Many would argue that even suggesting delaying the election casts a light of evil dictatorship onto him... why would he make such a suggestion when his enemies have been looking for this ammo for the past 4 years- accusing him of never letting go power...?

Here's my take, it pits the pro-shutdowners against an election. Now holding a position that shutdowns will be necessary (in order to hurt Trump around election time) will have to either agree that the election day needs to be moved, or that the shutdowns themselves are unnecessary.
By attacking the safety and integrity of the election via mail-in ballots, I think it really pushes the topic back to IRL voting.

He is the one in power, so this applies to him, not to the opposition. If the pandemic is serious enough to merit a postponement of the elections (ffs, its 1500 deaths/day now!) he should have already done several lockdowns.
redpillschool 4y ago
As of 2017, there are about 7,508 deaths a day from all causes.
1500 is down from the peak.
Here's a question nobody is answering. Out of all the deaths (a majority is the very old or the sick), how many were going to die this year?
I would like to see the death rate for the past few months outside of covid.
adam-l 4y ago
You can find the studies, no, the old and sick wouldn't have died this year. A Covid death subtracts about 12 years of life on average.
The biggest fear with a new pandemic of this type is swamping of the health system. It's not to be toyed with.
In any case, there are tactical games on play around the elections, not many have a great regard to human life, and most will stand by their political affiliations. So the question of whether this Trump move is effective or not is largely unrelated to whether there is any truth in it.
The way I see it, if Covid is dangerous he should do lockdowns, if it is not dangerous there is no need for a postponement.
For the opposition, if it is not dangerous there is no need for postponement, if it is dangerous, the government is handling it horribly and should go.

Every polling place I've ever been to had PLENTY of room to socially distance. Maybe it's not as easy in some precincts and climates, but I'm not sure mail in ballots will be the only way to vote in November.
"Either move election day or declare shutdowns unnecessary" amounts to a false dichotomy.

The same people who cry about requiring ID as being racist or prejudice against the poor don't tell you how those people have no problem whipping their ID out to collect welfare. Or to buy cigarettes and booze. They have zero argument for not requiring an ID, almost every country even in active war zones require your ID to vote. The only reason they fight so hard against it is because that is a major step in cutting down voter fraud and illegal voting/voters.
MentORPHEUS 4y ago
The argument against ID is that it disenfranchises more voters than prevents fraudulent ones. I've had an expired driver license prevent me from making a mortgage payment IN CASH for fuck sake. It galls me to see the same people who are against Big Brother, surveillance, and think Bill Gates is trying to microchip all humans readily turn into Little Eichmanns when it comes to demanding ID for voting.
In my county, voting without ID works very well. You must state your name and address, then one person looks you up on a list of vetted names, another looks you up on a list of vetted addresses. If both agree, the line is crossed off on each list and only then are you handed a ballot. In addition, you often run in to people you know and who know you from the neighborhood on both sides of the admissions table.
It's disingenuous to claim that voting without requiring ID automatically makes elections a fake voter free for all.
[deleted] 4y ago
The idea of the name and address double-check is sound in theory until you account for dead people being on those lists, and complicit individuals holding said lists. We have evidence of cheating, piles of it. Democrats fought against purging voter rolls of dead people, who would do that? Zero logic unless they planned on using those dead people to vote again. And that is exactly what was caught in my county, dead people somehow voting multiple times after time of death.
So now back to it, why are you and so many who think like you fighting so hard to make our elections less secure? With all the talk about Trump refusing to leave office you would think everyone wants a more secure election process, right? Your message gets lost when you look at base facts and logic. There is zero reason for this argument, ID to vote in person just makes sense especially since said ID's are free and the "disenfranchised" use them all the time for booze, cigs, and welfare.
The arguments against it are purely emotional and bring up even more questions as to why it's being fought against so hard. Do people just not want to walk into the DMV for a free ID? If they are this lazy why should they even vote? Can't be bothered to get out of pajamas or are they hiding something else?

