As we all know, fitness is critical to the health and well-being of any person, male or female. It makes us look good, it makes us feel good, and it makes us more successful in ways that we would not have been otherwise. Weightlifting has been shown to have positive effects on depression, and I couldn't agree more. This study shows the efficacy of lifting on the mind. We must always strive to be our best selves, and lifting is unequivocally a part of that. By being our best, we show the world what we are made of, and what we are capable of.
If you feel like someone shit in your cornflakes, lift. If you think you aren't worth the flesh you live in, lift. If you feel like you can't change your life, lift. If you believe you can't achieve anything, lift. If you are going to kill yourself, lift.
(In all seriousness, if you are thinking of killing yourself, seek help immediately. Then, go lift.)
There's nothing more rewarding than seeing progress in your life. Real, measurable, progress. What better progress is there than picking up a pile of heavy shit and seeing it for yourself first hand? The answer: None.
Give yourself 6 months. You deserve it.
Never stop.

Ive been lifting for 3months now, how will another 3 months affect me?

How can you consider yourself a man until you can clean and press 315lbs / 140kg?
cenie 5y ago
When I first came across TRP and saw all the "go lift" comments, I thought it was a common meme of this community. Then I actually started lifting, honestly not as much and consistently as I should, and I could not believe how good it feels after finishing a workout. That shit really does help. Any feeling of depression or anger are gone after a good workout.
It's the real deal.
TheNextMilo 5y ago
Lol don't just lift...
What are you gonna do wqhen some wiseguy whips out his fucking knucledusters asnd starts swinging, huh? You gotta be fast, athletic even.
red_philosopher 5y ago
Honestly, you just need to be strong enough to throw down and not be afraid to take a hit. Assuming it even gets that far. And if they take the time to draw and ready a weapon like that you have plenty of time to put some distance on them and draw one of your own. Firearms are the great equalizer, never forget that.
Twin knuckledusters, as if. Hahahahahah.

This subreddit is not at all what I thought it was going to be. I have seen you guys offer genuine and thoughful advice and care for each other and you seem to strive to be better for yourselves - not as some elaborate plan to trick the world. You work on yourselves mentally and physically (as I believe all people should, but few ever do). I know this is not my sub home, but I just wanted to mention how quickly you all have blown through my misconceptions. I hope you guys keep supporting each other like this and that the world responds with as much positivity as you seem to be giving each other.
OP is also dead on about lifting. You may start it as a way to lose weight or look better - but slowly feeling your body become strong and capable is an amazing feeling.
AceMav21 5y ago
Oh by the way, Drinking after you lift decreases protein synthesis by 20%. So you get 20% less gains.
_Lowd 5y ago
Huh, drinking anything? Can you explain more?
AceMav21 5y ago
Alcohol read up on it there’s been studies. Recently for a 3 week span I’d been getting drunk every night after the gym to take the edge off my preworkout Mr. Hyde. Then I noticed holy fuck I can barely lift more than I could at the start of the month.
_Lowd 5y ago
Oh yeah. Alcohol, lack of sleep and stress will fuck your testosterone up.
AceMav21 5y ago
Fr Fr, you know what increases T. LIFTING FUCK!

My father says that lifting is a vehicle for discipline.
earlsinclairisdead 5y ago
I started in February, hurt my back in March, took April off, and I've been going three times a week minimum for two hours at a time, plus boot camps. 2 days at it, 1 day off. On my days off I walk a couple miles while listening to podcasts.
I was a depressed shit. I lost a bad marriage to a shitty wife, and I was in a "why wasn't I good enough" phase for a couple of years. I selfishly dated other women during this time too, creating an even more fucked up vortex for myself and them. Right now I'm taking a year - my goal is 52 boot camps (one a week) and those three sessions. I will have before and after pictures.
I was planning on ending the human ride for myself. I was going to eat steel. Now I lift it. Depression vanished.

