I want to touch on the issue of self improvement through a tough experience today.Today, i was able to save the life of another human being that was choking.
Lets begin,
This morning I was at work with my co-workers. It was a night shift. Anyway, one thing is that ever since i swallowed that pill, i have focused a bit more on self improvement and situation awareness for myself. i constantly observe, rationalize then act accordingly.
Now at our place of work, we are all mandated to take CPR and First Aid courses by default. Thing is, people just view this as a minor inconvenience and stepping stone to the job. Some people actually pay for paper versions of these courses. I paid attention and asked questions.
Incident. We were kinda winding down the job and some drinking coffee. Now there is this one guy that was eating a sandwich dry with no liquids. Now we were all there. The guy I will call Tim, started drooling and tears rolling down his eyes. He was not saying anything and some co workers there started laughing at him and his drooling. I looked in his eyes and realized that ..shit, this guy is choking.
Now if you take lifesaving classes you will quickly learn that a drowning person does not drown like in the movies where they say"help, help! am drowning..!! A person will drown right next to you and you will not realize it unless you know what to look for. They struggle but it is mostly underwater as they cannot keep their body above water. So the surface will have minimal splashing. That is why people drown in a pool full of people and you do not know it.
I refer to this because it was the same thing. I quickly took charge and directed to my coworker "Call 911.. Tim is choking..!!" As i went behind Tim and started performing Heimlich; a procedure we all are supposed to be trained in, i noticed, everyone there just stared. No one was moving. I yelled at the top of my voice..."Call 911.." to my coworker, he did not move.
Heimlich not working, Tim has lost consciousness and goes limp. I put him on the ground. Check for breathing.. gone!! No breathing, his eyes roll back into his head.
I ran to the phone, called 911, shaking, scared.. but decisive. Informed them my address, that someone was choking and i needed to go back and perform CPR. I swear no one had done anything. Tim's mouth was frothing with foam and mucus. He was unconscious. I started CPR. I will be honest, everything was like a blur. I counted compression's aloud and gave 2 rescue breaths among-st that mucus and froth. I could not believe there were 4 other people in the room doing absolutely nothing.
As i continued, CPR, one guy actually had the nerve to tell me.. You are doing it too hard you will hurt him. I mean am sorry for trying to save his life so that he can live to be hurt.
The unexpected then happened. As i made compressions the piece of bread stuck in his throat came out and he gagged and coughed. i put my finger in his mouth and removed it. A fucking lump of bread.
Tim started breathing on his own and i put him in recovery position. Paramedics got there and took over taking him to hospital. They asked me to come with them to walk and talk. One of them told that it is rare to see someone take charge and it does not happen as often as you might think because of the Bystander Effect.
Beta me would probably have stood there with the other guys freaking about what to do. It came second nature to me. I had made it a point to change my life and did not wait for someone else to take the lead.
Tim is fine now.
Lesson's learnt
-
TRP is not a jutsu that will turn you into Chad that bang the chics. It is a way of life that stresses on self improvement. Yes, you will turn into Chad that bangs the chics but that is and should never be the focal point of TRP.
- learn some basic to intermediate life skills and mentally prepare yourself to use them, I know that in Germany CPR and First Aid are mandatory for all drivers. learn how to camp, swim, lift, basic medical skills, CPR,First Aid, Burns, Electric shock and wound care, learn a language, a skill set, how to make a fire, disaster preparedness, What to do in case of medical emergencies such as heart attacks, strokes, diabetic emergencies, What to do in case of a snake bite, emergency food and supplies awareness..etc And teach them to your kids. You never know when in life you might need these skills, how handy they will become and how they could mean the difference between life and death.
Step outside of your former comfort zones and learn something new.

pilledwillingly 10y ago
The biggest compliment I've ever received in my life was when a paramedic burst through the door, took one look at me while I was doing compressions, nodded, and ran back outside to get his defib gear.
"We saw that you guys were electrical workers from the trucks outside, and probably trained in first aid, but one look at you guys doing CPR, we knew we were better off setting up our machines."
