Hey guys.
My name is Kid Strangelove and I run the manosphere aggregator Manosphere.com, as well as my own personal blog - KidStrangelove.com
So here's a little story about me - one year ago, I decided that 3 of my vices were holding me back (namely pot, masturbation and excessive media consumption), so I decided to give all 3 of them up for a month, record my thoughts, feelings and experiences on my blog, and see what happens.
"No Nothing November" was born.
While such strict self discipline was indeed challenging, and I had my fair share of setbacks, it felt great coming out the other side a better person and realizing that I was the one who controlled my vices, and not the other way around. So this year, I decided to bring it back, with a twist.
Enter "#NoNothingNovember" (because it's 2014 and everything needs a hashtag).
This year, instead of just challenging myself, I decided to pass on the challenge to other people as well, to give ourselves a month free from our vices, to act as a support system when needed, and to come out the other side as better men.
And the team behind "/r/TheRedPill" stepped in to help me out in spreading the message to a wider audience and add some incentives.
We challenge everyone to give up several of your vices for a month and record your experiences in a blog, or, if you don't run one - in the comments section of this very thread.
After the end of November, We will post another thread with people's final progress, and voting will begin.
If you need a place to track your progress, and you don't have a blog, consider:
- Twitter, use hashtag #nonothingnovember
- Use this subreddit to post your progress: /r/nonothingnovember
If you want to start a blog and need a hand - check out this handy HOW TO guide
What do you win?
- A Month of Reddit gold
- Have all of your blog posts stickied at the top of Manosphere.com for the month of December - which will instantly boost your traffic
- And most importantly - a sense of self control and mastery.
This is our chance to prove the Red Pill detractors wrong - we are first and foremost a self improvement community, and in November - we will emphasize that.
The Rules (and examples): In the comments below - post and update a comment about your #NoNothingNovember progress - including a link to your blog updates (if you write a blog of course).
I'll use my posts from last year as an example:
Goals: give up masturbation, pot and excessive media use for a month
Blog: http://www.kidstrangelove.com/category/no-nothing-november/ (Be sure to tag your #NoNothingNovember posts appropriately)
Updates:
- Day 1 - Day 1 - It Begins
- Day 2 - Day 2 - this will be difficult
- Day 14 -Random Thoughts
.............
Conclusion: 11 things I learned from abstaining from my vices for a month
For up and coming red pill bloggers - this is a great chance for exposure and new readers - so be expressive, diligent, and really let us into your world.
Feel free to join the conversation on Twitter as well with the hashtag #NoNothingNovember
And if you're wondering - the 3 vices that I'm giving up this year are tobacco, bad food/booze and underachieving (and no, I'm not eligible for the prize, in case you're wondering ^_^ )
ProTip: I found that "saying goodbye" to your vices before abandoning them is a great mental stimulus. So if you're planning on giving up alcohol for November - getting a little drunk on Halloween will actually motivate you more (at least this has been my experience)
Good luck - and we can't wait to hear about your progress.
MODS: Feel free to add or modify stuff here if I got something wrong
EDIT1: added the mod suggestions, as well as a link on how to create a blog
EDIT2: to all the readers and participants - if you're looking through the comments and have some experience abandoning the vices that other commenters are trying to get rid of - give em some tips from your experiences.
EDIT3: I created a master list of participating blogs. Did I miss yours? Let me know

My bad habits that I need to change till the December 31st:
1) No more regretting and whining about my bad pasts. Bygone is bygone. Thus, I shall always be proactive and futuristic in making myself better every day.
2) Always stand confidence towards various challenges thrown in my daily life.
3) Keeping myself happy and content is my number one priority.
4) Replacing fapping/porn/artificial women on the screens/image of naked women/etc. with conducting my research towards the women's biology, psychology, communication and others that work differently from me as a man. Also, I need to get back to the my former self where I used to act like a man before.
5)Replacing junk food/buffet/etc. with cooking at home daily. Consume more fresh fruits, vegetables, organic nuts, and others. Less caffeine, more rest at night, hitting the gym and jogging outdoors daily.
6) Less internet surfing, more going out on public, to breath fresh air and sunshine.
7) And most important of all above, once fall down, get up and keep moving forward. At least successfully accomplishing any one of above is much better than doing nothing about it at all.
[deleted] 9y ago
Alright, I'm not really living an out-of-control life. Except for the woman part, because you know, when I don't contact them because I have commitments to my passion, I get a thought in the back of my head that they'd fly away (I don't act on this thoughts, they just lightly touch the periphery of my thoughts, and you know what they say about thoughts, right?). That's besides the point, since I'm already at the point where I don't derive my validation from women, and instead on the high that I get while I improve on my commitments.
Alright, since I don't have much vices to eliminate. My 3 things November would be:

#NoNothingNovember
Until December 3rd I am giving up:
-Alcohol
-Masturbation/Porn
-Reddit/Social Media in excess of 30min/day.
Already gave away the beers in the fridge, deleted all porn on my PC/phone, unsubscribed from all NSFW subs, and installed a Chrome extension to time and then block reddit/FB/twitter/imgur.
Also started on a big clean bulk, but that was already planned (185lb to 210lb). Should be an interesting month!
DAY 4: Never really quantified how much time I was wasting on reddit/fb- probably around 3-4 hours every afternoon, plus maybe 2 hours at work. To fill up this newfound free time yesterday I made a workout tracker http://imgur.com/Ix37eqW ,started reading "Jupiter's Travels" by Ted Simon, and cooked/portioned out 2 days worth of food. Diet is going well, I'm obsessively tracking calories and macros on the MyFitnessPal app. Had to write a 'creative' essay for a lib-ed class, would usually have had a beer or two to get the words flowing (I'm an engineer, I hate that type of assignment).
Frozen_Tundra 9y ago
I started on Nov 1st but didn't add anything here so I will now. I have time off from work and get into bad habits pretty fast that need to go.

OK. Trying again. Nofap, no internet videos of games, get research on track, no poor work on homework, as little gaming as possible.

