Title says it all. Ive struggled with alcohol abuse, it goes in cycles. I have found that alcohol diminishes my ability to maintain frame, causes attention snd validation seeking behavior, and comes with all the negative impacts on lifting.
Are there any other red pillers who abstain? what are your experiences and thoughts.
I did. 75 day sober period in the fall, I looked great, i went out 5 nights a week because I had all the energy for it, and talked to significanlty more women, because if you arent drinking, what else is there to do?
thoughts? much appreciated.

Abstain? Not really, but I'm not much of a drinker. I have better things to spend money on, and I don't like the feeling of not having my full intellect and capabilities available.
It has a seriously detrimental effect on lifting and health, so easy to get fat at the very least. But the main reason I rarely drink is i don't like feeling drunk.

I replaced booze with coding. 4 months sober. It's worth dropping it. Don't even miss it.

Coding?
laere 10y ago
yeah I started learning HTML/CSS and Javascript at the start of November. Coded every single day since, it's fun!

If you personally have a problem controlling your drinking, by all means abstain.
Personally I like the kind of people who aren't alcohol-centric and base every evening and weekend around getting drunk.
I went over 10 years without drinking at all for ideological reasons. Nowadays I will have a glass of wine, maybe two, during/after dinner with a sweetheart, a few times a month at most. Using alcohol moderately and socially is nice, provided you aren't an alcoholic who could be triggered into a binge.
I think you'll reach a point of not enjoying the company of hardcore drinkers.

I guess thats sort of my fear. I was a really heavy drinker through college and built a persona around being the party animal, and chicks loved it. Im kind of said to let that version of myself and those people go
MentORPHEUS Senior Endorsed 10y ago
That'll do for College, but after graduation it's called "Being an alcoholic." I'm in my late 40s and watched the party animals age rapidly and plateau in life early. Try being the only non-drunk person at a booze party a time or two and decide if that's the "you" that you want to cultivate for the rest of life.

I used to love alcohol, I probably still do. But I don't have a moderation setting. I'm fine with not drinking, or drinking all night long, but I can't just have 2 and be done. I finally decided that I've been a drunken loser long enough and id rather work on my body than sit and home getting fatter.
On the occasion I do miss it I just remind my self it's poison.

What RSDtyler says about alcohol is absolutely phenomenal! His point is that the best way to learn game is while sober. Becaus it develops that personality in all aspects.
While drunk you adapt another persona and what you do outside of your comfortzone while dunk is forgotten and never to be used again while sober.
He then reffers to a stripper he dated who allways drank. She was dirnking out with her girlfriends, she was drinking right after work so her ENTIRE personality was developed around alcohol. While sober she just didint know how to act. She had to get drunk in order to feel comfortable in any situation at all! She IS alcohol.
So, expanding your comfortzone while sober, and learing game while sober is the BEST thing you can do! It will keep all your senses sharp and you'll just grow and learn alot faster and cleaner.
I quit alcohol a while back and I find it harder to approach. MUCH harder. But when I get my momentum going its all fine. I escalate much faster while drunk aswell, and the girls are in to it. I can be quite stiff and up tight while sober. So I have to work on that.
When I drank I could just walk up to any random girl, pick her up, throw her against the wall and kiss her, and she absolutely LOVED it!
I just dont do these things while sober. But have to practise it.
PragmaticRedTruth 10y ago
Yeah, just quit. If you're not in control, don't use it.
It does fuck the gym and several other things up. Not really worth it. You can find plenty of other things to do with girls, doesn't need to just be drinking.

