“Trap”
“Trapping" someone (cuffing someone, locking someone down, etc.) is using things like pregnancy, suicide, dating, marriage, love, guilt, etc. to limit or hinder a partner's ability to leave, see other people, act freely with consequence, etc.
But all circumstances of trapping girls/guys always boils down to one thing: they're all an attempt to establish power where there is none.
Relationships are nothing more than a balance of power (or frames, as RPers would say) and the power in any relationship is ultimately held by whoever cares the least. Trapping is all about interrupting this balance by forcing the disinterested to care i.e. by removing as many alternative paths as possible. Me or no one.
Example 1: Moving in together.
Moving in together in order to quote “become closer as a couple” puts power in the girl's hands by giving her control over how quickly and feasibly he could leave her (lease, shared rent, etc.), giving her access to his personal male space and by giving her access to his life and stuff while he's asleep, at work or away, like a loosened noose swaying ominously around his neck.
Before she had no power over him. He had no direct ties to her. He'd suffered no losses from walking away. If she'dve done some fucked up shit to him all he'd have to do is delete her number and carry on. But with this he'd be tied to a 10-month lease and limited finances to put towards a sudden move/break of the lease. Not to mention the possibility of common law alimony. She has power now.
Example 2: "Boyfriend/Girlfriend" titles.
A girl who pushes vehemently to label a relationship is a girl who's trying to give a man a weak spot to exploit. Without labels he can fuck whoever whenever. So she tries to label him in an attempt to keep him for herself. To establish control over her feel good stimuli. But with that label come the socially-decided restrictions and consequences for a boyfriend plus any other restrictions she chooses to drum up. Tomorrow she could decide looking at other women is cheating while holding sex hostage and with cheating considered "wrong" he is left with no other agreeable path to sex other than to obey. She has power now.
All in all, this is how the long-term Game is played: When the dust settles, who's really got the power? Whose trapped who? Who needs who more? Am I really in control here?
It's not about discovering whether or not she has an ulterior motive. It's about discovering what her ulterior motive is.
My Advice:
Plan and prepare for any possible scenario. Don't move in without a plan and money set aside for moving out. Get a vesactamy or use condoms. Don't date or at the very least be upfront about other chicks from the jump. In short, never put yourself in a situation you're not prepared for.
Life's a pop quiz. Study everything, question everyone and stay prepared at all times. You never know.

I was locked in at the age of 18. She pressured me hard, played the "if you loved me" and "you'll never see me again" game. I was in a crappy household, so it was between a rock and a hard place.
20 years later, I'm trying to get out. She's done nothing with her life and is too reliant on me for existence. I'm unhappy and have been unhappy all this time. I don't care about money (which she has spent more than her fair share of), I just want my freedom at this point. When I try, she does childish things and starts threatening to kill herself. Or she asks me to help her die.
The whole thing has made me suicidal and has affected me at work. I just want out one way or another. She's too caught up in herself to see that she is pushing me into the direction of suicide.

whut?
this is a little bit bolloxs mate.
labels, are for security - as in feelings of security... the idea is that both paries are on the same page.
also those labels don't necessarily carry the conitations that you suggest - you can have a girlfriend, even a wife, and still fuck whomever you want if you like and find a person who shares that value.
as for moving in together - the test of many a relationship. - you are coming across as a little paranoid - what kind of shit do you have thats so interesting?
If it's done at the right time, she won't be snooping as there won't be anything interesting to find, as she will know about your secret pokemon fetish already cos you've told her.
exit_sandman 10y ago
I wouldn't even say that it has to be an intentional power grab to lock down a man who isn't sufficiently invested in a relationship - they probably are if he keeps her at arm's length, but it's also perfectly possible that they're a mutual agreement. Let's be honest: a lot of the stuff that removes the power to walk away - titles (i.e. exclusivity), moving in together, children, etc. - is fairly basic for a normal relationship and pursuing them doesn't automatically make a woman a controlling bitch.
BUT even absent ulterior motives this still doesn't mean that you aren't trapped if it happens to you. Specifically the part about "moving in together" caught my attention because it was so terribly true. Two friends of mine - both with their longest-lasting girlfriends - made that mistake to move in with them, and both regretted it.
Friend #1 moved in with her despite her (still moderate) tendency to nag and complain, but from then on it got far worse. But because they were living together, he couldn't just dump her on a whim, so instead of breaking up he tried to "fix" the relationship. He constantly complained to me about her, and towards the end (it must have been year 4 out of 5 that relationship lasted) I asked him whether he'd still be with her if they weren't living together and he said something along the lines of "probably not".
Friend #2 moved in with his GF into a flat her parents owned and he regretted it because it totally removed his ability to live as he saw fit because she constantly reminded him of the fact that due to the fact that he was basically at the mercy of her family, it was her calling the shots in all matters living-related; and this bossiness also bled over into other areas.
So yeah, stuff like that definitely limits your options.

