Title sort of says it all. I make 50k a year, and pay 750 a month for rent. Between payment and insurance the car costs me 500 a month to have. Its an M series BMW, and I work in sales, so having a nice image with the car is somewhat necessary.
I wouldn't be moving into a junker, but definitely something where I wouldnt have a payment.
I spend about two hours a day commuting in said car. In a way the happiness it brings me justifies owning it.
Is the point of making money and working not to enjoy it? Though an extra 500 a month would be nice to have.
Thoughts.

Man, get yourself a used Nissan Maxims or an Accord off craigslist and get it over with. You wanna know how to get rich and stay rich? Spend less money than you earn. By trying to flex and look like you got money, and trying to keep up with appearances you're only fucking yourself over. You already have a job, who are you impressing? Get an affordable car, paint it black and tint the Windows and it'll look like luxury.
What do u need an M series for anyway? Are u going on a racetrack? No. You're just showing off at the expense of your peace of mind. You're not a rich motberfucker, don't spend like One. Nothing is more pathetic than people who buy wild expensive cats and have to make payments for 5 years lol. Just get a nice used car.

Actually I do spend a good amount of time at the track doing NASA and SCAA stuff, so there's that.

If you like the car keep it. If you can afford paying the note, insurance, and maintenance keep it. If it makes you happy, keep it.
You don't need validation from anyone. It's your money so do whatever the fuck you want to do with it.

Do whatever the fuck you want, but remember cars are expensive. I bought a similar car to you with slightly less monthly payment and I thought it would be easy. What you don't consider are all the other payments of keeping the car afloat.
Pretty much all of these are more expensive than a honda
So that's 500 for just insurance and the price of the car. Did you take all of these into account too?
RememberingAlpha 9y ago
Yeah, I'm coming from an STI so I'm familiar with pricey pets. The difference being the STI didn't have a note.

Why can't you have both.
Maybe Uber on the side. Part time gig, get to keep the car, and interact with ppl.
How many months do you have to pay this car off. What is the total cost of ownership for gas, tickets, repairs.
The things you own, end up owning you... So make sure it actually brings you happiness.

Consider the loss you take on the car, plus the expense of a new one.
But really man, this is a personal decision with valid points on both sides. No real right or wrong answer. Bmw helps with girls if thats what you are going for. A civic wont do the same. I went from a camaro to a honda.

Do you live somewhere where you can ride a motorcycle year round?

no

If you crash it you get nothing.
If it breaks down you get nothing.
The only reason to have a big showy expensive car is if you have a backup waiting in the garage.

Make more money, coffee's for closers.

Never under any circumstances should you ever buy a car with anything other than cash. Never, ever, ever, finance or lease a car.
The only way to buy a car is to buy a used car with cash. No other option.
Get rid of it immediately.

I disagree. The right car can make men respect the shit out of you, and is a great way to make new friends. Every guy loves a fast car. As for women, I don't know a girl that doesn't get their panties wet for a nice car. ( That being said, OP owning an M series with the money he is making currently could be a little overkill. Although, I have a 19 year old friend who's daily driver is a recent model M3. So it's definitely doable. Although it really depends on the model. An M2 is VERY different than an M6 when it comes to maintaining it and the cost involved when driving it. It's all about perspective.
RememberingAlpha 9y ago
Yeah its a 2011 M3. So its not the WHOLE bill. I'm definitely a car guy, been a member of car clubs and used to frequent meets etc.
LockedOnTheRedPill 9y ago
Yeah, I love my friend's 2010 M3. It's amazing to drive. In all honesty, if you're happy with it, keep it. That's all that matters. I don't understand the disdain some guys have with cars here. I'm a total car guy, and All of my closest friends are as well. It's a great way to go out there and meet some cool people, and just explore the world. Hell, I had an old LTR that almost loved cars as much as I do (her dad sold exotic cars), and it was a great way to really build a connection. A girl having at least a basic knowledge of cars is a must for LTR consideration for me.
