Dudes,
Does anyone here have any input about what societies and brotherhoods might be rewarding to join? The obvious one that comes to mind is freemasonry, but I've looked into others such as OTO and even less formalized groups which have regular meets.
My goals are:
1) To become a better man
2) To expand my network
3) To observe and learn the power of ritual
4) To learn arcane/or hidden knowledge (such as it is)
5) To uplift myself, those around me, my community, and the world (in that order)
Thanks, -Dre

Hard to see how OTO and freemasonry, or anything really, would be compatible.
Have you considered a motorcycle club? Carb rejetting seems about as esoteric and arcane as anything.

In an RC, so not hardass and only full of old dudes. Bunch of fun 20-30's guys, constant events and girls around. Plus the very nature of motorcycles weeds out weak men.

I've been a Master Mason for a few years; no secret/super cool/metaphysically practical teachings so far, though some of the ritual is interesting. Most of it is stuff like "sleep enough, help people when you can, be a good person," and other standards
I've heard OTO has secret practical magic(k)al teachings if you believe such things. If you're looking to discover more of that path I'd suggest them; I haven't seen anything supernatural in the Masons, though I suppose anything is possible.
For networking, community service/outreach, and such, the Freemasons are hard to beat. Though there are a lot of Beta(tm) males there, just like everywhere else. If nothing further, it's a good place to find male-only companionship. You'd probably find similar friends in fishing/hunting/mechanics/marksmanship or any other stereotypically-male activity.
Gyms and martial arts studios are another good place for camaraderie; I'd start with whatever your passions are, keeping in mind that wherever you go will be full of Betas and likely no less PC than the rest of the world.

How would one go about becoming a mason? Just out of curiosity?

The standing slogan is: "To be one, ask one."
Some lodges are desperate for members; I suggest a lodge that isn't. They shouldn't just let anyone in, and typically, there's a vetting process where they send brothers speak with you and try to get a feel for whether you'll contribute to the lodge.
If you pm me your location I may be able to recommend someone.

Must be a Protestant, for one.

For arcane knowledge I would suggest reading various religious texts and philosophical texts from ancient times. Works that come to mind are Sun Tzu - The Art of War, The Bhagavad-Gita, and Plato's The Republic. Right now I'm reading The Iliad. Afterwards I'm going to check out Marcus Aurelius' Meditations.
Russian literature is great too. Dostoevsky is practically a prophet. I found it incredibly interesting how he mentions concepts of logarithmic systems for bureaucratic management before the existence of computers. He also discusses the emergence of the demagogue. Just interesting philosophical thoughts to dwell on.

Interesting
I've committed to getting through Robert Greene's catalog over the next few weeks but when done I'll take another crack at Crime & Punishment -I enjoyed it before having to return it to a friend

I would definitely recommend Notes from Underground if you want something a little shorter and easier to digest. It's only 80 something pages and very deep / intellectual.

Had a few Freemasons I sailed with. Look at redpillroom posts on male social matrix, thats the benefit. The days of manipulating banks are over friend.

If only I was born a century earlier.
Polio would have been a small price to pay for crashing the markets and making a fortune

Freemasonry is too mainstream these days.

Free Masons, Skull and Bones, Savage Club (big internationally and UK), Gangster Disciples, Toastmasters, 4H, MS13,

I'm OTO. Great group, for the most part.
There are a few here and there who are tiresome. But overall, very cool. Womenfolk are great too. There's women there who really deserve respect.

The rule is for every step forward you make in occult knowledge you need to improve your morals and ethics by 2 steps. Occult knowledge is dangerous when you are not prepared.
Occult knowledge has also been corrupted over the years and in my opinion there does not exist a "secret society" that you can join that gets the spiritual facts straight. Not a one!
With all that said here is a source that gets closer to the truth than any of your suggestions.

At the Gates of Spiritual Science...
http://wn.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA095/English/RSPAP1986/GateSS_index.html
...is the information I give to everyone who is interested in occult knowledge (occult simply means hidden but has been portrayed/linked as a word denoting Satanism or evil). These are easy to understand and explains the basics quite well. If you read these letures you will be ahead of 90% of the people who claim to have "occult" knowledge.
This is mystery wisdom brought to you by Rudolf Steiner. There are a few others that can compare to him (J. Krishnamurti for one) but Steiner really laid it all down as best as he could in hundreds of lectures and his 5 main books (available for FREE on that website). If you inist on Freemasonry Steiner updated their rituals in this set of lectures...Freemasonry and Ritual Work: the Misraim Service (https://www.amazon.ca/Freemasonry-Ritual-Work-Misraim-Service/dp/0880106123)
You will have a real hard time understanding that book if you don't know the basics either.
I personally think the OTO has always been a bastardized version of mystery wisdom, almost black magic. I think Kabbalah is extremely interesting but is way too old to help us in and serious ways in the modern world. The thing about anthroposophy is that it claims to be more up to date...meaning appropriate for the western man in the modern world...as opposed to say Yoga which is more appropriate for eastern folks and is not as up to date with the spiritual changes that have taken place in man and society since it's beginnings in India a long time ago.

Spiritual science is an oxymoron. If that hippy bullshit helps you get better results in your own life then go for it. But none of it is actually scientific. There are no falsifiable hypotheses.
RedPillJohnny 7y ago
The same rules don't apply in the spirit world. Spiritual truths wither in the light of modern physical science because they are two different worlds, two different perspectives, both true but neither appear to support the other. "Hippy bullshit" is spiritual hamstering. Spiritual science rejects everything from that camp because it is bullshit.
But whatever...I ain't here to force it down your throat or to change your mind

I've been studying Steiner for years. PM me if you have any questions. Glad you like it. The archive is free so you really never have to buy any books or lectures to check it out. Theosopshy is the movement that Steiner split from when Olcott, Besant and others declared Krishnamurti the new Jesus...Krishnamurti went on to disband the theosophical society for doing that. Madame Blavatsky had a lot of insight but Steiner said that she was put in an occult prison by the "eastern masters" from India. So her work has insight but is critically flawed in a number of instances.
Good luck my man.
