Title says it all. I have struggled with alcohol abuse for some time, but its difficult for me to stay completely stopped, as I built a reputation on being a party animal in college. It served me very well. In the real world my old tricks don't get me the results I want, in fact, they get quite the opposite.
So with that, does anyone else not drink, and how does it affect red pill living/ your game?
In principal, there is nothing more red pill than quitting alcohol. It literally makes you fat, stupid, and wastes time.
To those who will undoubtedly say "have self control, drink moderately", that's the definition of alcoholism/addiction. The inability to have self control with substances. No amount of red pill thinking can defeat the brain chemistry of addiction.

This. If you have to get a buzz to unwind, feel joy, not be bored, or cure social anxiety- fix the problem, don't put a temporary band-aid on it. If the bar you went to is boring? Leave! Having trouble cold-approaching? Improve yourself so you feel more confident. Can't sleep or can't let go of tension? Train yourself to be in control of your emotions (mediate).
RememberingAlpha 10y ago
I know I am an addict, because I have arrived at the same conclusions organically, and still use
sd4c 10y ago
There is no shame in that, brother. There is truly nothing more red-pill, than eschewing the crutch many men lean on in hard times. You may find it useful to maintain a reserve list of alternative reliefs, that you only allow yourself in hard times. Such as, for example: getting an expensive massage, sleeping in, playing video games, travel, taking a private lesson (yoga, boxing, personal training, music). It's super corny, but saying to yourself aloud "this is my way of showing some love for myself" before and after the treat can magnify its therapeutic effect.

I have not had a drink in 2 years and 4 days. My game is better with out it and I am 66lb lighter (also started following ketogenic diet)
The biggest benefits with game and such is saving money and being able to go out more and still work with less recovery needed compared to drinking and then being hung over

Trump doesn't drink. Neither do his kids. I try to not drink but the social pressure to drink is tremendous, abstaining is extraordinarily difficult. I don't and never have had a drinking problem, but it is so bad for the body I would just rather become a teetotaler.
Igetitnow2 10y ago
Like you I was the party animal, I continued it WAY too long. It started getting in the way of all parts of my life so quit. I'm 6 months sober now. Found TRP around 3 months ago. It's a slow process but I like it and have been taking it all in.
My biggest issue is approach anxiety, never had that problem when drunk. I've been working on it though, not going to bars has lowered the amount of opportunities to meet people but allowed plenty of time for self improvement. Been lifting with a trainer, cooking all my own food and joined a hockey team.
Check out r/stopdrinking it's a good resource in the early days.
MeatCurtainRod 10y ago
You need to reevaluate your knowledge of alcohol abuse, addiction, and why you feel you need it.
To answer your question, yes, I don't drink, not unless it is a special occasion, and only in moderation. It is literally only a one or two drinks over the course of the entire night, maybe a dozen times per year tops. It is a waste of money and your perception changes. Lose lose in my eyes.

This is a great video. really changed my perspective. i'm in the worst cage of my life right now.
I feel the same as the OP. I could have written it. Been trying to get off the booze for years (well, wanted to try, never really took action) and the best was a monk mode summer where I was gyming constantly and didn't want booze.
But now I'm stressed and taking adderall to get work done then booze or benzos to take the edge off that and then I find i'm bored so hey why not abuse the adderall or FUCK i'm stressed about my future where's my antixiolitic......
ManOfGrapes 10y ago
I haven't had a drink in over six months. I feel fucking great. Day game becomes significantly more important when you stop, but it's worth it since you'll start finding higher quality girls.
Used to be a party animal too. Just not worth it.
rangamatchstick 10y ago
When I was learning pickup I went out sober, by myself, about three nights a week to do solo game at night clubs and during the day a couple of times additionally. The effect of this is now ever present in how I handle crowds, act around women all the time as I am used to doing it sober, I can think about what I am doing, saying, consciously read into their body language, tone, emotion and how I am effecting them now and in the coming minutes. Also I am completely comfortable in these environments while sober so I have no problem being this energetic, do what I want kinda guy.
0_fox_are_given 10y ago
Once a month, maybe once every two months now.
I used to be a crazy party animal drinking 3 - 4 times a week though.
I'm sure I've done long term damage to my liver, so I try and keep it at a bare minimum.
Not easy when you have friends who can demolish 18 cans of J&b. And your sitting there on your 6th drink wasted. Definitely an ego thing to drinking.

