingles. Not holding the door for her could possibly be a form of negging.
What are your opinions?
I end with an anecdote: I was with my grandpa today and we were entering his apartment building, which has a heavy metal door at its entrance. Two women were standing in front of us and they called up to whomever they were visiting to get the door opened. The door is unlocked, they walk in, the first woman holds the door open for her girlfriend, my grandpa starts walking in, and she lets go of the door as he steps into the doorframe, leaving this old man to catch a heavy metal door. Bitch. No courtesy whatsoever to a man who is not in her clique. As we walked away I loudly said to my grandpa "Is it possible for a woman to hold a door open for a grandpa?" to which he replied "of course not, they aren't even able to think".

I'll hold the door if somebody is behind me...
TheReformist94 10y ago
I dont think this is overthinking at all.ive been on both ends of female treatment.i remember at 19 when I was invisible.not even a reaction, not even a rejection.now that im finally flourishing, the majority of women can go fuck themselves and ill do alot more things that are worse than not holding the door.
[deleted] 10y ago
This. It's just common courtesy if they're within a few feet of you.
If you're holding the door for 5+ seconds like a jackass thinking you're being chivalrous because you see a M'lady within 20 feet of you, then yeah maybe you need to adjust your 'door opening game'. I think for the rest of us just following common courtesy is fine.
Darkwraith38 10y ago
ding ding we have a winner. yeah i dont care who you are im polite in public, its not that hard to be polite and it shows that you have a thoughtful nature. idgaf if thats alpha or not, its how i would like the world to be so i do it.
McLarenX 10y ago
Exactly. Hot women don't deserve a different reaction than anyone else
[deleted] 10y ago
This, stop overthinking every single action
[deleted] 10y ago
I mean, as far as I have observed, women don't hold doors open for men with low SMV's. If they won't do it for you, why should you do it for them?
Men, elderly/disabled people, I can understand (men almost always hold the door open for me)
[deleted] 10y ago
Women don't do a lot of things...
Why enter their frame when making decisions?
Philhelm 10y ago
I've had a woman not hold a door open for me while I was carrying a baby. No big deal, since I can open my own door, but still.
McLarenX 10y ago
Yes, but are you going to be like them or a superior, respectful male figure? Treat them like shit when you date them but don't disregard common courtesy in public and make yourself look like a plebian ass. You will lose value.
IFuckingHateAllergy 10y ago
If they're behind me, I'll hold the door open for anyone. Regardless of age, sex and race. Then again I live in Canada so....
Elodrian 10y ago
I hate this. We take it too far. My heuristic is that I will hold a door open if the time it costs me to hold the door is less than the time it saves you to open it again. I wish everyone would follow this. It's so awkward when someone 15 paces ahead of me holds the door open and waits for me, expecting me to start jogging over or something. It's just a door, I'm an able bodied man. Opening it for myself is not cleansing the Augean Stables.
[deleted] 10y ago
me too. I hold the door open for everyone because it just makes sense to do so (and almost everyone returns the favor to me)
as an observations, chinese/indian women are the most likely to let the door slam in my face.
BTW - thanks TRP for not making me preface the last statement with "I'm not racist but...."
trinitys_dildo 10y ago
In all matters spacial in public I find there are hierarchies of awareness:
male > female
middle aged > young > old
white & black > brown > asian
So old asian ladies are the worst. Young asian dudes are fairly inconsiderate. Middle aged black and white men are very aware & considerate etc.
Doesn't matter if it's holding doors, driving, walking down the pavement this hierarchy of awareness holds true
TheSliceman 10y ago
I wont go down on women, but I expect them to go down on me.
yaardi 10y ago
I hold the door for everyone who's less than 3 seconds away from it.
I've had the door slapped in my face by young women tho. Basic niceness to random people is foreign to them.
brownboygains 10y ago
Who the fuck cares. Is this really a post on TRP? "Should I hold the door open?" You sound like a fucking twat. Nobody really gives a shit if you hold a door open. I have so much stuff going on in my life, that I honestly could care less. If someone is behind me, I'll swing the door open wider. I got motherfucking shit to do. I Can't be contemplating the impeccable decesion of whether to hold the door or not. Bro your so cool for smacking doors at hoes. Oh no we got a badass over here. Yeah that'll teach that bitch about respect, smackin doors on her fucking face. If someone holds the door out for me, I'll be like k thanks bye. If someone's behind I'll leave the door open, or better yet press the retard button. Now the only time I go out of my fucking way is for late pregers, cripples, retards, and women with a stroller, or anorexic bitches , bc God forbid if someone smacked a door on them, they'd split into two.

