Alright cocksuckers, some of you (including me), have been internalizing the Red Pill very well. The masks are off, you're seeing reality for what it is. You're hitting the gym, sweating off that fat, and/or internalizing game. Congratulations. You share some RP truths with your cousin who just got cheated on, it works well for him. You're catching IOIs from the girls while your guns are hugging your sleeves, but you're focusing on your god damn mission. Some of you are proud of your progress, as I am as well. I've come a long way here, been in and out of calculated monk modes to build bricks where my mind and body were unguarded. If you're reading this and you're smiling, solid fucking work.
Recently, I discovered something mind blowing that we seldom talk about here. Some of the Vanguards and Endorsed Contributors only brush on this topic from the perspective of social media, but I'm here to dig this a bit deeper.
Over the weekend, I went to my friend's cottage and did a tab of Acid. I've never done acid before and I don't really go much to the countryside, so the visuals and the deep thoughts that came were refreshing. Before it kicked in, I realized something: my phone was on 1%! 1 fucking percent! How am I going to share these beautiful photos of the countryside and my friends in sexy bikinis?! How will I know if my ex from 5 years ago saw the story? The amount of missed digital likes ... oh man! What the fuck do I do?
I decided: fuck it. Threw my phone on the guest bed and I decided to not even look at it for the remainder of the day. What followed was magical. I don't know if it was the Acid trip, or it was me throwing the phone away, or all the above, but my connections genuinely increased with all my friends. Nature looked beautiful. The breathing textures caught between the warm sunlight. The snakes in the grass flowing, toads bouncing, chirping birds. Social media can't fucking compete. Hell, social media is miles away from what I am seeing right now.
After my trip, I decided to delete all my social media apps. Even the Reddit application where I browse this subreddit everyday. I need to live fucking life, man. The only applications I keep is Slack for work and WhatsApp to organize hangouts with friends. It's been 4 days since my trip and my lifestyle's been yielding increasing margins of satisfaction, purpose, and general happiness.
My sprint sessions have been uninterrupted and with increased focus. I no longer give a fuck what anyone is up to right now, just what's in front of me. If I see someone, face to face, I am more genuinely interested in what's up with their life since I am not looking at their stories. Etc. etc. These positive yields worked well for me since that's where I was weak.
This is how to stop your phone from cucking you:
-
Buy a fucking book and keep it in you
No more excuses when you're commuting. Don't even lift your phone. Just pick up your book and learn something. Recently, I picked up Against the Gods: The Remarkable Story of Risk. Much more interesting than what jennykikes bikini photos have to offer. It could be about any fucking thing. Just get a god damn fucking book and control yourself to read it when you feel the dopamine-surging urge to fiend on your phone. -
Turn off your phone for 5 hours
This one is an exercise. Turn off your phone and continue along with work. Notice the amount of times you pick up your phone, RANDOMLY. It becomes almost bizarre, as you pick up your phone and click the home button, but then it's empty since it's turned off. You realize this: what the fuck am I picking this shit up for? Log it down, if need be. I did the same because I wanted to understand my behaviours a little further and I found out the following: I pick up the phone when I encounter an obstacle in my code, when I want to feel validated on social media, or when I want to mental masturbate on information. - Interact
With no intended purpose. Just fucking talk to someone man. Maybe you're at the library or getting beer. Smile at that sexy blonde, wave at the old man, or give props to a gym bro. Much more interesting than a piece of fucking aluminum digitally fostering your meaningless virtual life.
The_Chiselnator 5y ago
The simple reality is that social media and the rest of that "connection/network" shit is designed to sap the lifeblood out of you so that it can be turned into dollars by corporations. Abandon social media, live life, read books, meet USEFUL friends and understand that you can be awesome and have an awesome life without the validation of strangers

Only 4 days? Come back when you stay off for 90 days or more. Right now, you are at a high and my instincts tell me you are just emotional now. Male-hamstering if you may...Logic would tell you the purpose of social media is to socialize. Everything has a light and a dark side. If your phone or apps are negatively affecting your life, you have discipline problem. its not a social media probelm or phone problem. I drink alcohol occasionally, but I can drink every minute as everyone else can...
I'm not knocking your decision because cold turkey sometimes is the best way to stop a habit. But Your phone is not cuckolding you, you are addicted to it like many of us. I have went back and forth with this and I found totally disregarding technology that has tons of benefits because I lack discpline is not a technology issue nor more than eating fastfood because I am too much of a lazy ass to cook is a nutrition problem.

