Summary
Understanding how the mind works is critical to attracting and enjoying abundance, wealth, prosperity, personal goals and women. For sustainable growth you have to reprogram your subconscious mind. Kill your limiting, negative beliefs.
Mostly aimed for beginners and intermediates. Thus, click-bait title.
Body
Most self-development literature touch on this topic.
Your mind is the key
What you sow you reap
You have to accept your past and the status-quo. You were used to be deaf, dumb, and blind. Your mind has been used against you so as to work Universal law against yourself. What you put in (input) is what you get out (output). You got programmed with negative thoughts, beliefs, and images via a plethora of tools such as television (movies, nightly news, etc.), music, and other media knowing that your thoughts and beliefs create and shape your reality (existence). You are not taught how to go within and develop your inner gifts and attributes so as to live the experience you are capable of.
You may be not fully responsible for your past, but shifting away your responsibility will not get you anywhere. Take the hit and accept your failure here. Blaming externalities is shifting energy outside, but you need your energy inside yourself.
Thus, you have to be fully accountable for your every action and belief in your past, presence and future for the sake of self-improvement.
Waking up
It is imperative that you understand how the subconscious mind works because when you do, you'll also discover how the world works.
The subconscious mind is nothing but the neural pathways that have been established in your brain as result of your past beliefs and conditioning. During your unconscious existence, when you weren't aware enough, you ended up absorbing a lot of limiting beliefs, negative conditioning and misguided perceptions about life, that you took to be “true” and hence believed in them enough to create strong neural pathways in your brain about them – causing these patterns of thought to become “subconscious”.
Neural pathways are physical links, they are real and they are no different from a strong rope made from interweaving several layers of strings.
Understanding
Once you consciously see through a negativity, or a negative belief, within you, the neural pathway associated with that negativity will take time to come down, even when you are no longer supporting it consciously – it could well take a few months for a neural pathway, associated with a pattern of thought, to come down fully.
Frustration
A lot of people who are new to the Redpill feel frustrated that their brain is not able to sync up with this understanding.
The basic deal is that your conscious mind has gained the understanding, but your subconscious mind is yet to get programmed in it – it still has strong neural pathways associated with the old beliefs, conditioning and thought pattern.
The conscious mind can get it immediately, and you can feel a sense of relief and elation on getting the clarity, but the very next day you can come up against the subconscious mind that starts churning out the old patterns.
Reprogramming
To program your subconscious mind, with the present conscious understanding that you’ve gained, will take time, and you need to make an allowance for it, understanding that it’s a physical process of bringing down the old neural pathways in your brain. (Neuroplasticity)
In fact these neural pathways are constantly reinforced by your current reality, because your present reality is by itself a web that you’ve interwoven through your thought patterns, so for a while you would need to create a rift in this unconscious reinforcement by consciously dis-identifying with the negativity in your present external reality.
Hence, refrain from old patterns, old beliefs and old actions, which you consider to be a barrier on your self-improvement journey.
You are free
By dissolving these limiting beliefs, you can break free once and for all and begin to experience your life fully.
What would you do if you only had 6 months to live?
Lessons learned:
-
Allow your subconscious mind to reprogram itself due to brain plasticity
-
Refrain from old patterns and actions
-
Throw your god damn TV out the window.
- Accept your past and forgive yourself.
Edit: Typo
I warmly recommend meditating regularly. Please refer to my "Principles of meditation" for more information.

Late to the party, but just wanted to say, great post.
Another way of saying this: Your neural pathways are constantly reinforced by your actions.
Actions are everything.
If you want to know what's really important to you, look to your actions.

I highly highly recommend Psycho-Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz. it is an essential resource for re-programming your brain and getting rid of all those nasty negative patterns and limiting beliefs
ParallaxBrew 10y ago
I have Psycho-Cybernetics, but I was turned off by all the stories. It seemed lacking in substance..or rather, I wish he would just get to the point. I take it I should give it another chance?
[deleted] 10y ago
Definetly. And maybe be a little more open to what he is trying to communicate through said stories :) good luck
JohnnyGameGuy 10y ago
I'm interested. It came out in the 60's. Why do you think it's still relevant?
ParallaxBrew 10y ago
Because it covers a topic that mainstream education has ignored. The information is still relevant, and you weren't taught it in school, college or work.

The book offers a practical step by step guide to fully reprogram your brain. I also think that this book and the concepts presented in it are the foundation or ground work for ALL self development endeavors. its just KEY, and its really really fucking good
Acmartin1960 10y ago
Because the way the brain works hasn't changed and no new research has disproved it. Rather, research has tended to reinforce the ideas behind the book.

