This is going to be a somewhat disorganized rant, but I will attempt to wrap it up in a conclusion that makes sense.
I have been somewhat enjoying reading ask TRP lately. There have been some interesting topics, but some of the people who comment write some absolutely autistic and disgusting words. Lets expand!
- Pulling words out of context and using them towards your advantage is insecure.
- Acting offended is insecure.
- Being offended by constructive criticism is insecure.
- Arguing over an opinion is childish, not accepting an opinion is normal.
- Not using facts for an argument is foolish.
- Not using proper grammar, spelling, annotation, and punctuation, is your own fault for simply not looking up how to use said functions.
- Asking for advice and then rejecting advice and/or idea's given by the audience without consideration simply because you "are always right" is childish and a waste of time.
- Not knowing how to navigate the sidebar, or conduct your own research using something as easy as Google, is your own fault. Go back to grade school.
- Hijacking replies, comments, and conversations, only to make yourself sound smart and a "big boy", is insecure.
- Not using spell check that is built into the devices you use...you must be blind I highly recommend seeing a professional (no pun intended).
I can go on and on about what happens online, but this also concerns real, live, human interaction. Lets expand!
- Acting defensive makes you insecure.
- Arguing and debating topics that you know nothing about (not even slightly by reading wikipedia) makes you seem even more stupid.
- Saying LOL in public...need I say more.
- Not having a large enough lexicon to keep a conversation.
- Not being able to do basic math in your head when you need to calculate sales tax.
- ETC. ETC. ETC.
Some may say: "Who cares about all of this! All that matters is that I bench 696LB on the press and that I can sign my name on a piece of paper!" Okay Sherlock.
My Point: You can't even think about spinning plates, picking up chicks, and improving yourself if you can't do the research. The reason you probably found TRP is because you went looking, and then, all anyone ever said to you is READ THE SIDEBAR. Pff, TELL ME NOW BECAUSE SIDEBAR DON'T WORK ON PHONE. Listen, I have had zero issues accessing the sidebar from numerous devices. I also have not had any issues looking up synonyms for basic words to improve the diversity of my word bank. Learning basic grammar and spelling, is easy, and makes you seem smarter than you probably are. Learning new words, will definitely make you seem smarter than you are. Learning how to do some basic math in your head, will make you look smarter than you are. Even if you are not interested, learning about a diverse number of things in this world will make you look smarter than you are.
When you put all of that together; knowledge, grammar, language, you will BE smarter than you are. Your brain has an innate capacity for using information you learn in interesting and bizarre ways. Knowing SOMETHING about aerospace engineering is better than nothing at all when some dude at the club decides to measure who has the most brain cells to impress some bimbo you will probably fuck once or twice.
Muscles are great, but having brains to back them up is even better. Brains that can not only give information, but also receive it and use it. I myself have been a big offender in this category in the past. Many times I received advice and criticism, and many of those times my insecurity got in the way. Luckily for all of us on TRP, the only way is forward and up. Got to keep lifting and learning. Cheers

having a large lexicon doesn’t matter. geniuses simplify things, idiots make them complicated
when_its_too_late 6y ago
Sure. Not large, but sophisticated and tactful lexicon. Being able to use the right words at the right time and not simply talk like a teenager on Facebook. Cutting out filler words for tactful pauses, etc. Basics of a college public speaking course.
And if geniuses simplified, we would be going back in time, not forward. The products of geniuses have only created a more complex yet diverse world.

And the measure of a man is what he does with power
when_its_too_late 6y ago
Knowledge is power and it can command obedience (maʿrifatu al-ʿilmi dīnun yadānu bihi). A man of knowledge during his lifetime can make people obey and follow him and he is praised and venerated after his death. Remember that knowledge is a ruler and wealth is its subject.
