Befriending other night life regulars, buddying up with the dj, being relatively well known, chasing a bit of clout. I like to be relatively unknown, I think it helps on night scenes specially social dancing, so then I can dip in and out or avoid drama from any sort of hassle. But then a lot of people in this scene hop on whoever is popular, you can be 2/10 but if you're a bit well known, it can help. Then again, once you fuck up it'll probably be hard to frequent a spot you'd like to

I find befriending people and getting clout keeps you OUT of trouble
As long as YOU don't cause it.
If you're taking about your life, venting, giving people ammunition on you and also doing shit like pumping and dumping regulars then yeah you're fucking yourself over
As long as you're not talking about your life much at all, being the cool guy everyone thinks you are, and treating your lays with dignity and being honest with them (such that they don't find out the truth later) that they are not gonna be dicking you over
I have like 5 regulars I've fucked and none of them cause me problems. 3 are exes and they love me. Because I handled shit as well as I could even after initially losing frame with two of them when I dumped them (broke plate whatever you want to call it)
I didn't pump and dump anyone and I don't fuck women I'm not genuinely into
I avoid a lot of problems most players get hit by because I'm fucking like one but not acting like one
The social clout etc really actual helps if you're not fucking yourself with the unlubricated dildo of consequences

Agree with Vermillion.
I've started resurfacing occasionally in bars. Used to be a bit of a barfly in my early 20s ; relationships/work etc and now since finding TRP, I go out maybe once a month or so.
Being cordial, friendly, yet assertive is the best action. On Saturday went into a hotel bar/cafe. 3 $10 dollar notes dropped out of my pocket and the barista came over picked them up in front of me and put them on my table ; I said thank you and asked sorry do you have a pen to write and she gave me one, I order one beer and I hear 10 minutes later her asking to borrow the bartender's pen. I offered it back to her ; no, no etc. As I left I went to the barista and gave her $10 and said I'd be down $30 without you ; hope it can go to something fun (or share it with the guys) and the handed my glass to the bartender. ''Thank you, have a great night sir,'' etc. I won't go in there again probably for a few weeks but it'll be interesting to see if they remember me ; and even if they don't! Abundance mentality.
I wouldn't have done that if the staff didn't even look me in the eyes or were polite.
The thing about being a regular in a bar/cafe is often the regulars, not all, but like a bar/nightclub ; you'll pigeon hole yourself a bit as the guy that is always there and always on his own too! Again, do what you want . But I think you'll get bored and often you'll end up seeing the same faces coming in, and whilst its great being nice and polite to people - and even make some new pals who are interesting - if you're too nice ; you'll end up having to engage with a lot of pointless chat as well or you'll be seen as the stand off ish/aloof type to the staff and regulars.
One of the best things you can do though is go out on your own. Especially a wild weekend night in a party city. You WILL get shit tested at some point from either men or women and if you are prone to anxiety, self-esteem, depression etc then maybe the first time some bitch (who you have no idea what is going on her life) says something almost nasty to you ; laugh it off. Same with men, don't start fights but stick your ground to an extent. I find the best way to pass or even stop shit tests is improving posture and decision making ; but don't look so stoic doing it a mix of polite smile.
Vermillion is right. You'll start filtering out to who you want to fuck and who you don't. There are a lot of awkward, desperate people who go bar hopping. Not always correct, but often you'll just 'know' who not to even attempt to fuck by their behaviour especially when drunk! So its a good way of separating the wheat from the chaff, but not fool proof at all. Bar game can be fun ; and as someone still finding their way it was eye-opening and a great way to build up confidence slowly and will put you in unpredictable circumstances which are all great for your development overall as a man.
Being a player to me would be exhausting. I have no time for bullshit, and in a small city you'll run the risk of meeting plates with other plates or ex-girlfriends, colleagues etc. As hard sometimes as it is to read people, if within 10 mins your brain is telling you this chic seems a bit nuts/weird - she probably will be - and no matter how good looking she is ; she ain't worth it. It might even be the best-looking girl you could potentially get with ; but its not worth it unless you're traveling and 100% sure you'll never see them again.
Go enjoy yourself and it'll tone your communication skills. You'll meet all sorts of people. I find being nice to the barstaff and bouncers, can help you and the bouncers are often great fun to talk to. I was talking to one on Saturday and he said to me ''drunk women are 90% of the time idiots," haha.

Just be friendly and polite to everyone. Everyone hates those people that are friendly ONLY to people that they want something from.

"I like to be relatively unknown.."
Trust me, you are. nearly everyone is. We all think we are more noticeable than we are. It's 'main character' syndrome.

When it comes to places like this you can actually end up not being capable of being unknown
I can't walk 20 feet at my place without some kind of engagement with someone, including randoms
I have to sit in my special dark corner there or go on the roof to have a moment of peace there
It's possible to end up in this situation where people actually are paying too much attention to you instead of themselves, but OP wants it both ways. Having a reputation without being known.
Better to just be known but entirely avoiding doing or saying, or responding to anything that could produce drama. You can be well known and also keep your mouth shut.

Social credit is worth a lot.

I don't see why it would hurt. Social proof is helpful.

It really depends on the people. I've had life-long friends that I would hang out with exclusively at a bar+grill, go to parties, etc.

Social proof works.
How would you perceive the regular at a reputable nightclub, versus the regular at the greasy bar down the street?
If you’re going to participate in the nightlife, befriending others is a great way to get rid some of the bullshit.
I get to know the bouncers and others working the line-up into the club so I could potentially slide in without getting the whole “Sorry you need reservations” treatment other groups of guys do. I chat up the barmaids and tip generously, so that when the club is packed and I want to buy a girl a drink I don’t need to wait and wave my hands around like the other plebs.
People will notice you if you are by the DJ’s booth, at least where I frequent.
But at the end of the night, this just solved like 10% of the game.
