I still listen to rap, hard rock and electronic occasionally but I am trying to decrease that as well. I feel music is like porn, to a certain extent. Terrible genres like pop, country etc are plain bad but even the better genres like rap and hard rock, although RP to a huge extent, are still bad. It makes you feel like you're the rapper or you're the rock star doing all those awesome things, feeling all those awesome feeling they feel but in reality you're just sitting like a brick with headphones plugged into your ears while browsing reddit and chatting with people.

Have you ever cried during a movie or videogame? Maybe it was a book, or a song. Maybe you didn't cry. Maybe you got angry, or really happy, or felt pumped up. Sometimes you hear a song where the singer is bragging about their success and you almost feel like you're the one singing it, like you're on stage in front of a crowd. And then you turn on the sink and brush your teeth. I've decided to describe this sort of content as porn. Now, I know this isn't a unique thing. Plenty of people use porn inappropriately. Rage porn. Gore porn. Earth porn?. Yes, Earth porn. And I'll admit, it is a little unfair. The word "porn" has a negative connotation in our culture. Using it to describe something immediately implies that that thing is bad, seedy, maybe even fetishistic. And yes, that is what I'm implying.

What I'm implying it about is the pointless content we suck up all the time. The articles we read and documentaries we watch, designed to get us pissed off. The blog posts and autobiographies we read, designed to make us feel like winners. The love songs we hear and poems we read, designed to make us feel heartbroken. They're all quite bad for you, or at least in the doses you're consuming them. And if you want to get control over your life, you need to stop. Why are they bad?

Because they allow you to experience certain important aspects of life by proxy. Look at straight up pornography. It's not about observing two people having sex. It's about imagining what it's like to be one of the people having the sex. You want to be with an attractive and ravenous person right now, but you can't, so you watch someone else do it. And you enjoy not how good the sex is, but how good the sex must be.

I cannot stress that part enough. It's the sex by proxy that you love so much. And non-sex porn is the same. You read a feel-good story about a guy who climbs his way up from being homeless to being a millionaire, and you enjoy it because you want to feel like that. You want to feel that "I DID IT!!" moment. Like with sex-porn, you're focused on how good it must feel to be successful, because right now you can't experience how good it actually is to be successful.

That's dangerous. The urge to have sex at times when you cannot is very important. It makes you do things like buy new clothes, shave, take showers, and get haircuts. It makes you wonder what that other person thinks of you when you walk in the room. If that urge for sex was satisfied every time it came up, your participation in the mindless human mating dance would end, and so would your chances of real sex. Oops. Too much sex by proxy reduces real sex.

The same happens with success. You keep watching goddamn episodes of Shark Tank and reading the Steve Jobs biography and seeing blog posts about successful people being successful, and that scratches your itch every time you think "I'm so fucking tired of the way my life is right now." Your "I'm gonna do something about this!!!!" urge goes away, because it's satisfied by a blog post by Tim Ferriss about a guy who made a million dollars selling ear plugs (I'm only kinda kidding).

The author then goes on to talk about moderation and how everything is okay in moderation. But that's where I disagree with him.

Hence, I'm trying to get rid of listening music out of my life as much as possible. It's hard considering I was a wanna-be guitarist/rockstar and a music addict in the past but I'm trying.

I wouldn't say it has RUINED it for me but I definitely get annoyed at the lyrics to some songs especially if the music isn't good. If the song is catchy enough I'll usually put up with it, but yeah a lot of the Blue Pill lyrics just fuelled my original Blue Pill outlook on life. Kept me believing in 'the right one'

No. Sometimes music can be a form of escape and enjoyment. If I want to escape to a fantasy land where I am reminded of the love I have towards my unicorn when I hear a song, I am able to experience that. That does not mean I carry these feelings over into the real world. I don't label feelings "alpha" or "beta". Feelings are neither. Actions are what count. If you're analyzing which things are "beta" and "alpha", you're just following dogma, not your own compass in life.

I'm a musician and I've been singing these blue pill songs for years. Once I turned red I found it hard to relate to all the songs I was singing. I'm now able to focus on the emotions the singers are feeling now and not so much the reasons.

I find songs that are red way more enjoyable. I suggest you all listen to "The Weeknd". He's red as fuck.

