When I first found TRP the gym became my church. For about 8 months now I go to the gym 6 days a week, anywhere from 1-2 hours following a PPL split.
I fucking love it. It’s the best part of my day and body and lifts are improving. Rain, sleet or snow im there and even am considered a regular and am cool with the owner. But people started pointing out that I’m going a lot, suggesting it’s too much. They make it seem like I’m coping or using it as some sort of vice, which I guess I am.
Is this even a concern? Is this crabs in a bucket shit or am I legitimately using the gym as some sort of coping mechanism?

NexusReflexX 4y ago
Shit, if only everyone used the gym as their vice. Being addicted to the gym, while yes there could be some deep rooted issues there, is not as harmful as being addicted to other things, like girls, video games, a drink after work, heroin.
Those people who say u go too much just wish they had the drive to do the same.
shittyfuckdick 4y ago
If I could get girls I’d probably be addicted to them too
NexusReflexX 4y ago
At first maybe, until u realize they ain't shit
SeasonedRP 2 4y ago
It depends what your goals are. Don't let other people influence that. If you are making progress on your current training program and your life is otherwise in check, I don't see why you'd want to change anything.

Get big and strong and look good naked
elliot6440 4y ago
They literally teach you to go to the gym when you face trauma, I would know I have PTSD. PTSD is legit the ultimate way of learning to 'recope' with things. Its the healthiest way to deal with things. Its not about avoiding/coping but its about the dopamine and other factors about physical and mental improvement.
Maybe you talk about the gym to much. I have had situations where people get annoyed about me talking about it. But those people I pushed out anyway. Flex yourself and feel good about your improvements. I have a guy/girl mates who sends me weekly physical updates and me vise versa. We talk about routines and different ways we can smash the gym harder.
Only negative thing I could think of is make sure you take a rest day, get enough sleep which if you're gyming alot will happen on its own I hope. Also vitamins / protein so you can recover nicely (this is kind of a push though as its not exactly needed). Also as long as you're not taking steroids or something, than my advise would be to go crazy with it.
These people could also be coping with the fact that you're bigger/stronger than them. I had mates when I was large/fat and did not lift that I remember walking up to and saying "I will be stronger and larger physically than you in xyz time". Guess what. I am.. Yeah I probs should not have done that, they laughed at the time. But now I gym with these guys too and we spot eachother.
-Skizzy 4y ago
Damn wish I had friends like that around here
shittyfuckdick 4y ago
I went through a bad breakup and have been incredibly lonely since. I feel like the gym is my outlet from getting away from that.
321gumby 4y ago
The gym is a great way to fix your mental health after a breakup. I love the gym too and make it a point to be friendly and connect to the regulars. Crabs in a bucket.. You could be jerking off and playing video games all day....
elliot6440 4y ago
I am 6months out from my breakup which I thought was going to kill me at the time. Trust me, it is not now. My ex did not even gym herself, so I was grinding myself physically and mentally for someone who smoked up and sat around. Seen her recently and I look 10x better than she does, took a few months to realize though.
Trust me. Gyming and going out with friends is the key.
Infact. Learn how to be able to go to bars/outings and not drink, then not only do you look better infront of your friends who put you down but women love it too (which I recommend talking to as many as you can and building your confidence again since that breakup). Me and my real brothers do it, we are all big lads and honestly you get to a point where your friends get drunk and you "clean up". I have noticed women find nothing more attractive then a guy in control. Plus not drinking improves your gains.
Pregyming these bar time with friends so you look like you're about to rip down a house is a pet peeve of my friends. But they learnt to deal with it because they know its how I feel good, look good and in turn makes me happier. I can tell the benifits and so can they when they have seen me and I have not gymed for a few days because an injury haha!
You'll get through it. Pump it up.
shittyfuckdick 4y ago
Bro 8 months out from my breakup. No friends, no girls, nothing. I look better, my lifts are better, but that’s it. Glad you had success but not everyone is so lucky. I like the not drinking tip though, since I don’t really like alcohol anyway.
elliot6440 4y ago
Does your gym have classes? Even if its spinning and full of women. Sign up to it. If I got into your place. That is what I would do.
Or another thing would be, stick to the same time of gyming and just keep an eye out for someone on the same routine as you. Then just make convos with them. Its going to be awkward. But if you keep it short you can build on it in time. It could take a few weeks. Even with a simple shrug everytime you see them until you finally speak.
The key is to meet a bro too. Its always going to be awkward but I would suggest just being open to saying it. Could even ask someone if they fancy spotting you and vice versa one day. Tell them you're new to the area and if they no any place to grab some cheat day portions (even if you're not).
shittyfuckdick 4y ago
Nah my gyms a small powerlifting/bodybuilding kinda gym. No classes. I make small talk cause I’m sort of a regular. But yea my social skills are shit but will work on it.
Been looking out for some yoga classes or something though.
ibwriting 4y ago
If anything in the world I wish for more people to understand this. Trauma is probably the best thing in the long run that can happen to a man.
riksi 4y ago
Yeah, no. There are levels in trauma and levels of recovery. Try getting a lifetime personality/mental disorder from trauma and have fun managing it.
elliot6440 4y ago
It depends on the trauma. I can agree with this statement for 99.9% only because I can only imagine what some severe trauma worse than mine could do to someone. You need a good head on your shoulders to bounce back too.
e36masterrace 4y ago
Go in accordance with how much your body can handle - overtraining is a real thing. The all in motivational crap that you must always give 101% of yourself in every training session are bullshit and you must take what you can handle.
I make my training sessions at 60-70% of my max potential, otherwise I feel like total trash, no mood for the next 2 days (literally none), no sex drive nothing. And the only time I feel good is if I don't train or train less. I don't think this is normal but I haven't checked myself properly yet, but you get the point. You can overtrain just don't let that happen.

