No, your very basic skills at social interaction and banter come up short here. You succeed in the social game by at least initially including all members of the group, not trying to play them off each other from the start. After some pleasant or at least intriguing interaction, the potential interest of each party in you will emerge, and you polarize from there. Don't feel bad, I was asocial and autistic AF well into my 20s too, and duffed my game over and over.
