Dear RP experts,
I’m making this post partly to get something off my chest but mainly because I’d like to hear some perspectives from people here who have more experience with these dynamics.
I currently have a plate who has become noticeably more distant recently. She’s no longer as eager to please sexually as she used to be whether physically or through sending nudes/videos. I suppose that’s ultimately not surprising. Plates break eventually and I’ve more or less accepted that even through she still contacts me for attention. In this particular case, I suspect she has realised that nothing serious is going to come out of things with me and she’s also getting to an age where she probably wants to figure out where her relationship prospects are going.
What I recently discovered, though, has made me look at the whole situation rather differently.
Apparently, she has been spinning another guy for years without me knowing about it. From what I can tell, she has invested a ridiculous amount of sexual attention into this guy — sending him plenty of nudes/videos and making herself sexually available whenever he wants even things that she has not done for me despite wanting it.
The interesting part is that he apparently gives her almost nothing in return. He doesn’t buy her things. He doesn’t take her out. Their physical meetings seem to consist largely of quick meetups/quickies in the car. She has apparently been trying to turn this into something more serious but he hasn’t given her any indication that he wants a relationship. At one point she even asked him whether he was married and he never answered the question.
My read is that this guy is basically treating her as a convenient fuck toy while she continues hoping that eventually all the sexual investment she has made will somehow convert into a relationship.
And this is where I’ve started reflecting on my own behaviour.
Although I regarded her as a plate, I actually did quite a lot of the stereotypically “beta” stuff. I bought her gifts, spent money on her, took her out, etc out of good faith. So seeing how willingly she has sexually invested herself in another guy who apparently gives her almost nothing in return has made me realise that, in a sense, I was probably paying for something that this other guy was getting for free.
Obviously that’s on me. I’m not complaining about having spent the money or gifts — I chose to do it. But psychologically, it has made me question what I was actually doing and what I was getting out of the arrangement.
For now, I’ve basically withdrawn my attention. Her recent messages are increasingly about her feelings, frustrations with life and how I’m supposedly her only friend, wanting to have dinner, etc. I’m not interested in becoming her emotional support system so I’ve stopped engaging.
What I’m genuinely curious about, though, is the other guy.
How does this usually end when a woman has invested this heavily into a guy sexually for years while hoping that the relationship will eventually materialise? At what point does she realise it isn’t happening?
Does increasing the amount of sex, nudes, attention and availability actually reinforce the behaviour because she occasionally gets enough attention from him to keep the hope alive?
Or does there eventually come a point where the accumulated frustration turns into resentment, confrontation, jealousy, or some kind of emotional explosion?
What puzzles me most is that she doesn’t seem to be walking away despite apparently getting very little from him beyond sexual attention. Instead, she seems to be doubling down — more sexual attention, more nudes/videos, more availability, while continuing to hope for something serious.
I’m also wondering whether I should be careful about anything on my end and how I should respond to her messages from time to time about having dinner etc. Given that I’m now pulling back while she is simultaneously becoming increasingly emotionally frustrated with this other guy, is there any possibility that I could end up becoming the fallback/attention source when things eventually implode with him?
And finally, putting the RP terminology aside for a moment, what should I actually learn from this situation?
I’m beginning to think I may have misunderstood the dynamics of the arrangement myself. I treated her as a plate, but perhaps I was behaving more like an LTR provider while another guy was getting the raw sexual attraction without having to provide any of that.
Interested to hear how you guys would interpret the situation, particularly from the female-psychology/attachment side rather than simply “she’s a plate, plates break.”
Appreciate any perspectives. Thanks guys

In the end market forces always win in a LTR. Plate or not, it ran for a time because you provided enough benefit to her. You aren't providing what she wants so she withdraws (women withdraw anyway with time, being in love is short lived and a woman not in love is far more transactional that she likes to think).
You can't fool her forever. You can make a woman double down on her investment at first by playing her but in the end she is going to get pretty pissed off and resentful and realise you are not what she wants. She will feel stupid and that will make her more bitter and the hamster will turn it against you. You were supposed to be her guy, on her side, her support and you were a fraud. You will eventually just be another crappy ex. Men are such bastards!....
There is no magic moment the realisation comes but -unless there is a monkey branch- the break usually happens when you finally decide to stop putting in the energy to spin her wheels just enough to get her to give you just enough affection to keep you interested. You realise that you put in more than you get out and so you stop the spinning.
As for the other guy in your case, he was just higher value in her mind and he was just chill enough not to care enough to commit, so she kept trying. Another girl who valued you above the other guy would have done it the other way round. If she actually gets into a relationship with him, he will let her down and she will become bitter and walk. At the moment he is probably just high value in her mind, and while she had you she could hope. I expect that had she only had him, they would be done by now. She had a situation where you were the bread and he the butter in her sandwich. Take away the bread and you can't get far with the butter.