In Los Angeles county gyms only opened up 2 months ago. Were closed for a full year until we had all the vaccination rollouts.

Ontario (province) has had the most days under lockdown in the world. Yes it is an absolute joke, with both the provincial and federal government to blame
Fine_Cut 4y ago
We were letting a bunch of planes from India land over the last year because our current elected party relies on foreigner votes as a large percentage of their voter base. This combined with living too close to a nation who's 'fake virus' rhetoric leaked into our culture - we don't have the infrastructure to deal with all the medical problems, so we had to close down.
isthisalreadyused 4y ago
I’m from the Greater Toronto Area and no they haven’t been closed that whole time. They reopened July 2020 until about November, closed again, reopened in Feb 2021, and closed yet again about 6 weeks later. Still closed because Doug Ford is an absolute coward and an obese fucking clown. The city of Toronto dealt with more closures but it was still open for a bit in that timeframe
yellowsquare1980 4y ago
Yeah I think toronto was closed longer. In any case they’ve been mostly closed. It’s a privilege and I fucking hate our government.

Read Convict Conditioning. Calisthenics got me JACKED just on lunch break when I had enough time to go to the park but not enough time to go to the gym. If the martial arts academy I train at didn't have weights, I wouldn't ever lift weights anymore. A gym membership is unnecessary. Now that gyms are closed where I'm at too, The Gain Train continues to roll.
isthisalreadyused 4y ago
I’ve definitely made some progress at home with just a pair of 25lbs dumbbells. High reps, short rest, giant sets, drop sets, burnouts, etc. If you get creative and work hard you can at least make a bit of progress.
If you wanna take it to the next level you absolutely need heavy weights
redditSucksNow2020 4y ago
I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. Not much substitute for deadlifts and squats past a certain point but I have not very very few people who have nothing more to gain from push-up pull up handstand pushup and leg lift progressions. For that matter, I've met few people who can do a proper pistol squat either.
isthisalreadyused 4y ago
I think we mostly agree with each other. You can build a great body doing what you suggest. However if you want to get that freaky 235lb 10% bf bodybuilder physique you need heavy weights (and gear).
redditSucksNow2020 4y ago
fair enough. Im definitly nowhere near 235lb. haha