The guy was old and fat and ended up passing away, mainly because his wife was in the shower when he had a heart attack and it could have been half an hour before she realized, and came out the front to grab us. We were like a military unit. The guy was huge and took 4 of us to get him on the floor But it was a valuable experience, I think if it was a toddler or someone I knew, I might have panicked, but having done it once on an old guy without any hesitation or second guessing has made me prepared for the next time.
Get first aid training. Book it now or deal with 'what if's for the rest of your life.

Yes don't do CPR with chocking patients. But in the end who cares if he lives! You literally saved someone from dying that is an incredible accomplishment. Observing, recognizing and acting needs so much courage and you had it. CPR breaks rips all the time (even 100% with older people) and sometimes the sternum. I worked as paramedic and It's almost like if you do not break one you do it wrong. Also congratulations ... I haven't raged that hard in the last few days. I am not gonna start a big rant about your coworkers etc. many others already did.
I have a few questions: How did this incident change your work environment and your relationship towards your coworkers, how did Tim thank you and what happened right after the incident?
Important chocking advice: There are some incidents where you CAN give strong rescue breaths even with chocking patients, but it is a high risk. Imagine your kid swallowed a toy ball and you can't get it out. Not with Heimlich, not with slapping his back, not with taking his legs and shake him upside down. Another possibility to give the kid breathing room is pushing the ball further down into one bronchus so that the other one is free and it can breath at least a bit.
babybopp 10y ago
i concentrated more on the chest compressions. I did two rescue breaths. i then just stuck with the compressions. The work environment is a little weird now everyone keeps doing everything overboard. I think it is kind of an over compensation for their inaction. Everyone has a look at me what i just did attitude. Actually work has been very productive. Tim later told me he likes rolling bread into little balls and swallowing them. he has been doing this since he was a kid. his mother was more grateful. Got to take the weekend off. Am guessing management will come up with more unnecessary training stuff for us to do

It's absolutely astounding how many people are too stupid and self absorbed to be conscious during a crisis.
I was in a situation like that once where a person passed out from dehydration. One was a fuckinh nurse, and the other two were a married couple. One of them wanted to literally, and I am not making this up, call his mom because he was scared. A grown fuckin man actually said that to me. Had I not been trying to help someone in dire need, I may have kicked him out of the house and told him to never speak to me again. When I told his wife to call an ambulance, she literally ran around the house looking for a got damn phone book. I am not making this up. I screamed DIAL FUCKING 911!
The nurse just took the persons pulse and said "yeah her heart rate is low." Uh no fucking shit you dumb waste.
Never been so disgusted in my life.
It is shocking how many people on earth bring almost nothing to the table for the rest of society. It's scary, and sad, and downright sickening at the same time. The folks with brains and drive have to literally carry everyone else so they don't fuck everything up by doing something stupid.
It should not be this hard for people to do what is expected in life. How in God's name did it get this way?
marriedrpguy 10y ago
Up voted because awesome. Had the same thing happen with bystanders once in a subway car when a guy had a seizure and I was the only one bothered to help and trigger the alarm.
In fact, one woman even got mad because I delayed the train. People suck.
Sir_Distic 10y ago
Good on you OP. You might not feel like you did anything besides what you felt was right what you did was act as a hero. There's a reason that word means something.
As for others blaming the othera for standing there. They were in shock and disbelief. It feels like a dream. You just stand there in shock.
vzhu 10y ago
Good on you. They're currently looking at transitioning to chest and back thrusts for choking now. Heimlich should still be fine.
TheOboeMan 10y ago
I can't believe these idiots stood around and did nothing after you told them to call 911 twice. Morons.
tyrryt 10y ago
They might be morons, but this reaction is common to all people - they had never been in that situation, hadn't trained for it, didn't anticipate it, and the shock paralyzed them. No doubt they would've tried to help if they had time to reflect and think about it.
This is why the military drills the same tasks over and over and over, until they become automatic reflexes - in a panic situation you have to act first and think later.
Kudos to OP, great job.
[deleted] 10y ago
I can't believe he left him to do it. Use the persons name... They often freeze until you name them specifically. Never leave someone until you've been relieved
Plus, no one wants to be known as that guy who didn't dial when he dies, everyone will blame him
niczar 10y ago
That's also a consequence of the Bystander Effect. You need to point at someone in particular, not at a group of people. Point at the closest person. Everyone will help.
