I’ve seen people talk about how during these “times of uncertainty” it is important to “love” and “forgive” yourself, to allow yourself to eat snacks and trash foods, to “spend” (waste) your time playing video games and binge watching shitty tv shows and Netflix series.
While I agree that it’s good to spend some time having fun and enjoying yourself, this is no excuse to “let go” and consume your free time. Instead, I urge you to PRODUCE instead of CONSUME.
-
WORK OUT - I’m hopeful that at least 90% of the active users of this sub have already developed and follow a work-out routine. This goes to the people that are not already working out and especially for those who have been working out and have stopped due to the lockdown. Just get yourself up and do it. It doesn’t matter what you do, just go for a walk, a job, run, ride your bike, do some push-ups, burpees, bodyweight squats. There is an abundance of exercises you can do anywhere, anytime. Your gym being closed is NOT an excuse to sit on your couch and get fat while you play Call of Duty or something and eating oreos or other trash foods. Work out, your body will thank you, your mind will thank you. Working out relieves stress, improves your cardiovascular health, your immune system, as well as your body and mind altogether. If you’re struggling to find a routine to follow during quarantine, feel free to shoot me a PM or I’ll post a free home workout program here.
-
Start cooking – Cooking is fucking amazing. It is one of the most relaxing activities I do on a daily basis. Besides the fact that you’re being creative and cooking your own meals which helps avoiding trash foods, snacks etc. It is also a perfect time to listen to an audiobook, a podcast or any other educational/self-improvement video/audio. I find myself being extremely focused when I cook and I absorb any information easily. If you’re not into audiobooks/podcasts, just put your favorite tunes and vibe it out. But for real, start cooking your own meals, it’s great and it’s not as time consuming as you might think it is.
-
Educate yourself – 3 easy suggestions: 1) Read books. Any book that seems interesting to you, read it. TRP is the reason I now read books and it has insane benefits for the human brain. It helps me build focus, expand my vocabulary and gain knowledge on a wide spectrum of things (psychology, philosophy, business, finance). It started with The Rational Male and turned into Friedrich fucking Nietzsche and Ancient Greek philosophy. 2) Take online classes. There is an abundance of free online classes available. Hell, even watch youtube videos about something and take notes. It’s 2020, education is available online and for free. I feel like a moron for wasting 6 years getting 2 university degrees. 3) Watch documentaries/docuseries instead of TV shows. Documentaries about anything, serial killers, abuse, gender equality (if you wanna get triggered). Anything is better than watching pointless TV shows.
-
Develop new skill(s) – On the same note as the above, try to improve yourself by developing a new skill. Two personal examples I’m focusing right now are: Learning a new language and experimenting with investing/day trading. But this can be anything, a physical skill (learn how to handstand or smth), play an instrument, learn coding, cooking (see point 2.), fix things, build things, craft etc. Your future self will be glad you’ve taken the time to develop new skills.
- Meditate – It’s important to train the mind as well. Take time to dose off, give your head some space. Relax and focus on your breathing and how your body feels. Remember that you are the essence living inside the body, so take care of the presence. Remind yourself of what is within and come to peace with it. It will greatly relieve your stress, anxiety, depression, as well as to improve your sleep and attitude in general.
Epilogue:
This is the perfect time to work on you. Improve you. Fix you. Transcend you.
There is no excuse for being lazy, having terrible eating habbits and not taking care of yourself. Remember that one day things will go back to normal. You can be the guy who comes out of this completely transformed. Healthier, better looking, wiser, craftier and maybe even wealthier.
Do you want to waste your life because there is a global pandemic? Do you wanna come out of this as a loser with no money, like a junkie who will seek cheap dopamine rushes and quick moments of fun? Or do you wanna come out like a stoic roman emperor, ready to take on the world again, fuck his way to the top, ready to make money, lift heavy weights and live life to the fullest?
MEMENTO MORI - You could leave life right now.
Choose wisely.
Edit: Thanks for the feedback. To those who described the post as "basic", I know, this is not a groundbreaking research paper. But please remember, not everyone has their shit together. Not everyone has a strong purpose and discipline. We all start somewhere. 3 years ago I would find this post complete bullshit. Please, if you don't have anything to contribute, close the post and move on. Spreading negativity is pure blue-pilled behaviour.