RoughTeddy 6y ago
The number one reason why people go for their phone is to check the time. Eliminate the need to do that and you start cutting out the possible incidences of "Oh, well, while I have it out, let me check..."
VomarV 6y ago
I agree, take a break from social media and focus on reading a book or pick up a new hobby. Social media turns into an obstacle that I feel creates these false realities that take away from who we want to be. You always see fake stories that you have to be some super stud to get the girl you want. Since taking a break from social media I've been reading so much. My mind is less clouded. Also the acid definitely influenced what you are saying. On my first acid trip, I almost through my phone out the window on the drive back home because I realized how much of a waste it was.
redpillschool Admin 6y ago
Phones and social media are validation addiction. I agree. But not everything is cuckoldry. Let's focus on our precision of language.

Well, you feel soo illuminated by one simple trip to the nature. I can imagine the stress you are having at your daily life. Don't get me wrong but nature will not complete you alone. You will start to get bored from these trips soon because you are alone in there. I bought an adventure motorcycle just for this, well it is amazing to spend time outside in the nature, but too much of it bores too. Don't get too excited like you don't need anyone anymore.
Nocryingok 6y ago
TLDR: OP had an acid trip and things he has discovered a secret, but in fact it's just a combination of:
Reality is: to avoid overusing your phone is a very hard task, that you will always have to fight. It's also impossible to be occupied at all times, and using social media (esp. Instagram) the right way will reap you good benefits.
OMGtothemoon 6y ago
Dude I did acid at a red rocks show the other weekend and when I pulled out my phone I couldn't even tell what time the clock said. All the light was streaming onto the floor so I just put it back in my pocket and was like "oh well so much for that thing" lol

Referencing #1.
A book is a good start. A journal is better. With a book you're still a consumer with a journal you're a creator.
I keep a visual journal. Im an artist that sketches the things around me. Occasionally I will write down my thoughts. When I look at some old sketches or thoughts it gives me a dopamine hit. I am my own source of dopamine in this way. A closed loop.
I use my phone for what I need at that time. Without getting distracted and surfing. 60% battery is common for me at the end of the day.
priestfrommiddleeast 6y ago
Can confirm the dopamine hits of your creation! I haven't written in my journal in a long time, but just looking back at some entries in 2013-2014 instantly gives me a dopamine hit as well. It pays very well in your mind to see how much you've changed based on what you used to write.

They lift you all the way up and slams you so hard that all your mistakes/thoughts/problems will start making sense & it’ll bring you back to plateau.

i think its the end user decision if they want to use their phone to look at facebook thots and offer them social validation .... or on the contrary ... maybe some phone users actually don't do that and they prefer to use their phone to read, bulleting boards, reddit, trp, other forums, world news, stock prices, send and read work e-mails, contact customers via messaging apps for business related purposes, buy and sell crypto, pay bills online, manage assests, place sports bets, order food, order products etc etc...
sorry for going on and on ..just wanted to exagerate a bit to prove you that you were using your phone in the wrong way ... the way i use mine, it improves my life.
also i am no phone addict, but turning it off wouldn't benefit anyone ....
but hey please go ahead and turn your phone off for 5 hours at a time, if its easier for you than to learn to focus on the task you are doing and to only use the phone when you actually need to use it for functionality purposes :))
Raggos 6y ago
Have been without a phone (it died) for the past 8 days.
My sleep is better.
My focus is sharper.
I'm calmer.
When I go out, I wonder who will I run into today/tonight.
Life's becoming more amazing...w/o a fcking phone.
KeffirLime 6y ago
The acid certainly contributed.
What you're talking about is presence.
In our current society our mind tends to constantly wonder. They are trained to be this way. We feel a constant need to be distracted. We are focused on the past or the future but very seldomn right now. When we have a moment to ourselves our first instinct is to do something, anything, pull out our phone, scroll through instagram.
Presence is being in the moment.
When you're walking savoring the sights and sounds around you.
When you eat, tasting every flavour as it enters your lips.
When you're commuting on a train, observing people, the train, the incredible technology around you.
We're almost always thinking about where we've just come from or where we're going to next that the present which is all we truly have passes us by.
The future and past exist only in our minds, we only truly have now, the present, yet we so seldomn observe and embrace it.
Sure we need to pay some attention to past and future to learn lessons and direct our lives. But for the moments we do have it's beautiful to simply be lost in it. When you embrace each and every moment and not just the significant ones it's fascinating to see how much joy you derive from it.

