o ask how some of you made it through this initial entry and what else I could be doing that will actually bear fruit and won't waste my time and money.

Fuck patience for starters. Patience is just an excuse for doing fuck all. Show me a patient man and I'll show you a failure.

Be IMPATIENT AS FUCK. The only caveat is this: you have to actively stick at things for a while before they pan out. But it looks a lot more like hard work than patience. Fuck Patience.

Apprenticeships...... sure, maybe, but do your research about what it looks like coming out the other end.

Right now there's a massive demand for all trades. Call up fifty companies and tell them "I want to be a plumber, I am hard working and diligent and you'll find me invaluable within a week". When fifity companies turn you down, think again..... Until then, you haven't tried. Accept ANY WAGES including none for the first month. You can always apply elsewhere as you learn shit. This will get you a real job and you'll get ahead of the official apprenticeships and qualifications in no time.

And yes, I have personally done this shit, and yes I have rang companies and been turned down ......... well, not fifty times, because I had a job before that, but the point is this: it's all on you to fucking get shit done.

Be relentless. What the world thinks of you doesn't matter. People respect hard work and effort. Get to it. Don't be patient.

What you need is certifications that you can take fast. All you need is low investment - not like fucking college where you blow money and pay the loan for the rest of your life. Once you get that, try to do two things. Talk to people in that industry AKA creating networks(I don't like it but this is how things work). Your skill matters but network matter 10x more. You'll most probably get a job for sure. After 2-3 years, move to a high paying job with that experience. Never fucking stay in one job.

Location is everything. Where do you live? Move to a city where you can actually make money.

I'm pretty sure I was having sex with an M-16 in a dirt fox-hole at your age. Join the military and take a trade as your M.O.S. You'll get free housing, food, paid training, and you get to blow things up and jump from airplanes. After your first tour you'll have free college and a trade plus you can get a cheap loan to buy a house. If you save your money while enlisted you can start your own business, make a down payment on a house, etc.

You have something you are exceedingly good at. If you don't there is something you enjoy so much you can become an expert on it with some work. Find a way to make money from that. Even if it's something that doesn't seem like it can make you money there is a way to make money from it. If it's video games use your knowledge to write reviews or know enough about the industry to invest in the right companies. Even offer yourself as a video game coach. It sounds like bullshit but if you're the only one doing it people are going to look into it.

The difficulty is finding just how to make money off your talent or interest. Fortunately technology has made it very easy to market yourself to make money. I would take some time to really think about what you offer, find your interest and then get creative about how to market it.