That also works for dangerous situations. If you are ever attacked in a train for example, don't just yell for help, look at the closest person, even if it's a little old lady and ask her to help you. It's not her help you want, it's the other people who will understand that you need help immediately, instead of being confused by the lack of reaction of other people.
This has been documented in several soc. psy. experiments.
john1443 10y ago
In my country, you have the obligation to help when someone's life is in danger. However, even if you are supposed to know, e.g. CPR, it is defensible that you didn't act, because you were scared, didn't know how to do it in the shock of the moment etc. What is not defensible is not calling (the equivalent of) 911. That's just the law and it's not very redpill to argue solely based on the law. However, it goes to show that even if you have no clue how to do something in particular, there is always something you can do to get it done. It's really pathetic to basically let someone die because you couldn't call 911.
[deleted] 10y ago
Its actually super common. Everyone assumes someone else will do it.
Kid_Crimson 10y ago
Kudos to Op! Similar thing happened to me years ago when a neighbor's house caught fire in the middle of the night. I jumped into action with a garden hose but had to briefly stop and literally scream at the other neighbor to call 911 as he stood there mouth agape looking at the fire spread.
suchhound 10y ago
It's a common occurrence
If you want someone to help in a crisis
you point directly at them, look them in the eyes and yell:
"YOU , you call 911"
This is also taught in cpr classes
babybopp 10y ago
it was the weirdest thing ever. they stood there rooted to the ground afraid to take any action. Those guys always act tough.
Overzealous_BlackGuy 10y ago
Just for future reference point to one specific person and tell him to call 911. People live their lifes always expecting someone else to be the hero. In all my. Cpr courses i was told its way more effective to call someone out. And make it there job. You should not have had to leave the area to call yourself.
ChiefBigLeaf 10y ago
I saw a LPT once that said something along the lines of in an emergency don't just yell out "Somebody call 911", it is much more effective to just pick someone, anyone, look them straight in the eye and say "You, call 911".
Bystander effect is real, if you don't choose someone and just yell out the generic someone call for help everyone will expect someone else to do it.
[deleted] 10y ago
it's not like you were asking them to do something complicated either. i know shock is a thing but that's pathetic and no excuse once someone like yourself clearly takes control of the situation and delegates a simple task
you must feel like a beast. good for you man
Dark-Ulfberht 10y ago
Yep.
I once had to use the Heimlich to dislodge a piece of food from a lady in a restaurant. No one did shit to help her for a solid 60 seconds while it was clear she was choking; I came from all the way across the restaurant to get to her.
Her husband watched the whole thing, looking dumbstruck the whole time.
Most humans are useless.
Redsqa 10y ago
That reminds me.
My great grand mother died at 84 from choking on food, at a restaurant with my great grand father, celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary.
Nobody in the restaurant did anything (I think my great grand father tried hitting on her back, but that's it... he was 90 year old though. Other people just stood there and watched). She was long dead when the paramedics arrived.
Mortimax 10y ago
Like you said.m. bystander effect. The trick is to designate one persone to do it otherwise no one will take the initiative.
"Brad, call 911 to send help here and come back to tell me when they will get here."
Debauchery_Tea_Party 10y ago
Yes, this is crucial. I'm Australian, and a member of one of numerous Surf Life-Saving clubs we have dotted around the coast. Designating a specific individual to call emergency services, in our case, triple-0, is one of the first things they teach you when you practice resuscitation. It helps take out the need for someone to make themselves responsible within a group. Half of the people are paralysed because they have no training and are in shock. The other half are paralysed because they have to take responsibility for calling emergency services voluntarily, and that scares them.
