Hi guys,

There is something going on online that needs immediate action — Online censorship of free speech and loss of online anonymity.

First, if you agree with this message, please spread it aggressively and start gathering support for removing these laws, the UK parliament just dismissed a petition of almost half a million signatures to remove this law, the governments are doubling down so it will not be easy to combat.

The laws involved are:

  • Kids Online Safety Act (US)
  • Online Safety Act 2023 (UK)
  • etc. there are more on the way in Canada and other countries

Firstly, none of these laws are for safety of any kind let alone children, the UK government admits that they are aimed at targeting "harmful" adult discourse online: https://europeanconservative.com/articles/news/uk-government-admits-using-online-safety-act-to-monitor-anti-immigration-opinions/

The words "safety" and "kids" in the names of these laws is deliberate misdirection, they are aimed at targeting "harmful" adult discourse online — they have even gone after Wikipedia, but the gambling sites somehow get a free pass.

Both of these laws impose a "duty of care" for online platforms against "user generated content" and forces them to police the content on behalf of the governments. This is framed as lack of control over "user generated content" being shared and then experienced by another or many users, it is about controlling the content economy. Anyone caught failing this "duty" can be fined up to £18 million or 10% of their annual turnover. The laws also target end-to-end encryption so, they want to monitor and scan your personal chat logs.

The laws are dystopian, top opaque while communalizing and oversocializing personal privacy. This is a coup against democracy and informed consent.

You will have:

  • No more private messaging apps
  • No more online anonymity
  • No more forums

There will probably be AI-driven social micromanagement.

Actions you can take now:

  • Use encrypted apps
  • Support digital rights organizations
  • Political organization and action (petitions etc.)
  • Raise awareness on other platforms

The more time passes, the more irreversible the surveillance laws become, inaction just makes it worse.

The main case the UK government (probably others too) citing against the Manosphere is the false adjacency to "incels" which I will cover in part II of this post.