Vice 1: No ejaculation (I can still orgasm)
Vice 2: Wake up early every sunday through friday
Vice 3: No sugar, no bread
HerculestheRed 9y ago
Mind explaining that first one?
semondemon24 9y ago
Right before you are about to cum, you contract your pelvic muscle for about 10 seconds. It feels pretty crazy. Its like a battle on the inside, but once you win it, you will feel like you came, but no fluid came out. So basically you have still orgasmed, but managed to not ejaculate. The idea is that you get to keep your sexual energy so you never get the "fap blues" or whatever no fap advocates. For me its a cool option because I have a girlfriend whom I enjoy fucking so I cant give up sex.
Its a technique used by taoist monks.
[deleted] 9y ago
I've already quit Smoking and Drinking multiple times and this is the best advice I can think of. Typically when you get rid a habit you pick up a different one, most people go to eating. What I've found helps the most is counting calories. I use MyFitnessPal and it keeps you thinking about your progress and goals, one of the best things I ever did. I won't even drink a beer just cause its gonna fuck up my quota.
Edit: Words

Ok I'm 22 and have no social life. Let's do this:
1) No more alcohol outside of social settings. This might sound like a cop out, but I'm not an alcoholic, I don't let it get in the way of responsibilities and I don't get extremely drunk. Alcohol is just another time waster because I have nothing to do on the weekends and it makes me feel OK with being bored. Only time I'm drinking is in a bar with somebody else.
2) No more Reddit or time wasting websites. I will check the front page once a day for news and check in to other peoples blogs for a few minutes. That is it. This means no more trolling, or mindless front page surfing. No more posting shit like this
3) I'm going to talk to three new guys every day and approach at least one girl everyday.
4) No masturbation.
Anybody have any tips for a guy looking to meet more people? I am in my last year of college and haven't found clubs, teams or classes to be a good way to meet people. I already work out a lot but that's the only thing I'm really proud of. I might add video games to this but I only play on the weekends really.
MacBadoo 9y ago
Man, it sucks that I'm going to be unemployed soon. It basically means I just have even MORE time in my hands to get bored.
But I guess it just means I really need to do this because I don't want to be NEET even for a day.

Well, I've been lurking since January. Figure this may as well be my first post. Goodbye cigarettes. I was smoking half a pack a day Summer of 2013. By February I was down to five a day, by this past summer two a day. I now only smoke when I drink which leads to the next subject. No alcohol till Thanksgiving, save ONE glass of wine with dinner. Also, no cheese till Thanksgiving. No fried food at all. And finally, no Facebook. Here we go...
TheAssh0le 9y ago
Phew, that's basically all of my free time. Good thing I already have my reading list prepared. I'm on my fourth reading of "No More Mr. Nice Guy", I've got 33 Strategies of War, Mastery, Art of Seduction, and 48 Laws of Power left to read. I'm probably going to knock those out before December as well. Anyone wanna hit me with more to read?

I guess fapping, non-educational TV (I take several video courses from The Great Courses), over-sleeping, and non-business internet.
8kbps 9y ago
My goals are:
·No caffeine
·No Fap
·No wasting time (Reddit, 4chan)
Every day I will:
Go to the gym. No excuses.
Meditate for 20 min.
Approach.
TakeYourSoma1 9y ago
Goal: feel better about myself.
>No drunkenness. I like good beer and drink, so I won't cut it off completely, but fuck me. I just can't drink alcohol like I did in college. I had a few strong drinks and shots last night, woke up with a mild headache today. Already wasted some time this morning just laying around in bed. I'm getting tired of what drunkenness leads to the next day.
>No sloth. I'm already doing Stronglifts at the crack o' dawn three times a week. I want to incorporate more activity into my life. Today I'm going to go walk around in nature. This will be hard during Thanksgiving week when I visit family, but I reckon I can at least go for a brisk walk / jog around Central Park. Should be lovely this time of year.
>Mindless consumption. Been watching a lot of The Walking Dead recently. Great show. But I have been putting off finishing a book. I want to at least finish that book and start another. Maybe even finish the second one!
Doctor_Mayhem 9y ago
I guess I'll have to give up more than three.
Fapping, soda (I heart carbonation, so I'm keeping diet soda, since bodybuilders recommend it as a way to make you not want to eat carbs), wheat and dairy (I shouldn't eat that shit, anyways), oversleeping, and wasting time on the internet/video games.
Dropped out of the dating market, so got no one to impress, gonna hit the gym and martial arts when my injuries heal up. Gonna need a plan...
Keeping morning energy drink, though.
ur2l8 9y ago
Meh, artificial sugar has been shown to have opposite effects. Better than high carb, though.
Doctor_Mayhem 9y ago
You mainly use the diet soda on your day where you don't eat anything. Helps give a feeling of being full. That said, you're not supposed to just chug them one after the other.

Change : -Only do productive tasks, if mindlessly browsing, immediately stop, and do something productive. -Cut out refined sugar, empty carbohydrates from diet ~ ie, any breakfast cereal, any snack in a package ect..

Vices (things to not do):
Stop half-ass working out and staying healthy. I've been inconsistent with my gym routine and diet protocol for the past two years. This stops now.
Underachieve and go through days without a to do list or organizational system.
Virtues (things to do):
There are three components to physical fitness. 1) Lift heavy 2) Eat right 3) Sleep. These are all held together by a fourth element: consistency. I must not deviate from my routine. 1) Since I am not a beginner at lifting, I will do an intermediate routine called PHAT (http://www.simplyshredded.com/mega-feature-layne-norton-training-series-full-powerhypertrophy-routine-updated-2011.html). It features a five day split that combines strength training and hypertrophy training. 2) I need to determine my calorie and macronutrient needs, at the minimum. (After I have these down, I can add micronutrients and supplements such as fish oil and creatine, as needed.) I then need to come up with foods that match these requirements and fit with my busy schedule. Due to social reasons and to be realistic, I will allow myself one cheat meal (dinner with friends) per week, no more. 3) Sleep. 9-10 hours. This will be a tough one because it requires everything else in my life to be in check. If I slack off in any part of my life, then I will have to work into the night and lose sleep. Not good. Which brings me to the next virtue...
I need an organizational system to stick to and to encourage my productivity. I am looking into the GTD (Getting Things Done) system by David Allen. I'm using this as a quick set up guide: http://hamberg.no/gtd/ . However, I've also acquired the book and will read it by the end of the first week of November (8th).
There's the general plan. Tomorrow morning, on November 1, I will do the following:
LETS DO THIS.
[deleted]
BluepillProfessor 9y ago
Giving up pot, fap and media consumption is rich for my blood and I am taking it off the table right now. I could give up Reddit but I don't think it is a "vice."
I gave up drinking already for those damn liver enzyme tests and gave up gaming for writing, research and classroom prep. I gave up sitting on my ass for the gym last year and gave up being a Beta bitch pussy ass candy striped mother fucker at the same time.
I have thought for so long about affirmative acts I need to take and things I need to DO. This has me thinking really hard about things I need to stop doing. Mind blown. All that improvement and work but I have not thought about my vices in a long time.
I suppose my biggest remaining vice is my tendency to stay up rather late... so for November I will commit to not stay up past my bedtime. This is actually going to be rather difficult.
TheThingsIThink 9y ago
Fuck that shit, I just did Sober October.
[deleted] 9y ago
this is a little late but awesome idea Mine will be : -no masturbation -No fast food -not sleeping in late