I think it all boils down to your sense of freedom. A man with a free mind can always choose to be free - even if his body is entraped.

3. Marriage
Pay to walk into it, pay to walk out of it, live life at threatpoint.... the ultimate socio-legal male trap.
dingman58 10y ago
Yea marriage really doesn't make any sense for men
Meat-on-the-table 10y ago
A woman's very essence is to trap.
Everything about her interactions with a man is specifically designed to trap a man. The difference is simply in which trap she sets for which particular animal.
For the beta, it's teases and covert communications of the possibility of sex if he'll just supplicate a bit more and do her this one favour.
For the alpha, the trap comes in the form of a woman who does her level best to control her impulses and display qualities that would make her a good long-term prospect.
Knowing which specific traps are being deployed is useful not only as a means of escaping the trap--but, also, as an indication of what her categorisation of you is.
Her trap is her biggest tell. You just have to learn to see it.
endorsedturtle 10y ago
Could you elaborate a little more on this "trap"? For example how would knowing it help you escape
IVIaskerade 10y ago
Once a woman ranges in on who you are, she will modify her behaviour to appeal to you, and through that seek to modify your behaviour until you are wrapped around her finger.
If you're masculine, she will strive to be feminine whilst at the same time corrupting you with suggestions such as "you don't need to work out so often! I don't just love you for your body!". This feminises you, and over time, she will adopt a more masculine position - giving you "suggestions" and withholding sex until you comply. Of course, this kills her attraction to you, but she still gets value from the relationship even if she leaves, so she isn't worried about that.
[deleted] 10y ago
So if I love sluts, shell be more slutty?
[deleted] 10y ago
To see the trap is 99% of escaping it. the restant 1% is character but that's my take on percentuals.
You can be the biggest alpha but if you don't sense her wickedness, given enough time chances are you will be willing to go beta if you care anywhere above 0. This is why an "alpha" never is such even with all social proof and status and looks, because knowing woman innate wickedness is key to successful game ( aka good people reading ). When you read people right, the optimal behaviour line will become obvious (implementation may come with experience, but knowledge is essential).
For betas traps are too easy to make, the beta is literally the guy who believes in the "women are wonderful" effect, atleast sexually speaking so she just needs to be attractive and be willing to invest some time/accept some unwanted advances.
eccentricrealist 10y ago
You always have to consider the fact that most men have very weak character. He may know he's being manipulated and he might not care anyways.
[deleted] 10y ago
i remember being very deluded sexually speaking years ago. 0 character in the matter. I was always redpill on women ( not in life in general ) but one managed to enchant me. Took me years to find the balls to ask her out as i had 0 exp, was totally in oneitis, etc - she played it by the book since she had foreknowledge - gaslight, ghost, etc - i understood the wickedness, was totally destroyed, but i let it go. There was no chance in hell that could end good and even my sexually deluded ego could clearly point that to me. If you have clear knowledge a 1% of character is enough.
Those men you reference to, to me, have no real knowledge, perhaps just a bit. Until you know the hell you are empowering her to put you through if you go with/trust her manipulation, you don't have knowledge in my opinion.
I wasn't any strong but truth was clear as the sun so i quitted. Helped that i never thought that women were generally wonderful tho, but i doubt most people ever believe that if not as a polite facade.
Obviously this doesn't apply if you have clear knowledge and just pretend to believe her good nature. Takes a headshot for a lot of guys to get there, though.

