"We need to get women more involved in x, y, z, etc." I'm in software development and hear this sentiment all the time. As if somehow I am supposed to go out into the world and actively recruit women into my field. You know, instead of allowing them to show up because they had an active interest in the first place. The only reason there aren't many women in my profession is because they don't generally like doing it. How in the flying fuck does one get more women involved in Bitcoin?

Haha! The only thing that BC is raping are my GPU's and my power bill.

No one gpu mines btc anymore and hasn't for some time. Even outdated ASICs you are looking at pennies per day with current hashrate difficulty.

They don't understand the paradigm of emerging markets. They think that Bitcoin exists in the same pleasant and protected bubble as the rest of the world they're familiar with. As usual, they're just waiting for their free slice.
When a civilization becomes fat and content, women get to have a say in what happens, because the focus moves away from the acquisition of wealth and towards the "fair distribution" of it. The lazy poor outnumber the hardworking and affluent few, so bitches get their way.
When a civilization must fight for what little resources it has, women shut the fuck up and let the men do the work, because sharing just means you get to keep less of the little that you have. Women can learn to appreciate a cutthroat attitude under those circumstances.

I would like to see you take this exact text and make it into a standalone post. It's that good.
redpillbanana 11y ago
Exactly. Bitcoin is very analogous to the California gold mining rush, except we're on the technological frontier instead of the American frontier. The only people at the American frontier were men and prostitutes.
Take a look at the history of Seattle:
http://dailyuw.com/archive/2004/10/29/imported/underground-seattle-tour-reveals-scary-side
And now what do we have? Men investing in Bitcoin and /r/GirlsGoneBitcoin

Maybe we should all schedule a field trip over there later in the week, have 50 or so RP'ers solicit these classy ladies for sex in exchange for Bitcoin, and come back and report the tally. Willing to bet it's 40-60%.

nah i think that person is actually OK in drawing the conclusions they drew about gender disparity. The sample may not be powerful enough to represent the bitcoin population, but when you consider that 93% of 1000 respondents were male, it's reasonable to draw conclusions about gender disparity. Statistically speaking, a 93% disparity on a binary scale indicates a reliable difference.
Edit: 93%

lol these cunts think there was a sign that said "no women allowed" on bitcoins site. its fucking money for fucks sake.
monsieurhire2 11y ago
Every time someone uses "investment" in place of "speculation," I experience an "urge to kill rising" moment.
Housing, currency, art, beanie babies, gold, commodities . . . all are considered speculation by the people who actually developed the terminology.
Investment is high grade government bonds and stocks in leading companies.
If you are smart, you can make a shitload more money very quickly with speculation than you can with investment, which is why it is so popular with the public. Investment allows for lesser risk over time, with more certainty of return, but you won't double or octuple your money in days unless you luck into future large-cap pioneer (it is the leader of its industry, which is an emerging industry, which is arguably, still, a speculation) when it is in stealth mode.
What was bitcoin, exactly? A virtual currency and banking system with a built-in deflationary bias. It went up on legitimate fears of fiat currency hyperinflation, banking corruption, hipness, and hype. If you got in at the early stages, you are still ahead of the game. Like, way ahead of the game. If you bought when it was being hyped by the news, you are underwater.
What does the future hold for bitcoin? Hard to say, as government reaction appears to be mixed. The biggest risk with bitcoin was not being able to understand the technology, and getting robbed by people with a better understanding. That's why it will probably never catch on, unless some big institution with a lot of resources steps in to protect it. Right now, it appears to be under attack by shadowy groups, many with probable ties to government alphabet agencies.