Excellent idea to encourage abandoning vices and self discipline. I'll join in with my 3 Goals for "No Nothing November":
(1) No Smoking - my social smoking turned into a semi-regular vice. In part due to going out often and in part due to giving myself excuses. No smoking for a month should be a pretty good start towards completely abandoning this shitty habit.
(2) No Wasting Money - I am single, work a full time job and make enough where I can live a comfortable life renting my own place and eating out often. But I've noticed that especially lately I haven't been careful with my money, whether when going out or just randomly buying stuff. That money can go towards vacations or the new hobby which I'm soon to pick up.
(3) No Careless Eating - I workout pretty regularly (3-4 times a week) and my usual diet kept me around 15-20% body fat with a physique that I am pretty comfortable with. Last three weeks, for one reason or another, I've been eating like shit and aside from gaining 3.5 lbs I noticed that I'm not supplying my body with proper nutrients to compensate the workouts. This goal would be to eat properly as before - proper macros, balanced, mindful portions and healthy.
Stay strong everyone and I'll be looking forward to reading your updates!
celanyc 9y ago
I don't have a blog of my own so I'll post updates here.
[Update #1] (Day 4)
(1) No Smoking I am a semi social smoker off and on for about a decade. I used to go months without smoking and often ask for a few cigarettes when I'm 4-5 drinks deep. Every so often I would pick up a habit on a more regular basis where for a couple of months I'd buy my own packs and smoke a few cigarettes a day.
Most of the time, I enjoy smoking in the following situations:
I am currently in my phase of "casual smoking" where I have my own pack(s) and often look for excuses to smoke. Thus this #NoNothing November came at a good time to eradicate this vice. The main reason why I wanted to do this is to check and see whether I'm really in control of my smoking, or the smoking is in control of me. If I fail to last throughout an entire month - then I can openly admit that I'm an addict and weak. If I can go an entire month without it, then this is just a (admittedly shitty) light intermittent habit.
During the first day I looked for any and every excuse to smoke (see above). I have a pack openly visible on my desk that I can see even as I am typing this update. I am surrounded with friends and co-workers that smoke. But for the time being I am telling myself that giving up this early would be pretty pathetic and that I need to have a sense of control. I am hoping that this would be a bit easier as the month progresses, but for now I admittedly find myself often thinking about having a smoke
(2) No Wasting Money Haven't went out yet as I've had a few work days back to back. I've analysed my credit card spending habits and noticed that a huge chunk of money also goes towards ordering in food (sometimes 2-3 times a day). Although I can afford not cooking for myself that often and most of the food I order is relatively balanced/healthy - the challenge is to be as frugal/money conscious as possible. I haven't ordered in any food and slowly started destroying my food reserves that I haven't touched for a few weeks (canned soups + sardines, frozen meat, etc). So far so good..
(3) No Careless Eating I've been eating pretty well, especially since the whole 'no ordering in' part. I've visited the gym regularly as I should. I've followed a mini intermittent fasting regime where I go 12-14 hours without eating during work hours. At home I ate balanced/healthy food in small portions (soups, cooked meats, lots of veggies, white beans, canned food, etc).
I'll try to post an update in another 5-7 days. In part for my own sake but also as a contribution to the rest of those who are maintaining this self-improvement challenge.

3 major vices to remove:
~ Reduce social media and web browsing to reading TRP feed and responding to FB messages - max 30 minutes a day combined. This also means I'm saying goodbye to reddit for a month.
~ No more days without any exercise, even if it's only a longer walk.
~ Stop going to sleep unprepared for the following day, which directly translates into easier time getting up and having a productive morning.
Gonna use Toogl for a better time tracking.
jujj 9y ago
I'm baffled about how many puts reddit as a vice and want to kick it completely, when it's the thing that put this idea (and the rest of the good reading on this subreddit) into your life. Seems so contradicting, but then again, it's only my subjective view and people may put a lot more time in to this than me.

If I had any vices I would get rid of them, barely drink so it's easy to go six months without it. Eat healthy all the time, mainly cook for myself. Don't drink sugary shit. Working on building my home by hand so the gym is redundant. No TV or video games out here in the woods, and my Internet usage is quite low.
Perhaps I will do something in November rather than not do something, like curtail the monk mode I've been in for months and go fuck some skinny chicks.

No Masturbation
I lot of people here are planing to stop masturbating! Yes, I'm really glad to hear this as I'm a long term nofapper and It has really helped me change my life. Please visit /r/NoFap when urges come up and start a counter (how many days of nofap) to help you stay motivated. I found it's one of the greatest tools to keep a clear and focused mind. The extra testosterone will keep you vigilant. If your having sex I would recommend reading up on tantra sex and give it a shot, its a great way to retain energy.
No TV / Social Media or Games
These don't add value to our life, It's virtual entertainment without lasting benefits. I recommend quitting all social media like facebook,reddit,tv,9gag, etc, as if you only quit one or two, you will find your self spending more time on the others. Use reddit and other social media smart; like checking for what you need (self improvement), and not want (entertainment).
I find out that these tasks are much more better to do with your time:
Self-Improvement is a big part of our life, we need to do new things and get more efficient at old tasks:

Awesome.
Your comment reminded me of a phrase said (I think) by Nassim Nicholas Taleb - "Diseases of modernity".
Looking at your to-do list, I'd say none of them are really 'modern' things to do... more like natural inclinations.

