I already know the general concensus, but I kinda wanted to more share my thoughts and get opinions back.
Obviously lifting is a positive no matter what. It is something that should be done in some form no matter what. There is a quasi mantra here on TRP saying that lifting alone can get you into the top 20% or practically there. I don't think that's true.
That would assume that skinny-fat is an inherently negative trait when it isn't. Skinny-fat is only bad if the rest of your physical traits cannot make you look like a man. If are 6'2" with a decent face/jaw and broad shoulders then I don't think skinny-fat holds you back. It certainly holds you back relative to lifting, but it in and of itself isn't HURTING you the way that fat-fat would be.
I don't think that lifting alone can get you into the top 20% because most guys aren't obese-just skinny-fat. Lifting will get you into the top half pretty much instantly, but not always top 20%. I think that belief about lifting is actually extremely BP. It assumes that everyone is capable of being top 20%-which they aren't. Some people are just unnatractive and always will be. Lifting has its place but it sometimes gets treated as if it is the be-all end-all of life and will give you superpowers. I think that's bullshit and BP.
Thoughts?

Lifting is easily the most visible SMV trait you can have. It should be the focus, complimented by good fashion, cologne, confidence, and game.

I agree. Recently I realized that a lot of lines I want to say can't be brought across with the bravado required as I'm not built. It's actually the bottleneck now.

Lifting is part of the baseline. It's like asking if brushing your teeth is enough.
[deleted] 7y ago
Exactly. It's a sure way to increase your SMV, who gives a damn if it doesn't get you into the top 20% alone, that's what all the other RP shite is for.

Wow that makes a LOT of sense actually. Thanks.

Lifting is not just about looks. It's primarily about increased energy. Energy that will make you better at whatever, including confidence, so overall being more successful which is a part of attraction.

2/3 of the adult population is either overweight or obese. If you aren't overweight then that alone puts you in the top 1/3, as far as your weight. Actually being in shape moves you up above the 33% percentile, probably to the 20% or better. Of course, you also want to increase your SMV in ways other than the physical.

Absolutely not, but through lifting you get to the "stage" where you realize it is not enough and from there you decide on what to do to capitalize on what you have achieved so far.

Just last week you said " Despite the TRP belief that lifting, grooming, and dressing well can get anyone up to top 20%, that's just not true. "
I suggest you stop worrying about tearing down false mantras and focus on yourself. Make yourself the best man you can be. If you do your best, and can only get to top 40%, so be it, you are still better than average. Don't let some imaginary number hold you back.

The reason why lifting is preached on TRP is because it puts you in a different mindset. Discipline, goals, focus, energy, mental health and physical health are all the by product of lifting. No one cares if you're skinny fat, skinny, fat, jacked whatever. Lifting/challenges strengthens your frame, your mindset; and that my friend is what puts you in the top 20%. You crush challenges, you set goals, and achieve them. Lifting is a discipline, and what you learn from lifting directly correlates to real life.

Lifting alone is never enough. One can find Beta Biceps if they look around.

Running/taking a walk is also important especially on a cut.

Lifting is as mentally beneficial as it is physical.
Qazreddit99 7y ago
Yea. I am aware. My thougts were more about top 20% physically. The mental aspect wouldn't really impact your body.

There is more than one benefit to lifting.
First, the aesthetic. Obviously.
But second, and more importantly, two of the three primary compound lifts involve the legs. The use of the legs, the biggest muscles in the body, produces significant amounts of testosterone.
Testosterone keeps you from being a whiny little bitch simp.
You can do the work, or..
Make excuses NOT to do the work.
But NEVER, complain about a lack of results after NOT doing the work.

Lifting is foundational. It straightens your posture, improved your health, increases your ability to succeed under intense pressure, builds your confidence, enhances daily focus, among other things. You notice none of these things involve women. Then on top of that it increases your smv.
If you lift hard and consistently you will be top 5-10% from a physical standpoint. When I say hard I mean you moan with pain sometimes involuntarily. I mean you are at failure often. Not every set. But often. And I mean 3-4x a week. Consistently. Every week. You do that and you will change as a person. And people will notice.
It doesn’t mean the total package is top 10 or 20%. But it means you are the best version of you physically. And that’s all right by me.
