Majority of the world's population do not follow any moral compass they preach about otherwise the world wouldn't need a police force or courts. Everyone has their own vices. In their own friends circle they show that side to some limited extent.
Online, however you will find them preaching about things like everything is black and white. Pretending to be goody two shoes who haven't committed a sin ever. The moral compass they portray online will always be the one that's accepted by their peers. But they never follow the moral compass they preach about.
These are not limited to insta or Twitter but also in any anonymous online forums to even the YouTube comment section.
Why is it that people never show their true side online and pretend to be like Gandhi online?
I know this isn't a dating question but actually this would help me in the social game.
Edit: this is not limited to girls. I am talking about guys too.

Social credit.
Look, it's obvious.... people say shit to make them look better because it makes them LOOK BETTER.

Keep in mind everybody is looking out for their own best interests. Sometimes your interests and their interests come into conflict. Also keep in mind that we have an irrational profit motive that makes people do things they shouldn't or aren't in the best interests of themselves and others.
Take religion, for example. In the frontier days, you'd move to a remote town and in order to be accepted by the community you had to go to their church and pretend to believe in an omnipotent, omnipresent super-being... sing silly songs... listen to sermons... etc. Just do what you gotta do to get by. When in Rome...
