What state? Georgia has age of consent at 16. Florida is 18 with the exception of being within a certain age range so 15 y/o aren't going to jail for sleeping with other 15 y/o's. Last I was told was if you are under 25 and she is 17 you are good to go. Check your local laws.

First, you say you "live in the US," but that doesn't give you the complete picture. Laws about consent vary by state, with some as low as 16, and others 18. Check your state individually and look at the rules. Also, taking her across state lines (like for a trip) and having sex there, could result in a charge based on the way the federal "Mann Act" has been used.

And, if it's legal from an age of consent standpoint, they still could technically push other things, like a "contributing to the delinquency of a minor" charge if parents pushed it based on something you helped her do. Also, the parents can get a civil protection order if they want. However, both of these are unlikely in your situation, since it's only 3 years and she is so close to 18. But, ultimately the police and parents can be dicks, even if ultimately they couldn't get a charge to stick.

Also avoid sending any nudes or accepting nudes, since as far as I can tell, that's an 18+ thing, not an age of consent issue.

All that being said, most parents and police aren't going to care about a 17 year old dating a 20 year old, unless you're a total jerk or bad boy that angers the parents.

A lot of people here don't know what the fuck they're talking about. Yes it's Legal to fuck a 17 year old if the age of consent says it is BUT a lot of states where the age of consent is 16+ it's only legal if you were in a commented relationship before you or the your SO were 18. Ex 17(you) 16(SO) you turn 18 she turn 17 it's legal bc you were in a relationship before you turned 18 BUT here another thing bc she is still under 18 her parents can have you arrested for statutory rape and if you have any nudes of her it can lead to child pornography charges. Yes It's extreme but it can and has happened before.