What the fuck kinda of ridiculous feminist bullshit nonsense is this? By the same logic the author of this piece is using, swingsets are sexist if there isn't currently a girl parking her fat ass on a swing. I mean, if no women are currently choosing to swing, it follows logically that the swings are therefore sexist, right?
And while we're on the topic, how come it's the dream of every kid to go Around-the-World on a swingset? Going 360 degrees around a swing sets a standard for swinging that the average girl just can't match. There should be boy swings and girl swings, one swing for those little shitlords in training to do their stupid 360-degrees Around-the-World bullshit, and a cuter pink swing for our sweet little princesses to do 3 or 4-degrees Around-the-Mall.
Can you push meeeeeeeee?
Not that any of this matters anyway, we all know Dogecoin is the future.
LasherDeviance 11y ago
I'm lovin Dogecoin too bro. I think that Doge will expand more and make CC's more accesible to the regular public. Hell, I done more with my Doge than I have with my BC, such as the Jamaican Bobsled contributions.
Doge is the future, yes indeed.
[deleted] 11y ago
Honestly I could see women and children (read: young adults) being much more interested in putting some money into dogecoin, simply because it doesn't seem as intimidating. I know that when I got into crypto currencies at first, /r/Bitcoin seemed kind of like an elitist society. The dogecoin community is way friendlier to new users and I think this will benefit them a lot in the future as crypto becomes more mainstream.

I'm a Black male, I have been mining BC and Doge since the beginning. She doesn't know what she's talking about.
NakedAndBehindYou 11y ago
Only when it benefits them. You don't see any feminists demanding that more garbage collectors be female, or more janitors. Or that more workplace deaths be female deaths, to balance out the huge current imbalance in the statistic.
[deleted] 11y ago
A season 5 episode of parks and rec actually had Leslie fighting for more women garbage collectors.
I don't know if the show was being ironic, but I don't think it was. It was about as stupid an episode as you can get.
[deleted] 11y ago
Whenever I'm in Sweden it looks like the garbage collecting jobs are quite equally divided between the genders.
FloranHunter 11y ago
Yeah you buy bitcoin to get into it. Technically you can mine it too but that's highly specialized now.
GhostInTheRedPill 11y ago
You can also work for it.
[deleted] 11y ago
To be fair, we are pretty white and male. I can see where they're coming from.
themasterof 11y ago
Why does it matter? Bitcoin have been created over the internet, by men, its a huge community of anonymous people that are interested in it. Its mostly anonymous so its not like being a man, woman or white matters.
[deleted] 11y ago
Right. The joke is that my post was completely devoid of any actual argument or reasoning.

brotential 11y ago
I don't want to sound too tinfoil, but it's in the interests of femcunts and other associated leftist shitheads to undermine bitcoin.
Think of how much easier BTC could make it for men to hide assets from greedy ex-spouses and from a government whose wealth redistribution tends to go in a single direction, from men to women.