There's nothing like hearing first hand the benefits of exercise and discipline in men.
dreamon93 5y ago
My question for you all of you guys is - can I get similar results by normal exercises (push ups, pull ups, jogging etc). I've been doing a mix of these exercises for over 3 months (3 times a week) now and I'm already feeling better and with more energy. I just want to dodge gym membership payments, I feel if I can get the same results for free? I just want to get in good shape and look fit, I'm not going for a Mr. Olympia body here.
I'm also becoming more aware of what I eat from day to day (no overly processed foods, lots of vegetables, cut sweet treats totally). I found a new passion in cooking, nothing better than eating something that you put effort in, only downside is I dont have a dish washer machine, so that sucks.
Also. can you guys give me a tip for a meal thats healthy and has enough nutrition or any other tips will be aprreciated!
red_philosopher 5y ago
Generally, all forms of exercise will have fantastic results for your mind and body. I still would recommend weightlifting, even if it is bodyweight-based (push-ups, pull-ups, etc.) or real-world lifting like rocks and other heavy objects you see during your jogs. (Be smart about it, don't be lifting people's property, they may frown on it.)
Keto/Paleo are pretty solid diets, basically fresh animal proteins, whole fruits and vegetables.
Just make sure you choose one new habit to stick to during your transition. It's easy to get discouraged early when there's so much changing at once.

I lifted since I was a teenager, but I got really serious about it when I was about 42. Now, seven years later, I am in the best shape of my life, and I have chicks in their 20s routinely flirting with me. I am married, and I flirt back, but I choose to have a line that I don’t cross. Guys should always keep their chops fresh by continually day gaming no matter what your situation is. Lift and day game.
Get rid of the fuckarounditis in the gym, and the results are unbelievable.

Lifting is where it all starts. All of these things we talk about here: commitment, drive, dealing with frustrations, embracing the suck, discipline, doing the things you don't want to do, getting off cheap dopamine (social media/fapping) and earning dopamine the hard way.......all of these are taught very quickly in the iron temple. The icing on the cake is that you get a fantastic body in about 2 years.
The journey is the reward.
Men evolved to do heavy shit. That's what we are here for. But also don't forget that lifting is the beginning. Not the end.
German8835 5y ago
But which way is better? Bulk/cut or just eat enough calories for muscles to grow (3500 for me) I am ~10% body fat right now, started lifting about a month ago, see progress but still skinny af.
The_Chiselnator 5y ago
Try to throw in 8 weeks of Creatine Monohydrate. Your muscles will have more explosive power to lift heavier and longer and you will also retain more water so you will look noice if you need that kind of motivation. And Creatine is natural so you don't have to worry about all the shit steroids can get you into.
Almost everyone uses creatine at the beginning. 8 weeks, cut for 2 to 4 weeks.
But the first 3 to 5 days you have to take it 5 times a day. After that just twice i.e. before and after a workout.
If you like you can take more proteins (whey or whatever)
Personally I prefer to lift without nutritional crutches but I was always athletic and spent years in the badlands. I can see how creatine and proteins can be useful to a beginner. You will look very nice and can do a big preen in 8 weeks but don't forget that those big muscles will be just water so you have to keep lifting
German8835 5y ago
Yes, thanks for the advice. After the creatine cut (2-4 weeks) should I take it again? And I am getting around 200 grams of protein a day (28 from whey and rest from my nutrition), so I think that is enough.
The_Chiselnator 5y ago
Yes. 8 week cycles and after every 8 weeks you cut 2-4 weeks.
red_philosopher 5y ago
Well said. I would go so far to say that lifting is a part of the journey, and neither the beginning nor the end.
WalterEArmstrong 5y ago
"The icing on the cake is that you get a fantastic body in about 2 years." But in just ONE years time you'll look a lot better.

Just the feeling of being successful when you barely are able to finish that last set is addicting. I fucking did it. Then you start seeking that challenge on your day-to-day life, and before you know it, boom.