I'll sometimes wait for women to hold the door open for me. One time, just as I was approaching a glass door, a woman on the other side was reaching the handle to open the door too. But seeing me, she stopped, waiting for me to open it. I just looked at her, until she opened the door. The look on my face said, "What in the hell is wrong with you? You reached for the handle and then stop to wait for me to do it?"
NiftyDolphin 10y ago
I hold the door for anybody. 15 ft rule. Unless it's my boss, then it's 20ft.
razorwan 10y ago
Who gives a fuck man, just have common courtesy if someone is right behind you. This isn't some magical opportunity to spread RP hatred on someone.
truchisoft 10y ago
I remember a study that said that to show yourself as someone with more power around others, you should never open a door for someone, but let them open the door and then step in first. And if you cannot get in there first, let everyone in first and then enter yourself while the last one is holding the door for you, like a boss.
The idea was that entering first would show that the others opened the door for you. And by entering last would let everyone see you last. The issue was in how to do it, or something.
Here is something, the actual full-on study I am having trouble to find it Never open the door for a Male Boss

Easy way to activate the Female Ego Quantum Singularity.
[deleted] 10y ago
I only hold the door for old black women. Theres just something about them. They're always so sweet to me.
Everyone else can suck a dick.
[deleted] 10y ago
If someone is right behind me or I know them I'll hold the door, if I have to stop and wait for longer than 2 seconds, I'll let go of the door.
StrikePrice 10y ago
Because of security policies at work, I've gotten in the habit of rudely closing the doors in peoples' face even if they are 2 feet behind me. It's pretty funny actually. slam!
RPSigmaStigma 10y ago
When a woman asks you to pass the salt, only do it if it's between 62-78% closer to you than her and less than 3.2 feet from you. Any other time, ignore her or scowl at her. Unless she's an HB 6.4 or less, then escalate.
yaardi 10y ago
Low standards, bruh. Also everyone knows salt is a red flag.

but I thought 90% of what you read on the internet is a lie 60% of the time?
[deleted] 10y ago
Holding the door open for somebody, if they're following at a not-too-awkward/far distance, is just common decency. Running in front of somebody to open the door should be reserved for the disabled or the elderly...that's it.
[deleted] 10y ago
Hold it because you're a high quality man, and you're generous with your politeness.
Doing it for any other reason is a covert contract
situ139 10y ago
im a dude and i do dope shit. Holding doors is part of it
[deleted] 10y ago
Just approach it like normal person, if chick is like 2 meters behind you, go through the doors first and just push them back so they wont close right behind you etc . Theres absoulutely no point in holding doors unless you want to help some cripple, or a person with 'full' hands. besides holding doors is self degrading behavior.
[deleted] 10y ago
Yeah that's basically the same

