Recent Super Bowl Commercial.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yrq8ruhmCX0
After years of being treated as if she were invisible, it occurred that she might actually be invisible...
cue Mindy doing "you-go-girl" things like walking around naked (shudder).
At the end, it cuts to her sniffing Matt Damon, after which she asks...
"Can you kiss me so I can make sure?"
Cue Matt Damon saying "no"
Now reverse the genders. And let's examine the feminist reaction:
- Man complaining he's treated as though invisible?
"Eww, so creepy! Men aren't entitled to female attention! Check your privilege! Men have the patriarchy and you shouldn't ever complain!"
- Women complaining she's treated as invisible?
"I feel so sorry for her! She's so lonely and needs to be protected! No woman should have to go through this! Not ever! By the way, where have all the good men gone? Wah!"
- Man walking around naked or doing outlandish things for attention
"Eww, don't assert your toxic masculinity on others! All men need to realize that even the most mundane things can be triggering for women, because we are all potential rape victims! Please don't assume that your societal-conditioned cismale gestures aren't rapey...because they can be!"
- Woman walking around naked or doing outlandish things for attention
"Haha, she's so quirky and fun! I wish other women would stop focusing on looks and body image and instead be exactly like this woman! She gives no fucks and that's the most attractive thing for a woman to be!..."
(solipsism; taking what they find attractive in men and wishing it applies to women)
"...We need to teach young girls that it's okay to be quirky!"
(excuse to be unattractive and overweight...just like Mindy Kaling. To be clear, it IS okay to be unattractive and overweight. Your choice. But it becomes not okay once you start demanding that men find you attractive).
- Man going up to female celebrity out of his class (as Matt Damon is out of Mindy's class) and sniffing/groping/asking for a kiss...
"Eww, so creepy! That is sexual harassment and unwanted masculinity! We are teaching young boys that it's okay to rape! Please send all pre-pubescent males to education camps to teach them not to hurt women, because all men naturally want to!"
- Woman going up to male and doing the same
"Haha, oh she is so goofy! I just love overly romanticizing being introverted and being socially inept around my crush! And it's so courageous of her to act on her impulses!"
Lessons:
1) Standards women have for low value men are much stricter than those they have for high value men.
Low SMV men are the scapegoats for women's anger/resentment when they are unable to secure sex/attention/commitment from high SMV men. Low value men receive women's ire because women know that they will take it and still come back for more, all for the chance for a little sex
High value men escape these requirements by being redpill, by showing women they have options and won't put up with it.
2) Standards society has for women and men are different.
Keep in mind that these standards heavily favor 100% of women and only 20% of men. And even then, the favorable treatment for these high SMV 20% of men are implied and never outright stated. They are actually outright denied, but you can observe the reality; "Watch what women do, not what they say".
And last time I checked, women are still going home with alphas while complaining/scapegoating/resigning-themselves-to-marriage with the betas.
Hence the existence of /r/theredpill.

NFL has ceded its fan base to the women/family demographic in pursuit of those easily-extracted dollars. All the pink in October was just the start. Ray Rice et al gave the SJW's the In for outrage and demands for change.
Super Bowl ads are merely reflecting what advertisers believe the audience to be. Less truck/beer/bikini babe ads and more insurance/"messaging" (domestic violence, bullying, etc) type of ads.
This won't have much effect on brainwashing the masses of women because most simply don't watch football/Super Bowl anyway, and even when "watching for the commercials" they're sitting around yapping about some stupidity and don't really see much anyway. This is the folly of 32 billionaires who somehow forgot business principles when they bought a football team.
Mindy Kaling is talented, smart, successful, and physically unattractive to the majority of the opposite sex. Sounds like many of us 80%ers. Some would jump on it for security or thirst, the rest would pass by without a thought because "I can do better".
EDIT: also, put Joe Average in the ad instead of Matt Damon or other Famous Hunky Celeb and see how much effort little miss fatty puts into her charm offensive

There was an NPR blog article which talked about the "preview" version of this ad (which had everything except the part with Matt Damon).
http://www.npr.org/blogs/goatsandsoda/2015/01/31/382708057/mindy-kaling-s-super-bowl-ad-are-indian-women-invisible
The comments section of the article turned into a bit of a cultural battleground with people dropping red pill truths:

Not really ethnicity, but poverty. It just happens that poverty and ethnicity correlate so people, women included, make the association.
But ask a women if she wants to be the wife of a mega rich Muslim american immigrant... He won't be a Muslim immigrant anymore, but a hot ethnic adventurous man. "Only" difference is the money.