Bitcoin is a rich white male disaster? Tell that to the Chinese. Huobi is the largest Bitcoin exchange in the world with more than 50% of the trading volume, and it's all CNY. And it's one of at least ten exchanges in China.
Tell that to this guy: Man buys $27 of bitcoin, forgets about them, finds they're now worth $886k
This is a strange claim, since I've heard that feminists are really embracing Bitcoin. And it's not like Bitcoin is actively discouraging women from getting involved. The Bitcoin source code is out there for all to read, and Coinbase/Bitstamp/Huobi will take your money whether you're male or female. I personally would welcome more women to get involved with Bitcoin.
Sounds like the markings of a STEM major to me. Ah, I forgot - these majors are also "hostile to women".
TBH the way she described being treated was terrible and didn't reflect well on the community, and she posted about this on the /r/bitcoin subreddit. OTOH, I read a reply in that thread from another attendee (it might have been the host of the meeting) that suggested she exaggerated her situation.
She is certainly right about this.
Getting more people involved will certainly help, whether it is men or women - but to imply that women will save the day is complete arrogance.
Also, reading the HuffPo comments, I got the distinct feeling that these aren't the leading innovators in the world:
The ignorance is horrifying.
aphelion3342 11y ago
Clearly we needed more women in Bitcoin before the Mt.Gox crash in order to destroy gender inequity in the catastrophic loss category.
Keyboard9001 11y ago
Props on flipping the script Bro.
AlfredTheGreatest 11y ago
Bitcoin is anti-woman because there are no women in Bitcoin. Women should stay away from Bitcoin, because Bitcoin is anti-women. Bitcoin is anti-woman because because there are no women in Bitcoin.
Reset logic circle. Repeat.
Redpillc0re 11y ago
Unfortunately, it's true. Bitcoin is a male chauvinist who hates women. He detects the female skin when it touches the keyboard and won't let them buy bitcoins.
Bitcoin has an agenda, gentlemen. And a penis, maybe.
puaSenator 11y ago
I've been involved with cryptocurrencies since their inception. While I had made some nice cash on it, once thing is for sure, it's definitely risky (Please don't bring up Gox -- it's too fresh). I don't know a single female that uses bitcoin. I wouldn't say it's because it's sexist, but because it's fucking complicated. I've been around for ages and I still don't understand it 100%. Bitcoin is for VERY early adopters, which is a space overwhelmingly filled with males. Early adoption is always a high risk high reward space, something us disposable males are attracted to.
FloranHunter 11y ago
I know more MtF women that use bitcoin than women-born-women that use bitcoin. I am dead serious.
suscitare 11y ago
No such thing. If you are born with a dick you are a man until you the day you die.
[deleted] 11y ago
The truth, you said it.
[deleted] 11y ago
Their brains are physiologically constructed in the same way women's brains are. They actually experience the world from a female point of view. Their brains don't match their bodies. It's an unfortunate condition that I wouldn't wish on anyone.
suscitare 11y ago
Is this backed up by any hard evidence or are you making stuff up?
FloranHunter 11y ago
Thanks for your much-needed insight.
kulrajiskulraj 11y ago
Idk dude. With all these hormones and surgeries you can share as hell trick your body into thinking its female.
[deleted] 11y ago
Can't trick your 23'rd pair of chromosomes.
RedBigMan 11y ago
Well if they chop off the dick and balls and start taking estrogen... They're not men and may thanks to pharmaceuticals act more like women...
I mean when guys take steroids and T they act more manly... I would imagine the same happens to women who are put on Testosterone and stuff they act more like men.
suscitare 11y ago
These transsexuals will still have a Y chromosome in each of their trillion+ cells contained in their body which will continue to exert their effects throughout their lifetime.
[deleted] 11y ago
Women only get in after things are "well established" and there's room for accommodating their sensibilities. You'll see very few women in start-ups but they'll star pouring once the uncertainty diminishes and getting involved is a low risk investment.
It also depends on how society views it - if it's embraced, women will take the same stance - herd mentality at its finest, if not - they'll shun it out of fear of not being socially accepted by others because of it (see video games - "until 2000 - for pizza faced nerd losers, 2008 - now Omg I'm a gamer-girl")
Muffington Post is a clickbait postmodernist shithole that celebrates mediocrity and exploits the left leaning progressives naive world views.
It should not be linked, take a screencap or something.

If Bitcoin is evil or a disaster because it was created by rich white males... then where are all the crypto-currencies (or any other groundbreaking technological development for that matter) that are created by poor non-white females that are spectacular successes?
[deleted] 11y ago
Huffpo so I will not click, but I am not surprised.
ekjohnson9 11y ago
It's worthless and shitty, but only for the evil rich whites. Great analysis.
TheIronyPuppy 11y ago
We've seen this before. Women won't take the risk with the emerging fields, such as cryptocurrency trading, but, when one is fully backed and ready to make some serious not so risky cash, we can be assured that women will be lining up to take jobs in it.
the-anconia 11y ago
I like how the author claims women are better investors than men (don't care either way) but follow it up with this quote.
That's exactly what being a good investor is all about.
LasherDeviance 11y ago
BC isn't in its infancy anymore, we're just under three years away from reaching the full market cap in 2017.
Basic economic principle states that the value of a limited resource is gauged by it demand vs. quantity times the amount of time it takes to create/mine a resource.
This bitch is dumb and writing this article completely from a place of emotion. She hasn't even done a minimal amount of research.
LasherDeviance 11y ago
99% Percent of everything she said in that article was wrong. Of course you have to have money to buy BC today, but if she started mining in late '09, early '10 like I did and most BC'ers did, she would have realized that her only investments would have been GPU cards with high kilohash rates (which were fairly cheap at the time before mining became popular/mainstream) and high electric bills.
I wonder if this cunt did a piece on Wall Street as well, seeing as how there are NO female brokers. The only females that work on Wall Street are secretaries and hookers... The way it has always been.