A healthy strong body gives you a healthy strong mind.
However remember it's a loop and a strong mind will give you a strong body as well. A strong mind is discipline, that is, self-generating, self-dependent, external stimuli-independent will power. The gym begins in your mind.
Remember the first step you take in the direction of the gym is a step of your future improved, superior self you already own, just like the first brick you lay on the floor already gets you one brick of your future house.
Once you get physically fit, every second you spent lifting will have counted, just like once you learn to play the piano, sight-sing staff or type every second you spent practicing all those years will have counted. So your future alpha self is a long series of seconds of training starting right NOW, so every second of training you take is a second of your future alpha self you already own.
Remember talent is not an action, it's a habit.
Btw we use the word 'lifting' but it's not about just lifting and getting muscular; in general it's about improving your physical fitness.
red_philosopher 5y ago
I'd agree, lifting just has the additional perk of getting muscular.
[deleted] 5y ago
I'm all about lifting but it doesn't have to be a pile of heavy shit. Calisthenics have some very impressive moves that really show off a total ownership of your entire body in a way your average weight lifter can't do.
red_philosopher 5y ago
Idk, your body is a pretty heavy pile of shit ;)
Reliiq 5y ago
Pile of heavy shit is either eternal mass gain mode or steroids (and they will fuck up you from inside in the end) You are correct about Calisthenics, but also consider natural aesthetics bodybuilding that can be achivied without steroids and gives you all year around low fat aesthetic physique.
blacklightsleaze 5y ago
Yea calisthenics is cool and some of the bodyweight strength moves translate surprisingly well in the gym.
Sumsar01 5y ago
Calisthenics isn't enough and the "average weightlifter" is a retard who never gets through the novice stage.

To be honest your late 2016 body already looks great. Your body now looks good, but you clearly took steroids and it doesn't look as "natural".
I'm sure you fuck more girls now anyway.
[deleted] 5y ago
I'm not judging you, but this is clearly a steroid transformation. You shouldn't ever leave that out when giving advice about lifting.

That's a big difference. What advice would you have for someone who successfully got strong at the gym after a couple years of hard work, but stopped being able to lift due to an upper body injury and is consequently stuck skinny once again? It's wreaking havoc on my mental state and obviously my ability to attract females. When lifting is all you care about, you see how much it does for other men, you were big once and remember how it felt, but you can't actually do it... That's my current situation. I'm not who I want to be and I have no other interests outside of lifting, so I do nothing. I might be able to lift again someday, but I have burning nerve stuff going on in my neck/shoulders/arms that has been present for about 18 months and doctors still don't know exactly what's wrong.
Dabunghole 5y ago
You need to find a trainer who specializes in mobility, rehab and working with and around injuries. They usually work with elderly and will not be found at a Golds Gym, etc. they’ll have their own studio.
My friend was in a car accident. Tore every tendon in his shoulder, ruptured his spleen, broke his hip, ribs, one of his legs, etc. Doctor told him, he would never lift again. Worked with his trainer from just walking, to where he is now. He hit 315x6 on bench this past week.
PlasticPlan777 5y ago
That's awesome. I am going to look into it. Thanks.
aznredpill 5y ago
This might sound crazy but do fasting. A lot of internal healing takes place. Do your research
PlasticPlan777 5y ago
I'll look into it. Thanks. I started taking turmeric and I drink pineapple juice every day for the bromelain. Both are strong anti-inflammatories.
SlayOfCourage 5y ago
If your looking for anti-inflamatories cut gluten source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0La27FNrA4
cwood92 5y ago
Drinking fruit juice is not the best idea. You get a considerable sugar dump which gets turned pretty rapidly into fat. Better off eating the pineapple than drinking the juice.
PlasticPlan777 5y ago
Noted. I might take a bromelain supplement to get an even higher dose, anyways.