Goodbye Alcohol, Facebook, and sleeping in.
RPLTR 9y ago
I'm already an alcohol-free, caffeine-free vegan and so there's not much I can do in the way of diet which seems to popular right now. But here goes:
No porn - there is a distinct difference between masturbating and porn. For example, my gf is away for the whole week and no man should go that long without a release. The difference is how you go about it. If you just pull up some porn, jerk off over the same shit, then you suffer from all the things that have been discussed at length about masturbation. However if you have a couple of healthy sessions where you think about scenarios involving your gf or other real world people (thinking about having sex with the hot girl at work for the sake of a release is not unfaithful, continually lusting for her is) then after your orgasm your reaction is "Wow that was awesome" not "Clean up the shame and regret". Too many times I let porn get in the way. So no more.
No more moaning about work - this might seem like a strange one but let me explain. Me and my gf get home at roughly the same time everyday. We spend dinner moaning to each other about how shitty our workdays were. I actually like my job, but every company has assholes. So as soon as there's nothing left to moan about it, neither of us feel better, we're miserable and it's a shitty way to start the evening. From now on, only positive discussion and no more bitching about the workplace. It's a battle you'll never win.
ShitArchonXPR 9y ago
Question: I fap to fantasy stuff; getting aroused by IRL people at work is awkward. I no longer have any regret or shame after masturbation after becoming an atheist (reason #5,592 why I'm glad I'm not a Christian anymore). Am I supposed to regret fapping? Is this just because I have Asperger's?
OwlandtheBull 9y ago
"why am I still stick thin, why do I still earn peanuts, why isn't it happening for me yet? It's very self destructive to make unrealistic goals and then beat yourself up when they're not achieved, this is essentially what I've been doing since discovering the community and ultimately it's unhealthy."
I was exactly here several years ago. And it sucked.
If you continue to work, you will change. It will take a while though, years in fact. Looking back will give you great satisfaction when you see how far you'll have come.
My secret to goals? Make the initial ones super specific and super easy. You must walk before you can fly. Kick ass at something small, get the pride and satisfaction that go with that, then move up.
And never ever beat yourself up for failing. This is the number one reason people fail at life; they can't stand the self-harrassment that goes with failing. Self-hatred and spite is far worse than that from anyone else.
KidStrangelove 9y ago
2 and 3 are harder than they seem, but both have the same solution - other fun, rewarding activities. Go play pool, or to a basketball game, or watch homeland - ANYTHING to avoid slipping into a default mode. Positivity sometimes needs to be worked on.
With point 3 - learn to give yourself intermittent rewards, and know that it's absolutely ok to enjoy yourself.
Curious - have you ever tried E/Molly?
RPLTR 9y ago
Thanks man.
I did E a few times back. Got me pretty twisted. Why'd you ask?
KidStrangelove 9y ago
I've done Molly maybe 3 times, each 6 months to a year apart from the last time.
I just remember really enjoying it because it made me feel naturally loving - I wanted to give everyone a hug, and be super positive. And I realized - while inducing these feelings was artificial - I was actually capable of feeling that positive - from then on it was a mental exercise to recreate that wonderful feeling
UGoBoom 9y ago
If you run firefox, try the Leechblock addon, which lets you self-block websites of your choice. I've blocked imgur, funnyjunk, and all of my favorite porn sites about 4 months ago, and that's all it took to quit wasting my time there.

It feels so good to get away from reddit for a while. The first few days or so may be tough if you're used to checking it daily, but after that you feel so much better and realize how silly it is to invest a significant amount of your day reading low effort comments from strangers on topics that have no effect on your life.
It also made me appreciate books more.

Couple of my own recommendations (maybe not sexual-strategy RP per se, but definitely self-improvement):
*The Little Book of Common Sense Investing by John Bogle. I've read way too many finance and investment books, and the overwhelming majority of them are complete shit. This one however is an incredibly educating and quick read.
*4-Hour Body by Tim Ferriss. A book about how to speed up getting the body you want with the fewest amount of steps.
*The Ultramind Solution by Mark Hyman. The title of this book sounds stupid, but the book itself is amazing. It's a health book with the emphasis on mental conditions; however, the majority of Hyman's suggestions not only help/cure people with things like ADHD and depression, but also things like diabetes, obesity, acne, etc.
I own copies of each because they're great for reference purposes, but I've seen them at numerous libraries.
[deleted] 9y ago
Damn, I have that Ultramind Solution on my shelf but haven't read it since I don't have the money to follow it yet. How did it go for you?
4TomorrowWeDie 9y ago
Saved my life. I don't mean that in a figurative way - I wholeheartedly believe I'd be 6 feet under if not for applying the stuff in that book. About 3 years ago I got extremely sick - tried every medication they threw at me. Nothing worked. Medical bills started piling up. Started reading health books and finding stuff that actually did work. Biggest problem - my diet was complete shit. You don't need a lot of money to start implementing what Hyman talks about. Just change what you currently buy for better options. Honestly, I SAVE money by eating healthy (even with excluding hospital costs and doctors visits). I had never realized how much money I wasted on soda before. I don't know where you live, but if you live anywhere north of Florida and can only buy one supplement, I'd recommend Vitamin D. It's really cheap and extremely beneficial to the body. Also get the Omega-3 eggs. They're going to cost you more but they're definitely worth the extra amount since Omega-3 fats are so lacking in our modern diets (unless you're eating a lot of wild Alaskan salmon or flaxseed lol). This way, you can also save money by not having to take a fishoil supplement. Uhhhhh as far as a few more food recommendations - Coconut oil. Almonds. Spinach. Kale. Pumpkin seeds. Don't worry too much about buying all the supplements, just start with diet first - most of what you need can be found in healthy food. But eliminating refined sugar is definitely the most important part of that entire book. Best of luck, man
Seishuu 9y ago
The 4-Hour Body is insanely good, I really enjoyed the whole thing and still benefit from the mindset presented in it. Long-term and short-term self-development tool right here.
RP408JZG 9y ago
Okay so this will probably be like Internet suicide, but I am a Ferriss fan. All of his books are a huge wealth of knowledge imo. But I'm also a bay area kid at heart, and most of his following is there.
200mgtestc 9y ago
I get all the criticisms of him, but at the end of the day I don't care. He's engaging and helps my life. That's good enough for me.