Any advices on how to get started with cooking? I'm student and usually eat in the canteen but I would like to start cooking by myself

Thanks for this. Everyone talks about becoming high value but not how to do it.

Great post, thanks. Coursera has many free courses and I have been using them to learn Excel. Would highly recommend.
chronowheel983 6y ago
perfect, thanks. personally i'm trying to find a low impact-no impact workout routine because i have a very bad back but i cannot do by myself and i'd like to be instructed from a personal trainer. those month of inactivity (even simply walking) had a devastating impact for my back.
personally i'd add start looking into minimalism. this occasion proved perfect for this purpose, i can move from my house to another place with a backpack and a bag and be comfortable for weeks. i started this practice a couple of years ago and i'd say i'm in a good spot, so this pandemic did not caught me off guard. i'm constantly trying to not have unnecessary things around, while keeping a good looking and stylish ambient. in this way you can concentrate your buying in a way that's really necessary and reduce not essential purchases. please note that minimalism doesn't mean having 5 boxers and 6 trousers, i have a decent wardrobe (around 70 pieces not counting underwear and accessories) and some watches, but i try to not overbuy things just for the sake of buying it.

DISCIPLINE, a habit hard to master
RedGille 6y ago
here's some more thoughts wrt what you should and shouldn't do
Blue pill Guy
Buys into every news and narrative about the virus and its effects. Relies on others for information and opinion; never checks facts, addicted to TV and the shit their selling. Is already locked in his appt since January coz he "saw it coming". Wears a mask to go to the toilet. Sold all his stocks at the first sign of trouble, coz you know "this time it's really different" and "the world's about to collapse"; will only buy them again "when things clam down". Lost all sight of priorities in this world, gives in to panic. Devastated by the shutting down of bars etc coz this is were chicks are. Devastated by the shutting down of gyms so now just sits home.
Loses frame totally. Does as everyone else does.
Red pill Guy
Has a healthy amount of skeptisism, doesn't take anything at face value but tries to learn and inform himself about the matter at hand. Doesn't give in to panic or emotions; knows that it's in no-one's interest to calm people down; the media being what it is will do all it can to sell and stir panic; "experts" are just people who also has to get by and seek publicity; politicians always uses crises for their own good. May wear a mask if needed, but as with everything else in his life, will not do it just coz everyone does. Doen't lose his priorities in life just because everyone's scared. Doesn't make any hasty changes to his stock porfolio; knows that people are always sure "this time it's different" but it never really is; if anything, he buys more stocks, realizing that the average Joe is panic-selling. Has an investing plan and doen't swerves from it no matter what. Not alarmed by being alone; occupies himself with lots of shit, since he knows women are not the answer to question how to be happy. They are just part of life, no more no less. Doent give up on working out, it's part of his life and espscially now can help to stay focus and motivated and happy.
Holds frame. Remembers that when everyone thinks the same, no-one is probably thinking.
Blazer808 6y ago
I just realized how lazy the internet enabled us to be. Before you'd have one episode of a good TV show on TV a day, now you can binge watch 5 seasons of it non-stop. I knew instant gratification was a thing, I never realized the scale of it.
sivashenko 6y ago
The quarantine is THE PERFECT opportunity to go on monk mode. There's literally nowhere to be, no one to see, and nothing else to do. These are all good suggestions - if you're looking for a starting point for workouts you can do at home, search on youtube for "nerdfitness beginner body weight workout". This will give you a good baseline fitness to go on to more intense workouts. Make this time count!
throwawaycunt1997 6y ago
Can’t go wrong with the One-Punch Man routine. Pushups, sit ups, squats and something aerobic. Just keep pushing for more reps every session. No need to complicate it
LazerSpin 6y ago
Unless you're WFH of course. The only real savings you get are from not having to commute, but having to cook more eats up into that instead.
sivashenko 6y ago
I do WFH. Cooking has been no different for me, really. I meal prep 2x a week just as I used to and pack my meals in bento boxes, ready to go into the microwave when I need them.

