Summary
Be strong. Be true. Be a man. Don't shit where you eat.
Body
I have managed 100+ people in my career in companies with <10 people to >100k people. You know how to deal with men. You DO NOT know how to deal with women. The opportunities and risks are very different.
Lady Boss
Very few women make good bosses. Yes they do exist, but you are unlikely to find them. You will find women who have been brainwashed into thinking that they need to be "strong" (bitchy) to succeed in a man's world. They mistakenly think that acting like a tyrant is being strong. They think that yelling at you when you are wrong/late/inaccurate shows leadership. When they feel pressure from top, they come straight at you and transfer the pressure at you. They think this is moving fast. They will follow BS corporate rules that do not make any sense because they think this is being a good corporate citizen.
Actually, many male bosses are like this too. The corporate world is totally fucked up. In small startups, its a bit better because the team is under 20 people feels like a large family and you need to treat everyone right. In a large corp there is a huge HR department that encourages women to complain about all manner of shit. Real life example: back in the day, there was a "casual friday" rule that allowed people to wear jeans on Fridays. One woman wore jeans on a wednesday and what did one of the other women do? Go and file an HR complaint. HR is jammed with BS complaints like this. Its totally shit -- Im not exaggerating.
To handle a lady boss, treat her exactly like a man. Don't worry, you will lose all attraction to her and she to you. The power relationship is inverted. Never be afraid to dissent. Talk calmly and state facts. Do not let her emotionally rile you up. Do not let her change goal posts.
Boss trick 1: Pressured Estimate
Boss: "Can you get this done by wednesday?"
You: "Friday at least"
Boss: "How about thursday?"
You: "Friday"
Boss: "Why does it take that long?"
You: "Thats my estimate based on experience"
She's trying to pressure you to agree to thursday. If you did and do not deliver, she will shame you/yell at you.
Boss trick 2: Pile more shit on you
Boss: "Hey, this came up urgently, can you do this quick?"
You: "Are you prioritizing this above the work for Friday?"
Boss: ...
You: Cause that will move to monday if I work on this now.
Subtle trick to get you to overwork. She knows you will try hard to keep your earlier commitment
Boss trick 3: Shame
Boss: (in a meeting in front of everyone) You said you would do this by Friday. I see you cant do anything on time.
You: I'll be more conservative in my estimates next time.
Public shaming is punishment.
Boss trick 4: Reduce your resources
Boss: Hey, I have put Jim to work on Project X. Our customer 54 million contract is dependent on it.
You: Do not interfere with my team without my prior permission (Yes, you have a right to say this!)
Again another trick to put more load on you.
The above are examples only. To generalize, you should enforce covenants and boundaries. That is what makes a strong leader, not bitching and trickery.
Lady Peer
First of all, do not ever think of fucking someone you work with. Do not flirt with her. Do not flirt back. Do not go for post-lunch walks with her. Do not have daily tea breaks with her. You can do all of these occasionally, but never regularly.
There was a woman who was flirting with a friend of mine at work. This dude would regularly go to her desk and make small talk/light flirting/banter. I'm a witness to the fact that she initiated this friendship (probably bored at work). Obviously the words they exchanged when printed on paper would sound innocent but it wasn't fooling anyone in the office. Obviously nothing was happening -- It was just regular conversation nothing more.
One fine day, the lady was called in by her boss to talk about underperformance. She immediately claimed that she was distracted because my friend was flirting with her everyday and it was making her uncomfortable and impacting her performance. The bitch basically sacrificed the dude to save her job. My friend underwent months of HR BS and sexual harassment training. Tough shit. Fortunately, they did not fire him -- just moved him to a different group.
Never, ever go to drinks alone with a female peer. This is just like a woman walking alone at night. Nothing may happen 99% of the time. But its the 1% that gets you.
It is best that all activities with your team are group activities. Avoid drinking heavily at work activities, no good ever comes from it.
Note: Hitting on women who are in a totally different team, preferably in a different building are safer but in a large corp, gossip will eventually reach HR. Any allegations of misconduct, even hearsay from jealous betas will result in a workplace investigation. This is required by law. If you start a thing with someone like that, make sure no one from work sees you together (Its also important for her reputation). Meet away from work, hang out and fuck at places where coworkers do not frequent.
Lady subordinate
A female subordinate and you will feel strong attraction to each other due to the power relationship. You should never act on it. The moment you do, you give up all power over her. She can challenge you, go to HR (again for BS reasons). You will forever be tied to her since any attention you give to another female will cause her to display change in behavior that will be obvious to everyone in your team. You will lose credibility and rumors of unfairness will crop up. Its total shit after that. If you break up with her, you better have another team that will accept her because working together will be awkward as fuck and everyone will notice.
However, while you dont act on it, you should understand that when a woman wants you, she will work very hard at her job. Do not pretend that she is a neuter person that just does work for you. She is a woman and acknowledge it. Always be a leader, understand that her desire for you makes a better work relationship. As long as you dont show/act on attraction, the power relationship is maintained and she will rave about what an awesome boss you are.
Extra
Do not flirt with your colleague's wives. The power you get from the support of your team is far great to endanger with such rash behavior