I just made the biggest mistake of my life this weekend while under the influence of a ton of alcohol. I cannot slide back into the lull after a few weeks, and so I've decided to give it up for the foreseeable future. What are some tactics you've used? I'm considering just being firm about it. If I go out, like this weekend for my friends birthday, I'll just drink a water or a soda.
alpha_n3rd 10y ago
my teetotaling grandad told me he was the most popular guy in the navy because he was always the designated driver. gives you an excuse not to drink anyway.
alpha_n3rd 10y ago
My grandad is a teetotaler. HIS dad was an abusive alcoholic. Grandad realized he was at risk so decided to just never drink. I always looked up to him for that.
Personally I enjoy one or two in the evening but not every single night. Fuck it, I'm on a bulking diet. When I'm cutting I don't drink much, hard to hit my macros if I do. I have very little patience for sloppy drunks.
eccentricrealist 10y ago
I drink every once in a blue moon, but since I generally drive I keep it on the down low.
[deleted] 10y ago
I almost don't drink at all, I don't like being drunk so I can't give you an objective POV of why I don't use it.
edit: Sent the reply before being of use, but I've gamed while being drunk and honestly it sucks, yeah you have the instant IDGAF mentality, but at the same time alcohol is a depressant and it does bring the blue out of me as fast as it brings the IDGAF.

I did most of my drinking before age 21, later went 10+ years without a drop of alcohol. Now I might enjoy a glass of wine at dinner with the GF a few times a year. Life is fine without alcohol.

I hate the taste of boose, i drink some cider once in a while, maybe a few shots if i wanna get the inhibitions down.
Usually i dont have a hard time having fun when i want to, but these days going out clubbing is fucking boring, and i just enjoy sitting in a quiet bar with a few friends.
The only real downside is i dont like wine, which i feel like i should especially at dinner parties and expensive restaurant trips.
Not smoking / Drinking is kinda rare where im from, and tho i dont get shit about it, i do get some respect for having the self control.
Honestly, it never bothered me much and when i do get more than tipsy i feel like i loose control of my words, and thats a feeling that i really do not enjoy
JakofClubs 10y ago
I used to drink quite a bit, but just started hating it. I find it very difficult to go to bars and not drink at all. My solution is to get a shot of higher-end whiskey on the rocks and a non-alcoholic drink, such as diet soda or juice, which looks like mixed drinks. I nurse the whiskey for hours and no one seems to notice much. I can turn down beer by saying I don't drink beer and no one thinks you're "a puss" because you're drinking whiskey and they're mostly drinking beer. When the waitress comes over, I point to the juice or soda and say, "Can I get another one?" This isn't drinking zero, but it really helped me cut down at clubs.

I drink rarely unless I'm with girls. No point to it other than to lower sexual inhibitions.

I live in Vietnam and also was working with a bunch of Koreans. Both of those cultures are notorious for crazy rice wine drinking to try to prove you're a "man". It's so bad that they will go to the bathroom to vomit so they can come back and drink more. It's tradition for the boss or senior guy to go around and have a shot with each of their direct reports or younger guys. Before they realized I don't drink much, they asked the supervisor "why doesn't caucasianinasia drink with us?" He said something to me about it so I simply explained that I don't like to drink, I don't drink and ride (motorbike), and that I'm not going to do that just for a tradition. Now that they all understand, I think most guys actually admire me for being able to say no.