I can do that when I get off work. But it will be way easier if you search my post history for a bit. Ive posted pics in bodybuilding subs before.

Hahahah you just destroyed this kid
smilodoner 6y ago
Dude, you didn't mention drinking water!
hoopingblob 6y ago
It's what this sub has become. All the information has been said and now they just echo like in an empty cave. Kind of poetic.
DerpJungler 6y ago
Have you guys been to askTRP?
I read at least 2 posts per day asking "Plz guys tell me what do in quarantine i dun know!"
This is an all-in one guide for people like them. Not everyone has their shit together. People still need help and if you don't like it or don't need it, then skip it.
hoopingblob 6y ago
You think those people will read this?
DerpJungler 6y ago
I already got 4 messages from people asking for advice, so I'd say yeah. People are reading and want to improve themselves.
hoopingblob 6y ago
I don't think you understood what I was implying. It's easier to ask instead of making the research yourself.
Nothing changed in the Quarantine. The only thing is that you can't waste your Fridays on clubs and the gyms are closed.
Most self improvement doesn't need external help.
I guess that is a good post for beginners but that can be all looked up by reading the sidebar or searching the sub for a couple of minutes.
DerpJungler 6y ago
I agree with you. For those that have a strong purpose and discipline, not much has changed.
But there will always be people who are still on the quest to find themselves, to discover their purpose and that lack discipline. I spend a lot of time on askTRP and the traffic in there has massively increased.
There's an abundance of people who are panicking and have no idea how to cope with the situation. Tons of people are abaddoning their routines and waste their time playing video games and masturbating.
My aim was to create this post, so such people can find it and gain something out of it. It never hurts to try and help others, especially if you have your shit together.

6) Work on your hobbies/business. Create a website. Create a blog. Create online class. Try affiliate marketing. Learn about SEO and provide it to companies. Do social media marketing. Start small company to deliver food to homes. Write a book and sell it online. Create online store. Do dropshipping. Use freelancer.com or fiverr.com to do some work for people. Be online secretary.
I just gave you 12 ideas that work wonderfully in this quarantine times. Developing new skills is cool, but it should not be the end, it should be the start. Put that knowledge to good use and create stuff, give something back to the world.
DerpJungler 6y ago
This is great. Perfect time to be working on developing/creating your business.