Well written response with a balanced perspective. Thank you so much.
It sucks to be that bread while that butter has been getting all the sexual benefits without even the slightest cost. Maybe it’s something I must seriously work on as somehow I realized it’s in my nature to give some benefit or comfort out of good faith. It’s the same treatment to my other plates too. She’s not the only one but this particular plate somehow triggered a whole lot of internal dialogue in me probably due to the fact of knowing that another guy is getting away with all the sexual benefits without giving anything back for almost 5 years while I did invest something.
Maybe the only saving grace is she doesn’t know that I know about how this guy is enjoying himself to her. Will just keep it at that without asking or confronting. The only thing left to consider is what would you do if in my shoes knowing that she will continue to contact me for attention. Just the other day she did that again and I told her to come to my place and asked her to send me a snap of what she’s wearing.
Her response was she’s wearing a dress and she is not coming over or sending me any snap but she wants to have dinner. I left her at read. I believe such interaction will continue on for a while. How will you respond to it? Should I just block her or simply ignore her with max dread game. Grateful to any advice. Appreciated

Dread is 2 things:
1) her fear of losing you
2) your not allowing yourself to be taken for granted
Yeah. Good luck with that. Next.
Why would you want to continue things with a woman who's been fucking someone else this entire time anyway? I could see if you just fucked her and absolutely nothing else, no gifts, meals, dates, etc. But you're writing like you're trying to form a solid relationship with her.
Go back to basics and reread the sidebar.

The answer to whether or not to block her is personal. I would not decide in a knee jerk way because you have been with her a long time but also if you do decide to be done with her, don't just "leave it on pending"
So many of us do that with women that we are thinking of dumping but we want to make sure. We leave it on pending, then we have sex with her again and it is good enough sex and that by some weakness of the male brain we then go back to day zero of it pending. Thus a situation we do not really like but the woman is content with goes on. This is Ok if you are just using her to drain balls while actively exploring other options but its absolutely not OK if she is taking your time and energy from exploring other options or robbing you of a desire to explore other options because your urge to do so is numbed just enough by the sex you are getting.
So like I say, what to do is personal and depends on how much it hurts one way or the other and what the opportunity cost is to you overall. Take a good careful look. Maybe go away for a few days, get out of your current head space and reflect?
It looks like she is seeing you in a certain way and it is unusual that you can change the way anyone -particularly a woman- sees you. This seems to be true with women from the get go. They very rarely get the idea that you are higher value than they started thinking you are but they can gradually think you are lower value.
One thing to remember is that just like a guy can get something different from each of two women, the same applies for women. (Guys just seem to be fairer about what they give back to two different women but then again women are not known that much for giving back are they?) She may well genuinely value the more "partnerish" things she gets from you but if that is not worth it to you, then its unlikely that suddenly trying to be exciting or commanding will change her view. Women can actually value men they are disloyal to but it lowers their value to men.
I had a plate who incessantly told me how hung up she was on a guy she split up with years ago after being serially unfaithful to him. Eventually they ended up in a one sided "open relationship" to avoid them having to split up each time she banged a guy. Then he decided to get some self respect, find a "good" woman and cut her right off. Years later she was back in contact and still checking he was OK and sending him messages and cards. His wife then totally out of the blue dropped dead and I said "Look why don't you just go see this guy, bang him and get back together with him?" (I had no desire to have this girl as "my woman". The guy looked like a total dweeb and if I could move her from being so needy, it would be easier for me).
"He wouldn't want me any more. (she had I supposed found this out from trying) I didn't know what I had till I threw it away"
"What was so great about him?"
"He was completely understanding, supportive and let me do whatever I wanted"
Amusingly in a sort of way of apologising, she would try to fix him up with girls she knew. An understanding cuck can be very valued but most men can't play that role if they have any self respect. I also saw it in a hot young woman who used to sleep with older men for money and wanted to have me as her real boyfriend. She really valued the guys, just didn't respect them sexually. I however figured she didn't respect me either and cut her off but one of the older guys seemed OK with it. He just wanted a little something extra, not ownership of a slut. It depends where you are and what you want.

A "plate" is one of several women in your rotation. If you have one woman you're having sex with, there's nothing wrong with that, but she's not a "plate". Your behaviour towards her, and the overthinking and psychoanalysing underlying your post, reflects the fact that, to you, she's not a plate.
If you're wondering why you're this way, and the other guy is that way, you probably don't have to look much further than that. To him, she's probably one of several women in his rotation - a "plate" in the true meaning of the word. So he's got the abundance and lack of emotional investment to be The Skittles Man (look it up).
Like, can you imagine the other guy writing this long-ass post on the internet about this one particular woman? Of course not. Because she doesn't take up that much space in his mind. And that's the difference.
Basically, it's as simple as AF/BB. That's essentially what this all boils down to.

Nailed it.

A perfect pill to swallow before one thinks to post about any one chick. Would an HVM consider this a good use of time?

