I disappeared from social media 3 months ago, no facebook, no Whatsapp, no dating websites, I also sold my smartphone, and downgraded to an old blackberry, I saw only pros :
- More time to do other activities ( fishing, learning english/spanish, gym, karate)
- Some girls reaching me by calls or SMS
- Approaching girls in public
If I have an advice for you guys, it's to disappear from the virtual world (forever or for a while just to try), in the start it will be difficult because you are addicted to this shit, but it gets better after a while )
P.S : English is my 3rd language, you may find incoherences in my writing.

Been social media free (with Reddit as the exception) since July 2016. Was a weird adjustment at first but single handedly the healthiest decision I've made in the past decade. Highly recommended it to anyone.

I'd say you should just delete everyone that is annoying or that isn't important to you. It's better. I went from 700 smth friends to 50 and now it's all good. There is a lot less publications and notifications. I don't spend any time on it anymore, except to organize things.
mcr00sterdota 9y ago
I have Facebook. Maybe I'll post once every 2-3 months? Besides the messenger Facebook is useless.
Username_2017 9y ago
I realized that I had Snapchat and Instagram for three years now because a girl I was orbiting downloaded them on my phone and made my profiles for me, because apparently it's just that important. I kind of used them, but then I realized I don't even like these apps. It was just that girl I used to like whom I haven't spoken to in years now. I saw that her boyfriend's Instagram just had a picture of them two and figured that she must have also done the same with him. She took that picture. So I deleted them. Instagram and Snapchat are for teenage girls. They're the girliest forms of social media. I then decided to disable my Facebook account for at least a while if not forever.
KingAriez 9y ago
you don't have to delete it just don't use it
frankiejholden 9y ago
I love FB. It is personal brand management.
kez88 9y ago
Quitting social media doesn't relate to any of those things. You can have a fb and snapchat and spend all of 2 minutes on them if you want.
If you're the type of guy who can't have a fb or social media because you get addicted to it, then you need to change what kind of guy you are, not quit social media.
coolred8611 9y ago
Addictions are hard to break. I just recently dumped everything...had a relapse of twitter last night. But besides that not having social media has really boosted my productivity because I'm not worried about what everyone else is doing.
But yes, the changes in yourself still have to be made.
[deleted] 9y ago
The point of these posts about quitting jerking off or social media is that It's easier to change what kind of guy you are by avoiding the things holding you back.
[deleted]
The_Best_01 9y ago
Exactly. Around 5 years ago, I used to spend like 30 mins on FB and Twitter. Then I realized what a waste of time it was and now spend maybe 5 mins on them, and only to check notifications.
AncientScrolls 9y ago
Exactly OPs post about quitting FB is like telling everyone to stop using a knife to cut food, because they can also kill people. Truth is its all about your mentality. If you know how to use FB properly to market yourself to those around you, just like a business use social media to market their products. You can make your SMV increase much easier and make girls more interested at you. As long as you dont become an attention whore and post something every 5 minutes. Just post every now and then. I rarely check my fb feed and only post stuff sometimes but when i do i get a lot of likes and comments from chicks and friends.
yomo86 9y ago
Technically yes, but I think humans have a natural predisposition to know other humans, machs tend to over-do it even. So there is this instant gratification spike when using FB and OKC and Tinder etc. I just deleted this stuff except for WhatsApp; while I would like to discard it, the absence of it creates not a perception as a mystery but as an anachronistic person.
kez88 9y ago
I pretty much guarantee no chick thinks 'oooo he's so mysterious' if you don't have a fb/insta/snapchat/whatever. She probably doesn't even think about it, or about you, because you never enter her mind now. If you can pull it off without it, good for you, but to me its just shooting yourself in the foot and then trying to say its to your benefit.
Scroph 9y ago
It depends. Do the drawbacks of keeping a FB account outweigh the benefits ? In that case I'd delete the thing. It's like staying friends with your former GF after the breakup. The drawbacks often outweigh the benefits so it's better to remove her from your life.
kanyewost 9y ago