I dunno... to all you guys who seem not to be sure if this post is useful or not, to put it mildly, I'd say: if you haven't got anything positive to contribute, why bother us with your meditations. And wear your keyboard.
BigRedChewingChum 6y ago
This post is rather basic, but it isn't bad and I see you've added your workout routine. That's important. Considering I haven't logged on in so long I'm not allowed to post something of my own, but consider this a sort of rebuttal and warning for seasoned members of this community as well as a handful of new guys.
This community has exploded in popularity from a couple of years ago. With that comes a natural decline in the high-quality and very specific posts that used to make this sub an actionable ladder for motivated men. I see tons of posts detailing how we all need to eat right, sleep, meditate, work on our hobbies, etc.
These are the rigors of tedium that every red-pill man must grind at before evolving into a being of value to the women they'd like to harpoon. The gold standard isn't measured by having your shit together, working on a hobby, reading, and working out. That's the bare-minimum fucking standard and should be treated as such. If you need to be reminded to stay active, not eat like shit, sleep enough, and be productive during a global pandemic where 80% of us are confined to our homes and have nothing better to do anyway then you're very, very far away from being a top-10 or even 20% man.
What I mean is this: if you're not new here and you've read the sidebar (which is required reading for posting/understanding/engaging in this sub anyway), then you'll derive very little value from the generality of these platitudes. They are the crumbs you need to sweep off the floor before you can start furnishing your living room. Don't pat yourself on the back for being generally productive; pat yourself on the back when you see actual results.
There's a lot of feel-good riff-raff and thanks bro I needed this right now jazz wafting around in the comment section of various threads. As a disclaimer, I'll interject that everyone does need some feel-good platitudes and inspiring material every once in a while, even red-pill men. It's the frequency I have a problem with. Statistically, any red-piller who's read the sidebar and taken action with regards to its many tried-and-true methodologies should very rarely 'need this right now' or even have to be constantly updated/reminded about how to socially hover a few centimeters above their pothead neighbors.
The frequency of these sorts of comments suggests either A: New users are enthusiastic about the dopamine hit they get from the advice they've read but haven't yet applied or B: The dudes on this sub are neglecting to either read and internalize the sidebar and have yet to really stick to a routine of self-betterment firmly rooted in goals and the long-term dividends achieving them will inevitably pay.
I probably ought to put my money where my mouth is, so here are some suggestions which should add a different level of resolution to the general platitudes every red-piller ought to have nailed down to some level of routine by now.
Exercise: There's a difference between exercising to get big, exercising for 'health', and training. Gym bros like ourselves bodybuild or power-lift as a foundation for strength and size. If you're not already doing this then I don't know if your reading comprehension has been stunted by autism or you're just lazy; either way, if you need to be told in weekly posts to expand the width of your biceps so females will instinctually gravitate toward your knob then you're either incredibly green or retarded.
What I suggest is to begin training. Training is the development of general athletic capabilities which include maximizing aerobic or anaerobic output while increasing strength and size as needed for the event you're training for. This includes a non-negotiable aerobic transition and base-period where your body will adapt to increasing work capacities. Cardiovascular exercise has been proven time and time again to maximize your body's ability to recover from other forms of exercise and it must be privileged and developed slowly over seasons and years, and with a method that is anything but haphazard.
As an example: I'm a rock climber and mountaineer but have been delving into alpinism lately. Thus, I'm applying the training program in the book Training for the New Alpinism. However, I'm also wary of losing muscle and strength gains and have been doing less cardio than prescribed and more strength/hypertrophy training to offset the catabolism occasionally demanded by climbing big mountains. On top of this, because the gym is closed, I've begun adding planche and front lever training to my strength routines and am making fast progress.
I'm not trying to brag here. What I'm saying is that if you're only lifting massive weight without either becoming a bonafide power-lifter or simply measuring your biceps between tren cycles then you're missing out on reaching your genetic and athletic potential. I'm squeezing in every hour of training my body can handle to reach my fitness goals and I castigate myself if I miss a workout. No fucking excuses. If you can start building an aerobic base between your big lifting days and you're not then you're not training, you're just exercising.
This boils down to having a mission. We talk about having a mission a lot here on the Red Pill and with good reason. However, it's an amorphous term. You should have a grand scheme, a big goal that all your little ones will help lead you toward, and you should call that your mission. However, you should also begin to formulate separate missions for separate domains. My fitness mission is to be visually attractive while being able to go for hours in the mountains without getting crushed by a serac, and to have some gymnastic party tricks to show off which also carry over to my climbing.
So, a piece of specific instead of general advice would be: Don't work out. Train, and do research on why these two things are different. Understand fast/slow twitch muscle fibers, understand the central governer theory, and do something besides just lifting because your body can handle it.
I could go on with this. As someone who writes fiction, it'd be easy for me to mash out 500 words and pat myself on the back. I refuse to do as such. Until I'm published and making money I'm going to grind away at the hours, and I will not allow myself an overblown sense of accomplishment until something is accomplished in the public domain as far as my books are concerned. That is, I keep the cap on the bottle of my enthusiasm while only occasionally allowing some to spill out.
This attitude steers me away from the general and into the specific. We can all get nice and comfortable working out, meditating, eating right, playing guitar, etc, and end up as relatively normal dudes with interesting hobbies that don't net big gains in the real world. Your lifestyle choices should lead to satisfaction and recognition. Ass will inevitably accompany any successful man when that man does not define success as an arbitrary number of push-ups or number of words written.
Maybe I'm just older now and don't need the sub anymore. I know I'm not wrong, though, when I say it's gotten softer. Don't let this place become an echo chamber for generalities. Be especially wary about using it to vent your feelings or validate the high you get from reading about the success of others. You didn't 'need' to read this, you didn't 'need' something to kick you into gear. If you're here and serious about using this sub as the colossally edifying resource it can be then what you need to do is take action, but do that shit with purpose. We've all got plenty of time to think, so think about how you can be the best instead of simply being good and ticking off a box of productive habits.
bulldogcoma 6y ago
Why can't you post something of your own? Anyways this is decent I like OP's post but we should work on not being comfortable but go beyond that