At a tangent to this, I highly recommend such an activity. It's voluntary, and to be a patrolling club member I need to be qualified for first aid etc. Through the club I'm part of, I've also done several other resuscitation and spinal-injury courses. I joined when I was 16, and am about to finish Year Twelve, at eighteen, and being a surf life saver has been a great tool to set me apart from the other 18 year old job seekers when I've been looking around for part time work. I have first aid, I have a voluntary public service activity, I've had some training for how to handle stressful events and deal with the public. I'm surrounded by a group of individuals who are all active, genuine people, and there are numerous competitions I can participate in within the club, there's a gym, there's a community. I can walk into surf clubs all over Australia and have an instant 'family'. I highly recommend it.
cocaine_face 10y ago
Upvoting this. I learned this years ago, and have tested it and designating someone is definitely the best way to get something done, otherwise nobody wants to take responsibility.
[deleted] 10y ago
Big advice right here. Do this if you suspect you (or someone else) is having a heart attack or other emergency. Designate someone.
Redasshole 10y ago
LOL.
Same thing happened to me (more or less) but I was with women.
I said calmly but with strength "Jane, go call 911". Next thing you know, they were throwing the ball at each other "you do it" "no, you do it", "no YOU do it".
Fucking unbelievable how they can not take charge even to make a simple phone call to save a fucking life. Unbelievable and disgusting.
Blerks 10y ago
Absolutely right. The "and report back to me" is also crucial because it makes them feel like you're more likely to notice if they don't do it.
[deleted]
mugatucrazypills 10y ago
standard part of the lifesaving training, surprised they didn't include it in OPs training.
VasiliyZaitzev 10y ago
Real CPR is likely to break ribs. It ain't like you see on TV.
theHangedGod 10y ago
Good on you man. You decided to man up and build good frame and composure, and you saved a life because of that.
You saved a life!
This is exactly why everyone (especially helpless women) is attracted to the alpha.
sirmadam 10y ago
I was directly behind a lorry that tipped over at a roundabout. I stopped, donned a hi vis jacket and directed traffic around the incident because everyone stopped. Then called emergency services and by the time I got to the front of the lorry there were 12 people there arguing over who should call 999. People go to shit and usually nobody stands up to do the right thing.
[deleted] 10y ago
Why the fuck are you giving cpr to someone with a blocked airway. You are an idiot, good job on saving him though. You can't blow air into a blocked airway and his heart was probably still beating, you should have stuck your hand down his throat and just pulled it out. You could have broken his rib for nothing.
Source: Was a lifeguard for 7 years
frozen_strawberry 10y ago
Plus when heimlich didn't work and the guy was passing out he should have bent the guy over and slapped his upper back with some force. That way he would have utilized gravity and dislodging the piece of bread would have been a lot more likely.
Or technically, that should have been the first thing he did because heimlich performed incorrectly or with too much force can do a whole bunch of damage.
[deleted] 10y ago
[deleted]
Dr_Acu1a 10y ago
I don't think you understand where the airway is blocked. Aspiration occurs below the epiglottis, which is distal airway. Breathing in the nose and mouth would do the same thing.
CashFrags 10y ago
Great story, I had a similar experience with a girl who got hit n run'd. Her leg was all bloodied up and she was in serious pain.
I jumped into action really not knowing shit just that i needed to stop her from losing so much blood, I asked outloud for someone to give me theit t-shirt.
Everyone just stood around, i had to almost tear some dudes shirt off because he was in shock.
Wrapped it as best as I could and when the ambulance came the paramedic shook my hand tols me I probably saved her life.
Was a crazy experience and i sont recall really manually thinking about what i was doing, I just saw someone bleeding knew I needed to stop or at least slow the bleeding and my sub-concious figured out the rest.
Good advice, thanks for sharing.
pdtrading 10y ago
Truly inspiring and beautiful story. Its a position of power that most people can never experience, saving someones life! Congrats from another trp bretherin!

Props, brother!! I'll have a beer or three in your honour tonight.

I'm proud of what you did there mate and I think most of RP community would agree. Who wouldn't agree? The bitches that would stand there and watch.
ferengiprophet 10y ago
You're a good man for helping this guy out but in this litigation-heavy society, you have to be careful about helping others lest they come back around to sue you.
MentORPHEUS Senior Endorsed 10y ago
From childhood, I've always been the one person in groups to take action in emergencies while everyone else just stood there and stared impotently. Good for you, Sir.