One of the best posts I've read on here tbh. You know your shit man. I'd be interested to see a post about dealing with natural sociopaths/alpha males in the workplace.
alphaalchemy 9y ago
Great post. As someone who has managed large teams at both fortune 100 companies and venture backed start-ups, it's spot on truth. Nice work, and to reiterate, don't fuck people you work with, especially if you are a manager/executive. The juice is never worth the squeeze.

Your corporate companies sound like really shitty places, fuck the whole concept of sexual harassment. Shitty modern life and its stupid laws. If I wanna fuck a coworker og flirt with her I will damn well do so if I so desire, fuck these HR cuntfaces.

Do you work a shit minimum wage job or something? In a professional, career environment it can be devastating to your career long term.
Fedor_Gavnyukov 9y ago
i can personally attest to everything written here. worked for a company owned and run by a woman for over 8 years. the sexism against males was very high. all the manager positions were filled with women and none of them had any clue how to do their job. so literally that they ran the company into the ground (big fucking surprise).
as my step father told me many times before (he ran his own mortgage company for 2 decades): "never hire broads if you want to get shit done"

The [she-wolf] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwbBz59lIQo) bitch!
A little self-control will save most men from falling into the trap. But again there are pussies who cannot control themselves and are always surrounded with female co-workers.

Tldr; don't fuck em like em or put up with their shit.

Great post, especially for those of us in professional office settings. Unique material.
I have one question: how do you deal with women bosses that shame? I am not sure how to react to "Your Boss trick 3: Shame.' From what I see, you can take it, or you can defend yourself (usu. contradict the person), or you can apologize. What do you recommend? I think Laws of Power might recommend not doing anything to make your superior hate you.
no_face 9y ago
You don't need to do anything but keep cool. Shaming erodes her own authority and every member of the team will fear, and later hate her.
If she keeps harping on the same point for more than two sentences, say: "Lets acknowledge this and move on. What is your priority for task x?"
You can try telling her that its considered good management to praise in public and chastise in private.

I've not been in a "high concentration" of women but hospitals, schools etc seem to run fine.
Women work best when their work is people. So teachers, nurses, recruiters, marketers, admin, etc.
I've seen some exceptional women do exceptional work. Needless to say its not most of them.
I've seen plenty of it, however this requires good leadership. Good leaders, male or female will see that what's right is done. Good leadership is extremely rare thing to find unfortunately.
sharp7 9y ago
Schools are run fucking horribly...
stemgang 9y ago
Hospitals and schools seem to work fine? I have to disagree.
At the hospital, all the RNs are busy doing paperwork, and you can't even find a CNA to change a bedpan.
At the school, there are more and more administrators, and smaller and smaller class sizes, but rarely is the question asked: is our children learning?
The pattern is: lots of women want to socialize and do paperwork, but they don't want to do the actual work and be held responsible for results.
SeemedGood 9y ago
Guessing you've never worked in either. Generally speaking, schools and and hospitals are administrative nightmares of control-seeking and constrictive-regulatory soul death.
aanarchist 9y ago
yea i went to a school once when i was a kid, you hit the nail on the head there.
Kardlonoc 9y ago
Yep, going with women work best people in these cases they can focus on the patients, students, customers, etc. In corporate land their focus becomes inward to employees in the company.
Also hospitals, schools, etc have higher generally qualifiers for people joining most of the time. It means smarter women who are more socially aware. Corps and private businesses can hire whoever they want.
[deleted] 9y ago
Hence all the women in HR type positions...
thejesusfish 9y ago
Hahaha women (nurses) are complete bitches in hospitals. They hate their patients, they hate having to take orders from doctors (especially residents and younger docs).
Nurses hate young female docs because they are jealous and constantly try to undermine them. They fuck with male docs because most of them are beta as shit and don't know how to handle a nurse that sasses them.
RF-Guye 9y ago
Gospel. They will respond to an attractive Alpha though.
jupc 9y ago
Being discharged from a hospital's main wing, I was all ready to go, just needed my discharge medication. Asked the head nurse for help, she blew me off. Okay, no problem I'll just ask someone else. Asked another nurse, and the head nurse noticed this, took it as a great personal offense that I skirted her authority, and called security and had me escorted out.
Walked straight next door into the ER. The head of the ER calls the head nurse and gives her a verbal beat down. Back to the main wing of the hospital, security is smiling at me, and I get my medication right away; head nurse is nowhere to be seen lol.