Those are hobbies set in stone. I do urge to take this time to be laidback, it’s the only time to appreciate the value of just chilling around. Let’s not be hypocrites. What’s important is we know what we value in ourselves and we continue on with those hobbies. It’s all about time management. Same shit, different scenario.

surfthroughlife 6y ago
This is really simple shit, but I do sympathize with individuals going through a tough time right now.
Looking at it from a habit lens, everyone's entire routine got thrown off within less then a week. Basically the same routine that most people have been operating off of for most of their lives.
This is not a normal experience and I do believe that even the most successful of us could use some tips. As someone who is usually crushing life, it took me a bit to adapt to the current situation so that I could start finding success through new techniques to get some of the same things done.
When your routines get thrown off, so do your habits as well. The only way to fix this is either to assimilate (potentially force) your old habits into this new world, or to try and integrate older habits in a new and adaptable way.
This is something that I have had to do, just in terms of making sure I made a to-do list every single morning so that I'm aware of the things I have to get done. Keep in mind I am a student in University so my needs are obviously different than someone that has been self-employed for 20 years.
Outside of that, I make sure to block out productive time blocks, then in-between areas where I either shower up, go for a run, go do some exercises or mess around on my guitar.
Which leads me to another point, building off of your "produce more" mindset, I used to play guitar a bit, but haven't played for a year. I was just at the point where I could really begin shredding some riffs, but with work, school and social obligations, it took the backseat.
Finding the silver lining, I have all the time in the world to work on my guitar skills, which has been extremely therapeutic. This doesn't mean go buy a fucking guitar, it means to find that one hobby/art form that you never had time to do before and get fucking good at it.
Be able to warm up your little fingies on a piano while seducing a woman before they go inside of her.
You have all the time in the world right now, it's just up to you to decide how to spend it.
I will probably be making a post here once I can formulate my thoughts in a more concise and less schizophrenic way.

Rupturednutsack 6y ago
This.
Stop deciding to study shit because it looks good on your CV, or because you get an ego boost from answering multiple choice questions in exchange for a Diploma in Bullshit.
Stick to useful topics, but only that which is theory, and only requires knowledge for a paying job. Usually these are low effort jobs like working in an office doing IT. You won't learn anything on a welding or electrical course when you're not welding or fitting electrics. Despite these being more "useful" so to speak.
Alqpzmyv 6y ago
Better to go for professional certificates, like those tied to specific programs or platforms.
Zech4riah 6y ago
Once again a list of basic things you should be doing anyway regardless if there is quarantine or not.
MrMatmaka 6y ago
I agree with this in general, but I would go so far as to say that well written fiction can be just as thought provoking or informative as non-fiction and at times significantly more interesting. Historically based fiction is especially good in this category. Stuff like HBO's Chernobyl series of Netflix's Narcos, while certainly not completely accurate, give an interesting and very digestible format through which to learn something and certainly sparked an interest in me in learning about the actual historical events.