Whats really a shame is, time spent running yourself to call 911 was time needed to work on clearing his airway. I'm hoping he didn't suffer any brain damage due to the inaction of your frozen colleagues.
Really good advice you gave, to study up on various emergency skills.
WhiteKnightFgt 10y ago
Thank god, good on you man. I hope you punched your co-worker squarely in the nose.
Zagiggity 10y ago
Have had to perform CPR twice, neither patient made it but the classes are very serious and are nothing to make light of. The first time I felt a rib pop it finally sunk in the gravity of the situation and CPR itself. Congratulations on doing what you were taught and leading a potentially deadly recovery.
herknav 10y ago
Same here (once). Tragic/traumatic, but there's still a bit of solemn pride in having been the one to act. Will try to never let my cert expire, and recommend the course to anyone who has the opportunity.
IIRC, Good Samaritan laws can vary dramatically from state to state. Encourage everyone to take a moment and check theirs!
Lt_Muffintoes 10y ago
What fucking morons. I would be tempted to fire/demote them if I was manager.
It would be interesting to remind them of what happened and see how they try and wriggle out of it

It's always fun and games until someone chokes on a sandwich.
Good job, OP.
Polaris382 10y ago
Good job man. The only bad thing with CPR "certifications" is that you can quickly forget that shit, obviously you didnt and good on you.
I would have to get that certification in the Navy and go through a whole simulation/pass a test and the like. I would very quickly forget all of it afterwards.
babybopp 10y ago
yes and i realized later.. nowadays the upgraded rules say that you should just perform compression's.. no rescue breaths. i was nervous in a state of adrenaline rush. i actually doubted myself for a few seconds there.
modex20 10y ago
Don't perform rescue breathing on a choking victim that still has his airway obstructed. You're just blowing into a blocked windpipe and might lodge the food in more. You can continue the Heimlich on an unconscious victim by laying them on their back, straddling them, and pushing in and up (same spot just above navel) with the heels of your palms. If that doesn't work you sweep the throat by grabbing the tongue and lower jaw with one hand and pulling it forward, then sweeping with the fingers of the other hand.
MattyAnon Admin 10y ago
It is better to tell a specific person to call the emergency services. Then they are compelled to act. Avoiding bystander effect.
After that, you ask a different person to also call emergency services (in case person 1 fucked it up).
Part of this situation involves leading the sheep, and that means being very specific rather than asking "everyone" to help. They've all turned to stone because they are waiting for someone (you in this case) to tell them what to do.
CowardlyPetrov 10y ago
I think there is no such thing as the bystander effect. I think that there is only the pussy effect. We have neutered our men so they are like women.
I have been in a number of emergency situations where EVERY single MAN responded because he was a man.
I have a question for you OP, how was your relationship with Tim prior to this event? And how has it changed now?
Edit: and am I the only one who wanted to kill all those guys who just stood around doing nothing, especially the one who had the audacity to talk shit?
Obviously, the sensibly thing to do is not to kill them, but if any of you are wondering what sort of shit for brains pathetically weak pussies you shouldn't friends with, it's those people. Male or female by my reckoning, but especially males that are that weak.
loddfavne 10y ago
That's some military shit, right there.
juliusstreicher 10y ago
I didn't want to kill them; I just wanted to kick them in the balls until their noses bled. I'm not a savage.
CowardlyPetrov 10y ago
I'm just expressing anger with hyperbole, which is a mistake on the internet.
Edit:
Ha, not savage you say.
juliusstreicher 10y ago
I thought that you were going to write that you killed a shit-eating dog.
[deleted] 10y ago
One time I had to give a dog the Heimlich.
A whole fucking White Castle came shooting out of its mouth.
A minute later it was trying to eat it again after almost dying.
darkrood 10y ago
There, I sense product placement.
Honestly, I know there's a movie about it, but is the burger that good?!!!
fortifiedoranges 10y ago
It's one of those things that sounds great when you're drunk at 3am but you regret it at 6am.
[deleted] 10y ago
Not really. The only remarkable thing about them is that they are small.
