My own father managed a net gain -married an heiress, who spent it all generously but not too wisely on the family, when she died he inherited her half of a large house, took that inheritance on to spend on his much younger second wife (to some disappointment on the part of his children).

My observations form this are that;

1. My father is actually much happier married this time around. My mother always felt she sold herself short on him (Which in truth she did as she was two classes above him socially and he was no Chad). This time around the wife (divorcee who had 3 daughters to raise when they met) is grateful. My mum actually left him in a fit of post wall bitterness and the only reason she did not divorce him was that she would have lost half of everything she had and she had never worked for years so was terrified of the idea.
2. My dad got an innocent girl form a sheltered background whose father had died. This might be very hard to do these days. They also had religion in common and men in their minority religion were at a shortage.
3. The appeal of a poor talented boy who appears to be on the make is great for spoilt rich girls.

It possible. It requires intelligence and effort. A guy has to know how to vet before marrying. Most guys don't. They marry the first thing that shows them attention. Combine that with the BP and your dead. However I know a guy just like this who got lucky. The women today past 50 years are for the most part not worth the effort related to the risks. Women need to be retrained. Past generations of men, not you guys, have created this situation.