If you're not a great reader, get an audiobook, start taking notes learn shit, apply some to your life.
Memeandmesomemore 6y ago
This is also known as Mindfulness - and it is incredibly liberating. I've always thought of things like this as being fluffy brained new age thinking (especially being an engineer myself), but Mindfulness is incredible, it really can transform your life - especially if you couple it with some CBT to modify your thinking like the free course at "living life to the full"

GuruDev1000 6y ago
I'm sure you meant 'wander'. World of a difference in meaning.
TRPDigesting 6y ago
Right, OP is definitely right that putting the phone away will ALLOW you to be more connected.
But that's also kind of what psychedelics do anyway. My first shroom trip was the first time that I truly realized I was connected to everybody and the world around me...and it was a realization that lasted.
Psychedelics give you high suggestibility to change your axioms (for good or for worse, I might add). Use them highly responsibly...
OP probably had a profound spiritual experience in being disconnected from his phone during that time, so it's likely to play a big factor in his proper life now.
[deleted] 6y ago
I feel fortunate to have grown up without the distraction of cell phones. I tripped on shrooms and acid a few times back then, too.
I do struggle with being present now at times, but I fear it would be all that much worse if I had had a smartphone at 14.
frusciante7 6y ago
I'm struggling with this a lot. Can't live in the now. Always have music playing in the background, always watching a video while eating, constantly fearing boredom. Never do I live in the moment.

Look up Gateways to Now on Spotify, very good to get into it. If you like it read the books, they are filled with knowledge. Just reading them pushed me into the now.
KeffirLime 6y ago
For me it’s been meditation. To be present one needs to learn how to quiten their mind.
This way you learn not to just follow your thoughts as they arise but to Recognize them when they do.
Without thoughts running wild in your mind and you following them, you are able to be fully present and experience life as it happens.
Ambilicous 6y ago
Meditation is working wonders for me as well. I'd add that decreasing big dopamine rushes (gaming, social media, fapping, tv,...) makes you more receptible to the small dopamine rush you get from social interactions, learning, reading, etc..., which in return makes you better at those activities and more charismatic in general (For more on that read The charisma myth).
So when your cutting cheap dopamine out of your life you're better focused and improving your overall awareness.

I'm lucky because for a big part of my 20s nobody even had an email address. The "players" had pagers ffs.
Social Media is mostly cancer. I swear people do things now mostly so they can post about it, instead of just enjoying what they are doing.
I don't give a flying fuck what you had for lunch or want to see another female affirmation meme. I'm probably not alone on that.
apatel215 6y ago
Dude, I had a very similar realization after doing shrooms a couple months ago. I made it a point to not have my phone on me during the trip and although my overall trip wasn't the most pleasant, being disconnected from everything on my phone felt great. Since then I have deleted my instagram, deleted facebook awhile ago, and only reason i have twitter is cuz it entertains me but even then i know its coming to an end. I definitely feel these effects of no social media and its nice and refreshing. Its like you feel human again.
goriladevainilla 6y ago
I have done this for 2 years now. I even got a phone that would only call and text for a little. Only reason I have a smart phone now is work.
misterrbro 6y ago
And well... The Red Pill is about some sort of unplugging after all.
-Fidelio- 6y ago
I enjoyed the book, but be careful: it was written by someone who had a financial interest in people coming out with certain economic conclusions, mainly that we have managed to mathematically defend against risk in unprecedented levels, through hedge funds among other things. In the years since these have lost their glorious former reputation through a series of crashes that were not adequately risk-managed.
On the topic of smartphones.... Getting rid of my smart phone for 95% of the time was one of the best decisions I made this year.
xddnax 6y ago
After unplugging, youll realise how pathetic people look with their phones, filming concerts or parties they will never rewatch, instead of, you know, actually enjoying the party, concerts, etc.
The cringiest thing ive witnessed personally, was on a river trip. So we climbed a pretty high cliff(like 100m or so) , with an epic view across the valley, and there was a girl, who sat on the edge of the cliff, asked to take a picture of her, as if she was meditating, and after a picture went to share it on Instagram or smth. Not even a single glance at the nature was given.