We were chilling and the dogs owner dropped one of the little burgers. Dude tried to reach down and grab the thing and the dog pounced at the same time. The dog realized the guy was going to try and stop him so the dog dried to gwat it down immediately and in his haste choked.
The dogs legs got all rigid and its whole body tensed up, started slobbering (more than dogs usually do) and I realized it was choking.
Redsqa 10y ago
Part of me wants to tell you to go ape shit on those morons. Part of me wants to tell you not to, as it may harm your relationship with them.
But still, what a bunch of incompetent fucks. It's one thing they just froze, it's another to berate you when you're the only one trying to save a life. Good CPR can break ribs. Often, actually. Effective CPR is not some pussy-ass bouncing like you can see in the movies. You go to town on that sternum. Like you're trying to push your ex wife's head under water after she's just told you she would be suing again for more alimony.
It's better to get a few broken bones than being dead.
SexyDeviI 10y ago
Please start some Red Pill comedy gigs. Roflmao.
babybopp 10y ago
yes.. i was watching some videos on rescue and one of the things that guy said was that good CPR most of the time breaks someone's sternum. i have taken a physical class and a bunch of people do not realize, that chest needs to go down to enable blood circulation.
pilledwillingly 10y ago
"You are doing it too hard, you'll hurt him."
Should have said: "He is dead, he cannot be hurt."
[deleted] 10y ago
Yep had to save an OD-ing girl....that shot up H, but yeah like broke her sternum.

Does this really shock you? That's shocking!
ErasmusOrgasmus 10y ago
Good story, although
Actually TRP is first and foremost a sexual strategy based on self improvement. You got the chicken and the egg the wrong way around. Straight from the sidebar:
inspiringpornstar 10y ago
Well he does have a good story and wingman to back it up now for some pussy... But I think a lot of people take it as a way to live in general that has benefitted them
ErasmusOrgasmus 10y ago
People can take and use TRP however they like but OP's declarative statement that sexual strategy "should never be the focal point of TRP" is demonstrably false and represents only his view.
RXRob 10y ago
Well done. You handled the situation perfectly despite nobody else doing the right thing.
We had a referee go down in training with an epiletic fit. I was at the far side of the room and had to push past about 15 guys to get to the ring. Myself and a 16 year old girl protected his head, kept his airways clear of vomit, eventually got him in the recovery position. It took us 10 minutes of yelling before somebody called an ambulance.
How fucking retarded must you be to be unable to call an ambulance in an emergency, even after somebody has told you to?
Redpillwhiterabbit 10y ago
They always told me in my cpr training to a specific name and tell a specific person to call 911. As you mentioned, the bystander effect bypasses logic and the brain tells them that "someone else is calling, I gotta see this".
Also, they are now saying that breaths into the persons mouth are not needed as the elasticity of the chest cavity will draw enough to do what needs to be done: keep the brain alive until a defibrillator can arrive. Something like 19% of people who pass out actually wake up on their own.
Many people crack ribs while performing CPR.
Personally, I'd rather break every rib in my chest and live to recover than go out because of a piece of fucking food.
Good work.
destruct_zero 10y ago
The other reason rescue breaths are not recommended (in some countries) is because so many people are put off doing CPR entirely at the thought of putting their lips against someone else's mouth covered in mucus or vomit. People are simply more likely to do CPR if they don't have to do mouth to mouth. Also, there's a biological hazard to the person doing CPR due to the transmission of potentially infected bodily fluids. These risks generally aren't outweighed by the small advantage rescue breaths provide the victim.
TyPerfect 10y ago
Also tidal volume is only 500ml. Compression only is best unless you are flowing O2.
[deleted]
Cell-i-Zenit 10y ago
you dont need to do the breaths because in your blood is enough "air" for 10 minutes.
draquish 10y ago
That is assuming the person is ventilating correctly...while you are compressing their thoracic cage at 120bpm.
Redpillwhiterabbit 10y ago
How are people only able to hold their breath for about 4 minutes then? Also, how could a defibrillator arrive in 10 minutes? Most successful situations are closer to triple that time.
It is important to make sure the airways are unobstructed as much as possible. I'd rather deal with a bit of food in my lung than die.
