I walked into the cafeteria at the mall i work and a group of girls said something and all turned to look at me. Then one of the girls yelled “i like your style” and I just said thank you and then turned away so I could order. When I got my food they were gone. Was this a IOI? My outfit was actually really good (olive tank with khaki pants and a white sneaker + accessories) and my coworkers complimented it as well. so maybe they just wanted to say that? If it was a IOI theres no way I could approach the entire group since I didn’t know what to even respond with other than saying thank you. I’m definitely socially slow and i feel like it’s causing me to miss out on a bunch of opportunities. Thoughts?

@tunnel rush "You're cute," was the womanese way of saying it. Come and have a conversation with me.

I’m not particularly attractive, but I have a very unusual and eye-catching sense of style. Believe me when I say that if you saw me in public you would definitely notice me. Also believe me that if you saw me wearing “regular” clothes you most assuredly would not. My sense of style clearly shows that I’m not afraid of being unconventional, and strangers talk to me all the time.
Depending on the context I may just smile and say, “Thank you” when I get a compliment, but quite often I end up having a conversation. Some of those conversations are with women, and some of those women signal interest. When that happens I tend to casually mention my wife so they know that I’m married (I don’t wear a wedding ring).
Your experience is a bit different in that you were dressed sharp rather than unusual, but the principle is the same: you were noticed. Being comfortable engaging people on the fly either alone or in groups is a useful social skill. I’ve been in front of live audiences countless times - from conference rooms to auditoriums - so public speaking is like breathing to me. Engaging in dialogue is a related - but not identical - skill. Both center on being comfortable in your own skin.
Could you have turned that opening into something more? I don’t know. Cutting one girl out of the herd is tough, but remember that you can’t win if you don’t play.

Dude virtually every single post you have the answer circles back to "if you had regular social skills (not even talking about game here) you could have walked up and conversed like normal"

That was womanese for "you're cute. Come talk to me".
The problem with spergs is you all look for IOIs when the most obvious ones are right in front of your face.
Get used to talking to big groups. Being a leader is a valuable skill.

Sounds like you did something right. You don't have to jump on it like a dog on a rabbit. So don't worry about not having done anything.
Think what a hot woman would have done? -smiled and walked on feeling good, that's all. Why? Why didn't she turn round like a thirsty bitch and get that guy's number? Because she has a surplus mentality.
I am not saying you couldn't have turned round and said "thanks, I like your outfit too and then inserted a compliment about how something in her outfit really worked -enough to say in other words that her outfit makes you notice she is hot and stylish- (I feel that in your case I must remind you not to say something too overt like "that low tight top really shows you have great tits"), then asked what brought the girls here today and seen if they were interesting girls you might like to know better but don't make too much of it apart from its a compliment.
Lets hope they come back there again and you can complement their outfits next time you see them.
If you keep getting it right things just happen right. Its like shooting. Put together your marksmanship principles and work on them regularly and soon you find you make a lucky shot quite often. Its amazing how much luckier you get when you get the boring basics of anything in life right.

Dude talking to a group is exactly the move you gotta make. Take some public speaking class to get used to having all eyes and ears on you. Act like you have something to say even if your mind is blank, believe that what you're gonna say is interesting, take a quick look at all the faces, there's a bunch of things you can do to help you in that scenario.

Thanks for giving actionable advice man, if it happens again I’ll try to force myself to face them instead of turning away. I thought of what I could say after but it was too late at that point