Resident_Night8107 4y ago
Crabs in a bucket dude. I deal with the same thing and I only go 4 days a week, but I’m also active in martial arts the other 3 days. People will often use you as a mirror for themselves and your dedication, ambition, and drive might be making them self conscious. I recognize that I have an addictive personality so I’ve traded out my unhealthy addictions for healthy productive ones and I see no shame in that. The only instance of going to the gym “too much” would be when it starts to affect your recovery therefore getting in the way of YOUR OWN goals. Keep up the hard work!

gyms are closed where I live so I’m just shadow boxing in my small apartment. There’s really something about training in a group at the gym cos right now, being locked up and alone kinda threw out whatever motivation I have left.
BigBodyLikeaLineman 4y ago
Maybe train with gymnastic rings (Calisthenics )?
redditSucksNow2020 4y ago
Definitely cannot replace the group atmosphere but habitual a training in a group has made it a lot easier than it otherwise would be to maintain the habit of working out even though there's no group.
I highly recommend you download and read a book called Convict Conditioning. That is what got me started in calisthenics two years ago and 90% of what I do is still exactly as that book prescribed. Calisthenics is how I got in shape for my last two fights because I would have enough time during lunch break to go to the park for Sprint's and calisthenics but not nearly enough time to go to a proper gym and pump iron. Now that I am locked down as well, calisthenics is how I'm maintaining my strength until the gym opens up again

Go ahead, bring up my insecurities to distract from the fact that you lie about being a pro fighter to make yourself feel better online. You haven't the prettiest post history either but I won't stoop to that level.
I called you out because being a pro fighter or a bjj purple belt (both of which you lied about) takes years of dedication, grit, and sacrifice. People like yourself lying about being a professional fighter to get validation on reddit have no respect for what it takes to become one.

Pretty much me too, I do bjj 3-4x a week and go to the gym on my off days. hehe. What rank are you for bjj? I'm just about to get my blue belt in July!
redditSucksNow2020 4y ago
I got three stripes on my purple belt. Been at it off and on for about 12 years but I oh my god really serious and really consistent with it about 3 years back. Took me eight or nine years get my blue but only two to get my purple and that was a year ago
skriker123 4y ago
Damn, you're a killer. Whenever I am up against a purple I just die. Good stuff mate, much respect to you for keeping at it for so long where I have seen so many quit in a short period of time.
redditSucksNow2020 4y ago
To keep at it past blue belts, you have to no longer really give a damn about belt promotions. The section of road from Blue to purple is just too long to even bear thinking about. The people who get to purple don't even really think about it. We just keep showing up because we love to train. I was genuinely surprised when I got promoted from Blue to purple. I didn't expect it for at least another year or two.
skriker123 4y ago
Oh nice, yeah I expected that. I was only going to focus on getting the stripes one at a time. But that doesn't really matter to me as I do love training and I've been pretty much one of the more consistent guys in class which has shown within my progress. It's all about enjoying the journey and not the end goal which is what I've noticed.

You don't need a 6 days ppl.
Prefer 3 day ppl and the other 3 days working on GPP and cardio/endurance.
Starting caring for your overall health not just muscles and strength.
shittyfuckdick 4y ago
I do though. I eat healthy and I go for long walks everyday. I also stretch and meditate.
Once I more satisfied with my physique I’ll probably cut down to a 4 day split or something.
Sin-Silver 4y ago
The gym is definitely beneficial to you, no doubt, however, you need to be the judge on whether or not you need to be spending more time wisely.
If your struggling to pick up girls, but you already have the body of an Adonis, then you probebly need to focus on your sense of style, conversation skills, etc, rather than your bulk or physique.
Similarly, if your in debt, or are struggling with work/university, then the gym isn't going to help you beyond improving your physical and mental well being.

