Life is all about ups and downs, so whoever shows that they're happy all the time they're probably lying. It's ok to feel down for a while, or purposeless, but what matter is to keep on moving. Find whatever it is that turns your crank, what makes your feel alive, like really alive and not momentarily. I found that challenges and adventure refresh my spirit, so it's different for each person.

Happy times imply unhappy times, productive times imply unproductive times, that's life for you, full of up and downs, just keep grinding even if you feel down, remember that your dad would want you to become the best man you can be.

I know there are some controversies about Jordan Peterson sometimes, but i think that, just concentrating on his expertise and not political opinion, we can agree that he is seriously educated and knows his shit.
I think that his videos and especially the book “12 rules for life“ may be the right thing for you to start with. Amongst other things, he explains how we have an innate sense of meaning, and meaning is achieved mainly by taking on responsibilities in life. He also explains how to not corrupt your sense of meaning, so that it is a good guide for your life. There is more, much more to learn from JP, just check his stuff out.
I kinda know how you feel. Lost my dad this year, too. Strong, stoic, powerful and virtuous as any man youll ever know. This knowledge helped me tremendously in really dark times.

TRP is a sterile ideology. We will probably have to go back to Catholicism or sth. ~ E. Michael Jones

Try reading Man’s Search For Meaning, by Viktor Frankl. The man survived Auschwitz. His wife, both parents, and best friend were all murdered. He barely made it out, clinging to life.
But during and after his experience, he was able to persevere.
The book helped me a lot when I was feeling pretty low. It might give you some perspective and inspiration.

I know this may not mean a lot to you, but budha has even praised that nothing lasts forever. Everything goes, earth, life, and everything else. I hope you get past it, even the motivation goes away, but its a natural process

I'm fond of the term "ignorance is bliss." I've been thinking the same shit. I got everything going well, and I still feel like shit. What's the end goal ya know?
Chit-Chad 5y ago
After a summer of absolute blast and owning shit, I am at a low point mentally. No reason, got shit going pretty well in all areas but for some reason life doesn't seem as fast paced and productive as it seemed to be. And that's okay, it doesn't have to be consistently happy go lucky. All you can do is keep going, forcing yourself to take care of your interests and self preservation. Don't give up on things, life may seem like a rut, but this too shall pass. Keep your head up man, and keep doing the things you enjoy, eventually your motivation will return.
One thing I did notice, I took up a lot of things for self betterment and now I'm in that phase of "now what?" Just need to find the next thing to challenge myself with. Keep working at it and keep searching.

Motorcycles are awesome. I would consider boxing or BJJ. Self defense combined with fitness, knock out two birds with one stone.

Here's a list off of the top of my head for some inspiration.
Finance, health, food/cooking, gym, woodworking, metalworking, hunting/shooting, career improvement, learning/school, organization, communication, grooming, musical instrument, pathfinding, car maintenance.

That's a pretty good list for a man out there. Mine it's the same. Plus riding motorbikes. OP... TRY TO GET A BIKE! :)

You may be suffering from depression. Speak to your doctor. One of the symptoms of depression is something called anhedonia.
Shtafoo 5y ago
I've been on that path. It's because this place can be depressing, and there's no proof that this is reality either. I advise you to follow your own path, take notes of things you can implement in your own life from here. And leave this sub for what it is, a place for men to gather and discuss sexual strategies.
For example: I couldn't for the life of me manage several girls, something TRP preaches as getting plates. Too much fucking drama and showing no congruent interest from me. Lifting got me in a place of self confidence, which is something I took from this sub that interested me. Also I got so fucking stuck in my head by all this theory reading I was paralyzed in social situations.
After letting go of having to do everything TRP textbook style and doing some soul searching I started believing in my self and the words that come from me are much more genuine and fluid now then back when I was reading everything like a sperg.

adversity motivates us, seems like the specific thing you have lacked judging by your post. i mean you nailed it yourself, paraphrasing you “people without education or money are motivated but here I am graduating from richkidschool and I am not motivated”.
probably because your life is too secure. why would you be motivated in that case?
i see you lost some family through some way or another, i didnt skip that part. just making assumptions by the rest of your post.
jackandjill22 5y ago
I disagree. I think this guy's depressed. Anhedonia. Key feature of depression.

your problem is inner peace. i say that because you are quite obviously operating very far ahead of the vast majority of people. i will never make that much, im totally uneducated, i have no career, but i dont feel lost or like im wallowing in despair. you wont have inner peace until you accept yourself and stop comparing yourself in the present to yourself in the past or to your friends that you are secretly jealous of.

its just a will to live. if you have things to overcome then you have less time to consider your existential sense of purpose. theres no real reason or end goal in life other than procreation. what your life means to you is for you to decide. if you have to fight for your way of life then i feel like its brings more purpose to living.