I'll hold the door open if someone is close behind me. You have to take care to pass the holding to the next man coming through though. It goes from polite to ridiculous when you get stuck holding it as a dozen people proceed to file through, many without even a glance.
For my date, I'll ALWAYS hold the door, sometimes doing a mini martial arts pivot and planting a quick kiss in the process. When approaching the car from the passenger side though, I kiss her when letting go of her hand, but unlock with the remote and let her enter her own door. Only one woman started to complain about not opening it for her; I shut her down by saying its an unpleasant artifact of the Patriarchy; this was a good enough answer apparently.
[deleted] 10y ago
I saw that guys video and think he's annoying.
Not holding doors for pretty girls is just another form of validation. I would say treat them no different than anyone else up until the point where you're touching them. Once it becomes physical, give them your best attention and skill. Rock their world with all you've got and when you're done go back to treating them like they're nothing special.
Pretty women are very accustomed to differential treatment. Many men will go way out of their way to be nice to them and some will purposely ignore them or be rude. They're used to this behavior both the special attention and the obvious snub. The trick is to act naturally with them.
I've found that if I know I will see her again it's usually better to be polite like I would with anyone and don't approach. If she's attracted to me she will take note that I gave no signal either way. The next time I see her she will be much more open and interested.
I suspect the game is different depending on how physically attractive you are and how big your city/town is but the direct approach has never worked well for me outside big cities. I've had much more success when I strike up conversation with lady and then leave without asking for her number. Sometimes months will go by before I see her again but when I do she will remember and it will be an almost sure thing. I look at it like planting seeds.
I think if you're exceptionally handsome you don't get any points for being bold and confident, they expect that. If I boldly approach I feel her become uncomfortable and guarded. She's probably already got me pegged as a player, doesn't want to be just another notch on my belt and feels no safety in our possible relationship. If I don't approach it get's her thinking about me. Seems to be the best method.
I should be clear that it's entirely different with girls below a 9, but I'm only interested in 9-10s. If you're a 9-10 girl you could fuck 9-10 guys all day long every day if you want. If you're a 9-10 guy, chances are you only want 9-10 girls which are few and far between, other girls don't even blip on the radar. So really good looking dudes are often going without much more than people think because of high standards. 9-10 girls never have to go without. They already have at least 6 dudes as good looking as you on retainer at all times and chances are they're in a relationship, so cold approach usually gets you nowhere. With these highly valuable ladies one must act like they are nothing special and bide your time. If you're lucky you will run into her again and find her at a time when she's receptive, she will give signal and then it's go time. If you try to move in before the signal then you just lost your chance with her probably forever. Signals are always subtle so make certain you actually got one, if not it's better to wait.
This is just a general guide. There will be exceptions. I've been picked up by models twice and fucked them that night. One was a two day fuckathon before she kicked me out never to see her again and the other was a six month fling. Just know that they're doing this with other guys and have probably fucked way more people than you have.
Never fall in love with them though because she can and will replace you in a heartbeat. Just enjoy her while you have her and be the first to walk away once it goes sour, which it inevitably will.
Gawernator 10y ago
I hold the door open for anyone behind me, that's just courtesy. Good manners. The rule of thumb is that if they are far enough away that you would be standing there holding the door open while they're walking up, it's too far.
p00nbrigade 10y ago
This is stupid. It's generally polite.. Not nice but polite to hold a door for someone. If the person who you held said door for thinks that you did it to service them then they are the ones that are fucked up not you.

I've never held a door open for someone unless it just happened to be more convenient to do it that way (which of course includes old people, disabled etc.). Nobody's ever mentioned it and I never think about it.
[deleted] 10y ago
As my SMV went up, women started holding doors for me. No joke.
the_red_scimitar 10y ago
I only hold a door for people who clearly need assistance, either due to infirmity, or carrying packages, dragging kids, etc. It's a courtesy I appreciate when I would have difficulty with a door.
And heh, Grandpa knows a thing or two.
[deleted] 10y ago
Armenian grandpas know some shit
the_red_scimitar 10y ago
Yes, they do. I live in an area with a strong Armenian presence. Some wonderful old guys, especially running various types of shops.
NightwingTRP 10y ago
Alternatively... hold the door open for anybody who is behind you and coming through because you believe you're doing this as a decent human being and not for them as much as for yourself.
i.e. You've made your choice about the sort of person you want to be and you give no fucks what anyone else thinks about it.
[deleted] 10y ago
or just dont give a fuck about others, and act as you feel like instead of trying to squeeze your whole being into some tight concept. Any person in touch with their 'animality', will perceive person holding door for everyone as weak, needy, and easy to influence (mainly by tingling his label/value/concept) and such person is nothing more than a slave to his label
[deleted] 10y ago
i cant tell if you're being sardonic or not lol
NightwingTRP 10y ago
That's supposition and you know it. There's no science that has studied this in any way.
It sounds like you're interested in Machiavellian concepts. I've already made up my own mind where I stand, what I use and how I approach things. My methods are successful and you'd be a fool to label me as a slave or easy to influence. At the same time, it doesn't mean I'm going to start slamming doors in people's faces just because I don't really care what they think about me. There's something to be said about having a reputation as a decent guy. This doesn't mean let everyone walk all over you and submit left, right and centre. It means to be a bit smarter about where you do and don't apply rational belief systems on the way you act. This can affect your status, and appearing socially incompetent can deduct from your SMV. Whereas appearing to appreciate social etiquette can actually add to your SMV in certain situations. It demonstrates social competence and value.
The Illimitable Men blog has an excellent essay on exploring the Machiavellian mindset and finding your own balance here.
The reason I don't buy your particular take on this topic is because of this sentence:
Dismissing any rational approach you held and acting upon emotion in the moment... that's very feminine to follow your emotions at the expense of everyone around you.
