This is a very concrete situation and hence a concrete question. How do I deal with confrontations in which someone is yelling at me? I'm 18 years old and don't know how to deal with situations like those yet and when I find myself in these situations I feel anxious or intimidated.

OP, some context would be better than a generic vague person yelling at you. Family, girlfriend, plate, friend, boss?
Context is very helpful on here

I went to the hotsprings the other day and used the water slide when I landed in the water I almost drowned and I was disoriented so I stayed still recovering in the place I was in the hotspring and then one lifeguard came and said "Hey, you faggot just move there's other people waiting". I know I shouldn't pay much attention to this but this brought to mind many other times the same thing happened to me with my brother or random people. I get paralyzed and I can't stand up for myself.
Vermillion-Rx Admin 1y ago
Serious question, do you have actual past trauma or PTSD or anything like that?
Virtual_Chemistry_99 1y ago
I don't believe I have any of that. There were just certain occasions in the past when I was yelled at by random people and I didn't develop the "tools" or the mental "fortitude" to shrug it off or stand up for myself.

gym, boxing or MMA classes, not jiu jitsu fag shit for homosexual closet guys that like to sniff men's asses. Jiu jitsu is the most retarded form of fighting after krav maga.
and get bigger at the gym. Then people will stop yelling at you

Lmfao. This guy’s NOT gay. Definitely NOT GAY, so dont get the wrong idea guys.
Vermillion-Rx Admin 1y ago
Generally I like his comments so benefit of the doubt here
coolsocks00 1 1y ago
Just making fun.
Guy thinks wrestling - an ancient combat sport - is gay. Clearly he has some sort of complex that deserves shining some bright light on.
Anbessa 1y ago
Wrestling is gay. Change my mind. (I won’t change my mind)
coolsocks00 1 1y ago
I will not change it, only point out your effeminate mindset.

Sure, I can say that, cause I've been boxing for 4 years and thai boxing for 2. Of course I can. Been in many fights and I can say what works and what not. If you're down on the ground, it's already over. BJJ, not wrestling, they are different, is useless on the street, as most fights go up to 10 seconds most of the time and someone is out cold on the ground, not grappling.
The streets and real life is not UFC or bjj competition. Now sit down and sip on your tea.
Plus, grappling is useless if the guy is heavier by at least 10kg. You can knock a bodybuilder out cold by knowing and practicing how to punch correctly, but that motherfucker will crush you on the ground.
Sit down kiddo, go to some boxing gyms and you'll see bodybuilding fags like you get completely humiliated by a 70kg skinny croatian

I have about double your experience. Come back when your balls have dropped, or try someone else
lambOfGod 1y ago
yep, you are a sperg. Go watch Tate or some other fag shit like that
AbusiveFather1 1y ago
jiu jitsu isn't wrestling. most of jiu jitsu guys pull guard and try to grapple off their back, which is a very efficient way to get your cranium caved in any kind of fight (assuming everyone's actually fighting with their hands).
coolsocks00 1 1y ago
Damn some of you guys are dense.
wrestling means grappling, it’s not just the sport of wrestling that does that. For the sports, they both involve guys wrestling on the floor, which is when retard #1 @lambofGod cant stop himself from getting a boner. (How that is anyone else’s issue, i dont know, gotta ask him)
AbusiveFather1 1y ago
ok, walmart gsp, let me clarify - olympic wrestling

Sometimes people will yell at you.
The question you have to ask is: "are they right?"
If they're right, stay calm and address their concern. Make it clear that they're right, but that you won't be addressed in that manner. If they continue, end the conversation. Yelling people quickly run out of steam when they realize you aren't listening.
If they're wrong, ignore them. If you can, just walk away like they don't matter.

Yeah, I was gonna do it after I recovered as I said I almost drowned but I don't think that being passive and getting paralyzed to the point I can't say anything and/or intimidated when someone yells at me is a good thing and that is what I'm emphasizing.
Anbessa 1y ago
I respectfully disagree

Sure, what exactly?

I think you have taken the first step which is self awareness.
You need to expand your comfort zone. You need to train your fortitude by small steps, accepting there will be failures but not aiming too high and so making too many failures.
Sergeants yell at recruits to make them tougher. The enemy will do a lot worse than yell at them, they need to be able to deal with negativety and carry on. You need to get something like this into your life.
Make sure you challenge yourself and challenge yourself to interact. Ideas like a martial art might help or the army as a reservist or some hobby that needs courage.
When in these situations try to view them from the outside not from the rabbit in the headlights approach. say "this guy is yelling at me, now what shall I do about it?" not "Oh shit I am in the shit" Focus on what you can feel -like the ground under your feet, the air on your face not the fear in your head and the adrenaline in your blood. Try to engage in a non retaliatory but non submissive way at first just to get familiar with functioning in this situation. Ask things like "why are you shouting, could you explain that to me quietly please?" Try to talk through it with them. step back or step away if you feel you are losing it. You will fail a lot before you succeed.
Its all training.

Developing good debating skills is essential in maintaining frame. However, willingness to walk away always prevails, which comes from detachment to emotional responses.
Things I recommend:
Meditation (you'll learn self awareness & ability to be calm in stressful situations through bigger picture thinking)
Gym. Work hard at it and push yourself to get better. This develops mental discipline.
Fighting skills (MMA, boxing, kickboxing). Good for when you can't resolve a confrontation/conflict. Necessary for full confidence in self.
By telling yourself the truth always (ex. skipped gym because I was lazy & I REALLY COULD OF IF I FOUND A WAY), you are able to see through people's excuses and BS. This allows you immense power in social situations.
A combination of working hard & studying. RP is about self improvement & building self power.

Some of you guys need to stop being such retards in the comments.
Listen up, this is how you handle a situation like this:
-It all depends on the tone and the situation. Sometimes you get some asshole who comes at you with no reason. Maybe they have some pent-up anger against you and they start yelling like a madman. You don't have to do anything. Just stay cool and act like you don't give a shit about them. (Don't be a pussy and freeze up or apologize lol) Just look at them and talk to them like you would talk to a child (and if they continue tell them to shut the fuck up). Or look at them and go on with what you were doing. This shows them that you are not intimidated and scared of them.
-In your case, if the lifeguard is being a asshole, you have to give it back to him. When he says something, just call him out on it. When he tells you to move, you'll say for ex. " what do you mean???! I almost drowned. I'm trying to recover.." And then when he tries to say something, keep pushing him and make him feel like he messed up. You have to look serious, calm and pissed off at the same time, like you are not going to take his shit anymore. You have to be calm and in control, and ask him a lot of questions. This will make him feel guilty and most of the time they will say sorry or they will say they didn't mean it etc... If you have any other questions, let me know.