lol fuck having facebook anymore, everyone is on it old people, parents, seniors, employers, its no longer catered to our generation anymore since it went public, they might as well call it the online human directory
FruitAndNutDelight 9y ago
they do call it that, or just 'facebook' for short
curiously_crazy 9y ago
Not just since it went 'public' (I'm assuming you're speaking of their IPO) but since it went 'public' instead of just being for Uni students.
I don't bother with it anymore, but it was actually half decent when it was Uni students only, and before all the SJW warrior bullshit infiltrated Unis (2004/2005).
kez88 9y ago
What are the drawbacks of fb? You can literally spend as little or as much time on it as you want. What are the benefits? It's way easier to keep in contact with people, organise events, display social status/proof, connect with girls, get hit up by girls, promote yourself and generally be a social outgoing person.
What are the benefits of NOT having fb? Maybe you don't spend 5-10 minutes a day on it. Are you really being so productive 24/7 that you don't have 10 minutes a day to post or do something on FB?
If you're spending hours just scrolling through the feeds of fb/insta/snapchat etc I agree, too much social media is a bad thing, but to remove it entirely is just stupid and is throwing away all the positives of it because you got addicted to it. Just because people get addicted to painkillers doesn't mean you need to remove pain killers and anesthesia entirely from medicine
curiously_crazy 9y ago
No more privacy invasion than you're already confronted with in the US without any choice of your own. At least with Facefarce you have a choice to not be a part of the police state.
Everything you say, every photo you post, every link between people you know are logged, recorded, analysed and distributed.
But yeah I get it. No-one seems to give a fuck about privacy these days.
Scroph 9y ago
What I'm saying is that it's subjective. For both you and me, FB is useful so we keep it. For others, that might not be the case. For example, they might want to stay under the radar for one reason or another, they might not be OK with the idea of having their preferences monitored and stored somewhere, they may realize that they spend too much time on it, etc.
Not from medicine, just from the unsupervised addict. Addiction implies that a person doesn't have enough self control to use a substance within the correct dosage. If you're addicted to a substance and intend on quitting, chances are you don't just leave it lying around the house because you can't trust yourself with it. And even in this case it's subjective. Do they want to quit or just reduce the consumption ? Do they do it progressively or cold turkey ? It depends on the circumstances of the individual.
p3n1x 9y ago
This really comes off like an "against the grain" reply. (and the upvotes).
If you are using it to monitor & get pussy, OK'ish I guess? Other than that, what benefit does it offer?
What are you getting accomplished in those "2 minutes"?
Sorry, but you can't really comment about addiction while using the product. i.e. "I only smoke one cigarette a day, I'm not addicted"
kez88 9y ago
All social media is for is to get pussy, stay in contact easier with mates and occasionally see what people are up to. Having a good fb or insta or snapchat or whatever doesn't take up that much time at all, and can give you a lot of benefits. Social media is just an amplification of who you already are. If you're already a loser, social media won't help you and you probably may as well delete it, if you're already a cool, social, alpha guy and it shows on social media, then it will be a good benefit for you. So the trick is to become a cool, social, 'alpha guy' and then post about it on fb/snapchat/insta. It literally takes 1 minute to make a post or take a snap about whatever cool thing you're doin.
p3n1x 9y ago
Advertisement makes one "alpha"?
patx123 9y ago
Incoherences? No, awesome post, really. Very effective advice too.
That_Deaf_Guy 9y ago
deleted WhatsApp a couple days ago due to many groups/constant messages.. although I had no vibration/pop up notifications etc, it still bothered me how much time I spent on it. Now people only text/ring me if it's important or needs to be said.
Having an instant messaging app makes you way too available, meaning people will be more willing to send you irrelevant garbage.
dmou 9y ago
If you really have to have a fb (or any other social network) account, an effective tip I would give you is to remove the app from your phone and only use it at the pc/laptop.
Most of us have our phones with us all the times and that's how we really get hooked up, receiving notifications and doing these "harmless" 10 second checks at every five minutes.
That way you will manage to still have it, but use it much less. And once it becomes a habit you won't even notice that you are now barely using any of these websites.