Vetting and cross checking voter lists isn't difficult in the age of computers. If your county repeatedly has dead people voting, it sounds like your county is corrupt, and the people of your county lack the will to fix it. Projecting your county's problems onto every county in the nation is unproductive, not to mention insulting to those who actually take election security seriously. You're also wandering off the topic of the 2020 election being held in a timely and secure manner. Mandating IDs isn't even a talking point for this election. Trump and fans have set up a false dichotomy that "Either the election needs to be moved or shutdowns are unnecessary." I think Herman Cain campaigned pretty effectively on the last point this week.
[deleted] 4y ago
The fact you said "Trump and fans" shows extreme bias and you are clearly a bad faith negotiator (typical of leftist scum), but I will engage one more time. The only corruption where I live are local Democrats during the years they think they could have a chance of winning if they fudge the numbers 10-20% their way. We do not lack the will to fix it, each time it got fixed. Sadly it's a problem where you chop the fingers and not the head, their fall guys take the blame but we have had several clean elections now since an eye is being kept on them. Of course, go on blaming us for their problem, they are the hated losing side and only cheat because it's the only way they can potentially flip our district. Never works, margins too large against them so any cheating that would win would have to be painfully blatant. That is exactly what will happen November, if Biden wins it will be blatant cheating because no one supports this Dem lunacy.
You denying facts is making everything worse. We all know how it is, you just don't like it because facts paint the liberal/socialist/leftist side poorly. The 2020 election will be on time unless the Democrats keep refusing to put the riots down, they want Trump to be a "dictator" and put them down by force then claim they were right the whole time. Instead, we are opening schools and using that as the leverage to say the elections will be open and on time since schools can stay open. It's 4d chess, and he's playing the competition hard. Instead of focusing on your version of "truth" you should stick to facts from now on, put down the liberal news media.

The thread is literally about the claims of Trump and his base, versus those of his political opposition. If you want an out from the discussion you can take it without projecting bad faith onto ME.
You started with the Trump narrative that Democrats are using Covid to cheat in polling and claiming your district is rife with left wing corruption, yet go on to support my argument that effective checks and balances are in place and such a scheme could never succeed even in your county without being so blatant as to be obvious to everyone.
That's the simple backstop response when Trump says and does things that don't stand up to scrutiny. Another interpretation: people see right through his false dichotomy and aren't responsive to it, and this frustrates you.
I'm working from information provided here in the thread and my own personal observations. Quote exactly what I've said that derives from "liberal news media" instead of these.

I'm just done, facts won't win over your opinions. I've dealt with too many leftists like you in real life and it's just a waste of time. Keep twisting words into different meanings, keep taking small sentences out of context, those games don't fly with actual intelligent people and I'm not gonna hand-feed you information for weeks to catch you up on this because you're not paying me for that privilege, find the facts yourself or remain ignorant. That onus is on you, not me.
EDIT: To summarize more clearly, I mentally bitch-slapped over a dozen people who talked and replied exactly as you do in different places on the web and I'm tired of winning. Winning is not winning to your kind, you losing makes you think you are winning as long as you waste your opponents time and mentally wear them down. The pattern has been repetitious and I can already see where this goes, every link with real facts you refute. Every bit of info I show you refute. You will snip out and cut up sentences to word things your way. You show the same signs as all the others that all you want to do is wind me up in the hopes I lash out. Even when I'm factually and logically correct you won't care. I don't have time to waste on this.
MentORPHEUS 4y ago
The evidence you presented supported my position better than your own, now you are going to cut and run because your ideas don't stand up to scrutiny in the wild. This is a strong sign you're operating within an echo chamber.
Must be frustrating to be @Redpillschool right now. No matter how many spaces he carefully sets up for debate and exchange of ideas, they always seem to end up as a nasty mean girls clique or joyless pigeon chess game.

You're not even getting there with me. You DEERed why you won't continue at greater length than you could have effectively responded.

Simple solution, have a day off on Nov. 4th and call it a sort of national holiday. No excuses, everyone shows up with ID and votes in person. Anything short of that gets lots of fraud. Where I live in the midwest is not a large town by any means and we caught fraud at least 5 times in the 3 decades I've been alive. Every time was in favor of Democrats with dead people on the voting rolls and stuff like that. The reason they cheat? Where I live they get 33% of the vote on a good year. I've also had someone tell me they are sending off their absentee ballots, I told them that ballot just landed in the trash after it has been passed through several hands.