It is basic biology.
Female instinct was honed during times long before 911 and credit reports existed. A woman in pre- modern times needed prime seed just like they need it now-but she had a lot fewer options to lock a man down.
Further , securing a mans commitment isn't just about money. It's also about ensuring a female is the exclusive benefactor of a man's prime genetics. If a dude is allowed to fuck other women then they too have prime offspring which then will compete with The Bottom Bitch's kids when they grow up . Bottom Bitch wants her kids to be The Leaders, not her friends' kids from the same DNA.
So , the female does this by doing two things broadly.
One is social integration: the more people the woman knows the harder she is to get rid of. If a man ghosts a chick ,she need only contact Person X to initiate skip tracing proceedings. If she knows little to nothing about a dudes social network , she has no "leads" if he goes cold.
Next is access; part of why women insist on living with a dude is to ensure she controls the territory. Yes money matters; but if a man lives with her she can control when and how he fucks other girls. He can still cheat, but now he's gotta dodge the Bottom Bitch. He's also more likely to get caught, and as observed above leaving becomes that much harder.
Females are biologically wired not just to extract financial commitment alone, but to gradually limit a mans directive to spread his seed.

Unfortunately there is no shortage of lazy asses trying to skip the effort of forever vetting women by picking up one from another country / culture in the misguided belief that her background makes her a better choice.
All it actually does is ensure she has more incentive to deceive.

sweetleef 10y ago
Talk is cheap, and a woman will say anything that makes it more likely he'll commit. Before the commitment she's a sex fiend, loving and attentive to his needs, open-minded and trusting, etc. - but once he's locked in the gloves come off and all that stuff disappears. Ask any married man.
Hypothetically, he's free to do all kinds of things. But if he actually does ever try to sleep around, the question will be whether she has better prospects (i.e., more money) immediately available or not. If she does, she'll dump him. If not, she'll go ballistic, and all the sales fluff she spewed before will be hamstered away instantly.

IVIaskerade 10y ago
Open relationships, when proposed by the woman, are inevitably unfavourable for the man. The only way to do an open relationship is for the man to have absolute veto over any and all partners, and for her to share her partners with him.
omega_fat 10y ago
Would bet a lot of money this policy was pushed by the woman exactly for the purpose of cucking. "If a situation presents itself" A woman gets offers left right and center, so for her situation presents itself, for a man he has to actively pursue that, and put a lot of effort into it.
Eyes_Of_The_Dragon 10y ago
My first ever girlfriend tried this. Said we need to date other people and was actively encouraging me to find other girls. I thought it was odd but cool when I was 18 so I went with it. She asked me about any other girls I talked to. Magically every girl I talked to started avoiding me. The gf was using this knowledge to go around threatening any other girl I talked to. The entire ruse was to cover up her having an older boyfriend on the side that she was angling to move in with.

I'd like to think of this as something that needs to be prepared for beforehand. No way in hell would I join anything with her. I'd make sure to have complete control over all finances. I never understood why you would move in with someone you aren't married to. What is there to gain from it? Splitting the rent? Is that worth it?
momomotorboat 10y ago
For some people, it's a trial to see what marrying them would be like. Also, in some areas, rent blows up fast as fuck. I'm talking increases of 30-40% in just a few years.
RedditAdminsSuck_88 10y ago
I know, I live in Seattle, I am probably moving out of this city because of the rent increases. But I would never ever ever ever live with a woman I am not married to.
JackGetsIt 10y ago
I've tried both ways and they both have their pitfalls. If you don't live with your potential wife she's going to hide a lot from you that you will only learn after getting married and moving in. Which of course by then you're stuck with her.

