Decided to make a post out of this since my comment would be drowned otherwise. I'll keep it short.
A hot girl doesn’t make you nervous because she’s hot, she makes you nervous because sleeping with her represents a personal victory, and getting rejected by her represents a personal defeat.
While this is correct, it doesn't explain WHY it is a personal victory / defeat.
It's all about value. All of us have a certain idea about our own SMV. Women have this too. When a low SMV man approaches a woman, who perceives herself as higher SMV than that man, she will take it as an insult. Why? Because she believes the man to be of a lower SMV, and if he thinks he has a shot with her, he must see her SMV as close to his. This is the insult: the man implicitly tells the woman she's low(er) SMV. Experienced redpillers will have been approached by lower SMV women and thought: 'you really believe you stand a chance getting with me?'. Couple this with insecurity and you get a woman's mind, and why they take it as an insult/personal defeat.
TRP's goal is to increase SMV. When you've 'proven' your SMV by (repeatedly, or LTR) getting a woman of a certain SMV, you'll no longer get nervous with women of her SMV. 'Hot girls' that make you nervous will have a higher SMV (in your own subjective opinion) than you attribute to yourself. This poses the opportunity to measure your perceived SMV in her eyes, and your own: getting with 'hot girls' (consistently) means your SMV is above theirs (women only date up)!
So getting with this hot girl feels like a true evaluation of your SMV, and thát is what makes you nervous.
If you would get her, it'd feel like a personal victory (higher SMV). If you wouldn't it'd feel like a personal defeat (lower SMV).
Disclaimer: how women see your SMV depends on how you act. If you get nervous, she'll know, and link it with a low self worth (low SMV). Take the woman of the pedestal, ignore your emotion, be rational, behave as you would with a low SMV girl and prove her (and yourself) your SMV is higher than hers!

There is no such thing as a 7-10 girl.
There is only 4-6.
1-3 is invisible to you. Too ugly or fat or old to be considered.
4 is barely doable.
5 is what you'll settle for on an off day.
6 is usually doable but not something you'd jump through hoops for.
7-10 is a 6 with makeup and hair styled, tan, etc.
Find the hottest girl you can think of, now look at a photo of her without makeup and without her hair done up perfect.
No girl wakes up in the morning anything better than a 6. Once you understand this, you should no longer be nervous. Talking to a 6 is nothing. They are all 6 or below.
Now if the girl has some kind of talent like she can sing and cook or has rich parents that you can leverage and other shit that will add some value to your life beyond pussy, sure bump it up above a 6. But at first impression you will never know about all that so you'll never be approaching anything higher than a 6 if you're basing it solely on looks.

I stopped paying attention to any mention of HB7-ness or such on reddit long ago.
Every damn girl is rated as a HB8 regardless so it is a meaningless term....and pointing it out raises the ire of many of the posters.

Funny - when I started I thought I was fucking HB8s. As I got better, the women I got were better and I realized that the prior ones were not HB8s. Point is - it's all relative. If you've never fucked anyone and then you fuck someone she's gonna be an HB8+ because you have no experience.
These days I go with 0 or 1 - I think it keeps you from overanalyzing the situation.

It disproportionately describes the guys here. If they were a success they would not need TRP. Being completely honest. I take every Field report with a grain of salt and understand a lot of guys are keyboard warriors with creative imaginations. Some guys might even have a 100% understanding of TRP and game theory and pickup but aren't applying it in their lives.
I'm here for example because I'm married and learning to get my wife to put out more, how and when I want her to, and in exotic ways that I want. While I have sex with her at least once a week (usually twice) it is usually missionary or some variation of that and not near satisfactory to me. I am aso a father and have several kids with her. We are busy, we are tired, we run out of time. I didn't have a father to teach me how to balance all of that. I didn't have a father to teach me how to maintain attraction. I was honestly a bit lost as to what to do. Since picking up TRP things have definitely gotten better with her. But more importantly I'm learning to put myself first and seeing how my self improvement is benefitting my family.
If I was 100% happy and successful I would need TRP. But I'm not, maybe moreso than others, but nowhere near I wish I was.

I discovered this point recently because I do not hang out with several women. But this is fucking true.
One morning in my university we had a big exam. That morning I saw a 8-9 girl without make up. Believe me, I know now that she is at best a 6 : she has acne scar, a bad skin. Besides, some of my friends are girls and I already saw them without make up. This is sometimes ugly.
So, because I did not give a damn about make up I decided to look deeper into make-up. And guys, you know what ? I found out many guys have a better skin than most girls without make-up. This is fucking true. You can use an hydrating cream for those who have a very dry skin. Why ? Because women put a lot of shit in their face in fact and do not clean it well at the end of the day. Also, most of thel do not do sport, and have bad habits (smoking, too much drinking, bad eating). So, really guys we have most of the time a better natural skin than the 8-10 girl you have in front of you.
What's my point ?
A girl without make up or very less make up is far more attractive to me, because I know I'm not going to be mislead.

Totally agree. I just wash my face each day. Very clear skin. The face and scalp create enough oil you shouldn't need lotion for your face, but I do put it on arms and legs otherwise I get ashy.
These cake-face girls, they can't go a single day without makeup because they are addicted to the illusion they've cast. They are addicted to the attention they get from their lie of an appearance. But as you said, they pay the price for it. The makeup eventually destroys their skin. When they aren't in makeup, many of them look worse than a 6, I'd consider some a 4.