latino666 9y ago
Mine will be giving up booze for a month.. Challenge accepted.
KidStrangelove 9y ago
I'm curious - how old are you? Are you a student or a professional? I find that the hardest parts of giving up booze are the social expectations to drink, I wonder what yours are
latino666 9y ago
28 year old here.
Quit the whole "socially drinking" scenario can be a pain in the ass indeed. In fact, my drinking has started through social expectations as you mentioned back when I was 19 years old. I ended up liking it (specially beer) and now I usually drink by myself(I actually prefer drinking alone).
So what I'll do when I'm at a social meeting and people are drinking is just having one beer, drink it slowly so people don't think I'm not polite or anything. And that's because I like beer, but when I'm at a birthday party at work and everyone is having cake or something, I'll gladly say no, because I don't like it and I have set myself a limit on how much I'll give in in situations like that.
If you like something, it's usually good to give in a little bit in a social environment but you should also learn how to say no if you really don't like something. Should be a given, but a lot of people have problems with that.
We_Are_Legion 9y ago
If any of you are going to be like those weak attention-seeking pussies on new year's who make a promise and don't keep it past the first few days, don't even bother.
The reason why doing this over a month, and in a consistent manner, is the format chosen is because that is the approximate time it takes a person to form a solid self-sustaining habit.
By forcing yourself to commit to long term goals, and restraining yourself from acting foolishly for a fleeting short-term reward, you are contributing to a future ability to do even better. You are literally re-modeling your brain until these better choices and abilities come more naturally to you. Until they make tangibly instinctive.
Think of your brain as like a muscle and think of this as an exercise as essential as lifting, if not more so.
You are cultivating here is mastery over self. And as some pretty nifty side-effects, you get 3 or more snazzy new habits.
So by the nature of this exercise, you start small and work your way up. Make a target for this month that you will keep, something solid and well-defined so you have no room to make excuses. And carry that momentum and increased self-control for bigger and better goals the next month. I swear it won't even feel like a chore anymore by month 2.
Remember, the first steps will inevitably be the hardest. But once you start making changes, the effects multiply and carry over to other areas. Each step solidifies your resolve until it becomes easier.
Get to it, gentlemen. Make yourselves proud.
OwlandtheBull 9y ago
"Think of your brain as like a muscle and think of this as an exercise as essential as lifting, if not more so."
From years of monthly and weekly goals I can endorse the above. The first time you get through a month clean, without any breakdown of will, the feeling of satisfaction is immense. That then becomes your new baseline of will from which it gets increasingly more difficult to fall below.
The secret to starting from Weak-Willed Pussy status is creating a goal you are sure to complete. It's gotta be easy.
I can barely believe I was a weak-willed pussy only 5 years ago. If you keep lifting you'll get even stronger.
"Make yourselves proud" - this too is not a throwaway line. Pride is one of the strongest emotions, but WWPs never truly experience it until they have achieved something notable. Like this challenge. Once you find pride and satisfaction, you will never go back.
redpilluser 9y ago
This gave me a brain-wave:
I've heard of a version of the definition of freedom/power as "The ability to live your life as you see fit" (or some other variation of that).
I see freedom and power as - how many options I have available (freedom) and reaping the benefits of said options (power).
How I'm connecting that to here is that for most of us, having grown up and shaped by circumstances, we don't notice that there is increased freedom and power 'available' to us, but since we're entrenched into our conditioning... we never take up on the task of choosing [internally-->outwards) instead of continuing being shaped [externally-->inwards).
So we have evolution giving us our 'natural' instincts; in effect it 'chose' for us, as did society, family and environment etc. The Red Pill (for me) shows how this happens and says, "You see how your world works, now you have the choice to change/calibrate things for desired results... get to work."
I'd say that power can be referred to as 'cultivated instinct'. Before that happens, I'd have to freely choose whichever option to practice which would give desired result.
Anyway, just thought I'd write this down here instead of having it run through my head and fade away.

Goals
Updates - (Rewards?)
I'm using an index card system, with each card pertaining to each of the three goals. I've marked out 31 boxes to tick off as I get to midnight on each day in November, I'll tick off that day.
Is anyone else using a reward system to track and motivate progress? I'd like to know how yours work.
OwlandtheBull 9y ago
Rewards are an awesome idea. Mine are usually mental; I'll give myself a "pat on the back" when I complete a sub-goal, a day for example without booze.
Then, after a large goal has been completed, I'll reward myself with a couple days off goals. I put the whip away, and anything goes. This is how I replenish the will power system, which has a limited amount of fuel.
Too many people break their own legs by:
Moral? Find a reward system that works for you, and use it. And when you fail, cos you will, never ever beat yourself up. Say "I'll do better next time", and try again.
redpilluser 9y ago
The index cards are a brilliant idea.
c_pred 9y ago
Interesting challenge, Kid. A good way to test our discipline with things we know are bad or holding us back but still do anyways because of a bit of enjoyment we get out of it. Instead of the subtraction theory of only removing things from our lives, maybe try the replacement theory with giving up something negative with a possible positive thing. For example, many people including myself, when quitting tobacco started eating more and gaining weight not realizing that one habit took the place of another. Just something to think about in the next month.

Definitely my iPad/laptop. It's like the fuel to all my addictions. Porn, social media stalking, procrastination.. Don't feel like studying? Go torrent a movie or get lost on reddit or YouTube. Feeling lonely? Go stalk your ex on Facebook and IG or watch hours of porn. (Though I must say, I've made good progress on nofap. Tranny porn doesn't make my dick twitch anymore, and cuckold porn only interests me about an hour into my porn session) .. So yeah. Cold turkey on the social media. I'll supplement them with meditation in the morning. Maybe my lifts will improve too.

Objective : Get a £20k + career started ( been applying for jobs the past 3 months in London since i graduated, no luck).
Survive in London ( I have 2 minimum wage jobs I need another one fast !)
How
1 :Shove my pride away and reinvent my C.V. and Cover Letter
2 :Abstain from masturbation to give me extra drive
3 :Change my accent ( I have an accent that people tend to be prejudice towards)
4: Internet time is limited to job search / reddit late at night
5 : Attempt to get a minimum wage job in central, central London to increase networking chances
6 :for the fuck of it, eat like a caveman (clean) to keep my body fat low and maintain that ripped look
7: New tactic apply to businesses directly.