As long as you are taking care of yourself (and not causing rpm or over use injuries), good on you.
I have had a few low end people (aka excuse making p*ssies) say shit like that.
Im not a great example of physical specimens but I do more to take care of myself than many people. I run at lunch breaks and go to the gym nearly 5-6 days a week. (outside of illness).
I have made an argument that the gym is called "The Church of The Iron Bar". It is good for the body and the mental wellbeing. Booze didnt do that for me. I found healthier people at the Church of The Iron Bar more than the actual bar.
Illustrious-Bank5 4y ago
Everyone has something they are super addicted to. Better be a gym regime than pot.
i-am-the-prize 4y ago
ignore them. they simply are shamed by your ability to execute and act.
even if you are 'addicted' to the gym, good. being addicted to something/somewhere which provides positive feedback and self-reinforcing benefits is a dream addiction. do deload. do not get hurt. you'll be in a bad spot if you are injured, that's the downside of your addiction. so learn to take breaks.
iateadonut 4y ago
Not only is it a good way to deal with stress, but it is also a good thing to do with your testosterone.
Going to the gym too much is a thing... but only if it's increasing your distress or decreasing your testosterone. I wouldn't worry about it otherwise.
Maybe people are telling you that you talk about the gym too much.
KirthWGersen 4y ago
As addictions go, it is far from the worst.
Better than spending the same amount of time watching porn or drinking in a bar.