Yes and no. I'm mainly interested in the "music" and not the lyrics, but even the lyrics take place in a fantasy scenario where the artist gets to share their emotions in an exaggerated state. In some cases, songs going to absurd levels of weakness can help you realize how you may relate to that weakness to a lesser degree and improve your life.

One of my favorite bands is Muse -- featured on the Twilight movies, have songs about failed relationships and oppressive governments. Even their most aggressive songs are still passive in many ways, but it's great music. The song "Citizen Erased" is really one long prog-rock whine, but it's one of my favorite songs of all time.

As others have said, sure, love songs are kind of ruined for me but most dudes don't listen to many of them anyway.

TV, music, movies, magazine stories... All of it has changed.

Now when I see a joke on a TV sitcom or movie all I can think about is the way it demasculates men. Its so rampart in today's society too. Everybody Loves Raymond is a goldmine on how a man should not act or be treated in a relationship (he is verbally, emotionally, and physically abused by his wife Deborah) and yet it is comedy to watch a man be pushed into a book shelf and laughed at.

As a guy in my mid-50s I'm a big classic rock fan (early 70s to late 80s). I never listened to the lyrics too closely; it's the music itself I like, but the words do enter one's consciousness to some degree. That very thought hit me a while back-- mellow stuff in particular is all a bunch of sugary, blue pill slurpy beta-ness. Even the harder stuff is mostly blue pill. I was not aware of it, but I imagine it had an effect on my blue pill mindset, figuring that's the way the world worked, and thus, the way I should act.

Most of the music I listen to is pretty Red Pill. The lyrics either are about plating, Red Pill relationships, or have nothing to do with women at all. Very little of it makes me cringe because of the singer is being a blue-pill beta with severe oneitis.

The band for me was Protest the Hero. They have undeniable musicianship, but their lyrical content is what I started to question since seeing the red. Their first album was "Kezia". It is a concept album about a girl named Kezia who is oppressed from men. The album has a strong pro-feminist theme throughout. Continuing on that path, their next album "Fortress" is about goddess worship. Their latest albums "Scurrilous" and "Volition" have undertaken a more personal platform since Rody Walker started writing the lyrics. Mainly everything I listen to is pre 90's Rock, Metal, and Punk. Really no issues here.

Certain bands and songs I don't like because they sound too whiney about losing your oneitis and shit like that. Then again, lots of other songs aren't about losing your balls and I still like that kind of stuff.

I've grown to have a overall fonder appreciation for rap music, though.

Yes and no for me. I grew up around the emo/pop punk scene and my god it is an easily offended and feminist minded genre. However, tons of really solid bands are on the come up and I enjoy them if not for nostalgia purposes. Lots of coming of age material coming out that I relate to at times.

Other than that I love hip hop so I'm not terribly devasted either.

Yes, it definitely has. I dont relate to love songs or atleast dont like hearing them. Songs about personal struggle, I still relate to because as a man youre problems are yours and yours alone. Music is my 'orbiter' that keeps me strong.

Check out the Cribs. Ryan Jarman (guitarist+vocals) has gone full monk mode after losing plenty of friends and family to his illness. Gary (bass+vocals) his identical twin is pissed off BP at the denial anger stage. Their little brother Ross on the drums is a badass and you can tell he is a player. It's interesting to hear the lyrics change from angst to anger to desperation then acceptance as they released albums since 2001.

Probably one of the most underappreciated bands in the UK right now. If you like The Pixies, 60' garage rock sound, alt. Rock they are a superb band to get into. They single handedly invented the style of mid-fi rock. Check em out.

Jarman is mocking the excuses women make up to use in order to dump men, that they've only gone for in the first place because they're in a bad state and are effectively using them.

No, TRP has actually made me think more about the lyrics and understand the drive behind them a bit better. Listen to David Guetta (feat Nicky Minaj) hey Mama. Some great red pill stuff there like Captain - first mate relationship, her respecting him, him being the boss, her doing the cleaning, the cooking and giving it up to him when ever he needs it. The best is at the end when she sings about being on her knees to please him to be a lady and a freak.

You might like rap music more. They are brutally honest about women, and their intentions for them.
