I'm working on improving myself (going back to school, lifting/losing weight etc) but when I compare myself to guys my age (and even younger) I'm extremely behind. Just the other day this kid at the gym (maybe 16-18) was deadlifting 345 lbs like it was nothing (dude probably weighed like 150 lbs). It's not just the gym, most guys my age are doing pretty well for themselves financially too. it's hard not to compare myself to all this and it's quite frankly super depressing.

Hey man, I'm at a very similar situation like yours. I'm 24, and all my friends are far ahead of me in school and girls.
For a while I had the same thought patterns like you, but I realized a few things:
there's a good reason they stay my friends, they like me a lot and I like them, so I'm probably the only one to think about it this way.
Good luck :)

Get rid of that jealousy and focus on whats meant for you, put your energy back into you.

Never compare yourself to others because you'll always find something about yourself to be disappointed about.

Instead of focusing on those ahead of you, realize how many are behind you because they don’t garbage heap to teach them. You’re focusing on the wrong thing. You are the focus.

LMAO only in this clown world do people find being fucking 23 too old to do anything. This blind fetishism of youth needs to stop. You'll look back at this time in 10 years and realize how dumb you are

Your pathetic insecurities and perspective you've gathered from being a young male in a western country is not a 'fact' idiot, learn what that word means
Literally everyone still sees you as a kid, because you are still a fucking kid. This society has actually prolonged adolescence to the point when a 23 year old still finding his way is acceptable, this complete opposite of the shit you're spouting. Dumb dumb, more than 75% people past the age of 45 don't even have retirement savings. Most 23 years olds aren't doing shit. And honestly, why do you even care so much? Young people nowdays think because they aren't a celebrity or the talk of the town they don't exist. Learn to stop seeking external validation so much and do your own thing. Again in 10 years you'll laugh at yourself and wish to go back to being a 23 year old

It isn't not as hard as you think to catch up. The standard "better than most guys" isn't particularly high.

I'm extremely behind.
Duh, you just started. Of course you are behind those that have been at it for 2-3-4 years. And if you focus and work hard, in 2 years, some other new guy will be impressed watching you lift.

Never compare yourself to others, but always measure against who you were yesterday. Or last week. Or last month.
Whether it’s sex, lifting, career or anything in your life, self-improvement is a personal journey. You can never know your own success or progress if you’re measuring with someone else’s ruler.
Drake is a megastar but if we compare his net worth to someone like Jeff Bezos, he’s nothing. Know that this is your journey to take and grow on so you should only be looking at yourself.

No matter how good you are at something, there is always someone better. Just try to be the best you, you can be.

Understandable. One thing to realize is everyone holds their own insecurities as well. That guy deadlifting 300+ is still on his journey and probably has someone he envies himself.
Also, if you’re embarrassed about lifting at the gym because you’re not where you want to be it’s important to know that literally no one cares how much you lift. I used to have this fear pretty bad, but the truth is everyone is too busy minding their business and actually getting shit done to worry about someone else. I suggest you do the same.