Out0fC0nt3xt 4y ago
Absolutely nothing wrong with using the gym as a coping mechanism or "vice" (it's not a vice. Drugs, alcohol, and video games are vices). With that said, 6 days sounds like a lot to me as a powerlifter. You likely have some mild chronic fatigue going on that you don't notice. I speak from experience, as I used to train like a bodybuilder with a 6 day PPL split. It's probably not optimal for strength progression, but if hypertrophy is your goal, you're not always making yourself sore and fatigued, and you enjoy it, knock yourself out.
shittyfuckdick 4y ago
The routines actually a bit of powerlifting and hypertrophy. But yea I can recover just fine. What’s mild chronic fatigue?
Out0fC0nt3xt 4y ago
Deadlift and squat are both very taxing lifts, especially deadlift. If you're going heavy (doing simple progressive overload + grinding or similar), that's 4 days out of your week you spend doing taxing lifts. Even if you're not sore, your body isn't fully recovering from that. That's mild chronic fatigue. You won't be sore, but it'll be just bad enough to reduce your overall work capacity. Periodization is important. Within each week, I'd recommend you have a lighter day for a lift and a heavier day. On top of that, do roughly 6 week cycles where you spend the first 4 weeks training volume/hypertrophy, slowly increasing it. Then in weeks 4 and 5, transition into high weight low reps. In week 6, hit some new PRs.
I picked up that general training framework from a friend a few months ago and it changed my life. I broke through plateaus in all my lifts that I'd had for over a year (started lifting 2017). Bench went from 275 touch and go to 315 paused in one period. Squat from 385 to 435. Deadlift from 495 to 515 (I had bad form on this and I could have done more on top of that). You're likely stronger than you think, but mild fatigue holds you back.
Gackt 4y ago
What's "PR"? I don't recall... and that will be hard to google.
Out0fC0nt3xt 4y ago
PR = "personal record"
Gackt 4y ago
Thank you.
Mr_Flim_Flam 4y ago
Would you recommend that kind of periodization for some one who’s just got back into lifting again? Asking as I was a solid gym goer, of about 6 months, before covid. Lost all my gains, but started back 2 weeks ago on the stronglifts program 5 days a week. Was looking to change back into PPL 5 days a week on my upcoming third week.
Out0fC0nt3xt 4y ago
I'd recommemd staying on the 5x5 program to get back into things, then once you're ready, switching to a program where you have a push and pull workout three times a week, and a squat/deadlift workout twice a week. My workout schedule looks like this:
Monday/Friday: Squats, then deadlifts, then an accessory or two. Friday is the heavier day.
Tuesday/Thursday/Sunday: Bench press, getting progressively harder each day. Accessories include one bench variation, usually incline dumbbell press, one rowing variation, often chest-assisted, pull-ups, and tricep pushdowns.
As for volume, in weeks 1-4 I recommend working your way up from doing around sets of 10 at around 65% of your 1rm on each lift, to doing around 7-8 doubles with 85% of your 1rm. In weeks 5-6 you shift gears into something like 3x3 with 90+% of your 1rm. Doing light weight in the early weeks will feel stupid but I swear by it.
Deadlifts are kind of a special case. Instead of going by percentages, go by RPE. Leave 4 reps in the tank your first week and leave 2 reps in the tank by week 4. Then you can push past RPE 8 in the last two weeks, leaving less than 2 reps in the tank. I also very rarely do sets of more than 5 reps with deadlifts. Sets of 10 will kill you and hurt your bench press, etc.
If you want more rigid training programming, most powerlifting programs like candito will have you do similar stuff. Powerbuilding programs like VitruvianPhysique's Hybrid5 program also have periodization built in. I was on Hybrid5 for a while, I enjoyed it.
coolsocks0 4y ago
Might get his take on that too but i will say that, especially when starting out again, 5 days a week is a lot, depending on the program.
If you lifted for 6 months you are still a beginner (which is great).
If we're talking about the same program then Stronglifts 5x5 is a 3 days a week program with compound lifts to maximise gains in the early stages of your development. You should not do these lifts 5 days a week, you will only hinder your gains. Seriously. Rest and eating/sleeping well is extremely important, but you should stay active, i.e. do some light cardio or martial arts, stretches or whatever.
You can keep doing this program until you hit serious walls on your lifts. Once you hit hard plateaus, and you're sure you eating enough, then you can look at other programs. Dont do bodybuilding programs, they're only great if you're on steroids imo.
I remember doing the Candito 6 Week Strength Program for a good while and it was a perfect next step, with great periodization. It's free on his website and comes with instructions. Just put your numbers in and you're good to go.
Out0fC0nt3xt 4y ago
OP, I second this^ I'd recommend stronglift 5x5 as a three day a week program to get up to speed, and then if you want to hammer at the gym, get on candito or Hybrid5.
GambinosDisciple 4y ago
If you want to maximize gains you should have 1-2 rest days were you either do not go to the gym, or just do some light cardio. Also, if you're spending more than 3 hours in the gym, you're either slacking off, or doing the most. I'd recommend doing 12-20 sets a week for each muscle group, hitting each muscle group 2x a week. Obviously try to eat clean foods, get 1g of protein per lb of body weight, eat 4-6x a day, and stay in a calorie surplus or deficit depending of your objective. I divide my calories in 60%C, 25 P, 15%F, carbs are key man never cut them out no matter the time or whatever.
Using the gym as a coping mechanism is ok, but I personally don't think is worth over training and leaving gains in the table even for the sake of coping. Progress should be your coping vehicle, try to progress on most aspects, financially, mentally, socially, etc. not just physically. Read books, study philosophy, create multiple streams of income (legally), aspire to be more virtous; these things will also help you cope.
Hope this helps, keep the gains going.

[deleted] 4y ago
Do you know how many times I've heard this? Of course we're using it as coping mechanism. We put heavy shit up and down to deal with our misfortunes. I go every day 7 days a week, also got into boxing and mma so will be splitting my time to avoid fatigue.
But crabs in a bucket.
hulkphd 4y ago
If you're training properly you can make ample progress on a 4 day split.
aer95 4y ago
People that say that are just wishing they had the motivation to keep up with their health and looks. I’ve been off work for a little over a month now and I’ve been basically hitting the gym or running everyday and I love it. I wish I had the time to go this much normally. Even if you are using it as a coping mechanism it’s probably the best one there is because it’s a self improving habit and not a bad one
TheSmile_10 4y ago
No you are good. If you start to get ill easily or have other physical problems then do a deload for a couple of weeks.
Now, as an ex elite powerlifter I would recommend 1-2 weeks COMPLETELY off training every 3-4 months. This is if you lift heavy weights and train intensly, you can still do light cardio during these periods.
thegreyone3000 4y ago
Depends on the person. If you’re doing more than 90 minutes 6 days a week just for the sake of it then you need to have a word with yourself.
If it’s for a purpose, like you’re training for some type of sport or event then go for it.
What I mean by “the sake of it” is purely for vanity reasons basically, as in to “look good” because honestly? You can look better than 90% of guys just from 40 minutes 3-4 days per week. Remember, diet is more important than exercise when it comes to looks.