Fuck, I'm in LA. I feel the squeeze too. House I grew up in, my dad bought in 1988 for $105k, and he was making maybe $1,600 a month. Was supporting a wife and two kids on that at the time.
Same house today? $712k, according to zillow.
[deleted] 10y ago
What part of LA? I used to live in South central, around Hyde park/crenshaw.
momomotorboat 10y ago
Mid-City, basically. Lucerne Blvd, near Crenshaw and Olympic. If you know where L.A. High is, down the block.
[deleted] 10y ago
Yeah I used to live off of Florence ave next to the Miriam Matthews Hyde park branch library, then we moved to 59th place. LA is not the cultural mixing pot they said It is. Mostly just Mexicans and blacks. Not that that's a problem, I was just expecting people of all races, creeds etc.
momomotorboat 10y ago
Super true. The neighborhood I lived in was strictly black and hispanic at the time. My dad was the sole white person in the neighborhood. Now it's invariably Korean. Crenshaw and Olympic is the technical boundary of Koreatown, and when I was growing up, it wasn't very safe for the residents to move beyond there. At the time, things were not very tolerant.
Several neighborhoods in LA are monoethnic, even now. It's changing quite a bit, but LA is so massive there are plenty of places where the changes haven't touched.
[deleted] 10y ago
I didn't really get to enjoy LA while I lived there. I wanna visit back one day, maybe stay for a month or 2 with a friend or something.

While you could say that I agree, and I personally do think that moving in together is a terrible idea, here's what came to my mind after reading that:
Doesn't it work both ways? Isn't she also giving him control over how quickly and feasibly she could leave him (lease, shared rent, etc.)? Isn't also she giving him access to her life? Doesn't the "girlfriend" label apply social restrictions to her as well?
IVIaskerade 10y ago
Yes, but it's weighted in her favour.
When two people split up, who gets to keep the house?
In the social media age, she's not giving him anything that a thousand other people don't know.
Far fewer than him, and she gains prestige from it.
Eyes_Of_The_Dragon 10y ago
If society restricted women the way it restricted men then there would be no need for a red pill.
[deleted] 10y ago
It never will. Women are a protected class because of their reproductive ability, men are disposable.
Venenarium 10y ago
You are right, of course, but that's unrelated.
To clarify: I'm not trying to deny what the OP is saying, I even agree with his conclusion (tho I have different reasons for that than he does). I just don't understand the arguments that he provided and would like someone to explain them in more detail to me. Exactly what social restrictions in this example apply exclusively to men?
Eyes_Of_The_Dragon 10y ago
If she needs to bail quickly from a lease all she has to do is allege abuse. Then even if her credit is destroyed her friends and orbiters will step in to help. Men don't usually have that option.
akolyteofthecentury 10y ago
In a good, just and balanced world, maybe.
In our current, gynocentric one, by no means. The goal of feminism/ the regressive SJ left is to restrict male sexuality to a minimum, so that female sexuality can be given the maximum of access.
So while the responsibilites of the "boyfriend" title are put upon him, none of the ones that come with the "girlfriend" title really apply. None of the girls she hangs out with will discourage her from having that next drink, blowing that hot guy in the bathroom stall and will readily hide all their wedding rings in the chosen ones purse.
You cheat: You're an asshole.
She cheats: I was confused because you were being an asshole he gave me the tingles better than you ever could + blame shift. Besides it didn't mean anything to me, i can have sex whenever, stop fussing about it you better accept that i do what i want with my snatch and that if you dare to do the same, i'll gut your dog and have you locked up for all eternity.
Venenarium 10y ago
What about an establishment where she moves in with you, but you still pay all the rent and the lease is on you, so that you can kick her out effortlessly when she fucks up too bad?
RedditAdminsSuck_88 10y ago
Overinvestment. Is a woman really worth letting freeload off of you like that? Letting her use you for resources there. That is the equivalent of paying for all her meals when you go out to dinner.
[deleted]
Eyes_Of_The_Dragon 10y ago
Don't do that for too long or else it is common law marriage.
Venenarium 10y ago
Shit, I was unaware that common law marriage is a thing, thanks for pointing that out :S
I live in an eastern-European country and our laws are not this retarded, or at least as far as I'm concerned. But I'll better check.
Chinny4daWinny 10y ago
It does, but society is more lenient on it.
"Of course it's okay to have girls night out once a week even though you're in a relationship. That's normal!"
Eyes_Of_The_Dragon 10y ago
The first woman I ever lived with really opened my eyes. She asked me to promise that I'd never go out without her. A week later she was going to go out with her friends without me. I confronted her about our previous discussion and she said "That was for you, not me. I'm a single mom so I have all these problems that you privileged white men don't have to deal with, so it is fair." 20 years later I still remember all her bullshit hamstering.
Venenarium 10y ago
That seems like a strawman argument, but perhaps I just don't fully understand what you're saying. Living with a girlfriend and having concerns about the amount of time she spends god-knows-where are two different things, no?
Again, I always thought that living together is a bad thing because it hinders your dread game. That's why I agree with the conclusion of OP's post. I just don't fully understand the logic behind the reasons he and you provide (Yet. Again, I'm not denying that there is logic, I just don't understand what you're saying so far).
Chinny4daWinny 10y ago
True. Thanks for calling me out on that.
If you live with her and suppose you're not having sex that night, she'll know that. Assume you both live separate, you could go to her place, hear no sex, then jet and make her feel like you have options elsewhere.
The same thing for marriage, and on a smaller scale, relationship titles. When a man is in a relationship and is the girl's boyfriend, he, (according to the title) can't have sex with anyone else. Like stated earlier, being away gives the dread that you could be having sex with other people, but if she's able to confirm that you aren't she has nothing to worry about.
Likewise, you can be sure that she isn't having sex with others when she's sleeping you with in the bed at that moment. She can apply the same dread to you when you're not living together as you can to her.
I feel like I didn't address all parts of the question. Feel free to let me know where I need to finish. I'm in a mental funk and I'm not thinking too clearly.
Venenarium 10y ago
Yup, this, the dread game, is exactly the reason why moving in together is detrimental to your sex life, as far as I understand it.
I however fail to see any "social restrictions" that are biased against men in the case of moving in together. It's just all about the dread game.
Of course, if breaking up fuck up different parts of your life, like the work, the lease, the hassle with moving out your stuff etc, then that's a bonus. But that does not have to be a rule, you just need to establish it right beforehand.