Definitely study how to save as small child or baby. I've had to save several youngsters from a riptide and I realized that had they gone under I probably would have killed them attempting to help.
Cell-i-Zenit 10y ago
People can hold their breath for 10 minutes, but their reflex for breathing is to strong. They lose the air in the lung and breath in water.
also there is a difference between passout and death
sirmadam 10y ago
Don't be a bitch. Do the breaths.
Dr_Acu1a 10y ago
Fuck that. Don't be a bitch, carry a rescue mask. I don't know where they've been.
TyPerfect 10y ago
Pulling their shit over their face helps too.
Cell-i-Zenit 10y ago
ofc it would be better to do the breaths, but you have no clue how you would react in such a situation. You need to "bend" the neck back, close the nose and then do the breaths. When you forget to close the nose, you just wasted 15 seconds. Its just easier to "only massage the heart, forget everything else"
bonus information: you dont do the breaths on the mouth anymore, you do breathing through the nose.Overzealous_BlackGuy 10y ago
I was just recertified in about may. No body mentioned blowing the nose.
Cell-i-Zenit 10y ago
i had it 2 years ago and they said this. Interesting
Overzealous_BlackGuy 10y ago
I. Also got certified in 2012 in the airforce, and mouth to mouth was the primary method then As well.
Cell-i-Zenit 10y ago
well i think i should remove this. Good to know
sirmadam 10y ago
The whole point to training is to know what to do when shit hits the fan. I'll repeat, don't be a bitch, do the breaths.
babybopp 10y ago
hindsight can aways be a bitch. But when you are caught in that situation, time flies, adrenaline kicks..
sirmadam 10y ago
Yeah but the person I replied to gave excuses as to why one would not do the breaths. Also "you dont do the breaths on the mouth anymore, you do breathing through the nose" is the kind of stupid information that gets people killed.

Tim owes you a fucking beer.

I believe it.
It is an obnoxious neologism, but "sheeple" applies very well to the overwhelming majority of the populace today. Generations of subservient, docile, simpering weaklings have degraded the bloodlines of their dynamic, aggressive, rapacious ancestors to this point.
razorwan 10y ago
OP just letting you know that people standing around has less to do with them being betas or something, and more to do with human panic in a stressful situation. Add on the potentially litigious situation and people not helping becomes more foreseeable. Profoundly wrong, but foreseeable.
babybopp 10y ago
actually my point was not based on that. Most people's reaction nowadays sadly is to whip out a phone and record the situation. In my case, the guys people would normally think would take charge of the situation failed miserably and the one guy no one thought stood up. Now when you go unconscious, implied consent law /good samaritan law comes into play. It is regarded as you give your consent and the good samaritan is protected from litigation by law.
Notice i used myself as Beta me a year ago would have stood as a deer in the headlights. I did not specifically call anyone a beta. But in my case, TRP has helped me gain a more profound awareness and self confidence and improvement that i never had before.

As an electrical worker who has only done CPR in real life once. It was good to know that you were 'That guy'. The one who said something. I was that guy. "Todd, call triple-O, Jacko, Bravie, grab the arms, we're going to get him flat on the floor." Man, it was like a lightswitch. I was the most junior of the crew yet as soon as I spoke we all just moved like it was in our 6 monthly regs training.
razorwan 10y ago
The phone thing is really disgusting so I know what you mean there. Didn't know about the Good Samaritan laws so thanks for informing me
babybopp 10y ago
BUT very important, if you are in a public place and you do not know the person, you need to state to them" i am certified in CPR/first AId, do you want me to help you ?" if they are conscious... that law only pertains to unconscious people. But if it someone you know, you dont need to ask for consent for obvious reasons.
TyPerfect 10y ago
Any child is automatically implied consent.

Nice job brother!
I've been in a similar situation with a severe woodworking accident and it's amazing how shock makes people freeze.. they just stand there wide eyed as a guy is losing blood by the second.
As I'm wrapping the injury with the shirt off my back, yelling at my assistants to get the med kit and call 911 they just stood there. I'm covered in blood and these guys had no fucking clue what to do. What felt like minutes passed before the call was made and by the time the ambulance showed up my guy was going into and out of consciousness from blood loss.
