It has come to our attention that a reporter is requesting interviews for a newspaper article about the Red Pill, this time specifically about women being involved with a group with a reputation as misogynistic. They've approached some of our members at RedPillWomen this week.
If you are asked to do an interview, we ask that you consult the mod team before agreeing.
To the reporters: We appreciate the interest and publicity, but this isn't our first rodeo. We've experienced reporters who approached us under false pretenses, then went and wrote a slam piece. This practice leaves us jaded, cynical, and reluctant to cooperate; keep this in mind because it makes the work of all journalists more difficult in the future. Feel free to contact the Mod Team directly at the link above.
Edit to clarify some points that have come up:
- We're aware that we cannot directly control what reporters ultimately write, the flow of information, etc
- We CAN achieve better outcomes by informed engagement of reporters, as opposed to stonewalling or naive engagement
- We're not demanding you seek our permission, nor limiting what you can or cannot say
- This is an invitation to consult with senior TRP members like RedPillSchool, who have experience with interviews
- I'm a mod at RedPillWomen, for those wondering who brings this announcement

I think it should be stated that trp us a tool box where you pick the concepts and ideas that would most readily apply to you to use. That trp is actually a lot of grey nuances much like any subject matter and that any single individual can not possibly represent all aspects of trp. That said journalism is not about factual recounts but whatever drives clicks. Whoever does engage with them please state that their opinion is only that, just their opinion... a slice of their trp interpretation

Oh I hope they pick me.

If a journalist wants to prove that there's misogyny on the internet, why not just cite to a few of my posts. I could use the free publicity. Maintaining internet infamy is hard work.

there's just no way this place will ever get a fair shake from a reporter lol. Let's be real

It takes time (years) to internalize everything. This reporter reaching out to randoms and attempting to write about this community is disturbing. I don't expect anything positive to come out of it, save for the fact that TRP will get more exposure (and as a result a few new members). Especially when you consider anger phase.

If the reporter is hot, bang. If not, next, obviously.
VigilantRedRooster 7y ago
I can't wait to see how THAT story is spun! /s

What do we as a community could gain from such an interview?
The MSM will not portray us while keeping an open mind, and evidently of the subscriber count, we don't need the publicity for men to find their way here.
VigilantRedRooster 7y ago
There is much to be said for the saying, "No such thing as bad publicity." Even the slam pieces, like criticisms elsewhere on Reddit, drive curious people to us who become subscribers. The negative effects they cause are harder to observe and therefore quantify.

This is a bit of a lose lose. There was a well spoken MOD from TRP a few months back that did an interview (I thought he did a great job in the interview) and the reporter still tried to turn it into a slam piece. I hope RPW has better luck with message control then TRP has. We are just stuck in an era with very, very, little genuine reporting and a whole lot of sensationalized for profit journalism.

No. That was just a well done public troll opportunity. This was like a written Q & A piece. I can't remember who wrote it now. Maybe someone else who remembers it can help.

It was RPS.
JackGetsIt 7y ago
Thanks! I just noticed that he posted a comment in reference to his multiple interviews on this same thread topic in redpillwomen.

I agree reporting today is mostly junk, but they'll probably write about us whether we participate or not, so careful engagement is a better path than attempting to stonewall them.
This warning is to keep people from naively believing that the reporters should be taken at face value about their intentions, and unwittingly being baited into saying things that can be twisted against us.

Someone who has a very tenuous grasp on TRP will give a ridiculous interview that is then span wildly out of context, I guarantee it.

"strange internet misogynistic cult" one of them openly admitted.

If the reporter wants to write negative stuff, they'll just find someone to say a bunch of garbage and then quote whatever sounds the most obnoxious. Since we don't have 'card carrying members' they can find anyone to pretend to be Red Pill for a twenty second soundbite.
redpillveteranguy 7y ago
Or have one of their own pretend as a Red Piller. I don't get why the mods are entertaining this. You don't talk about TRP.
meh613 7y ago
We could... But, what would a RP membership card include?

WGAF about the card, I want the membership packet:
• DON'T GET MARRIED bumper sticker

• subscription to the TRP book-of-the-month club
^^attn: ^^reporters, ^^I ^^have ^^no ^^comment
meh613 7y ago
Clearly, someone does. If people are interested, I can get similar cards for everybody.