This is cool. My first thought is that, you know, #Lent beat you out by a minute or two to the idea. But, then again, most people halfheartedly give up shit they don't actually care about, then brag on themselves for 6 weeks because they stopped going to Starbucks. Plus, I have a feeling there'll be more real community support for anyone taking this on, since the goal here is to be extraordinary, rather than simply avoiding the appearance of laziness and doing as little as possible.
I'll have to think on what's still holding me back.
ShitArchonXPR 9y ago
Back when I was a Christian, I didn't see why we were supposed to care so much about Lent. It isn't even in the Bible. I never felt compelled to self-improve or give up anything. I bet this is partially because I wasn't really introduced to it until my late teens even though my parents were Baptist.
Except for one time early on, when I tried giving up masturbating: I believed it was sinful. At the same time, I was a horny teenager and I didn't have the access to furry porn I have now. So it didn't work.
TL;DR Fuck religion. Nothing of value was lost.

Updates:
Oversleeping is definitely a big vice for mine and I am fortunate enough for the luxury of it given my career. However, it holds me back, doesn't develop any discipline, and fucks up my sleeping schedule.
Cannabis is something I use to increase my self-awareness and explore my psyche, but it's a crutch. It's a temporary tool I refuse to be dependent on for self-improvement. Which brings me to...
Meditation. It results in the permanent lasting changes in my mind which actually led me to even find this site. I do concentration meditation throughout the day and mindful or body scanning meditation at night. No more skipping days.
A link to all my #NoNothingNovember posts.
KidStrangelove 9y ago
Take it from me - since herb was part of my #NoNothingNovember last year - its one of those vices you need to give a big going away party to. Smoke yourself retarded before the 1st - that way you won't notice the first few days, and by that point you'll hopefully dive head first into the good habits you want to replace your bad ones with!
deepthrill 9y ago
Great advice thanks. Hoping to sort of replace the short term effects of weed with the long term effects of meditation. Do you have experience with that?
OwlandtheBull 9y ago
I found it depends on whether you spin your weed. Giving up both pot AND nicotine can be next to impossible, and this can make concentration during meditation difficult. If you wanna go completely Zen though... it won't matter.

Goals: Trackable actions
Stop Wasting Time: Time track using Toggl. I've wanted to implement this for forever after so many books have recommended it. I often wonder what I did with the last hour. As they say: what gets measured gets managed.
Stop being Disorganized: I'm a huge fan of GTD, and when I do Daily Reviews consistently, my life is so much less stressful. I'm not sitting there thinking about what I'm not doing, and am able focus entirely on what I have decided what's important.
Stop getting caught up in busy work: I have employees. I have a virtual assistant that I never use. I still get involved in shit I shouldn't, and all of the sudden 2 months have gone by without working on an important project. My goal is to aggressively delegate way more than I feel comfortable with by creating a "To Delegate" checklist in my daily review every day..
Definitely looking forward to this, as thinking about this stuff (and not implementing it) has been a point of stress as well.

This pretty much sounds like monk mode to me. I already do this. I cut all social networking to 1 hour/month, TV and reddit to 1 hour per day, no games, no other useless unproductive drivel, 2 hours of reading and everything else for my overarching goals which I tweak every few weeks to keep myself on track.
Once you do monk mode for a while, it becomes your modus operandi

One year for New Years, I gave up booze, animal products and caffeine for a month.
The caffeine part was the only part I couldn't hack. It was too much. I gave up by week 2
RU_Crazy 9y ago
Dropping coffee changed my life. I have more energy and sleep about two hours less per night, so little sleep in fact I haven't set an alarm in months. The first three weeks or so are a total bitch but once you turn that corner...holy fuck. FWIW I still drink earl gray tea and that does not seem to have the negative effects coffee brought me.
ibuprofiend 9y ago
Coincidentally, I've been doing nofap, no caffeine, and no soda for the last couple weeks, and the latter two have been way harder to stay away from. It's extraordinary that mountain dew is addictive enough to overpower one's reproductive impulse.
[deleted] 9y ago
definitely ditch soda, the high fructose corn syrup goes straight to the gut.
enticingasthatmaybe 9y ago
When I cold quit sodas I had a fucking headache for 2 weeks and my sweat smelled like what I imagine the trash compactor room smelled like on the death star.
CSMastermind 9y ago
Giving up soda is one of the best decisions you can make for your life. As someone who was a Mountain Dew addict for years, you'll feel so much healthier and happier when you give it up.
GhostOfAladdin 9y ago
It is the sugar that is getting you, man. Takes a few days of no sugar to kick the sugar addiction.
ShekelBanker 9y ago
I get the impression caffeine and the feel to drink something carbonated are the main issues. I myself have tricked myself into substituting MD/Pepsi with carbonated mineral water and it worked.
[deleted]
Iupvoteforknowledge 9y ago
Few days? I'm two weeks in already and I still get head aches on occasion. It's gonna take longer than that.
GhostOfAladdin 9y ago
Maybe the headaches are caused by sugar and other parts of the diet.
Iupvoteforknowledge 9y ago
It's caused by the lack of sugar. Found that out after some googling.
Ill_mumble_that 9y ago
Sugar is one of the most addicting drugs out there. Curbed it myself by switching to Stevia.
GhostOfAladdin 9y ago
It is crazy. Causes all sorts of diseases like diabetes and general inflammation but yet it is in everything.
KidStrangelove 9y ago
with no soda - it might not be the caffeine you're missing - it might also be the feel of fizzy drinks. Have you tried sparkling water mixed with some lemon or lime juice as a sub? Just throwing it out there
ibuprofiend 9y ago
No I haven't had anything carbonated so I might have to try that.
georgespelvin1 9y ago
I drink half liters of soda water mixed with a few tablespoons of unsweetened cranberry juice throughout the day. Refreshing, no sugar, and good for the prostate. Worth a try.
WindowToAlaska 9y ago
Holy shit. Would crystal lite work?
[deleted]
redpillschool Admin 9y ago
Cranberry has sugar. All fruit has sugar.
AntixD 9y ago
he means processed/refined,the sugar from fruit is way better and healthy too especially when quitting soda

For anybody trying to lose pounds or stay in ketosis though, just remember- fruit and starches are full of junk carbs.
LordhavePercy11 9y ago
Preworkout fruit can be a safe bet. You'll burn that off.
dudesyouknowme 9y ago
For me it's alcohol and reddit. i don't really have a fapping problem anymore but I want to keep going so I will add that in.
However this only goes until thanksgiving for me. I am going to Medellin for thanksgiving and I assure you I will be drinking.

