There's a lot of talk about why women lose interest. As someone with long history of playing video games as a hobby, I can't help but notice some parallels.

Some games are poorly designed messes. Some seem excellent at first or have good advertising but quickly get boring from a lack of depth and variety. Some of them are addictive even though you're not really having any fun - just a feeling of progression keeping things going. The best games have depth and variety, and let you live out an interesting story, but sometimes you also find one that breaks all the rules and still works anyways. Some games also end up being comfortable places you like to revisit again and again, and might release a new content pack every now and then. Sometimes you finish a game, then later you come back for the new and improved sequel.

Men are like this.

There are worthless slobs, people that seem technically well put together but are boring, guys that are heavily based around a specific niche, guys that advertise themselves with flashy clothes but have nothing else going for them, etc. I don't think I'm too far off base here.

From another angle, have you noticed that people don't appreciate things they don't have to work for? Games are only fun when there's a challenge involved. If you cheat and turn on god mode and everything goes down in one hit, suddenly it all feels pointless and you long for a challenge again. This is why you pull away, and give yourself a little bit of elusiveness. This is why you control the progression, and let her work to talk you into things but not so hard she gives up. If you make it too easy, you cheat her out of the challenge.

So am I suggesting becoming the Fortnite of men? I very well might be.

If the core loop of your daily life is fun, challenging and addictive then people are going to want to be around you. Provide a feeling of progression - something that is being worked towards with indicators of progress, and you'll help secure things further for the long run. Set the rules and guide things along. You are both the game and the designer.