This is exactly what reading the TRP subreddit aims to achieve. Unlearning decades of societal brainwashing. The first step should be religiously reading the sidebar material followed by rigorously sifting thru post's everyday and contributing meaningfully over time.
The next step should be applying TRP knowledge in real life situations followed by field reports. Occasionally revisiting sidebar material is recommended.
If one still has limiting belief patterns that seem intuitive such as:
Your reprogramming needs to begin in earnest.

I was a social and talkative kid. That changed and in my teenage years I hid in the world of computers, the internet, games and porn.
I realized that I can't moderate my internet-usage well enough at this stage. I cancelled my internet subscription. Since january the first I have no internet at home. I use the library's, parents' or school's.
This forces me to do stuff, i.e. going out on town talking to people, working out, playing instruments, getting enough sleep, eating well, reading interesting books, finding new hobbies (picked up kickboxing yesterday, great fun).
At first re-doing your old stuff in the brain feels very unnatural and mechanical, but with time, introspection and work it will turn automatic. You deflect shit-tests faster and with more finesse, frame is easier to hold, you don't have to be aware of all differents micro-happenings in your body and mind when interecting with people, it just flows.
It makes me glad to say that the kid I used to be is slowly and surely returning to his former glory. This time, let's upgrade!
Treat yourself well and good and it will be easier to forgive and accept yourself.
Meditation or any kind of activity that lets you get into a relaxed and introspective state is crucial for changing yourself.

I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier. Great contribution, thankyou.

Lift, read, meditate, approach. Repeat.
Accept and love yourself, you automatically gain self-worth and will leave out negative behaviors and beliefs.

Ozzie from RSD made an amazing video on fear which addresses what you've mentioned, unlearning. As easy as it sounds, it's incredibly difficult to unlearn an old habit because it challenges who you are.
The key to it is to create a reasonable doubt within your subconscious and eventually the evidence will pile up, and you'll be free.
Honestly, I that video is pretty much the same as what you've posted, just in different words.

This is why meditation is recommended so often - you are training your mind to catch your thoughts before they manifest into emotion or action. The more you practise, the more you can alter your 'natural' reactions.

As they said in pyschology, neurons that fire together wite together

This sounds a bit like "The Power of Now", on the RP reading list. If you have issues with emotions and remaining stoic, you should read the book. It's mind blowing in my opinion.

Reprogramming the subconscious mind is powerful. Get rid of those self-limiting beliefs that slowly got into your subconscious over the years, they are holding you back.
One way to do it, is to use subliminal audio programs that throw affirmations at you thousands of times, they are subaudible so you wont consciously hear them (so you cant consciously reject them), but you subconscious mind will pick them up.

"Throw your god damn TV out of the window."
YES!! DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!! There's enough bullschitt coming our way over the I-net, television is truly a "vast waste land".
eddiae 10y ago
i was thinking of having audio that you'd let run while you sleep, like subliminals, a lot of those you find in the internet are good, but a bit too much feel good positive, there is no mention of dark triad hypnosis or subliminals, i would love to have one where there are subliminal lines coupled with binaural beats that talk about arrogance, selfishness etc.. just to experiment with.
smutscribe 10y ago
They do have such things; subliminals in more of the dark triad vein. Not free at all, though; quite pricey but many comment on how effective it is. Look up Alpha Male 6 (they refer to it as AM6) from Subliminal-Shop. I haven't used that particular one from them yet, but I am on my second month of their Life Tune Up 3.1. I play it all night as I sleep, because they recommend about 8 hours a day and I can't find the time to do that when I am awake. I have no affiliation except as a customer. In fact, I found TRP a few days ago based on conversations on the message boards over there. I do intend to start AM6 in June.
RubbeRNL 10y ago
Im on stage 5 of Alpha Male 6 right now, it is definately changing how I interact with people, and a massive confidence boost.
throwawayyourliberty 10y ago
Can you go deeper and tell more about your experience and outcome with AM 6? Might be interesting, but i am not convinced to invest 6 months of time for such a program.
RubbeRNL 10y ago
I have 1 more week to go on the final stage. I'll write a testimonial for subliminal-talk , the forum for subliminal-shop.
eddiae 10y ago
i checked it out, and it sounds like noise i cant detect the subliminals in there, do you have a software or a tutorial where i can extract what it says from the audios so im not brainwashed into some weird shit without knowing it ?
smutscribe 10y ago
I don't. If you're concerned about that, then so be it. I've placed trust in that the guy that runs the company has been doing it for something like 10 years or so, and you can talk to him on the forum, but the fact is that I can't assure you there isn't crap in there. It appears to be legit based on the number of years in business and the various discussions by users on the forum.