drunken korean businessmen are hilarious though

I hate alcohol, I hate its taste. I only drink vodka when I go out with friends so I get wasted and have fun. I don't have hangovers though.
IoSonCalaf 10y ago
I'm the same way. I hate the taste
[deleted] 10y ago
Have you tried phenibut as an alternative? It helps my social anxiety. Makes me confident as shit with a IDGAF attitude.
HelloImRIGHT 10y ago
Sober for almost 3 years now. It seems to help me more than anything. People are interested in stories I have of my past, the hurdles I overcame so on.. It's interesting to a lot of people, but I dont talk about it unless asked. Also, it's helped me as a person immensely.
TheDonald2k16 10y ago
Nope. Waste of money and it doesn't even taste good.
RPFreebase 10y ago
Sober nine years. Causes a little friction w some younger girls, as most of them like to get fucked up some, but I keep solid frame and it isn't an issue except for diehard party girls who I'm not into anyway. Many girls are impressed that I can be so confident without any booze.
One slight complication is that I have to put a bit more work into my seduction, as girls consequently aren't usually drinking around me and so have unimpaired ASD running.
RememberingAlpha 10y ago
Id love to talk more about all this since you have some time under your belt. Im at 9 days but have gotten to the 2-3 month mark a few times before deciding I needed to prove to myself I have an issue...again
revosfts 10y ago
Not alcohol but I've been clean of heroin for 6 years. Don't hesitate if you need anything pm me.
RPFreebase 10y ago
Yeah I just looked at your posting history and saw that you have asked about this subject a number of times. Clearly this is a recurring issue for you. PM me if you want to discuss the subject further.
TheRedStoic 10y ago
Beyond the pm I request a full post with lessons. You obviously have a gold nugget to share, it'd be vastly appreciated by many I'm certain. Myself included.
RPFreebase 10y ago
I was surprised by all the positive responses here to OP's post. I am not in as small a minority as I thought. I'll think about a full post. I don't really advocate complete abstinence for anyone who doesn't absolutely need it (like I do, and like it sounds like OP does), but it's clear from this post there are lots of guys around here who already don't drink or don't drink much.
RememberingAlpha 10y ago
The people want the full post, brother. PM'ing you now.
[deleted] 10y ago
I would also really appreciate a full post if you have the time.
princepeanutbutter 10y ago
I'm one year sober. If you feel like you're losing control or generally can't control how much you drink, check out /r/stopdrinking. It can be hard, it was the hardest thing I ever did, but I feel like I've been given a second shot at life.
Shaigan 10y ago
I like drinking wine with girls, sometimes beer on hot day, otherwise I don't feel need to drink at all
muddynips 10y ago
I struggled for years and the thing that finally made me quit ended up being silly. I started calorie tracking. There's only so many times you can track calories from deadlifting and drinking 12 beers before you realize your goals are contradictory. Now whenever I get the impulse to drink, I exercise it away or go to bed.
Actualize the costs of drinking so you take the joy out of it. Then it has less power over you.
Ultimately it's your choice. Don't fall into the trap of taking away your own agency.
alpha_n3rd 10y ago
hard to hit your macros on a cut if you drink, like, at all.
B_Polar 10y ago
AA has helped me a lot through the years, but you have to see past a lot of bs there. You have to seek out quality people, which is difficult at best.
Josewasframed 10y ago
I'd second what u/blighter711 said.
I've always realized that alcohol would always be a crutch for me, if I continued to use when going out. I still drink, but nowhere near as much thanks to Phenibut.
Phenibut is still a crutch. It works like alcohol, but without the side effects, like drowsiness/confusion/slurring of words, etc. But it has made me drink so much less.
I used to get drunk every weekend or every other weekend and now it's probably been since early December since I last got drunk.
I also used to drink anywhere from 1-4 beers during the week, usually paired with dinner. Now, I don't drink at all on days other than Friday and Saturday.
My goal is to become completely independent of alcohol. It is possible to be a boss without it, and that's what I'll strive for.
SpinPlates 10y ago
I was too deep into bodybuilding and fitness when I was younger. I didn't start "drinking" until I was 25. And even now I only get drunk maybe once every other month.
My father died homeless from a failed liver. His father had a stroke and died from alcoholism. My mother's father was an alcoholic and Drug addict as well.
I fucking LOVE being drunk. But every day I make the conscious decision to not drink because I love it too much.
[deleted] 10y ago
I have a pretty good handle on my self control and addictions. However, since I have left the Army, I don't drink hardly at all these days. I LOVE a good craft beer and having a drink at a bar and brewery tours, but when it comes to getting drunk, I just don't do it anymore. I saw just how easy it is to become addicted to alcohol when I went through the Warrior Leader Course. I would do 2-3 shots to get a nice buzz going on to beat the stress, then use it to fall asleep. Once I ran out of Jack Daniels, I actually found myself having minor withdraws and I couldn't sleep. This was all in a 2 week period as well. I stopped that shit immediately. I'm also 6'5 and 270lbs so getting drunk for me tends to be expensive anyway, and drinking at home just doesn't do it for me unless I'm stressed, but like I mentioned before, that gets very dangerous.