Take it a step further, one of the most obvious RP 9000LB elephants out there.
Compare interracial marriage rates in the general US population with those among professional athletes.
It literally goes from ~10% to something like 50%.

And it stands to reason that they would. Feminism is a power play. What use do they have for the most marginalized groups in society? Excepting where they can use them to further their ends.

That commercial is an allegory for how Tinder allows your average women to have access to a top 20% man. However, it doesn't show that she will hold onto that one night in his condo for the rest of her life.
Zanford 11y ago
The most telling bit is that Mindy considers herself 'invisible to men' if Matt Damon doesn't kiss her.
In other words, non-celebrity men are invisible to her.
She's whining about high standards for female SMV, while exhibiting stratospheric standards for male SMV.
[deleted] 11y ago
Maybe everyone isn't entitled to sex? #feministlogic
Also, prostitution should be illegal because it sets high standards for women #equalrights.
Honestly, I don't even know why we discuss these articles/videos anymore. We know better than to expect logic or even empathy from a female.

Mindy gets work because she's a fat (1), Indian (2), mostly unattractive (3), and female (4).
Pretty goddamn tough to beat in the victim hierarchy.
[deleted] 11y ago
When does she act like a victim? I'm not that familiar with her, but from what I've seen she's pretty funny and not being a victim at all. This commercial (which I laughed at) was definitely not victimhood.
The fact that she's not particularly attractive simply means that, like a man, she had to work to get what she has. I don't know why we are hating on this.
Disclaimer: I started to find her attractive after exposure to her. Maybe I'm biased.
weirdnamedindian 11y ago
Also quite funny - self depreciating humour works in her favour.
She knows she's never going to be considered the pretty one - ever!
She knows she has a choice - complain that the world is unfair for not wanting her or not give a shit, make jokes at her expense and keep moving on.
LastRevision Endorsed Contributor 11y ago
Yes, the idea is that the average dumpy television watching woman can relate to her situations. I don't think Mindy is absolutely terrible, I think her comedic timing is just fine, but she obviously is ahead of the pack because of the laundry list of victim hierarchy items in her favor.

Is she an anomaly for 2015? Or does her popularity fall along the same line as Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and the City, only turned up due to her minority/fat status?
I'd wager the two women have the same audience, who are very sensitive to feeling intimidated by an actress who is supposed to be relatable.
Newdist2 11y ago
Fat? Unattractive? Maybe by TV standards, where everyone is a 9+, but compared to the average 35-year old (her age) American woman, she looks damn good.
LastRevision Endorsed Contributor 11y ago
Of course by TV standards. But, fuck, honestly by average American standards for her age, she's still only a HB4.5 at best.

Mindy gets work because she was a writer on one of the biggest and most successful sitcoms of the past 10 years.
Zanford 11y ago
Being a writer doesn't usually get you acting work.
krakosia 11y ago
BJ Novak was a writer for the office too and he acted in the show and in other things.
LastRevision Endorsed Contributor 11y ago
This is a fucking DERR comment. Yes, she has a resume and is talented. I'm not saying she ONLY gets work because of the above list- but guess what? A shit ton of people in Hollywood (yes, even women) are every bit as talented but not in the same position of opportunity Mindy has and why....
Because she's a fat, awkward minority, she is appealing to a particular audience (women, 28-44) who would find someone like Zooey too much of a "skinny bitch."
If you don't think Hollywood works this way... well, I guess that's cute.
[deleted] 11y ago
What talks in Hollywood money. Mindy made a lot of people a lot money. Now she has what I assume to be a shitty show I've never seen it. She made people money so now she has another shot at doing just that. Tina fey and any pohler are attractive talented (in the same way as mindy) white women. They got their shot and haven't looked back. There are still a few professions where money (and performance) talks and bullshit walks. Hollywood is one of them.
LastRevision Endorsed Contributor 11y ago
Ooh. Ok. I get it. I understand. What you said completely negates my point.

You're more than welcome to respond to my opinion/point with those of your own. Talking down to me like I'm some kind of moron doesn't really make your opinion/point more valid.
LastRevision Endorsed Contributor 11y ago
Which is what I did... Yes, you're right, Mindy makes money and she gets work, but who cares? The point of /r/TheRedPill is understanding WHY this is the case, so her television value- while, you're right, is high, means very little... We are talking about WHAT makes her appeal to her audience and WHY.
Btw, the sky is blue and astronauts are neat.
[deleted] 11y ago
Actually, no the comment of yours I responded to was about why mindy gets work.
BTW, your dumbass snarky shit adds nothing to the conversation.

