I finally decided to start lifting or rather, stop with doing purely bodyweight exercises and add in some proven weight training. Thing is I'm pretty scared of getting injured. A couple of years ago I had a wrist injury that resulted in a surgery and not training in almost two years (I train MMA) and this makes me much more cautious than most people and it's one of the reasons that I take stretching and warm-up very seriously...
Part of the reason why I havent started training with weights is that I'm afraid I will injure myself again, a few days I go I started doing squats (with just the barbell, no weights) and I managed to hurt my neck somehow, probably because the bar rested too high on my neck. Is there any way to remedy this fear? There are so many people who hurt themselves bad when training at a gym, I dont believe they were all ego-lifting. I know I have to lift not just too look better but also for my own sense of accomplishment but I dont want to hurt myself again.

I did squats with heavy weight, fucked up my right leg, and it's fucked my career, my dating life, and everything for the last 10 years. I don't have the energy to write out whole post describing everything but it actually started pulling me on one side so bad it started seriously affecting my vision. Eyes wouldn't focus right, couldn't sit in a chair comfortably, it's the #1 dumbest mistake of my life.
I must have spent $20k going to doctors who did literally nothing. Basically if the muscle has detached surgery can reattach it, but if it's just injured medicine is literally just like "well that's your problem".
Heavy squats were the dumbest mistake of my life.

shit, how did it happen? How heavy were you lifting? Were you part- squatting or were you breaking parralel?

I weighed around 230lbs and was squatting around 215lbs.
I was making a point to break parallel.
If I remember this correctly I think I left the place feeling ok just sore. It was when I woke up the morning I had pain shooting down the outside of my leg and a "crunchy" feeling inside my hip if I put weight on it in a certain way.
In retrospect it's so stupid - the barbell squat is so risky with so little benefit. I didn't just get injured, I got injured doing something that would never provide any real substantial benefit even if everything went perfectly.

thats not as such a big weight damn... but it does sound a bit like bad luck.

Is there no one there to talk about it? My experience is that there is always some people to bounce this stuff off, but of course the final course is yours.

I think that there is always some level of risk with getting injured with lifting. Getting injured from lifting is mainly caused by poor load management. So I’m talking about using too much weight to start with, doing too much volume (setsxreps), etc.
I do think that with your history you should be able to mitigate your risks a lot. For example, next time you want to squat/train legs. I would say start with a machine like hack squat or leg press that trains the muscles in a similar way and spend a few weeks consistently working on this movement and maybe throw in some smaller exercises like leg extension/hamstring curls. This is just an example and kind of difficult to fully explain this in a single response. Some good resources to look into are barbell medicine and renaissance periodization.

The guys that don't have girlfriends are afraid of rejection. The guys that are afraid to crash never get a motorcycle. The guys afraid of a challenge will live in their mothers basement. Everything has risk involved. Educate yourself first, then decide if you want to stay small, weak, cowardly and lonely. Or strive to better yourself.

Like it. Get busy living or get busy dying. choose
Don't have to be daredevil stupid, take your time, do some homework, start slow and figure it out.
May your life be interesting.