[deleted] 9y ago
I'm glad you at least stayed with a relatively modern phone. I always see stories like this where people will go to a dumbphone or flip phone expecting it to improve their lives and yet they give up many, many things that could make it easier; GPS, notes, Spotify, etc.
In general, dropping social media is always a good idea. I have a Twitter for my freelance work and a Snapchat with the only person on it being my girlfriend so she can send me nudes once in awhile.
Everything else was gone a long time ago. If I could remove myself from the Internet even further, I would.
EDIT: Also, your English is pretty damn good for it being your 3rd language.
Oz70NYC 9y ago
I'm actually considering ditching FB myself. If people want to reach me, let them send me a text or call me. As a matter of fact, this post has inspired me. Time to free up some space on my phone...
JackGoldsteinWrites 9y ago
Unfortunately, a huge part of my job is networking and acting important.
So I have to use FB and LinkedIn to keep in touch with people.
That said, here are some tips. Firstly, you have to consider it a self-updating contact book, not a source of entertainment or news. I have 1,800 friends and over 2,000 LinkedIn contacts.
On FB, as soon as someone adds me or I add someone, I immediately unfollow. Out of my 1,800 friends, I get status updates from my sister, girlfriend, best friend and 2-3 other people. I did this at about 600 friends, took 2 hours to unfollow everyone, and its huge.
I didnt bother doing this on LinkedIn because everyone on there is just humble-bragging about themselves or trying to look like a CEO, so I never feel enticed to read it anyway.
For the others, they are basically useless for me, and there is no need to use them. I can't think of one deal or business relationship for me that began on twitter. OTOH, if I was a public figure I would probably use Twitter to speak directly to my constituents. Current POTUS is a great example of how to use Twitter. But I don't need it so its deactivated.
Instagram is a complete shit show full of attention whores. I downloaded it and it was gone after 5 mins.
These are like all technology. You can let them use you, or you can use them. Same as cell phones... is the cell phone your master? Do you always look at it and answer it when it makes a noise? Or are YOU the master - you look at it when it suits you and use it when it suits you?
If you can't be the master, its totally fine, admit it to yourself and just turn off the phone and de-activate FB. Thats better than being a slave.
RedditAdminsSuck_88 9y ago
This is good advice. I am now 13 months social media-free(deleted it all on New Year's Day January 1 2016).
Never once have I looked back or regretted it.
The fact that you need social media for game and proof is a myth. Develop and improve yourself so all the proof you need is within yourself and not the facade you create on your social media accounts. Social media is a crutch.
MeisterMGTOW 9y ago
I've never been on "social media". Social media id for women, manginas and fucking retards.
p3n1x 9y ago
When you become "available" to a woman, she will lose interest very quickly. These products make a person "available".
There are expectations and obligations to social tools. Whether you think you do or not, you do "explain yourself" when you don't reply in a way she wants. Another turn off.
You can't be out in the open and mysterious at the same time.
You DO NOT need 'Social Media Social Proof' to be desirable or attractive to a woman.
Scriptopeia 9y ago
I agree that Facebook is disgustingly addictive (atleast for me).
Often times I will just open the tab and type in "f" for facebook, check the website and see nothing new and close it. 10 Seconds later I do the same thing again without even thinking. It became a bad habit.
But I need to add that I got quite some numbers by simply adding a person I met and had good chemistry with (on a party, event, etc.) and exchanging a few words which so far always lead to getting their number.

