Title says it all.
Looking for good advice or resources on where I can drop a few hundred or a grand on some new attire.
I'm looking for more of a place with nice service. I'm done with the clearance section at Marshal's.

Also, Jeans and a t-shirt is fine, they just have to be the right jeans and the right t-shirt. Fit is by far the most important thing here, most men wear clothing 1-2 sizes too large for them, it ends up looking sloppy.

This. Short of hiring a personal stylist, subscribe to this subreddit and read through the links. I'm not sure what your personal style is and /r/malefashionadvice can veer into the hipster-ish domain, but there are excellent suggestions there.
Also, don't discount the classic T-shirt and Jeans combo. Get a t-shirt with an interesting painting or a photo on it. No writing. I've seen it work as a conversation starter. For jeans, you can skip Wrangler and check out Acne Jeans, Nudie jeans, threesixteen etc. Get one that fits you well.
If you don't have any gay friends, take a girl out shopping with you (preferably not a prospect) and reward them with lunch for helping you with your look.

The sidebar on MFA is gold. Target t-shirt, uniqlo jeans, a pair of chucks and you'll be getting looks all day off a $80 outfit.

I'm transitioning in to more of a professional atmosphere, trust me the T-shirt and jeans aren't going anywhere. I suppose the title was misleading.
I know all about fit and the other essentials these guys preach.
I think I was looking for more of store suggestions. Places I can go to get nice clothes that fit me proper while in a business/professional atmosphere.
I would rather some personal RP recommendations instead of another reddit flooded with trendy styles.
Simply put, where can a man find a place to get some a professional wardrobe from nothing?
Thanks for comments all.

My advice as an /r/MFAer is to take your fucking time. Don't spend your budget in one giant shopping spree. You don't really get a sense of what fits right in the fitting room until you've spent time at it and learn what to look for.
Get cheap clothes that fit well (ie: H&M, more trendy/stuff goes out of style fast, but fits are good and it's cheap) before you drop big bucks on quality. Your wallet will thank me. Dropping cash on quality means that your mistakes will be expensive rather than cheap. You will make horrible mistakes. Accept that now.
JCrew's suiting is pretty fly as well. But I'd recommend sticking with a cheapo H&M suit that looks good. In charcoal or grey, obviously. Get used to buying suits and feel out how you want to look before dropping cash.
Tailor your dress shirts. Seriously. In my opinion, white is where it's at for dress shirts. Use the tie to add colour. Find white dress shirts that fit right and buy a tonne. Mix up some white ocbds in the mix for casual Friday. But you might think otherwise white is too generic or something. Get some striped shirts or blue ocbds for a more casual, but still sharp, look.
Learn to love shopping and go window shopping a lot. You just have to try on a lot of things and find out what works for you. Don't be afraid to walk into a store without any intention of buying anything, look around and try stuff on.
If you look at /r/MFA with an eye to what you want your look to be, then you will find great information. Most of what you need to know is just about putting the time in, just like any other hobby. So much of being fashionable is learned by osmosis and emulation. Finding what you like and what you hate is crucial, and that's done by giving it all a shot.
[Aside: You probably know a lot of this stuff already, but I got onto a rant and it might help others]

I'll help you out dude.
First priority is fit. If you are to grab and pinch your pants, you don't want more than a half of an inch to an inch of fabric available on each side.
Shirts should have the shoulder seam hit at your acromion process. Shoulder be slim through the chest, with no more than an inch of fabric available freely on each side.
Fake faded and distressed shit should be out of your wardrobe. Denim? As dark a navy as you can get.
No squared toed shoes, no running shoes unless you're running.
If you're an american man, I would heartily suggest uniqlo.com for all your cheap but still well fitting clothing.

Work attire? Evening out attire? Weekend attire? All of those are different, and should be obtained from different clothiers.
[deleted] 11y ago
All of the above.
edit: I think it would be valuable information for everyone.

Damn, thinking about it, I have a lot of information about attire and such. Who to purchase from, what to wear, etc. I should put a post up about it.

Another vote for /r/malefashionadvice.
Don't just blindly buy the first thing that they recommend you. Find a look that you like and that you think fits your personality.
While I can appreciate a look like this. It's just not something I would personally wear.

Macy's is fine for general stuff and a spread of things you can try on. If you want specific styles you'll need specific stores of course - but it's a good place to get a feel for things, even if you don't buy there - you can shop around after you get a feel for everything that is out there.
I got an awesome Hilfiger herringbone vest there that I ALWAYS get complements on while I'm wearing it with almost anything that is coordinated. It's been hard to find this stuff in other places.
Consignment shops are a good place to get some nicer things too at an affordable price. Date one of the girls there, and she can even hook you up with the best stuff that comes in before it goes on the rack. Some of my best jeans are from that situation.

1st thing that's gotta be fit is yourself.
2nd is your clothes.
Get that right, nothing much can go wrong.
As for the details: what is the sthick with you? What style do you want? You a suit guy, sort of more casual, what? Age bracket?
Give us something here.

it does not matter what clothes you are wearing, if you feel confident and exude confidence people will pick up on that, and that is what you want, for people to say hey look at that confident man
heist_of_saint_graft 11y ago
Ironed clothes help me feel confident.

I can't remember who told me this but his friend used to go to Men's Warehouse and just tell the workers there to pick out good clothes/suits and make him look good as hell. Price wasn't an issue for him of course so he'd be dropping 2.5G on one suit, but he would be the most well dressed guy there was.
You could probably do the same just give them your budget and let them go to work.

Honestly, I disagree with the common thread of "dress rich"
Not everyone looks good in a suit, what matters more is that you maintain the "frame" of your looks. Find what style suits you, your body type, and your personality.
I used to go to the bar wearing nice pants, nice shoes, nice collared shirt, and a nice watch. Never got any looks at all.
I switched it up and wore a tight black shirt, bandana, plain black pants, and combat boots. I was the only one in the bar dressed like that and the girls ate it up. I got shittest from the men but held my frame. I dont know how many times I got called axel rose.