I'm halfway through Aristotle's Ethics. It's good.
How is Nietzsche? He's somewhere in my line-up.
[deleted] 6y ago
Do yourself a favour put down Aristotle, save yourself years of reading and just jump straight to Schopenhauer, don't believe me? pick any short essay by him and see for yourself
chopping_livers 6y ago
Will check him out, thanks!
DerpJungler 6y ago
I love me some greek philosophy. There's so much knowledge in every few words.
Nietzsche makes me question everything. I usually get lost in his words but what I gain from reading his work is that men need to rethink their values, the concept of religion and to find a stronger meaning in their lives.
Of course, I'm no philosopher and I'm still new to this kind of literature. I appreciate how every sentence is open to different interpretations and I try to explain and comprehend things in my own way.
chopping_livers 6y ago
So not a lot of answers but a lot of good questions. Sounds perfect. Glad I bought his books too.
Thanks for the post.
One more thing - do you talk to someone about what you have read and your interpretation of it to strengthen your understanding? Or is it just you?
Reading Aristotle, I've thought about joining/making a book club to discuss his ideas. It's a lot to take in.
DerpJungler 6y ago
This is a great question. Sadly, I do not discuss anything with anyone. My friends are not book-readers, my girls read fiction, my family finds my book-reading "corny" because they'd rather waste their time watching TV and playing video games.
So yeah, I do not discuss them with friends/family. I usually find good discussions online though and occasionally I jump in. Thank god for reddit lol
chopping_livers 6y ago
The same for me.
I've got to make that book club thing happen one way or another.

Don't beat your fucking dick either for the love of god.
ImAlmostCooler 6y ago
Yeah, this nofap shit is weird and most definitely not for everyone. Not everyone has a libido so low that they can’t get it up for a girl just cause they beat their dick twice a day.
Might have it’s place for some people, but I definitely have a problem with it being so broadly prescribed. If I didn’t jack off in this quarantine I’d be humping the walls by day 3.
JaevonTheDon 6y ago
Going against your bodies biolgy (to reproduce) will make you even more attractive because the body thinks your a hit with women when you jerk off, just think back to tribe times. Your fucking genes don't know what porn is lol. Basically exploitation if you really disect porn. SO when you stop watching porn it makes you attractive because your body so desprately wants to reproduce.
ImAlmostCooler 6y ago
1] Citation needed. I’m tired of all this pseudoscientific shit on TRP. Yes, our bodies are programmed a certain way from millions of years of evolution. No, you can’t just extrapolate hypotheses from your assumptions about this and present them as fact.

I rather order healthy food, so I don't have to spend any time and energy buying the ingredients, preparing the meal, cooking/baking, cleaning up the mess etc.

Yes. Cooking should be number one. Because what woman DOESNT get impressed by a man who cooks (and possibly catches) his own food.
And I'm enjoying Paradise Lost. Great book. Even though I'm not on quarantine.

Day trading is as much a skill as sports gambling is - waste of time
That said this quarantine is a gift if you view it right. Use this time to launch a business (or get the foundation set up for one), learn something, work on your house, etc

Monkeys routinely pick better stocks then hedge fund managers. Source:Thinking Fast and Slow. The market goes up over time, day trading can swing either way and is basically random.

Nice meme, reposting what you've read without actually trying it yourself. I know of people that have built up nice extra savings from day trading, they don't live off of it but it's a hell of a lot more useful than binging Netflix.

I gave you an authoritative source from a book I re-read every year, not a meme, and I have tried it myself to little avail. Say I suck at it, sure, but the data stand.

Let's see some book recommendations! Also if you lack any gym equipment, check out this ole grinder PT session, called Master Chief Matto's BUD/s Grinder PT: http://www.extremesealexperience.com/Seal-Pt\_Matto-Buds-Pt
It's all body weight, full body exercises, can scale the exercises to fit your experience levels, and should be able to complete within an hour.

I'd like to emphasize point #2 about cooking.
Cooking is amazing. It's healthy. It's cheap. It's a lifelong skill. It will impress your family and friends. And lemme tell you, it will absolutely impress anyone you're trying to date.

I do see the value in the post as sort of a PSA, but it's pretty obvious to most people. In other news, water is wet.

lasdfab 6y ago
Can't really learn a martial art through youtube videos, you'd just be reinforcing shitty technique if there's no one to correct you

Lol yep, that was some of the stupidest advice I've ever seen, I remember watching a old home/training/instruction video (long time ago) with some other black belts and we would spend hours together trying to figure it out, like on the floor