Stop watching television.
Stop reading the generic MSM. ("Main Stream Media")
Spend a limited, but useful time in the Manosphere.
Spend a limited, but useful time reading Alt Media for news.
RPpieceofgarbage 9y ago
I've been considering the downgrade for some time
Katavasis 9y ago
While i appreciate your effort and i am glad you are seeing positive results with this,i must say for younger guys social media is at least necessary to be in the in-crowd.
If i meet a guy and he says 'I don't have a facebook(or insta etc)' i know he is a bit socially inept and has little to no social life. And i am right 99% of the time. That's the hard truth.
Now,being a RP guy you may not fall in this category, but people don't know that.To them you are coming off as described above, for better or worse. It's almost creepy for women, since they use them so much.
And besides, how much time you spend on social media is up to you.If you are addicted to them, then you have an addiction related problem not a social media related problem.

No social media sites except whatsapp and snapchat.
I close girls on snapchat sometimes when they are kind of hesitant or when the interaction is pretty short. The point is that you can show them on snapchat how awesome your life is without any like/share bullshit . She doesn't know how many people see your snaps but if you constantly put it out showing hot shit she'll think you have people out there who like you. You should snap things which spikes their emotions so that she remembers you. Now when you ask her out , she is already pretty comfortable. Its not like facebook , she doesn't know anything else except your snaps. So keeps the mystery.
Plus , this also forces you to live an awesome life as you have to constantly put effort into hot shit.
Scroph 9y ago
Frankly I've been on both sides of the fence and the only reason why I'm keeping it right now is because it's useful. For instance, I have access to 0.facebook.com (no pictures, only text) which is free, so you can essentially keep in touch with your friends and family without spending a dime. This is especially useful for school-related announcements, I'm subscribed to a group where people share those kind of things and you get to read them for free. Professors know this too, this way students no longer have the excuse of "my data plan expired so I couldn't check my email and that's why I didn't do the assignment".
Another useful aspect is joining career-oriented groups. I get some pretty useful tips from there and it's thanks to them that I am now enrolled in a masters program (people shared old entrance exams and interview questions).
It was also extremely useful when it came to catching low life thieves and exposing the corruption that plagues my country. Things like these used to go under the radar but now, with how easy it is to film someone and share the video or even stream it through Facebook live, it became much more difficult for them to get away with it.
These were the pros. The cons are that it's engineered to be addictive (red notifications, (1) on the title bar, etc.) and that it's extremely bloated. I'm actually forced to use the mobile version on my laptop due to how slow the desktop version is. It also destroys any mystery you might have left, people can stalk your profile and pretty much profile you. Even people you're not friends with, if you have friends in common then they'll check your profile on their friend's phone or something. You can keep it empty but the temptation is there and you have to resist it, which is more difficult than just closing it altogether.
As far as deactivating it is concerned, it was a very liberating experience that made me realize how much time I had wasted on it prior to that point. You no longer have to witness nor take part in the unspoken penis measuring contests of FB, which by the way is something that messes with the heads of all those who are involved. I only came to this realization after I closed my account for a while then logged back in. I was hit in the face with an insane amount of passive aggressiveness and humblebragging, something that I had thought to be normal when I was part of that community.