I will not work for a woman boss. Forget it. I don't need my financial progress impeded by unpredictable hormones. I don't care if they are 15 or 50.
Don't dip your wick in the company ink. I have done plenty of girls after they left. But hey, you're spending more weekday waking hours around the office girls than with your plates. So be wise and treat them as unavailable to you.
[deleted] 9y ago
I prefer working with other men too. Group projects in college where I was the only man were hell.
no_face 9y ago
Sometimes you can't choose it since your current boss could be replaced by a female boss. You need to constantly have another job/group ready to accept you in case this happens
HonestyOverCivility 9y ago
Personal story: a female colleague of mine mentioned that women are catty and backstabbing toward each other in the work place. I chimed in saying that I had read a study (co-authored by a man and a woman no less) which found that 100% female groups are less effective than than groups of 100% men. BAM! reported to HR by another woman who overheard. She had a rep as a person who cries misogyny, so nothing happened but still...
Lesson learned: don't say anything remotely critical of women in the work place
bigk12345 9y ago
I work under bunch of women in managerial positions.
It is horrible.
One would constantly give me "deer in headlights" look if I just asked questions and would personally look at it like I'm questioning her intelligence. I even got blamed for her incompetence once where she said I was late on delivering when I did it on time.
I also got called in the office because I apparently raised my voice at a female coworker, which was false. I got called in to speak to a manager and had no clue wtf she was talking about. I felt like I was in intervention.
Separate incident. When some bitch was badmouthing me, writing handwritten notes not to leave any traces of her emailing about me and make an effort to talk loudly about me to others, I went in and talked to a female manager and said it was unprofessional.
In the next few days, I get called in for " performance review" and get absolutely annihilated. Turns out the bitch badmouthing is manager's spy. I stopped sharing anything with my coworkers and management is just a bunch of faggots.
Next time I get an update on my performance , myself and few others on the email are blamed on how our performance IMPROVED SO DRASTICALLY, and how is she supposed to explain that to her management?
Same bitch took away my bonus, patted me on the back and said in a condescending tone that I got my "raise". My work performance was good, but I got destroyed in the rating scale of 1-5 on bullshit like " knows company's vision?. "The raise was to keep up with inflation and everyone got it.
BreathOfDick 9y ago
Cunts. They simply cannot be wrong. To the extent that if someone asks a question about their "logic" that is an insult.
no_face 9y ago
You are in a poorly run company. Unfortunately, this describes 90% of companies today
[deleted] 9y ago
I work for a small business that has been around for a while (10+ years). Both of the owners and the business manager are men. No complaints here. My female coworkers are actually pretty cool (one is annoying as fuck, but is well-intentioned). The subordinates (almost all women) are a disaster. I just avoid them like the plague and bring any issues to the attention of my boss.
Interestingly, I had a female supervisor when I was in the military. It was a complete disaster. She was terrible. And talk about a shitty situation. I ended up getting out of the military because of my dealings with that bitch.
[deleted] 9y ago
This has been my experience so far as well. I have had two female supervisors that took good care of me, however in my case all my female supervisors tended to suck when it comes to doing the actual job, their mentality was more, take care of your people and they will take care of you. Essentially, help them out and they will pick up your slack because you can't/won't do your own job in addition to taking care of them, so they make sure you're fat dumb and happy.

