“Whoever will be free must make himself free. Freedom is no fairy gift to fall into a man's lap. What is freedom? To have the will to be responsible for one's self.” - Max Stirner
“You know, I tell my kids in [and out] the weightroom, especially my oldest, you are 100% responsible for everything that happens to you. That motorcycle accident [I got into] you know whose fucking fault that was? My fault.” - Jim Wendler.
If you want to be free you have to be willing to be responsible for everything you do.
The people you rely on own you. What would you do without your boss's paycheck? Or that chick whose assignment you wanted to copy off of? That coworker that usually does your work for you? You’d be screwed. You need them and you need what they have to offer; they own you. Every interaction you have with the people you rely on is doused in the fear of losing what you need from them.
You really think a slave is gonna piss off their master when the master is the one feeding them scraps?
If you want to own yourself you have to primarily rely on yourself and your judgment, but I’m not idiotic enough to assume that you can just do everything by yourself, so on top of this you need to have options. Ever wonder why we preach abundance here? Yeah, that concept applies to more than just sluts, buddy. The more options you have the less shit you have to take from people who really don’t give a fuck about you. You get to keep the one thing most people lack; pride.
You have to link everything good and bad that happened directly to you to a choice you made. Let me give you some examples.
You need to constantly have your own back in case your tribe lets you down, and even if they let you down it’s your fault for forming a tribe with them in the first place. You should have done a better job at choosing and forming a tribe to be around.
At the time of writing this, the COVID-19 virus shut down my gym. Even though this happened to me (and others) it was my fault for relying so much on the gym to stay and get strong. Instead of sitting on my ass doing nothing and crying, I adjusted my diet and began doing whatever I could with what I had. I stopped praying for LA-Fitness to get their shit together and I stopped eating like a fucking pig because I knew I wouldn’t be lifting as heavy. I should have been smart enough to invest in my own home gym, now I gotta look in the mirror and reminisce about the days when I actually looked strong. Now I just look fit and small.
I had a girlfriend that cheated on me. I looked in the mirror and realized it was my fault for trusting her in the first place regardless of all the signs. How could I have been so naive? It was my fault for living in fairy tale land and not reality.
I once had a professor in college that straight up couldn’t teach. She was horrible. Nobody cared and neither did she. I still passed the class. I realized that waiting for her to actually do her job would cost me my grade, so I did a shit ton of work outside of class. I’m thankful I got my shit together because she wouldn’t.
The instant you’re willing to take responsibility for everything that happens to you is the instant you take your life back. You stop relying on external shit to change your life, you own your life and firmly grasp the reins of control.
Our actions are a reflection of our mindset. If you have a “woe is me, I need help" mindset, your actions are going to reflect that bitch mentality. If you have a “fuck it, this is my life” mentality, your actions are going to reflect that.
So for those of you that are relying on everything but yourself and putting all of your eggs in one basket; stop. You’re dancing with the devil. Try your best to work for yourself, but if you can’t, get multiple sources of income, get multiple women, get options but always rely on yourself primarily.
Own your life. This is all you have.
tldr; If you want to be free you have to be willing to be responsible for everything you do.

You know...I think this is why I have so many enemies who refuse to say it to my face. I have enough birds I can get information from, and I repeatedly get talked about behind my back. In the end, the person who doesn't like me, or is jealous of me will still side with me, or try to appeal to me to convince me to take their side in an argument or choice.
I am always ready to walk away from the group if I find something better, yet I am the go to person to keep the group together and happy. It's like my "friends" can't live without me but hate the fact they can't tie the group together on their own.
At work I always do quality work, rarely ask for help but always offer it. Ask for help if this will help make your superiors feel good, even if they know you can do something on your own. Be humble in their eyes, but always surprise them with how well you can do on your own. Be better than all the other guys at work, but don't over achieve. If the guy next to you does 100%, you do 102%. Enough to be better, but not attract too much attention. Be the guy that is consistent and can be relied upon.
Keep good habits around people and build a repertoire for being punctual, reliable and consistent, positive, goal oriented, but also ruthless to those that get in your way. Keep a good balance of good cop and bad cop inside of you, and play both parts.
When asked if something can be done, always say yes, then go figure out how. Never say you don't know or you doubt something can be done. Be the go to guy to get shit done when it matters. But stay busy so that at any time, you have a choice and people have to earn your help.

I needed to read this thank you.

Thanks, needed to hear this very much during this time of quarantine.
Self-improvement can only happen when you are fully responsible for your own life, if not, you will find a million excuses of why this or that can't happen.
uwey 6y ago
Own it can certainly shift from victim mentality into owner mentality.
Be a victim is weak and you may get taken care, but since you are man, the hierarchy of weakness will put you in the bottom and you will get low quality help. Might as well fight hard because society can certainly give 2 shit about you, as man, be poor, tire, overworked, and want a space to breathe. You might as well die on the street and no one, not even your own mother, would care much about you if she herself is struggling.
Care no one but yourself, but at least pretending not being selfish, and watch weakness faded in time, as you own your shit outright, you will slowly realize who is your true master while you handle your self differently than the most