abuse of anything is just a symptom of a bigger problem. I have a friend who abuses his finances and puts his family at risk because last year he spent over $20k on boardgames and videogames, and the year before that he spent $12k on lego. It is clear it is a coping mechanism.
The ONLY solution is to stop this habit AND replace it with a better one. So yes, you are on the right track as long as you apply the bro science here. All that time and money wasted on booze can be invested in your body by way of lifting.
cuntdestroyer8000 10y ago
That's nuts.
ioncehadsexinapool 10y ago
Yes
I mean...how is that fixing the underlying cause? It's just a better "medicine" that way. The real solution is to find out what's causing that behavior and working on fixing it. Not just getting a new habit
MeatCurtainRod 10y ago
Yes, that is true. But stopping cold turkey or simply stopping the habit will only cause you to restart it, because there is a level of compulsion that the person needs to address. It isn't a secret that these same people have a weakness to getting addicted, period, no matter what it is. It is these same people who still can achieve greatness because if they were brought up into adulthood correctly, they would be able to focus all that compulsive energy into the workforce or a hobby. Sure, if they deal with the underlying cause, whatever it is, death in the family, divorce, etc, the damage needs to be repaired, certainly it cannot be ignored.
This brings into light the complexity of the human brain. Specifically, boys seem to think that when they get hurt, that they can somehow wait for some magic expiry date, or take some magic drug that will make it all go away. The reality is, you just have to learn to live with it. A girl may rip out your heart, but when it gets all repaired and you're ready to get back into the game, the heart will always have scars and behave differently. That is what makes the man, a man. Boys become men when they take this concept and live it.

Yeah. I've been working on accepting pain instead of just blocking it out. I blocked out happiness too. It's funny how emotions seem to be all or none
TheDonald2k16 10y ago
I haven't had any alcohol since November 2014, but I was never a drinker. I didn't ever have any alcohol until I turned 21, and I just think it all tastes nasty, so I never really drank. I can count every time I have ever had alcohol, maybe a dozen times, not very much.
Do what you like. Drink what you like. You owe nobody and don't have to justify yourself.
ioncehadsexinapool 10y ago
I've never liked drinking. I don't like being drunk and I don't like coming down from being drunk. Maybe a few shots or liquor once in a while aka quarterly. However I do fancy a red bull & vodka when I get the chance. But it's still barely enjoyable
xertlust 10y ago
34 and just started drinking. I'll let you know how it goes.
cuntdestroyer8000 10y ago
I quit drinking just before NYE as a New Year's Resolution. In hindsight, I guess it was partly for RP reasons --it was a weakness; why have any weaknesses?-- ...now I'm putting all that time, energy, and money into physical fitness and my boat.
IVIaskerade 10y ago
I drink and smoke occasionally, and never in excess. If you cannot do this, you should abstain fully.
It's entirely possible to have fun without alcohol or drugs.
TrimHer 10y ago
Not abstaining, but I've definitely noticed this lately. Tapered the drinking wayyy down to avoid losing frame, failure to recognize tests, etc.

in the late '80's i had a drinking problem and started to back off quite a bit. in the late '90's it came back and it was a problem combined with severe depression.
then one day my mother discovered she was terminally ill with cancer. i knew i could not deal with her shit and keep on drinking and get through the depression. so i started depression medicine and quit cold turkey and it was the best thing for me.
later i got married for the first time at 43 years old, 1.5 years later the marriage crashed and burned, i could not have endured it with alcohol. then, dumbass me, i got married a 2nd time at 48 years old, that marriage crashed at 1.5 months. i could not have endured it with drinking. it was best for me to stay sober through those tribulations just so i could deal with the principalities of darkness and evil.
now, i may have a half glass of wine or a drink maybe 2 or 3 times year. i tell my ladies i will not drink and drive and that is not negotiable. none have had a problem with it.
so i replaced alcohol with coffee ... lots of coffee. it was the best for me, i get more done, dont have to deal with the hangovers and on rare occasion when i drink, only half a glass does the job.
SlothOnRoids 10y ago
I hardly drink because I'm mostly a homebody and don't find the need to because I'm basically married. If I do drink it's to get a good buzz to let some of my inhibitions go and socialize more freely.
I do love smoking my weed though, it really kills off the stress from day to day life.

Quit for your own evolution, not so you have an easier time talking to women.