I'll never forget that day as had I not leaped into action, he would have died on the floor.
I had my CPR cert back in the boy scouts and it's something you never forget.
eidt Don't forget to carry a CPR shield in your wallet, glove box, first aid kit or whatnot as you being the first responder, must take care to protect yourself first before helping. In my case, I had to do a battery of tests after to ensure I didn't contract anything from blood exposure.
babybopp 10y ago
also carry a fire extinguisher in the back of your car and house. i bought a bunch and gave them to my immediate family. also carbon monoxide/smoke detectors i installed in my folks and sibling houses. they are cheap, less than $10
CRUSHPUSSY_MARRYAMAN 10y ago
Take note here that OP did the exact right thing by designating one single, specific person to call 911. In an emergency, you never shout out to everyone standing "Somebody call 911!" because most times, nobody will. If you single somebody out and say "Hey, you. Call 911. That is your job." Most times you will get a better response. OP can't help that every other person in the room was too beta to move.
[deleted] 10y ago
They had the fucking balls to tell you not to do it too hard AFTER THEY DID NOTHING? I'm not even surprised. What a bunch of fucking women freezing up in danger. Pussies.
pilledwillingly 10y ago
Man, some people just have it and some don't. Repeated exposure makes it easier to step into action mode but sometimes people are just not sure if what to do so they try not to draw attention to themselves.
Turn_Coat 10y ago
Just wait until he gets fired for 'disturbing the work place'
doomguide 10y ago
I want to add an event I feel is relevant.
There was a tremendous fucking flood going on in my city, a levee broke and water was rising rapidly. I'm with my father trying to evacuate with our belongings.
We are trapped in a massive line of cars at a four way intersection for a few minutes. Vehicles all over the fucking place completely jammed up; honking, people screaming, physical altercations ready to erupt - complete chaos.
My old man hops out and runs at least fifty yards up to the intersection and starts commanding every person and directing traffic. He turned into a human fucking traffic light in the middle of this intersection, waving people through, traffic starts flowing like the juices of Slut Bag Sally's pussy before Chad slides up inside. We made our way, and I'm sure it once again returned to a bumble fuck afterwards.
I learned that day a lesson. Take control of your life, no one else is going to.
Ninja_Wizard_69 10y ago
Reminds me of the time lightning hit the house across from my house and started it on fire. I told my mom to call 911 and she was like "it'll be fine"
"THEIR HOUSE IS ON FUCKING FIRE"
I ended up calling immediately after she said that....

like to hear stories that dont involve dumb shit like pandering to western women aka human toilet bowls
tittytainment 10y ago
I once watched someone fall over on an escalator in a busy railway station. I was by no means the closest and while a couple of people ran up the still moving stairs to help her, several others milled about looking confused. No-one else had the wherewithal, so I stepped smartly up to the emergency stop and pushed it. Seeing that there were enough knights in shining armor, I continued on my way. I still wonder at the failure of several people to do the obvious. Shrug.
babybopp 10y ago
yes.. and later when the story is being passed around to wives and girlfriends, all i was over hearing was " can you imagine babe, WE did CPR on the guy and he came back..!"
That does not bother me the least. They can take all the credit they want. I did good to the man.
Plus the ER nurses really paid attention to me. I think it was one of the few times i saw a really cute girl mirin' me for what i accomplished. As i was talking to her, halfway realized she was not even listening to anything i was saying and was preening with a weird stare at my lips.
darkrood 10y ago
" halfway realized she was not even listening to anything i was saying and was preening with a weird stare at my lips."
Somehow, I think she likes the hero who saved the life today.
What did the mysterious hero say?!!!

Man I hope Tim thanked you for saving your life, and I hope you tell those fucking morons who couldn't even bother to dial 3 digits that they should be ashamed of themselves.
billcosbyeatsbabies 10y ago
This just increased your reputation in the workplace 400%. Fucking insane, nice job. Use this experience to your advantage, when people talk to you about it, act like it wasnt a big deal. Like it just happened naturally for you. Don't even say "oh yeah i only knew how to save his life because of the cpr course i took".
Again, nice job man
