In the past couple of days there has been a slew of articles (on worthless sites that I wouldn't be aware of was it not for Facebook) about having a "dad bod", and why girls (supposedly) love it.

A dad bod is short for being in horrible shape with a beer belly. While as of now there have only been a couple of articles and it seems to be mostly contained on the college level, if the phenomenon spreads you'll be happy to be unplugged for it.

People on this sub are often divided between whether it's alright to work out for the sole purpose of attracting women, but here they are suggesting something that's on a whole new level of BP - letting your body go to shit because girls like it. The article that I linked above points out some of the reasons:

"It doesn't intimidate us - We don't need a perfectly sculpted guy standing next to us to make us feel worse."

"We love people saying "they look cute together." But we still like being the center of attention."

"Better cuddling. No one wants to cuddle with a rock. Or Edward Cullen. The end."

"Good eats. The dad bod says he doesn't meal prep every Sunday night so if you want to go to Taco Tuesday or $4 pitcher Wednesday, he'd be totally down. He's not scared of a cheat meal because he eats just about anything and everything."

It kills me to know that there are actually guys out there who will say "Wow, that all makes sense!". But anyone who has been unplugged for a while will be able to read between the lines, and the above could be rewritten as:

"I see him as a guy who I don't have to prove myself to, who I can use to look better by contrast, who I can use for validation through cuddling, and who doesn't have the type of priorities or self control that will limit the time he spends with me."

This is a physical alternative to the types of deception we have seen on an emotional level - just be yourself, be honest, always put her first, guys who are open about their feelings are attractive, etc. Looking for insightful comments by veterans, my mind is blown.