Good post, this all seems familiar... As in it tracks with my workplace experiences. (I'm probably a bit too old for this sub.) I've had one very good lady boss. I think the only female boss I've ever had. And damn if we didn't almost take a roll in the hay. Being married I said no, thanks. And continued a very good work relationship. Female subordinates, ouch, I learned some hard lessons over the years, in terms of awalt, very much so. Once you understand that, managing women becomes much easier to do. Women react and behave differently than men, generally speaking.
BreathOfDick 9y ago
Experiencing boss trick #2 for the past month. Decided yesterday I'll only be checking email first thing in the morning and just straight up ignore anything she "requests". One thing at a time from here out.
awrenj 9y ago
One of the best posts I've read on trp imo. Well put.
HeinousFu_kery 9y ago
If you make the effort to be very polite to the point of being standoffish, you'll make a better impression on everyone.
This can get you introduced to colleagues' wives female friends and that's not a bad thing. Flirting once removed is fair game.
no_face 9y ago
One more thing I'd like to add: If word spreads that you have a habit of harassing female co-workers, you will never be hired for anything but a low position. Your career growth basically dies.
asa93 9y ago
Are you a female?
Tons of high ranked workers are known for such behaviours. Because High power rhymes with High Testosterona and libido.
Look at Domique Strauss Khan, former president of FMI. Ok he got into some troubles and couldnt run for president, but he has been known for harrassing women for DECADES before. And yet he thrived a the top of the world biggest institutions. Same goes for other CEO´S. Because, this is an environment with a lot of men, so they agree on closing their eyes on such behaviours.
But it is changing currently, as there is more and more women in the field.
no_face 9y ago
As someone with visibility on what goes on inside HR and being involved in harassment investigations, my advice stands that you should not harass women due to the legal and career risks.
I'm not sure if you are suggesting its OK to do so or you just have a thought about how high powered men are based on the stories of 0.001% you have heard on TV.
Real life for the average bloke here is very different from Khan or Cosby and almost none of them would get away with anything for decades.
asa93 9y ago
I was not talking about the average bloke if you paid attention, man.
Also, I never said it was ok for me.