No where in the post did I advise TRP to take Acid.
[deleted]
Companyinternational 6y ago
Well that's true. But seeing how you weren't sure if the acid was the reason or not that kind of comes across as an endorsement if not straight out advice..... just my 2c. Didnt mean to be preachy.
NorthEasternNomad 6y ago
Been thinking a lot about this lately. I've got a job with tons of downtime.
But that changes on 8/27. Got a promotion - after crushing the interview - to the tune of $8k/yr increase.
But these guys are busy. Non stop all day. From small issues to big ones, to projects, builds, testing...Server team for a big healthcare provider is no joke, all-go all day action.
And this is going to require two things: focus (in the moment), and attention (throughout the day). Both of which will be much easier, if my phone isnt competing.
I think I'm going to take this advice. I've long since deleted Facebook. But I think its ti e for everything not professionally valuable to come off the phone. To get back to the world in front of me.
Thanks for a quality reminder.

bobaisdope 6y ago
Hands down one of the best posts on social media on this subreddit. I myself also decided to turn off my Instagram for a while, a hiatus. It seems that I care too much about people's lives, and to be honest most of them are fucking boring, I care too much about the ex-girlfriends or my oneitis (fuck this I almost get rid of this shit). But I think we can leverage social media as a tool which you can use to promote your works or your SMV. Moderation is the word, I decide that I'll come back to this shit but only when I already learn how to control it, for example: Posting your travel pics on Instagram story, or showing off your lifestyle but after that just turn the fucking phone off, leave it for 2-3 days and turn it on again to read notifications or reply DMs work-related.

ceqozesah 6y ago
When you have amazing trips like this its best not to trip too soon again so enjoy this headspace and current frame of mind . Wait a few months and build up ontop with a new foundation
[deleted] 6y ago
Better pick a light read so you can keep it in your prison pocket.
All jokes aside, great post. I feel like you're hyperfocusing on phones, but the point comes across well. People will come up with any excuse to procrastinate. Phones are simply our generations way of condensing our procrastination into a single, efficient device.
It's your duty as someone who wants to improve to take time you'd normally waste (on your phone, computer, TV, etc) and use it for more improvement. Replace TV with lectures, phones with books, and use computers to learn skills/work.
Your time is the most valuable resource, so spend it on things that will either give you more time (exercise and mental stimulation), or make your remaining time more meaningful (develop relationships, have genuine, non-procrastinatory fun).
Angelsoft717 6y ago
It was probably the acid trip dude.
The day after my first acid trip I literally laid in bed and just thought. Thought about life and everything. Normally when I do that it's a depressive episode, but that time it was different. I was in a state that I haven't been in since of just existing and being happy with it. I was almost as happy as I was on the acid tbh.
That being said, social media is set up to make you hate yourself. We as humans have never had this hyper connectivity. You're comparing yourself to friends, rivals, and people you've never met. I can't remember where I seen it but getting a like on Facebook gives you a little dose of serotonin. You're being acknowledged by someone and that's what all humans want. Of course this means when you don't get this acknowledgement you're depressed and anxious. I've been trying to wean myself off Facebook for the longest but it's an addiction man.
BlackBurton 6y ago
Just throwing that out there. I suggest you read the power of now and you meditate and do yoga frequently to keep these feelings because the aftermath of the acid will eventually fade into memory but you want implement what you learned into a practice.
priestfrommiddleeast 6y ago

It’s the acid bro. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard people say how life changing it is. It really makes me want to try it. Your post reminded me of that and makes me want to try it just once to, perhaps, turn my life around.
VomarV 6y ago
Be careful what you ask for. You take one tab and before you know it you think doing acid repeatedly is going to open the secrets to life. It won't. Acid does open your mind to new thoughts depending the state you're in, but you can do meditation instead or some natural form to get a new outlook on life.
Blaze_Bless 6y ago

Trust me Shrooms, acid and dmt has changed my life. It’s something I tell everyone they should try at least once. Start with shrooms then work up to dmt. acid for me is more of a party drug but I’ve never done it in nature so I can’t speak on it but shrooms and dmt was life changing.