The con of closing facebook is pretty much the absence of the aforementioned pros so I'll refrain from reiterating.
p3n1x 9y ago
This is one of those rare exceptions. You in no way use FB like the majority of the population in the States.
Scroph 9y ago
I'd say it's either cultural or it depends on the age bracket of the users. Older people are less likely to use it in the same way a youngster does. I'm a quarter century old so that puts me in the middle of "discard it completely" and "use it obsessively".
p3n1x 9y ago
Older women / Milfs use it more than anyone else.
Shitonya_Johnson 9y ago
It's only a problem if it rules your life. It's pathetic it's such a consuming thing for people. I pretty much check FB when I take a shit or when my band puts up a flyer. That's it. If I spend more than 5 minutes on it my misanthropy goes through the roof. I almost immediately stop following people because it's always posts about their dinner or their fucking dog.
People need some fucking hobbies.
VickVaseline 9y ago
I'm not on social media and never have been. I have no idea what draws people to it. I'm always surprised when I see that any of the guys on this sub are into social media at all, let alone "addicted" to it.
blackedoutfast 9y ago
keep it but unfollow everyone else
stephcurrythrowaway 9y ago
Actually leaving or just not posting at all. I did that on twitter for a month or so and posted something and a girl started freaking out that i was back.
[deleted] 9y ago
Did same thing almost half a year ago. Does wondrous things to amounts of free time and to mental well being.
entj4life 9y ago
The amount of free time and mental well being is a huge benefit.
There's also the mystery factor; I've heard girls who say when a guy doesn't have social media, they love him even more (iff he has high SMV). Probably because it makes him unique or it makes him less likely to cheat on her if he were to DM other girls.
However, social media is worth it if you do cool shit and want to show off to increase your value (traveling, art, craftsmanship, cooking exotic foods, etc). Just don't post too frequently or else you're seen as too common (48 laws of power - absence increases love. if you're seen too much, then people tire of you)
FB is also useful for events. If a bro is throwing a get together, sometimes the only way you'd hear about it is through FB.
The optimal way to use social media is to rarely if ever browse it in order to save your mental sanity, but then post to it when you're doing cool stuff to increase your value.
Unfortunately, way too many people get sucked into the social media void which affects their mental state negatively, so sometimes it is better to just delete it. Also, while you may be increasing your value to 1000+ people, about 95% of them you won't give a shit about and will rarely see again in person, so the benefit of "increasing your value" is questionable. And the people who really give a shit about you won't care if you don't post anything on social media.
BuzzedNig 9y ago
Facebook is for faggots. Stop posting pictures of yourself and stop fishing for likes.
Mehnou 9y ago
Good for you, but don't you think social media has a positive side too ? It's like a two edged sword imo .
shipintbrief 9y ago
Why do you considering whatsapp an social media when it's just free texting?
That_Deaf_Guy 9y ago
gonna copy and paste my comment from this thread:
schwb 9y ago
I'm not in the US, but after a little search, the cost of an SMS is $0.0075 per message -> a girl that invest $0.0075 to respond your message is better than the one who chats with you freely, here you establish a mutual investment.
The point with removing Whatsapp is the time gained, many people lose a lot of time responding messages in whatsapp and chatting with tons of people without any aims
[deleted] 9y ago
Do people still have to pay for texting in 2017?

