"Alpha," in the context of TRP, means "attractive to women." Alpha traits are traits that are attractive to women. Therefore, you question doesn't make much sense.

Now to your underlying question. Subconsciously, women are attracted to men that can attain resources (providers). They also want men with good genetics (lovers). These types of men will be the best at helping to protect and raise healthy, happy children. Sometimes, if women can't find both traits in a man, they will conceive with a "lover" and pair-bond with a provider.. possibly passing off the lover's child as the providers.

I hope that description helps. In TRP, we tend to focus on traits that will help us fill the lover's role.

Jerks/Badboys/Alphas -

Attractive women live their life with constant validation and therefore they never build up a tolerance to rejection. When a jerk comes along and brushes them off it shatters them. They're not used to guys making them feel bad about themselves. Its like giving a girl an ego-migraine. She needs it stop NOW and the only aspirin is the validation you're withholding from her.

Dark Triad -

Natural selection has no morals. Watch any nature documentary and see how many fucks mother nature gives about the good guy. She prefers to reward the biggest, toughest, meanest, most cunning motherfucker who's not afraid to take what he wants. Those are the genes that are going places, not the guy who's limited by his society's passing moral codes.

In addition a bigtime criminal/serial killer gets instant celebrity status in the U.S. Women don't discriminate fame from infamy, the spotlight is just as alluring to them either way. I have a lot harder time wrapping my head around why lots of negative attention will skyrocket your SMV like that.

I am currently of the opinion, based on what evidence I've investigated that

1) Women are primarily attracted to status. (Dominance - physical especially - is a subset of status.)

2) Status is anything which could possibly benefit a woman's potential offspring. Seen in this way, status could be a wide range of things from appearance to money to fame.

3) It has been scientifically supported through experimentation that the richer you get the less empathy you seem to have. The socio-biological reasons are obvious I'd think. And even if the causation is the other way around, my next point is still valid.

4) The dark triad traits are exactly the same as high-status traits. Is a mafioso high-status? I think to a woman, definitely yes. Why? Dark triad traits. That is, high-status traits. If you think about it, these high-status traits will most definitely assure abundant resources for the woman's offspring. Exhibiting these traits is a sure indicator of high status.

5) Men who are "nice" are essentially low-status. That is, they have few resources to offer offspring.

6) When a man exhibits dark triad traits he is signifying high status in the exact same way you might by driving a fancy car.

7) Women respond favorably because their sexuality is biologically built around getting turned on by status.

I am essentially saying that high-status and the dark triad traits are one in the same. Now I know that there are many who would want to quibble, but this thinking isn't novel. Many learned researchers think psychopathic traits could only help people in positions of power and many of those people are quite possibly psychopaths.

So there you go. This is my own thinking on the subject and something it's taken me a while to arrive at. I'm sure lots of people on TRP are going to disagree.

Humans are social animals.

A man's reproductive value is highly linked to his command over communal resources, and STATUS is the measure of that. Hence, women are attracted to what they perceive to be as status.

The perception of status differs from woman to woman and in the same woman over time, and is highly prone to cognitive error.

The attraction of some women to outright assholes is a cognitive error along the lines of: "society's rules say be nice; only high status people can break society's rules; this guy is not nice; therefore this guy is high status."

But here's something important, that the angry virgins who post here don't get. Most women don't suffer from this cognitive deficit, and almost no women worth being with do. Instead, they have not only a more accurate algorithm to read status, but also an affirmative override that will lead them to turning their back on assholes at the earliest opportunity.

Nobody has said what I'm going to say yet, so here I go.

The other answers here are correct. But let's add more to the picture.

You will see men who are drug addicts, losers, thugs who are in-and-out of jail getting tons of women. These are men who might, literally, have nothing on you. So what's the difference?

Particularly in the US, the mass media has convinced women that at the heart of such "bad boys", there's actually a really special good guy that can only be unearthed by her. He's not a degenerate failure at life -- no, he's just "misunderstood" and "special".

If you don't believe me, just go to the waiting room of your local jail on visiting day. The largest number of beautiful women I had ever seen in So. Cal. in my life was when I did the same -- all there to talk with their loser "bad boy", locked up boyfriends.

tl;dr -- American women buy into bullshit fantasies sold to them by the MM.

Women get excited by displays of masculinity. Dominant behavior is what got this species where it is today. Women naturally became aroused by behavior that propagated the species. Women still become aroused by jerks/dark triad/alphas because they have not evolved beyond that point. Technology moves a a faster pace than genetics. Their desire to be fucked by assholes isn't going anywhere for a very long time.

This doesn't just apply to women, do you like being around high-status alphas or do you like being around withdrawn "trying to please everyone" betas?

It's not even science.

Alphas give safety for herself and her offspring. Alphas has the potential to give healthy offspring.

Everyone feels good with direction.

Some people are directed by their own mind.

Some people only feel direction when being overpowered.