You're improving your health and appearance while enjoying it.
Hearing "too much gym" makes as much sense as breathing air that's "too clean".
BranchCovidianZealot 4y ago
I had a friend mock me for turning down a beer once. Asked if I was "turning into a good little boy now or what". This coming from a dude who drinks a 12-pack a day and has self-induced diabetes and bitch-tits. Well sorry if I actually care about my health and wanna take a break from drinking sometimes. Christ.
hellotbar1010 4y ago
I take it you guys aren't friends anymore?
marowitt 4y ago
Crabs in a bucket shit.
They don't have what it takes to do it themselves.
6 days might be a bit to much for your body, but as long as you feel rested and keep seeing progress keep it up.
As long as it doesn't eat up so much time that you start to see you're losing control of other things in your life you're doing fine.
Some people meditate, some go to church, you go to the gym.
Welcome to the real men club, fuck what ever those weaklings say.
Whisper Moderator 4y ago
Do your joints hurt a lot?
No?
Then you aren't lifting too much.
Efficient_Film_149 4y ago
Crabs. Realistically could be a thing, could be spinning your wheels if not resting properly.
catz123456 4y ago
Some people use it to cope but they're not usually the ones making progress. They're usually the ones with deeper issues/go to get away. Progress is the driving factor and the fact you're making progress makes it the best part of your day. Nothing wrong with that as long as you have some kind of balance in the rest of your life going.
shittyfuckdick 4y ago
What do you mean by balance? Tbh I don’t have much else in my life. Just the gym. I use it as escape from the loneliness.
InterwebBadass 4y ago
That might be the only problem.
There's nothing wrong with getting a lot to the gym. But there's also other aspects to life : Do you fortify your mind in any way : meditation, reading (the side bar is full of worthy books) ? What about your social circle : Do you have high quality people around you and do you progress in the direction you want ? What about money and your professionnal life ?
The gym isn't the problem in any case. Nor should you care about the opinion of others but there's definitely other important aspects to life that you can't neglect. You can use the confidence and inner strenght that the gym gives you, and the same willpower you have already demonstrated, to better any part of your life you wish.
shittyfuckdick 4y ago
I meditate and read. I have a great career that’s on track for getting even better and will make very good money. The only thing is I’m incredibly alone. Literally one friend and no social life.
catz123456 4y ago
Then you're on the verge of coping although progressing which is good. You should be improving across the board not just physique. That's only one piece of the puzzle. Balance means social game, hobbies, career, and just having other people in your life.
shittyfuckdick 4y ago
Improving in everything but social game. That parts been absolutely destroying me mentally
coolsocks0 4y ago
A good social life doesnt come on its own. Takes time and real effort. Requires you to go out of your comfort zone many times. There's a lot of us that are working on this, playing the long game, so you're not alone.
isthisalreadyused 4y ago
Bro I was in the same boat. I decided I was going to get real good at daygaming. Starting doing that - even in lockdown during a cold Toronto winter there are still spots downtown to game. Found a Telegram/WhatsApp group of other local guys doing the same thing. Joined, met some of them and eventually ended up progressing a lot with pickup and making some real friends as well. Social life is better than ever. Try this you will not regret it.
Having a good social life is one of the keys to happiness
shittyfuckdick 4y ago
How did you meet guys like that?
isthisalreadyused 4y ago
I started here: https://www.gameglobal.net/groups/
Looks like there is a group for every major city worldwide. There’s a Facebook and Telegram group to join on that page with local dudes wanting find wings. For there you’ll be invited to other groups. I’m lucky because there seems to be a big community doing this in Toronto but as long as you’re not in some podunk town you’ll find something.