Women are often derided for having a childlike level of maturity, but the sheer level of Machiavellianism they exhibit should warn us that they are very intelligent when it comes to protecting their position - infinitely more so than men - and that while this may not be something we can respect, nor even appreciate, it is a quality that, when isolated and analysed, places women in a position far higher than some men will give them credit for.
Women are apex predators when it comes to men, they are experienced and perfectly able and willing to play a convoluted long game in which to snare their prey, over a time period that spans greater lengths than a majority of men are even able to contemplate. I recall as a beta being told by that sweet, wonderful girl I had just met, that one who I knew liked me, that she didn't want kids because they were annoying. That she didn't want marriage. These are snares that women lay in the very beginning, the beginnings of the web that will become your entire existence when she has you cowed, when she corners you as the willing beta.
It is a predatory game, a way that women learn to control weak men. And because weak men are the majority, it is the reason that women have so much power in our society. They are always able to bring some weakling to heel, even after the alphas have all vanished into the sunset. This is why, ultimately, we are all lost amid the futility of it all. No amount of effort within us can change the outcomes of the games women play, all we can do is ensure that we are not the victims. There is profit to be made, but for the average man, there is only a game to be played until such time as he loses. It amazes me not that they play, but that they continue to do so happily even after they've lost; again, and again, and again.
It is all a trap, really. There is nothing like a vagina, for having quite so much unseen depth. It is a black hole in which to plummet endlessly, until time itself welcomes you into its infinite grasp. That is why the first step in becoming a man is to denounce the power that vagina has over you, whether or not you want to. I love a fantastic pair of breasts, a beautiful backside, and a wondrous, shapely set of hips, as much as the next heterosexual man. But it is important to be able to find presence within yourself whenever faced with these things, and be able to make choices that prevent you from being trapped by them.
[deleted] 10y ago
Always be prepared to walk away from any relationship. If you move in with a girl have a plan and money set aside to be able to remove her from your life. Always be practicing your game so that you can replace her. Test it out and make sure you can get other girls numbers. And of course don't get married. That legally ties you to a woman while not legally tying her back to you.