I'm not sure if it is because you've had an relatively "easy" life, but personally for me, you learn most through errors and hard times, that anger gives you motivation and drive, it's like a never ending hunger because even if you are dealt the bad hand in this life, you know there's something much better waiting for you if you actually go for it.
Feeling spite, anger, and frustration are typically hindrances because they interfere with our ability to think rationally and clearly. If we can reframe how we approach adversity in sport, business, education, family relationships, or life in general, opportunities that would have otherwise gone unrecognized are likely to be much more achievable. The key to reframing is first to recognize the situation you’re presented with, and then to recognize the specific thoughts and emotions you have surrounding that situation which are dictating your behavior. Only then can you have the ability to control and change your response.
Once you’ve experienced challenging situations in your life, it becomes easier to prepare for potential obstacles you may face down the road while pursuing various life goals. Developing solutions for how you’ll handle adversity helps keep you focused and on track if and when challenging situations arise.
As yet another year comes to a close, it’s so easy for us to get caught up in the details, large or small, of our lives and allow adversity to control us.

That’s infantilism. You’re facing the world as an adult, wanting to turn back to your idealized carefree childhood.
Your experience is common. Exercise absolutely. Set achievable goals 1 to 5 years. Get a new hobby. If it doesn’t subside in 3 months seek a behavioral therapist.

This. I've had pockets in my red pill journey where I'm accomplishing my tasks and am self-actualizing and suddenly I feel this deep emptiness (not in the Buddhist sense) where I feel as though I'm just going through the motions, fulfilling my routine and slowly reaching my goals but for what? At those moments I see I'm really just afraid of embracing the responsibility of manhood and human Agency. That I want to return to having an easy life. But like the Handbook says: "being a man means welcome to life on hard mode".
I would only add to this advice that he meditate daily, read Meditations by some stoic or why Buddhism is true by a secular Buddhist and have at least 1 goal on the bucket list that's practically unattainable like backpacking on each continent.

I concur meditate.
Embrace stoicism.

I stay motivated because if I don’t, I’ve basically given up on the presupposition that being alive is a good thing.
It’s easy to stay motivated when you see the finish line. But when you cross that line, if your only motivation was crossing it, then you’re left without purpose and direction whether you won or lost the race. And it’s purpose and direction that makes the suffering of life bearable, not success or victory.
If being alive is worth it, then it must also be true that whatever happens to us as a result of being alive must also be worth it, in the sense that it’s better than being dead and not getting to experience anything at all.
And if that’s true, that means our pain is actually good for us, as we are anti-fragile creatures who grow stronger with a bearable amount of pain every now and then. The pain that runs throughout our lives and leads to our suffering because we can’t accept our pain gracefully can be used to nourish our souls with purpose and meaning.
You’re grieving a hard loss, friend. It’s OK to feel down, to be wrecked by it. It’s OK, and it’s normal. And somewhere in the swirling vortex of pain that loss is causing you is the non-acceptance of that pain (which is your suffering), and that non-acceptance is causing you to keep from leaning into the pain and letting that pain transform you into the kind of person who would get a deep and profound meaning from the new purpose that it gives you.
Somewhere in the chaos is a tiny fleck of light, which is the light at the end of the tunnel through it. But you have to stare deep into the abyss to find that tiny fleck of light to begin with. Look at that fleck of light in the middle of the chaos, and you’ll see a vision of your future self.
What that end result looks like to you is a personal thing, and I would suggest writing about it. Having a story to tell yourself about what happened, and where you’re going, and what could happen if your best vision of the future comes true, and what could happen if your worst vision of the future comes true… well, that should provide you with more intrinsic motivation than you’ll ever need.

Sounds pretty typical. Meditate on it and realize that this will pass.

What you see on peoples faces is what they CHOOSE to show, remember that. A lot of people hide their problems behind their smiles.
But overall, back to answering your question it ultimately depends on your goals/philosophy in life. Do you want to get married? Have kids? Travel? Or do you want to live the bachelor life (mgtow)?
For me personally, I live my life with a combination of different philosophies and goals.
One of my main philosophies I live by quoted by Neil De grasse Tyson, “To lessen the suffering of others and to know more about the world than what I knew yesterday.”
I established early on that I did not want to get married, let alone have kids. Parenthood doesn’t appeal to me. I like my sleep. I like my money. I like my time. My goal is to retire as early as possible so I can enjoy my hobbies, travel and read a fuck ton of books. Life is finite. Do what the fuck you want to do.