You won’t like everybody there but are some real cool people you’ll eventually meet. It’s worth it dude give it a shot
shittyfuckdick 4y ago
Thanks brother. Looks like my city has one
isthisalreadyused 4y ago
Good luck bro
TheGreatestSpice 4y ago
People who are jealous of successful people will always try to put them down and gaslight them. I get the same and I just tell them they should go to the gym more
kellykebab 4y ago
How would other people know if it's a "coping mechanism" better than you? Especially when we don't know very many details of your life.
Do you think it's a coping mechanism?
Even if it is, who cares? Literally everything is a coping mechanism to some degree to avoid just sitting around thinking about death. Unless you're going to the gym so much that it's interfering with other activities that you want to do or you're getting injured, I can't imagine why this would be a problem.
Don't psychoanalyze yourself into a neurotic mess when there isn't actually a problem. And certainly not because of other people's uninformed opinions.
_-resonance-_ 4y ago
Haha going to the gym too much. Just don’t undereat.
cj802 4y ago
gym is healthy, gym is good, but you can have too much of a good thing.
If you lacking behind in other aspects of your life, like most importantly wealth; but also lifestyle, social circle, family. You might want to reduce it.
3 or even 2 split HIT or cycle training (3-2x a week) @ 45-60min / session is enough if its just a hobby. If you just want to keep in shape , once a week HIT / circle training , full body workout is enough.
If you realy love then keep your schedule, but never neglet wealth & social circle, its not worth it. Only if you re a person trainer or a professional athlete of course.
Its also very Taxing for the Mind.
Had the same issue not recognizing it, was going 3x week gym & MMA & some sprint interval training, for like 6 years.
had only little time left for everything else but i loved it.
So after recognizing this hunch, i reduced to 1x week gym & Sprints (stopped MMA) and my life improved like at least 100x especialy lovelife and social circle but also my grades at university.
So yeah it realy depends. 3x week , HIT split traing @ 1h is more then enough if You want to spend more time on ther things.
& like previously mentioned if you re already in gpod shape and want to change your main focus on wealth or else, 1x week full body high intensity (interval) (or cicle) workout is more then enough to keep in shape, of course you will sacrifice gainz.
Good luck
shittyfuckdick 4y ago
The only thing I’m lacking in is my social life. I have absolutely no social life so I guess the gym is a way I deal with that
cj802 4y ago
Wealth is top priority, if you lack only on social circle, you dont need to reduce gym hours drasticaly.
maybe make some buddies in the gym, or join group training programms if you can find like strenght training, kettlebells or whatever fits in the philosophy of strenght traing, you may find some like minded hot /thic women in these groups. But in groups you "befriend" the guys first, it shows high social status, then you "befriend" the girls.
then with time you find friends of friends of friends you may like and expand your social circle. It' s like building muscles it takes time and efford.
ClickKlakk 4y ago
I’ve been through this. They just feel bad at the mere thought of how much you work out and how much they slack. Ignore it. Laugh at it.
RedEyeBlackEye1 4y ago
Haters gonna hate, it's what they do.
As long as:
1) you don't think you're going too much.
2) you are seeing MAJOR self Improvement with your physique.
3) you are seeing MAJOR Improvement in how these hoes treat/respond to your presence.
4) you are seeing MAJOR Improvement in your strength(speed? power?).
Than the answer is no, you're not going too much. It's more like motherfuckers on some insecure, jealous, hater-time.
Edit: just 4 sticking points to self reflect(internally) on, homie.
jb3617 4y ago
Great points. I'd also like to add that it should be done solely because YOU want to do it.
If you're doing it for validation, then you're just wasting your time.
beefstockcube 4y ago
Herion, weed, booze, food - all things you can have too much of.