Matt Damon seemed pretty creeped out by it. I don't think swapping the genders is at all instructive in this case. It would still pretty much mirror reality.

Let me put it this way. People like you and I look at this commercial with a MAN in it. We look at the same commercial with a WOMAN in it.
We say "That's just for laughs", regardless of the person being male or female.
Now, feminists and wider society looks at the commercial with the woman in it. They say "yes, it's just for laughs". They then look at it with the MAN in it.
What is their reaction? That's my point.
Basically, if the genders were reversed, would wider society also be calling that "humorous"?
No. They would be calling it sexist, which proves the entire point of this post; that the fact one would excuse this as "just a fun commercial" and "reading too much into it" is exactly the phenomenon I'm talking about:
That society has different expectations for men versus women. Women doing this is labeled as "just for fun", as you put it, whereas it'd be labeled as "rape" if men did it. That's why newbies must be recognize this as a first step to realizing that society is not on your side.
Focus on the Lessons part, which is the most important part of the post.

You underestimate the soft power of advertising and the effect that media has on shaping perception/opinion. There is a reason advertising is a billion dollar industry, it inculcates specific viewpoints and use subconscious manipulation to invoke a desire in a product. Normally this is done via positive association and tapping into ideas/value systems that are popular in the contemporary culture. Now the two base/primitive attention grabbers are sex and violence, so to sell you stuff they use sex/innuendo or suggestive/artistic sexual puns, seduction/sensualness (the sexy voice, the silk fluttering in the wind slowly etc) To make you hate things they can't really do that very well through an ad, so that's what school/college is for (imparting value systems which make you hate other value systems.)
Media taps into the current culture's values and then uses them to create positive associations between values which have mass appeal and the product being sold. In cultures which aren't conservative sex is used as the superficial glazing to grab your attention and make you think the product is "polished." It's like saying see this bottle of BBQ sauce and how it's shaped like Kim Kardashian's butt? Now look at Kim Kardashian. Yes. They're similar. The BBQ sauce is tasty because it's similar to Kim Kardashian's butt, and we know that butt is a good butt. Now buy the sauce like a good little lemming, and try not to bust your own sauce all over your hands on the way to the shop thinking about it.
To dismiss the power of media is folly. OP isn't saying it's a "men's rights issue" because evidently it isn't, merely it is an example of a feminist value system dominating the culture enough to be used as an advertising tool.
A picture's worth a thousand words so here's some media representing cultural values from a different era:
http://lh5.ggpht.com/__zoKJ77EvEc/TIex5s_rL0I/AAAAAAAAHa4/V1Aj5zC6fHg/vintage-sexist-ads%20%2815%29%5B2%5D.jpg?imgmax=800
Don't underestimate the media, especially the advertising industry.

Pretty much explains why school is a bunch of crap. Obviously it's not entirely bad, you have basic literacy and numeracy skills and if you were lucky and did the right courses in the right institutions, even some critical thinking skills. I was lucky in that the college I went to taught me critical thinking and philosophy 101. Immensely helpful stuff, and you can extend your understanding in your own time by self-learning.

I think the OP is valuable content due to the explanation (can you imagine a reversed commercial without at least a moderate backlash/outcry/whatever?), about how society has different standards for men and women. Regular examples that reinforce and support RP theory is useful. That said, this is barely past the line of what I'd personally consider shitposting, although I see why it can be valuable for new people.
TRPsubmitter Vanguard 11y ago
Yes, exactly. The above comment defending the commercial can basically be used as an example of what I was talking about when society selectively excuses what women do while holding men accountable.
The double-standard is one of the most prevalent but often unrecognized parts of society. We've been so conditioned just to accept it.
And as the above shows, it very often goes unrecognized.
RedPillDad Endorsed Contributor 11y ago
The commercial was about the pussy pass, not female invisibility. A woman can do stupid shit in public and people will just look away.
Edit: The truth of the commercial is that a low value woman is mostly ignored. She acts up to get some attention, but no one is willing to call her out on her shitty behavior. In comparison, a low value guy is shamed and shunned to the point invisibility becomes preferable. He does whatever he can to blend in and avoid attention.
User-31f64a4e 11y ago
Yes, this double standard is very real.
In the Sarah Silverman commercial for a cellphone company, where she's in the delivery room of her house, she says "It's a boy. Sorry."
Can you imagine a male doing that commercial and saying "It's a girl. Sorry"? That person would be massively criticized.
waylandertheslayer 11y ago
Can you imagine the amount of hate and backlash they would get? Everyone involved would be considered to be to blame for everything from FGM to ethnic cleansing in 3rd world shitholes.