social media works very well if you know how to use. i don't post anything but people (chicks) always tag me in a bunch of cool shit
schwb 9y ago
oh cool, you've got that going for you, which is nice.
[deleted] 9y ago
I kinda think one cigarette a day is one too many. Just like 2 minutes of Facebook/Instagram/Snapchat a day aren't sane unless you really benefit from it. So I def support deleting this triad. Whatsapp I don't know. Always nice to text someone and have a nice profile pic associated to it, because girls are swarmed with texts and you gotta put a face on a number.
I'm still on tinder tho because easy sex and abundance yadda yadda. So I got a mock Facebook acct, no friends on it. When girls ask for social media, I tell them I'm focusing on my career with important goals this year (which is true). It's good enough to get a "oh wow ok" and a number.
I really need to get used to talking to girls in places that are unusual to me, such as the NYC subway. Was standing in front of a true 9 this morning, catching glances, getting in and out of the train at the same stations.... and didn't talk to her. 0 issues at the bars, or the gym, but the subway? Couldn't move an inch. I wanted to smash my head against a wall. Social media turns us into deep autists.

It's my own comment, I didn't copy anyone's comment.
After I commented, I thought it was a good idea if I made it a post .. what's wrong with that ?

FredWeedMax 9y ago
Wait i never said you copy pasted someone's else comment, but i said you didn't add anything to your own comment and made it a post
Problems reading ?
Not saying the idea you're trying to convey is bluepill or bad, just that you don't add much to what's an already widely spread idea around here (quit social media, start doing real stuff)
schwb 9y ago
We tend often to forget about all the materials/good articles shared here.
From my point of view, I think it's not a bad idea to refresh someone's memory about that topic, and especially sharing the fact that quitting social media helped me a lot improving the quality of my life.
Anyway, even if in your eyes the contribution of my post is slim to none for the community, I respect your point of view.

senorAUGUSTUS 9y ago
I'm very new to TRP, but facebook has gotten me quite a few digits.
First off, unless the person changes their settings, facebook displays people's digits.
Second, I have a love hate relationship with facebook. I deactivate and come back all the time. If I'm talking to a lady on fb only and I get in the mood to leave I give them my number. I say, hey I'm leaving fb, and you're cool so if you wanna to chat sometime hit me up. my number is (123) 456 7890. I've had a 100% success rate with this. If they are worth pursuing, they hit me up. If they don't hit me up, they are a waste of time.
ForgedInProdigy 9y ago
Facebook allows unsubscribing from users, there's nothing stopping you from setting it up as a news feed from certain groups. I set it up to serve nothing. That way I get to use messenger to talk to my friends and sign up for events that I am interested in without wasting my time looking at profiles or gazing at the timeline feed.
Technology remains a tool. Instead of pruning that chunk out of your life altogether, why not learn to use it effectively? I used to be very agnostic of new tech trends, but by being self-aware of my usage I've adapted some of these technologies to better serve me.
You make a good point about taking some time off can help you get a better grasp at your dependency though.
TheRedStoic 9y ago
Nice advice. I only use SM for business, and occasionally to check pictures people face marked me in. The one major upside of it is the sheer amount of passive social proof you can advertise for pretty much nothing at all except letting people take pictures with you at places.
Aside from that, nope. Better things to do and physical people to meet. Much more rewarding personally.
As far as others have mentioned here, yes it is a problem with the person, but I'd recommend an alcoholic remove alcohol, just as any addict should remove their source of addiction until they've built the proven discipline to handle it responsibly.
ExplodingSamsung 9y ago
Yup. You also start seeing other benefits. Like spatial awareness increases on a massive scale once you get rid of the ease of Google Maps or the like. Printing out directions or memorizing them. etc.. the benefits are endless.
doncucker89 9y ago
Getting rid of google maps? That's a step backwards in time saving and efficiency. Why waste time knowing where useless shit is located?
ExplodingSamsung 9y ago
I'm sorry for your loss. It's a pity you'll never see those benefits.
TedTheAtheist 9y ago
ooorr.. you can just better handle your activities and get the same results.

Facebook made me a bunch of money from different sources/approaches. It is compltely invaluable and everybody has it. It is a tool and you can use it the red pill way or you can write "you look stunning" over your crush`s picture you just fapped to. Mainstream media however is toxic in all ways.
[deleted] 9y ago
Funny, I actually did exactly this (my exact comment was something like "stunning :|") back in high school on MySpace on the picture of a girl I had admired all through high school, and it lead to us talking and she ended up being my gf
idk how the fuck that worked out

I was gonna do this but my girlfriend is one of those women who likes posting everything to social media and showing off, so she got pissy when I said i wanted To delete mine. So I kept the accounts. But ever since then I've lost all interest in social media so I very rarely even use them anyways. I was just disgusted by how much time I used to waste on them
[deleted] 9y ago
Are you a man or a slave to your girlfriend? Delete that shit.
[deleted] 9y ago
Social Media is important to her for some reason and she likes having me on there. My girlfriend makes sacrifices for me because of the things in my life that are important to me, so I'm willing to do the same for her. Besides, it's not a huge deal. I can just leave my accounts up and ignore them, as opposed to making my girlfriend upset by deleting them. Doing it and trying to make some kind of point about masculinity just makes one look like they have a fragile masculine ego, which i dont have
[deleted] 9y ago
All I'm saying is that if you wanted to delete it but stopped because it might upset her, then you need to delete it because YOU wanted to delete it. If your lack of a social media account is enough to jeopardize the relationship, then that relationship needs some work.