Self-improvement ie: the Gym providing your body recovers is fine.
mern55 4y ago
there are basicaly 2options:
1 You talk about it constantly and its annoying
2 you're doing a good job and people feel insecure
as someone who's been a into martial arts and a gym rat for over a decade i've seen many examples or eatch...the #1 guys are the worst as the conversation often goes somehing like this: "what a nice day ain't it?" "i bench 120" "did you see that new movie?" "let me show you how you need to do your uppercut" "wanna go talk to those chicks over there?" "wanna see my shirtless pics?" gives up and walks away
whats worse is that its always the rookies that do that.
Kenchikka00 4y ago
i‘m a weightlifter and i do bodybuilding on the side. the gym is a place to socialise with a second family. i know everyone. out of the 18 hours i spend there every week, 6 are probably wasted talking
athrowaway-9001 4y ago
All crabs in a bucket.
People are resistant to change and especially so when you are no longer the vision of the person they have in their head of you. They want everybody in their head to be filed neatly in a cabinet in their head and when something is out of place-- they will say something.
Carry on with your self improving hobby and ignore the neigh sayers.
1tayg3r 4y ago
Stop giving a fuck about what they think
MattyAnon Admin 4y ago
Crabs in a bucket. 6-12 hours a week is fine.
boy_named_su 4y ago
stop talking about how much you go to the gym, and people will stop complaining
UEMcGill 4y ago
Of course you are. I couldn't think of a better way to cope with life than praying at the iron temple. Why wouldn't you use the gym as a coping mechanism?
When people say stuff like this it's a reflection of their choices and what they want to feel. There's a lady in my neighborhood who is probably a text book case of Orthorexia. She'll literally bring weights to kids sports games and do lunges and shit. Now I could walk over to her and lay some bro-science on her and talk about her Macros or how she isn't lifting heavy enough because she's skinny-fat, but in her eyes she already feels superior to me and would scoff at any of my suggestions. Plus the only one I'd be trying to benefit is me because I needed some reason to either make her feel bad for what she's doing or make myself feel better for it. In the end she would double down on her stance, and think I was an asshole.
Don_Draper27 4y ago
I think it's nearly impossible to not have any obsessions / habits. You can live like the Buddha, but then you can argue that he had meditation and mindfulness.
This is why it's suggested to replace bad habits with good ones. Replace porn with gym, replace cigarettes with meditation, etc.
The only thing you should be listening to is your body. Just as long as your nutrition is on point and you aren't creating any muscle imbalances, you're good.
midgetpooooo 4y ago
You have to make sure you get rest and if you're eating a lot then to not overstress your liver which is more important than your muscles.
bumbuff 4y ago
1) They're projecting their insecurities onto you. You do you so long as you think you're doing it right.
2) Crabs in a bucket
3) Lifting is a known coping mechanism for a lot of reasons - including coping with the regret of past bad choices.
mrsmiley831 4y ago
Just remember to take a deload week once in awhile. I'm in the same boat as you, totally addicted to going to the gym. I have worked out 9 days in a row and still don't want to take a rest day. I have to force myself to take rest days. Mind you I'm on gear, so YMMV.
TheOffice_Account 4y ago
Would they prefer that you use alcohol? Nicotine? Something else?
SMH. People are just jealous, bro. Just keep doing your shit.

90% of the time its crabs in a bucket, but 10% of the time, there is merit to limiting gym hours- time efficiency
Rest
It is so important guys. Recharge with some downtime, let your body repair, take a break sometimes.
You are not building muscle when you are ripping them apart at the gym, or when you are eating beef. You are getting stronger when your body is in rest and repair mode, in a deep state of recovery.
I used to do PPL or fullbody and really push it 3x a week. Any more than that and you're gonna see significant diminishing returns. So much so, that it didn't make much sense to come in the other 4 days of the week.
If you feel you still have room to gain / some extra time, go for it. Otherwise, use your time more wisely.
Rest is critical.
