I think the title of this post is a little too general. It raises the eternal question of why women screw the “bad boy” instead of the “nice guy,” as opposed to why women would risk arrest screwing prisoners and smuggling them contraband and money. They are certainly “bad boys” but that is a simplification I believe.

From what I understand (despite never being imprisoned), is that a lot of convicts—especially in federal prison—are still able to operate within their powerful drug gangs from inside. They can also be held up as heroes in the neighborhood if they also took their turn to take the fall for a bunch of other guys. If you watch all of the HBO series The Wire (great series) you’ll see some of this dramatized.

So, women who screw guys in prison, whether cheating or not, are not just seeking the alpha/bad boy personality, but also men of social proof and high status in the neighborhood. They have shown they are providers and willing to go to jail to protect others, fellow gang members and women.