It's a vicious cycle.
Positive people become more positive.
Negative people become more negative
INNASKILLZ2K18 6y ago
I like this sort of shit.
Those who take responsibility have an internal locus of control, and in my experience end up happier as they feel they can change the course of their life.
Those who blame things outside of themselves have an external locus. They readily become victims and don't grow.
That being said, sometimes shit out of our control happens. Life is hard at times. But it is always our responsibility to handle it and move forward.
In regard to the gym, Covid-19 is a bitch. I bought a set of resistance tubes and must say I love them. No way was I spending however many months not lifting something.
I recommend them if you have nothing else.
RomeIntl 6y ago
On the gym- book called convict cinditioning. All about bodyweight workouts that cons use in prison to get strong, mobile and hard to fuck with. Enjoying it so far and glad I picked it up. Great progression from level 1 to one hand pullups, one leg ass to grass squats, etc.
Xercister 6y ago
+1 to that. Where there is a will, there is a way. You do not see many blue pilled guys doing anything to help themselves because they are dependent on the system. While people gave me shit for buying the X3 Bar, I've been using it at home with my crossrope and my fitness has not suffered to covid.
Moral of the main story...You want something, do it yourself.
INNASKILLZ2K18 6y ago
Right. They are dependent on the system to tell them how to live and what to do.
They are told to isolate and lock-down, so doing something different and buying some work-out equipment is foreign for some. 'Wha? Think for myself? I dunno, man'.
There is no self, no individualism. The system falls apart, and they fall apart.
Of course that isn't all, but I'm surprised at how much I see it. We could be reading books, self reflecting, discussing ideas, expanding our minds. But no, everyone just sits around complaining and talking about conspiracy theories. Fuck...if the system is broken learn to act outside of it.
vreller 6y ago
This is it.
Internal locus of control probably is the number one stepping-stone in self-growth. Everything else is a consequence of this.

Exactly. If I get a D on a test, the teacher didn’t give me a D, I got a D.

"Respect the gods and Buddhas, but do not depend on them.”

Excellent post and great examples. Absolutely spot on.
I enjoy my work, but I don’t need the job and my management chain knows it. (modest home paid off, no wife/kids)
It is very subtle, but I have definitely noticed this gives me some negotiating room to choose what I work on and where I relocate to.

The first step in solving a problem is admitting that we have one....good post.
CoachOcelot 6y ago
100%. I am constantly trying to convey this to the guys around me, but only a handful seem to even want to understand it.
Being red pill goes hand-in-hand with being anarchist/libertarian/whatever you want to call it, since you should not rely on government for anything either. But most people don't want to hear that Big Daddy Government isn't there for them.
I've had a home gym for years now. Nothing special. Just a few free weights, a chin-up bar and a few other bits, but it's helped me save money, build a strong physique, and stay individual. When all the COVID shit went down, I didn't even have to think twice about where or how I was lifting. Just continued as normal.
Taking personal responsibility is the path to true power in one's own life.

Most young men have been brainwashed that there is a lucky break for everyone and if only they try this or try that they will become millionaires. Everything from uber driving to starting your own business. In reality, they couldn't even keep a day job and come on time.

"The demand to be loved is the greatest of all arrogant presumptions" - Fredrich Nietzche
If even being loved by your parents, something that almost everybody sees as a god given right, is in fact just a privilege granted to you. Imagine what else is just a privilege that can be taken away at any moment?

Your argument on gym is irrelevant. Because of Covid 19, the entire world has shut down. It isn’t your fault to rely on your favorite gym, restaurant, park or whatever.
RevolutionaryPea7 6y ago
I absolutely agree with this sentiment, but like anything it shouldn't be taken to the extreme. I think it's important not to be reliant on individuals and that is especially true of women. Don't ever, ever rely on a woman for anything at all. Sometimes you might have to rely on men, but keep it short term.
However, it is OK, to rely on the honour of gentlemen. I'm talking mostly about financial systems. You didn't talk about going completely off the grid, but some people do reach that logical endpoint. I think life can be much better with the systems that men have built. Insurance greatly reduces your individual worry. Money almost goes without saying. I bet most people haven't even imagined a world without money.
But you should always understand exactly where the weak points in the chain are. Have backup plans. Know your liabilities and do your accounts scrupulously.
selfeduhated 6y ago
Well said. A lot more people need to understand this gold.

Just listening to Dan Crenshaw on JRE literally just talking about this... this is some good advice for all
555WeWolf 6y ago
Agree with everything OP said in the post but i would like to point out a little detail.
Saying "Its my responsibility" is a lot better, and in fact more accurate then saying "Its my fault". When you say "Its X's fault" you are just playing the blame game and you are looking for someone to blame, for which in the end you get nothing. Saying its your fault that you girl cheated in most cases simply is not a true statement. No it is not your fault that your girl decided to willingly fuck another guy, but it was your responsibility to hold the frame and the relationship for it not no happen (or leave before it happens, doesn't matter at this point). When you say that its your fault you are playing a victim card and you give away your power whereas when you take responsibility you acknowledge that you have power over that thing and thus you can move on and get shit done.
A few examples of what i mean would be:
- It is not your fault for being born with poor genetics, but it is your responsibility to do the best you can to lift and eat right
- It is not your fault that your family is not rich, but it is your responsibility to find a way to make a living for yourself... etc. etc.
PS: This idea came from a similar comment i read a few days ago when someone said exactly this
roandr 6y ago
Accept everything that happened to you, and make it YOUR CHOICE. Be it your childhood trauma, people betraying you, or whatever. Make all your misery and happiness your choices. That is how you accept yourself. Thanks for this quality post.

Good addition to this would be Jocko Willinck's 'extreme ownership'. Look it up if you find this train of thought interesting.

In an LTR how do you take responsibility and accountability without becoming the bitch of the relationship? Don’t want to start admitting everything is my fault all the time. Or is that even that bad of an outcome?
z2a1-9 6y ago
Being in an ltr, you have to apply both alpha and beta traits. It is said that ltr's and marriage are trp in hard core mode.
I would recommend going to the mrp subreddit, and start reading the sidebar and the reading material. Maybe this will steer you in the right direction and help. It's really up to you...