Ok. Some of this is going to hurt my man.
I've said the below in the interests of honesty and growth.
But you are half BP and half RP, and you've got some pain coming your way. I'm sorry for that, so maybe don't read all of this in one go.
We need more context.
Right. You say "for years", but how many years?
Right.
Yes, but you are slightly misreading her side of things.
What does "out of good faith" mean here?
TRP is clear on this stuff: provider behaviour kills sexual desire. It makes the whole thing transactional, and for women that overrides the sexual component. It also triggers "make him wait". It triggers Last Minute Resistance. It also makes her fake sexual interest: keep the stuff incoming in exchange for faux-sexual availability, thus masking her true sexual interest.
You shouldn't be paying for women. The more you pay, the less you get. Women who want to fuck you will fuck you.
You probably have low self esteem, or are unable to fully sexually initiate, or you don't think you're that attractive. Thus you are compensating with dates, money, gifts, even though you claim to see her as a FWB (I can't use "plate" to describe women, women are not crockery).
You frame this transactionally. "I was paying X, I was getting Y". This means you were basically paying for sex.
PAYING FOR SEX DOES NOT WORK.
Paying will, at best, only buy you time with a woman (eg dates), but it doesn't buy you what you want: her sexual interest in you.
Success is attractive. The CAPABILITY of having spare resources that you COULD spend on her is attractive. But any actual provisioning or romance or expensive dates is provider behaviour. You should know this by now.
Better places to spend money: Yourself. Your clothes, your lifestyle. Invest in YOURSELF, not her. She gets to enjoy the ride, but you own the ride. There are ways to spend money to get sex, but none of it is on her.
There is perhaps one exception: a very occasional fun adventure-date.
This is good. In a world where her sexual interest is waning, you should be downsizing the rest of the relationship to match (ie attention, time together).
Right. Tricky though, because she's done nothing wrong in her head. She has no direct control over her sexual feelings (any more than you do). She will feel and experience this as "entirely natural, and that's what I feel".
The challenge for you is to leverage this desire into hot monkey sex. It can be done, but you've got to do it right. Basically the trick, as far as I can tell, is to package it all up together: arrange a "date night" (or some other phrasing).... and tell her how fun it's going to be.... "Lavish each other with attention, I'll wear that shirt you like, you'll be wearing lingerie".
On the day: listen to her complain, be super understanding, for 15 mins max. After that "Ok, enough about our problems, tell me.... what's your favourite icecream?"..... or whatever. Have some convo ideas lined up in your head, and be relentless about changing the subject after she's unloaded.
He has been doing what you should have been doing.
It usually ends with one of them getting bored/annoyed with the other.
Either she meets someone and goes monogamous, or he fails a shit test, or she starts banging-and-hoping someone else.
She hasn't thought it through this much. She's thinking "I want X, therefore send nudes".
Depending on the woman, often yes. And that's fine, this guy is probably banging others, and knows the score. He'll shrug and walk away.
But you're missing something here. You see it as "Pay sex, hope to get relationship". That's how women phrase it, but it contains a very serious lie in order to preserve her value.
Here is the reality: "Enjoy the hot sex, hope to get relationship"....... or, in some cases..... "Enjoy the hot sex, pretend to want relationship".
Why would she walk away? She's getting the hot sex she wants.
You need to understand this dynamic. She's not paying sex and hoping to get relationship. She's enjoying hot sex, and wanting to lock that down and convert to a relationship.
Is she though? Or is it all upsides with him?
I think you are that already.
Be him
You didn't treat her as a FWB though. You listen to her, give her attention, give her security, You pay for dates, you buy her gifts. You treated her as a girlfriend.
Yes. Exactly.
Yes.... but getting what he has, isn't as easy as just withholding attention.
I don't know what you want, in general.
The "half girlfriend" thing can be done.... the FWB thing. More than sex, less than relationship, multiple at a time. It can be done. But you do need to understand the dynamic of what provisioning (gifts, dinner dates, listening to her, providing security) does to the female brain and how it acts as a turn off for her.
The standard questions: because they matter deeply: how old are you, what's your bodyfat percentage, how muscular are you.
And lastly, sorry for any pain this causes you.
SeasonedRP 2 1d ago
She views you as a provider. He's the more exciting guy she's attracted to. She'll eventually find a provider and try to tamp down her urges for someone more exciting to her. It may work for a while, but down the road she'll likely slip. Maybe on a girls trip, maybe she'll resume hooking up with this guy or someone like him. The important thing to know is that she won't unlearn how she feels about you. So you need to exit and find someone who sees you as the attractive fun guy. Nothing good will come from keeping this girl in your life.

Below treat as various possible scenarios to see how could that look rather than sure thing
Gaming her, she is almost 100% sure he is not, he knew that, but refuses to answer straight, replying: If I have a wife I will put a dildo on her and make her fuck you. This is non low quality answer like "no""yes"
She enjoys trying to tame him
Maybe you have been this guy till you got tamed
Whatever you do dont get too emotuonal, take this opportunity to learn, do things you thought you are not capable of because you have had toomuch respect. Dont go rambo, make it gradual if possible for best outcome.
She gets old and choose from leftover options. Its like you wanting breed dog but if they are not available you get one from shelter.
Everything is possible its emotions
