Synopsis: Mind fucks

Body: Some smartphones (most notably Apple IPhone's Imessage) allow you to show the other party when you've read their message. TURN THIS ON. Easiest dread game, I've had two girls call me out on not responding to texts when I've clearly read them, putting them in my frame and showing that they (to a certain extent) care. It's infuriating knowing that someone's read your text but refuses to respond, and guarantees you'll be on their mind longer than otherwise.

Conclusion: Turn on 'Read Receipts'.

I don't like this because it makes the dread intentional. The point of not responding is that you're actually too busy to read it. It adds more mystery. If she knows you're glued to your phone 24x7 it seems like you're being a dick or trying too hard. Ymmv

Agree. But still turn it on to show you actually have not read it. Leave your phone in the gyms locker.

I work in an office building. I always leave my phone in my office if I leave it. When I come back I might or might not check the phone. I think this is perfect. Sometimes you reply after hours, sometimes after 5 minutes. It shows you are often busy an not actually playing games. You are answering when you have time.

He is not pretending, I read text instantly on my phone because it shows up on screen although I respond 2-3 hours later because I'm actually working and have a life.

Now life is not FAIR , so me missing out on love because I read a text to fast and didn't imply dread game correctly seems silly but that's the way it works.

While this is very simple game its highly effective if used properly

Not true. I can go days without reading a text message, from a 2011 Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader. She's all fluff. Her sister told me I'm terrible about responding to text messages.

Shit... I've not read my phone for DAYS at a time. I'm even in IT. Out of the state, with no easy way to make it back before Monday? I'll sort those messages out when I get back.

It's not about being too busy. It's about not needing to read them.

it's hard to understand because here we all are on reddit for crying out loud, but if you're a baller, you're too busy to check your phone all day. No more than once every few hours at a maximum.

when you get a text from her, the next time you check your phone - say, 3-4 hours later (and 3-4 hours of her not getting a read receipt), respond with "hey I'm really busy right now, but I want to find some time to talk to you later." It's considerate and polite, which is what a man should be, but underscores how important your life is and how busy you are with the many important things you are doing, and how she is only somewhat important, and not nearly important enough to drop what you are doing.

Agree with this. You're either too busy to be on your phone or you're not. If you have time to go read through texts then you have the 2-5 seconds required to reply. Jeez. Leaving read receipt off gives you more mystery and keeps her hamster spinning. If you keep reading her/someone's messages and just don't respond, you just look like a dick.

A word of advise though. If you're not too confident in your self yet i.e. a freshly red-pilled guy, then don't. I've seen so many guys go nuts with over thinking why she hasn't replied yet.

OP is talking about turning on a setting where they can see that you've read their messages, not the other way around.

That is (at least on iPhones) not possible. When you turn on "read receipts" it enables both you and everyone else to see if a message has been read. If you turn it off, no-one will get a receipt.

Also true on Android. It is both ways. Either you disable read receipts, then they won't see if a message is read but you won't see either or you turn them on then both parties will be notified of message status.

False. This is a personal setting with global effects. If you have it off, you can still see read receipts for people that have it on, and if you have it on you'll only see it for people that also have it on.

This is some good advice, right here. When the read receipt notifications first were introduced with whatsapp, everyone was flipping their shit about "Imma turn that shit off because privacy and bla bla". This is one of the best tools that have been given to anyone who is familiar with dread 101.

Not only does this show you read their text, didn't care and thus didn't reply, but it also shows you don't even care enough to hide that fact from them.

Last part, for sure. Whenever I see people with read receipt off, I assume they are afraid of looking needy. Instant give away that they are self conscious and trying to hide neediness.

This is accomplished without read receipts and looking needy.

Not responding already accomplishes this. She sent it, now let her wonder if you read it, or if you're doing something more interesting than talking to her. If she gets a read receipt right when she sends it and you don't reply for 3 hours it kills that illusion.

Unless you have AMAZING phone discipline (and let's be honest here, most of you young kids don't), I say turn off read-receipts.

Why? Because it conveys how long you waited to actually read the texts. This completely spoils your poker face, and telegraphs that you aren't doing anything interesting because your dorky-ass picked up your phone 5 seconds after she texted. The only way read-receipts will work is if you actually don't read it for a number of hours, which means you're out doing something interesting, which is a sign of high SMV.

I find having it turned off adds even more dread, as the woman has no idea if you read it or not, which adds an extra layer of uncertainty. She'll maybe assume you saw it and didn't reply, so she's uneasy. Or she'll assume you're busy with another woman, so busy you weren't able to touch your phone, which is even worse for her. The "not knowing" aspect will drive her more crazy than seeing a read receipt.

I'd advise against it. At least on Android when a girl sends me a message with 'Read Receipt' (or whatever is the equivalent) I've got a nasty popup asking whether I want to send the confirmation or not. It will look needy as hell if those popups would show on her phone with after every message from you. Oh and also there is no option to send those receipts without the other party requesting them so the whole issue is irrelevant after all.

It might be just Samsung phones but hey, it’s the most popular brand.

Totally agree. If she sees you read your text message withing 37 seconds of her sending it, how much tension are you really adding for not responding for an hour? Will she think you spent all that time crafting your reply? A true alpha doesn't "draft" messages.

Maybe there's something to the read receipt thing, but it's a clear positive for most guys.

Its not that she thinks you're drafting a message, moreso that she thinks you're ignoring her. If you wait an hour or 2 after she sees you've read it it works wonders.

I've been doing this with WhatsApp since forever. Especially if I'm punishing my LTR for her bitchy behavior. Radio silence, she's free to send walls of text, and she's also free to know that I've read them.

Here are some rules of thumb I go by:

Never open a text or snapchat in under 10 minutes, unless you're having a conversation or setting up important logistics
Use read receipts
Occasionally open, but not reply to texts/snaps
Occasionally not open texts/snaps for a day or so
Use radio silence whenever you've lost frame
Engage in banter or conversation only to prime her up for meeting her next time. This will give you "convo ammo," if you will, to employ when you run out of things to say. Ex: a girl asked me about what I'd be doing on my trip to Austria. "Talking about Austria merits a beer or two" - "Okay I will..And what????^" - "Let's discuss over a beer, or vino" - "I'm holding you to that"

Obviously this is more effective, but if you have a life where you can, on command, produce a snap chat story with you doing cool and interesting things, then doing this for the sake of one woman is probably a waste of time.

Everything I post on snap chat I would post regardless of the girl situation. I don't do fb or twitter, just snap chat cause only my actual friends and girls follow me. Another nice thing is that it works both ways. If a girl doesn't text me back, I show that I am living my life and really don't give a fuck that she hasn't texted me back. Sometimes they text me back and I can continue to lay game and sometimes they don't and they get nexted, either way I win.

I would advise otherwise. If you have it turned on, they KNOW you've read it and you suddenly stopped replying at ~10pm on a friday evening when you're out at a bar and was going to meet up later. So they more or less KNOW you've gotten some chick to come suck your weiner or whatever. I prefer to have it on off because then i MIGHT'VE gotten someone hooked for the evening or maybe i just haven't read it yet; THAT is mindgames.

"Why haven't he replied yet, he always replies fast, or maybe he hasn't read it yet, or maybe he has and have decided not to reply yet, or maybe he got some more fit/sexier girl or maybe maybe maybe"

"Oh he's read it but hasn't replied, what is he up to? He always replies kinda fast".

The less they know and the more they have to guess the more they think about you.

If the receipts are turned on and they 'know' you're getting laid then that's preselection. If they're off then you've produced an air of mystery. Both options have their advantages. I think it just comes down to the user's individual style.
