hello brothers. my new workplace is female dominated, and i've met a guy that i figured i should befriend and stick together with. turns out he's gay and i might've sent him mixed signals; i'm from another country and we don't really have lgbt there. he's a nice enough guy and i could use a friend at the new place, but i think i got his hopes up by inviting him to hang out, and i'm afraid he'll get mad at me. how do i deal with this situation and not lose a potential friend? i know being legit friends with women is (nigh) impossible because of nature - is it the same when there's a hetero male and a homosexual one?

female and gay male dominated workplace. 26 females and 4 flaming gay males at my admin meeting. i treat gay guys like guys guys moreso than i'd treat a guy like a guys guy. "Hey bro whats up? Yeah I was working on my bike last night. Single banger 650cc. It's a little small for me but it was my first bike." They usually don't want any of that and break off to clique up with the women. Sometimes I'll make gay friends but generally they are alpha gays and openly attracted to me and I can say things like "back off gay man" etc

This. Do what women do when they are not interested but do it so politly. Talk about guy-guy stuff, keep it professional, minimal eye contact. Always have something different 'planned' when asked about to go out for drinks and the like. If he is still coming off strong - an 'I do like women exclusively' is enough to convey a message.

Same way girls drop hints they aren't interested. Mention a girl you're into or something, or going on a date with a girl or really anything that indicates you're heterosexual. Then proceed to hangout like normal unless a stronger correction is needed.

I don't even hang out with males from work. Probably should stick to group encounters instead of one on ones with him.
Other users gave better advice here. I've turned down gay guys before, it happens. They're human too and have needs, they'll shoot their shot on straight men just because. A simple "sorry I'm only into women" is good enough when they say they're into you.
I mean they know. They're gay when almost everyone else is straight. They don't take offense, they know how it works