Good luck guys.

I really like this, #NoNothingNovember, my goal Starting next week will also include "Monk Mode."
Landing a much better job (already looking with positive prospects)
Quitting smoking
No drinking
Starting my lifting routine again after 4 years (routine and progress charts almost done)
Focusing on kicking the shit out of my classes
No lame Facebook or time wasting websites
No gaming in free time, or at all, books and life enriching things only
No pussy (similar to the "be happy with yourself first" before you can be with anyone else philosophy, if you don't "need pussy" it will never be on a pedestal in your life, helps maintain frame, haven't pedestaled for years though)
Going HARD MODE with this, proving my self-discipline and ability to dedicate myself to something to myself.

Goals:
No excessive media use for a month (Excluding TRP sidebar readings GIVEN that I scheduled it the night before)
No Underachieving/Strictly following a flexible daily schedule - dictating what I should be doing at what hour of the day; ensuring productivity.
Updates:
Coming November 1st. I'm considering making a blog specifically this challenge.
Also, this reminds me a lot about the "30 days of discipline" I had once partaken in. Hopefully the vices I kick for 30 days will last for the rest of my life.
How does that saying go again? "Would you rather suffer the pain of regret, or discipline". I look forward to this.

Goals:
Meditation. I can't hold my focus for any length of time at present. Whenever I focus on breath I just immediately begin to control it. And I get anxious from staying still so I stop. I'm going to get back into it and maintain it for upto 30 minutes.
This one's a bit ambitious but I'm going to stop letting that stop from trying. I'm going to work at leaving my current job and landing one in a field I've been hoping to get into for a while now(job titles redacted on second thought). I'm going to spam my CV, go meet people, call favours, whatever it takes until I've got my foot in the door and a confirmed gig. One month deadline.
Gym. No more screwups. 4 times a week.
Approach more women. Get better at it. Sleep with at least 4. One per week. (Oh god).
no getting sucked into mindless scrolling on reddit frontpage. that stuff is useless and a time drain.
deepthrill 9y ago

Godspeed.
chillmonkey88 9y ago
I've got one that I'm adding because of an article I found on a girls fb...
3 liters of water a day challenge... no other side details with the diet... live a normal 30 days and make sure you drink a gallon of water every day... then post pics. The examples they used were phenomenal how some people changed...
On the flip side... mobile data and master baking seem legit. I'm going to keep a journal as well. Good luck.
BluepillProfessor 9y ago
A gallon is double the recommended intake which is fine if you are active and sweat a lot but either way water intoxication can kill if you drink as little as 2-3 liters in an hour.
chillmonkey88 9y ago
It will be dispersed throughout... and yes I will be very active... need to cut some weight and gym more.
chillmonkey88 9y ago
I just realized my math was wrong on that too... I'll change it to 3 liters is the number (I assumed that was a little more than a gallon but I was most certainly wrong).
redpilluser 9y ago
Not so sure about the gallon of water thing bruv...
I recommend you check Arthur DeVany's brief intro to Evolutionary Fitness especially where he says to 'drink to thirst'. The important thing is to be sensitive to the body's water level instead of an arbitrary amount that doesn't allow for variation.
Had to put in my two cents here as I've also been slacking on my health and fitness. Thanks for the comment and all the best.
chillmonkey88 9y ago
I'm going to see what three liters does daily (not gallon). Either way just hydrating more for the whole month and not neglecting my water intake is the final goal... good luck to you and cheers!

I'll hop on. I've tried NoJerkNovember and always bitched out about a week and a half in. I'm refusing to do that this time.
Vices/Goals:
No Masturbation
No time-wasting websites (facebook, twitter, TheChive, and Reddit front page)
No video games
Get my homework/study habits together and fix my grades
*Don't get sucked into my old relationship when I go home for break, as I continue to do against my own better judgement.
I feel like that's a lot, but they all work together. The less things I waste time on the more time and energy I have to put towards school and the gym (I have absolutely no problem going 3+ times a week, so that doesn't even need to be up there.)
KidStrangelove 9y ago
I'm wondering - do you have any gym bros?
The thing that makes sticking to a workout hard for many people is the fact that its a lonely, isolated activity.
Shit - that's why I like my Crossfit gym - it's also very social.
Red_SoloCup 9y ago
I guess my first post was deleted cuz I just made the account (didn't have a throwaway for RP, needed one) but anyway, I'm on a college sports team. I'm required to lift 3 days a week, plus practice twice and conditioning once a week. (Its the off season, during season that turns into practice 6 days a week plus games). But yeah, having a team makes it so, so easy to do it. A great thing to do for anyone trying to get into lifting more would be to get a buddy (or even do it alone, which is probably better, but harder) and sign up for a real hardcore gym. the kind of gym where the bars are covered in chalk and there are more olympic lifting platforms than benches. then get your ass in there and learn from the big dudes. i can guarantee you'll meet people in the gym that are willing to help you on your way, cuz they've all been a noobie at one point. you'll learn way more from broscience than you will from just reading forums (esp. /r/fitness) and other diarrhea people who think they know spit out.
PS. im using "you" to refer to anyone looking to get into lifting, not you as in KidStrangeLove

Nach_Rap 9y ago
One of my worse vises....my worse vise is setting up goals, planning them, writing them down, gathering the materials and resources to execute them, stick to the plan for three days and then quitting.
Vice 1: Quitting.
I've tried /r/NoFap and /r/pornfree and the farthest I've gotten is 30+days. I never masturbate without porn, so I'm quitting both.
Vice 2: Masturbation & Porn
It's well known that I eat a lot of chips and a lot, A LOT of sunflower seeds. But I'll just group the bad food category together.
Vice 3: Junk food. Including fast food.
Goal 3: Eat Healthy.
NoNothingNovember
KidStrangelove 9y ago
Good luck man! We are here to help if you need anything.
For the junk food challenge - watch your snacking - I don't know how your life is - but have some apples or something on you because snacking is where people usually break their food habits.
Make healthy eating easy for you - whatever that means in your case
Nach_Rap 9y ago
Thanks for the support. I know the snacks will be the hardest challenge for me. There's a documentary out there that reported junk the contents of junk food are actually addictive, so ill report how my body handles the withdrawal.