goldnhorde 9y ago
My two cents. Everything in from the OP sits in a great category being tell the truth and being straight/fair/not-an-asshole with all of your answers. don't flirt with colleague's wives .... duh
I agree that women try to bully out answers they do not like and that will cause them pressure on deadlines. "why can't it be Friday?" after saying three times it will be Monday. I have had several women bosses but only had one earn my respect. the other ones were less qualified for their jobs than a huge handful of people.
peers - I find the higher the number of women in a team, the less functional the team becomes, even more so when you start putting in "supervisors" at the team level. this is not a knock, it is just a plain observation from someone who works around a lot of women. I mean like 60-75% women, including my boss, which is the really good boss I mentioned above.
to repeat some rules and expand:
NEVER socialize with a woman at work. "Good Morning". "Have a great Night". and work/project talk is all. that's it. they store up information like ammo and use it when they get attacked. HR (Ran mostly by women) ENCOURAGE the smallest reporting in a Nazi fashion. they live for it. my boss years ago was reported to be dating a subordinate (dumbest of the dumbest). in the whirlwind of a bunch of women trying to live out their deepest LIFE TIME MOVIE OF THE WEEK fantasy, they interview me. my response is "I am unable to validate any of the things you are asking me." and I just repeated. they at one point tried to play "bad cop" and threatened my job if I could not validate. I had to actually sign and say "at this point, with the implications you are making and punishments you are leveling at my employment with this company, I feel that I should call an attorney before we go any further." at which point they released me ... without apology of their actions. end of story. he was fired. the women he was having an affair with got a promotion. she immediately (and i mena within two weeks) started dating .... her new manager. I SHIT YOU NOT!!!
You know, work is easy. you get up, you do your job, you go home. Men do this pretty well. Women actually can do this very well too. it does seem on the whole though that a significant percentage MORE of women are just bad workers when it comes to project work. lazy. do just enough. more concerned about their next job than the work in front of them. entitled. thought this was a sit around and do nothing job. same problem that men with poor work habits have, just much more frequent.
I will say this though. I don't mind bad workers (men or women) because they make me look like a superstar.
gkart2890 9y ago
I laughed at that last sentence! Bad co-workers make me look like a genious all the time!
goldnhorde 9y ago
highfive. it is just true.
One of the funniest running gags my friend has with me is when something just dirt dumb happens and I go:
"Now .... there is no way that I am that smart and that guy is that stupid. I know I'm not some genius ... and no one is that stupid"
and my friend goes:
"and yet ... here we are."
no_face 9y ago
Know that when you are a witness in a workplace investigation, they cant do shit to you.
Just say "Asking me to lie is a violation of Title VII. Are you sure you want to go down this path?"
goldnhorde 9y ago
thanks for a better an more informed line.
like I said, obviously what they were doing was wrong. I just didn't know how it was wrong, so I asked to call my lawyer.
you know ... when in doubt call an expert.
jimmyjoejimbob 9y ago
The everything in writing is great when they try to imply that you are being difficult. A woman of middle eastern descent has a habit of getting other people to do her job for her.
I had been requesting information from her for almost three months to set up a new brand and its associated items in the system. Nothing had been forthcoming from her until one day she decides that she needs to report on the products back to head office. She emails me requesting that I set up the information right this minute for her as it is both a priority and urgent. I say that I am busy with another project at the moment and will do it when I get a chance. She replies and copies in my manager heavily implying that I am not doing my job and that I am also being very difficult. She forgot my email trail with dates and times of me asking her for the information I required and I especially highlighted the part where I said that when it becomes urgent for her that I will likely be tied up in another project.
I am still waiting for a response on that one a month later.
goldnhorde 9y ago
I am not sure why this is common, but I hear about it all the time with women in project work.
it's either they just can not understand the method .... or they just fail to acknowledge that other people are doing other things that do not involve them and see them as a exclusive resource that will be free when they need them ... after all ... she hadn't sent you anything, how could you be doing anything else???
epic failure to see big picture situations on her part.
tell me, does she fit the bill that I put above, do you get the impression she got into her field thinking that she just got behind a desk, made calls, and people just shuffle around to met her deadlines with no communication or cooperation?
jimmyjoejimbob 9y ago
To be honest, you have described a number of women I have worked with.
She really wanted to work for the company, came in on a fixed term contract and somehow managed to get a permanent role. I put her behaviour down to her upbringing, I suspect that her family was well off enough to have servants and that she hasn't quite got past that yet despite being out of her homeland for a number of years now.
Her people skills appear to be lacking, her work ethic, when compared to the other women there, is seriously lacking and her competence is severely lacking.
goldnhorde 9y ago
Is this in the US?
she'll do great in big business corporate America. minority women can fail their way forward all day long (I mean most higher level corporate men and women are completely without competence of their real jobs). as long as the company has a picture to hang on the web front page for diversity week and business women month or whatever ... she's golden.

Fuck just reading that made me pissed. You're a strong man, I probably would have smiled then but planned an escape to another job then put a virus on the network before I left.
no_face 9y ago
Another line to use is: "It was an estimate, not a prediction".
They key to successfully dealing with any boss is to not lose your cool. Their perceived power makes you feel helpless and their judgement and poking can easily ruffle your feathers. Be cool and speak calmly.
thecajunone 9y ago
I like that line. It has an extremely subtle, low key fuck you vibe to it.

In addition to the 4 female Boss tricks above: don't forget
5 The completely irrational psycho behaviours that will defy all logic.
I have been in the unfortunate position of working for female managers in the (mangina / politically correct) public sector. You probably guessed it was a nightmare and I will never be repeating it.
My advice: Don't ever work for a female boss!
Chrisganjaweed 9y ago

After 20 plus years in corporate land (fortunately mostly working on trading floors which are male-dominated environments) my experience has dictated that you don't work for them, don't work with them, don't have them work for you, and definitely do not engage with them socially. Keep at ten-foot pole length at all times. Interaction is just not worth the hassle/risk.

