They take at min 6 weeks to work. Use protection until two sperm counts from your doctor. You're still considered fertile until then.

Was it tough to find a doctor that would perform it? I had one done a while back and the doctor did his best to refuse because I didn't have kids. I was able to talk him into it but it was really touch and go.

If anyone ever tells you she's pregnant and you're the father, claim to have a vasectomy for a few minutes. Best decision I ever made. I wish I would have gotten one when I was 19. Stupid Navy regs wouldn't allow it so now I have 3 kids. My wife wanted children I never did and still do not. Is what it is. I had a vasectomy 9 years ago...it went fine. Your balls will probably ache after the procedure...this is normal. It's a dull ache and it subsides a little bit day by day. Follow the post-procedure instructions carefully, and don't go without some form of birth control for at least the first 3 months, and get back to the office at that point with a sample to be sure you have no sperm in your semen. I hope things go well for you, and I'm looking forward to hearing some war stories from the field, soldier!

Except I don't see the benefit of a vasectomy in your case. Sure, condoms aren't always effective, so you're safer when it comes to pregnancies but since you're having sex with dozens of people who are probably having sex with dozens of other people, you have no choice but to wear protection unless you want to die of aids or whatever.