Cocaine , sleeping late, not being socially active. I think I'm going to type up dailies on my lunchbreaks and record my weekends in one post... Cocaine really makes me talk to much, and I've said too much, too much. I shouldn't be up right now, so many people like me and i push people away ftequently, i have a real hard to brush sigma mindset.
KidStrangelove 9y ago
I know this is probably the most contradictory sounding thing ever - but herb helps you quit cocaine.

I plan on dropping at least 3 posts on this during the month. Will tie it in to everything else: game, energy levels, motivation, mindset...it will be very interesting to see what happens.

Here's what I'll do:
Probably some more, I'll post to the subreddit.
KidStrangelove 9y ago
just make sure you don't end up spending hours on TRP as well :)
you know what really helps with the media stuff? Talking to people, and telling them straight up about the no media challenge.
"Hey, so I'm doing this thing with my friends where we avoid all media for a month, but I hate being uninformed, so as corny as this sounds - what's new in the world?"
wall-of-meth 9y ago
When I'm doing it right, I won't have hours to spend. Guess I will need to use what time is left inbetween.
Nice idea, thank you. I should do that, so I don't end up tricking myself.
BlueChilli 9y ago
No mindless scrolling. (Most all of Reddit). Seriously, I had noticed this just the other day. I was on page 73. It's the worst because it's not even entertaining and when I'm done, I don't even really remember anything. I downloaded a page blocker and only pop in for a few minutes.
Three sets of pushups to failure every day. This is not a strength exercise, it's a willpower exercise.
cbruins22 9y ago
What did you download as a page blocker? I'd like to give it a try.
themutato 9y ago
Add in some pistols and chin ups as well. Then you will get your strength and willpower gains in.
Snivellious 9y ago
I'm might borrow the pushups one. I hate pushups, so they're probably the best willpower exercise I can think of.

SaSpursfan21 9y ago
i have a question, you said you have up masturbation...like you just completely stopped...i mean you will have wet dreams eventually? or did you limit it to once a week?
semondemon24 9y ago
You can also practice/learning how to orgasm without ejaculation. You basically hold your pelvic muscle super tight for about 10 seconds right when you are about to come. Feels like your cumming but there is nothing there. Its pretty cool. The idea is that you never lose your sexual energy when you dont cum.
KidStrangelove 9y ago
Here's the thing, I completely stopped and at first yeah, it was hard (figuratively and literally). But your mind gets so jazzed up and sexually hungry that you become a macking animal. Your game results will skyrocket
Gnoppong 9y ago
This is a really great idea guys. Finally we will see what we are truly made of and show those fucking distractions in our life who is the fucking boss. fuckingkike 9y ago
Yup, going to continue abstaining from stupid contests. Does that make me in or out?
ImNorwegian 9y ago
Okay, inspired by some of you guys:
Vices to drop:
That's about it I figure. I might add a fiew things as I see the need.
November 1st:
Pretty stoked to start this thing. I have started a few days ahead, pretty much right after I saw this post. Funnily enough I think the websites are going to be the hardest to get by without. I notice how ingrained reddit has gotten, as I type in the website pretty much on instinct now when I am not entertained by something else. I'm looking forward to the point when I have gotten off that habit.
Other websites have taken its place though, like youtube and others, and so I think I should add those to the list as I see them becoming a problem. I think my overarching goal in this regard should be wasting less time on the 'net in general.
I am not really as bothered by the abstinence from masturbation as I thought I would be, but that should get worse one of these days.
My guitars were the first thing I failed at, but only because I didn't think about it. I sat down and just picked one up out of instinct. I'll pack them away in their respective bags to prevent that from happening again.
December 5th:
I am sad to say I lost interest in this project fairly quickly, and pretty much ended up failing all of the points above at some point, except a few. Eventually I stopped thinking about it, and would find myself drinking a bottle of coke, or jerking off aimlessly, or playing guitar, without actually having told myself that I didn't care that I failed.
I regret that I made such a big list of things, and didn't just stick with one or two. I have a tendency to think in terms like "all or nothing" or "if you're gonna do it, do it right" and so on. And I usually fail. Maybe it would have been easier to concentrate on just reddit and coke. I know what I'll have to work on now at least.
themutato 9y ago
Don't give up guitar for a month! Just start up a dedicated hour every day or two that you confine your playing to. Art is good for the soul brother (and I bet you'll be less stressed about exams).
ImNorwegian 9y ago
I can never control myself around my guitars, so I think it is for the best. On the flip side, I always thoroughly enjoy getting back to them after a time of celibacy, so now Christmas should be magical in all sorts of ways.
KidStrangelove 9y ago
wow, thats a big undertaking - good luck. It gets a LOT easier if you find a good behavior to replace a bad one - a good book, a workout, and some much needed relaxation or wind down time.
The chans and reddit are very "twitch" behaviors, may I suggest deleting the related apps from your phone?
ImNorwegian 9y ago
Thanks, I hope I haven't been too ambitious! I tend to do that.
"Twitch" is a very good word for it, at least how I relate to the websites. Even the thought of an empty browser makes words like "reddit" spring to mind, and typing out the word is almost a reflex, so it is past time I got away for a bit.

Tom_The_Human 9y ago
If you don't mind me asking, what the fuck's wrong with cursing?
Snivellious 9y ago
Probably not the main reason, but a fun fact is that swearing while in pain improves our resilience to pain, but the effect is more pronounced the less often you use the word.
It's not a reason to quit swearing, but it did make me reconsider my language habits. It turns out that keeping something taboo or tied to strong emotion is actually useful for giving that word new power, so I try not to swear from my whole vocabulary anymore. When I get actually hurt I'm grateful for it.

[deleted] 9y ago
"fuck" tends to lose its shock factor when its the 4th most used word in your vocabulary.