I have had two female bosses.
One was in her mid-30s, cool as shit and stayed out of my way and let me do my thing and was nothing but a positive presence when I needed her. She was a very hard worker and lobbied to get me moved from a contractor to a full time permanent. When some of my female coworkers were being cunts, my boss would even make "misogynistic" comments to me about how women let their emotions control them. She'd come out to the bar with me my coworkers sometimes too.
The other was in her late 20s and was kind of a bitch. It was always very obvious where in her menstrual cycle she was, and she'd even tell my team of 5 men that it was very hard for her as a woman to be in charge of 5 men. If one of us fucked up, she would take things personally and I find myself apologizing to her. It was incredibly humiliating and dehumanizing. Needless to say I only lasted there for 2 months before quitting. Female boss was one of the reasons.
So my point is that it really depends on the woman. Some make great bosses, some make terrible bosses. Fortunately I have a male boss and he's pretty alpha so shit runs efficiently and I'm happy.

I'm glad that I work for myself and don't have to deal with such bullshit. It's way tougher though than working a normal job, but I never handled being subordinate to women well. It was always unnatural to me.
When I was working normal jobs I witnessed the 180 from friendly female colleague in your face while backstabbing someone multiple times. Women are pros at social manipulation and it's a tough game to win for guys that aren't natural born psychopaths.
[deleted] 9y ago
Yep. Women's social advantage is as big as our strength advantage. That is why I prefer male dominated or male only environments. Less risk of being seen as a creep.
GuitarHero07 9y ago
I discovered TRP at the right time. When I was a resident doctor we had a female program director. She was an extremely masculine woman who was married to a fat beta slob. She had short hair and had only worked in academia her entire career.
When I was extremely respectful and deferent to her, I ended up getting bad evaluations even though I worked and studied extremely hard. I changed my approach up: I started acting more confident, busting her balls in a joking manner and just focusing more on being well liked. Surprise! My evaluations improved dramatically.
I came to realize that she just despised "weak" behavior. A colleague of mine who had far better board scores and superior medical knowledge ended up getting fired because he was a socially awkward nerd and gave off a "creepy" vibe. Fortunately, he was able to appeal to the university and get reinstated.
Now I work in a group of exclusively male doctors. Life is so much simpler. We all just show up and get our work done, go home and make money.
[deleted] 9y ago
Sad that nerd got fired for creepy vibe...I wish that women could have all female workplaces; it'd get the super sensitive feminists away from us.

I find most people in the office are easily won with a little charm... especially women who find me attractive. However, lesbians are apparently my big weakness.
I'm not sure how much to attribute to bad luck, but generally lesbians I've encountered were man hating to such a degree, that I felt my best action was to avoid them, and hope my straight females I've charmed can keep me safe.
mr_nate_ 9y ago
It's difficult to resist gaming women at work, especially when there are so few fuck-able ones amidst the office-chair syndrome whales. I think this is just the post I needed to keep me from shoving my Jimmy Dean into one of my peers.
However, I'll be leaving this job soon. Am I clear to game this chick after I leave for a new job?

I thought more people would be there, but it was just us. we had a few drinks and he asked if we could stop by his place. I thought he might just want to pick his jacket up, but once we got there ... his entire attitude changed .... he ... started groping me .... and then ...

yeah man. I hate to come off as the ultra paranoid .... I just keep seeing these articles and some of these women we live around have lost their damn sense of reality.

so if a lady coworker is being bitchy do you just smile at her and say cmere have a hug to make the sadface go away, does that work?
ronsoness 9y ago
i want to add: no hugs in that situation. in business, you basically treat women, even co-workers, just like you would treat a man. even those women know they need to act like men in order to succeed at work. on their personal time they can act like a girl, but at work, they need to adjust. you can easily see the differences in behavior, dress, and language between a female associate and a female secretary.

Its her job not to be bitchy. Its not your job to fix her.
If you know her for a long enough time and she has initiated hugs with you before, then it may be safe.

If she is being bitchy, ignore and walk away. Get back to work. You aren't being paid to listen to it. Tolerate, yea because HR. Asking to give a hug is just asking for an 'unwanted advance' harassment report filed. Smiling shouldn't be an issue but depending on bitch level this could be exaggerated as a smirking elevator eyed grin.

sounds like we need to slip some ecstasy in her coffee, or weed in her brownie. surely all an angry feminist needs is some drugs to get her loosened up followed by a good fuck. i'm talking about sensual dominance, the kind she never forgets, not chads mindless pump and dump that just leaves her feeling like she's worthless.
