For my protein, I prefer to mix with OJ (about 100 cals), and generally speaking, I like juices standalone--a couple swigs of OJ/Pineapple hits the spot. What is reason for only drinking coffee/water--again, is this only because of calories?
Along the same lines, I also have a juicer that was gifted to me, which extracts from pretty much everything, veggies, fruit; is this 'bad', or is there some reasoning not to use it aside from calorie content? I've heard so much on both sides, but nothing really definitive beside personal preference. If you eat the fruit/veggies anyway, is juicing a decent alternative? Any empirical evidence, or just anecdotal?
Thanks for the help.

Vegs is alright, but fruit always contains a shitload of unnecesary sugar, which is why it is usually not recommended.
Also, eating the fruit satiates much more than drinking the fruit.

Why do people care about sugar if its all about calories in and out? I was under the impression it spikes insulin or some shit but that's not a big deal.

even a lot of veggies are mostly sugar, e.g. carrots

Very good, thank you. This was what I'm looking for.

high amount of sugar. I need the fiber from fruit though, so I just cut out most other carbs

Throwaway because of reasons.
There's two ways I can reply to your question, one is eat your fruits, eat your veggies and drink your protein with tap water. The other one is do whatever the fuck you want to do.
Both are valid, depending on your situation, are you over 20%BF and trying to lean down? Then option 1, are you in a confortable BF% and don't care about calories? Then option 2.
Honestly I see too much drama over sugar this sugar that, fiber, carbs, when the reality is that, most likely, if you eat at least 3 different kinds of vegetables, meat and carbs, in a week, you're getting all the micros you need, also sugar is not the devil, more so when it is actually fructose coming from a natural source and not some fucked up syrup.
I still think the only golden rule is count your calories and try to follow your macros, the rest is a little too strict for my taste.

I put pure maple syrup or honey in my gym water bottle and post workout shake; simple carbs before, during, and after workout help cut down cortisol, much like protein.

I like using BCAAs for this purpose too

Yeah my protein shake has BCAAs in it

Thanks for the info. Yes, I'll do whatever the fuck I want to, but I do want it to be informed. I do #2 based on taste, but was wondering thought process behind conflicting ideas. BF is about 19, was getting lower, but have injury. Have rotator cuff surgery in 2 weeks, can't lift, other than leg/calf presses. Bike riding ok, but boring. So, diet.
I eat fine otherwise, limiting processed foods/sugar, but at over 50, wondering if I have to do something different. I've heard folks praise the juicing, and wondered if anyone has good info on that, not anecdotal.

It's all about goals, unless you compete and have to diet down I don't see any difference between juice or whole food, I mean, go for both and bulk up!

people that talk about juicing at the gym are probably not talking about juice

Funny, but yep, am juicing with a machine. No injections. Work out at home.