Rabbit-Punch 6y ago

[deleted]
omega_fat 6y ago
It won't. All acid does is amplify whatever thoughts and feelings you have 100 times. What you get is shower thoughts feeling really fucking important. And funnily enough I've never heard of an acid trip that made people think "get rich or die trying" or "become powerful by whatever means possible" or "might is right" Never something that Nietsche would say, always something that The Big Lebowski would say.
Be very careful not to take the amplified mental diarrhoea for gospel.
Nocryingok 6y ago
Good way to explain acid. And "The Big Lebowski" is the old fake cripple character. I suppose you are referring to "The Dude"
maroonblood94 6y ago
This. I used to trip acid frequently. Thought I was so enlightened and above what I considered the “petty bullshit” of the rest of the world. In reality, I was just a lazy piece of shit with a drinking problem and LSD gave me the illusion of self-improvement by “opening my eyes”. It made me very hypercritical as well as disconnected from other people. I think many people who claim it changes their lives tend to overestimate the benefits. I’m not saying it doesn’t have any positive uses (there are studies that demonstrate they do) but i think people rarely use psychedelics appropriately these days. Psychedelics were revered and respected by ancient cultures. They didn’t take them just to “trip” or get fucked up.

Acid is a tool, albeit an extreme one, that help you further towards your goals when you trip with purpose.
Example: during my first trip, I imagined nodes in a neural network, visualized completely, just by looking at a leaf.
It also graces you with humility as a human with regards to nature. Nature has it all figured out, when we're still trying to fiend for purpose. sometimes it's good to deflate your ego and realize you are just a piece of dust that's breathing thanks to nature.
TRP teaches us this with inner peace by meditating, and so an acid trip can be on the borderline of "meditation", although it's a slippery slope to a bad trip, especially when you trip for just shits and giggles.
But yes, most of your thoughts on acid is mental diarrhea. You gotta filter out the 5-10% of those great thoughts and amplify them during and after your trip.

Sitting down with a physical paper helped me eliminate the constant news streams I was ingesting. It is meditation like flipping through a physical paper and not the app on my phone... Old school and yes you have a bunch of newspapers to throw away but a worthwhile price.
One of the old school things that still has it’s value.

So you took acid and started to see things 'differently'?

For this post: just my phone. There's a lot more content but none of them belongs in this subreddit

It had to be said explicitly and glad you did.
The vacation part is so true, people go on vacation for the pics instead of the memories.
Although going cold turnkey doesn't work for everyone. I run pages on both Facebook and Instagram, and tend to lose focus and start looking for girls, knives, guns etc. However I am doing that consciously now, and I dont feel the same guilt I used to do earlier.
I keep uninstalling social media apps again and again and that works for me.
Thanks OP

I believe you are totally right. We are no longer human with these machines that turn us into mere, well ... machines. I will take your advice and see how it works. Thank you.

I did LSD a few times as a young teenager. I took about 7 hits, I dropped a few, put them back in the bag, and rubbed my face with my hands lol. Needless to say I wound up at the hospital overdosing because my 15 year old body couldn't handle the amount of LSD I consumed. I had a horrible, horrible trip. I also have PTSD from that experience. I'd never do it again. Also when you're tripping absolute ball sacks, there's no way you're going to even know what a phone is. You don't eat, or drink water. You're just tripping along. Funniest thing ever said to me while I was tripping, I bumped into my friend on accident t and he looked at me and said "hey man, watch where you're tripping." I laughed for what seemed an eternity.

I had the same epiphany on an alleged shroom trip. I was staring at my phone, trying to respond to a text, when I realized how pointless and stupid that was. Then I set my phone down and proceeded to experience the awesomeness of living in the moment.

Not judging, but in some cases people are trading one drug for another.
IrishGoodbye4 6y ago
I hear ya, but I’ve only tripped once. Allegedly.
Mgtowmillion 6y ago
We are always trading one neurotransmitter for another. At least choose wisely
EmotionalProblem 6y ago
It’s super foolish if you don’t know what mushroom you’re eating, edible or psychedelic.
IrishGoodbye4 6y ago
It can also be super eye opening. Might just change the way you see the world in a positive way.
EmotionalProblem 6y ago
It also might kill you. Taking shrooms does not mean scoffing down whatever mushroom you find
Blaze_Bless 6y ago
Right but taking shrooms that are psychedelic have some very positive neurological benefits :) just know what you are consuming, be smart, and expand your mind, some people will be stupid about safety with psychoactive substances and lots will be smart
EmotionalProblem 6y ago
I agree immensely, everyone should know how to identify shrooms if they are picking though which was my main point. A spore print is also largely recommended due to the fact that many have deadly lookalikes but different spore prints. Just please... make sure you know what you’re eating.

You can do #1 and #2 with self control and discipline. Practice this and you’ll be above the rest. I have my phone on at all times but I don’t use it unless I’m jotting down notes for my next business idea, or writing in my journal. I don’t have text conversations anymore, and my voicemail is disabled.
