Ask yourself: how many pull-ups a day can you do? If you were to consistently do pull-ups daily/every other day, how many would you be able to do? What was the most you’ve ever done in a day in your life?
The answer will vary depending on the reader. For many people, the answer is zero. They have never been able to do a single pull up, and some May have never tried. For others, the answer is many. For some, the answer is hundreds. For me personally, about 75. Last summer it was about double that, but I have fallen out of practice until recently, when I picked it up again.
Pull-ups are more than just an exercise movement that leads to stronger arms, shoulders, and back. A daily or every other day pull up routine can lead to a very disciplined mind. Once you realize you can look like brad Pitt by just doing 100-200 pull-ups daily and eating a strict fish/chicken/carbs diet, you will be less likely to piss your gains away at the bar that weekend.
This post is not about fitness, it is about having a disciplined mind and the core tenants of the redpill relating to the philosophy of pull-ups. There are far, far too many posts on here of little boys complaining about women’s antics on social media and being blatantly disrespected by females on here. While I do think that the men’s rights aspect of this rp philosophy has many great truths, a girl disrespecting you on Facebook has nothing to do with this subreddit
My point is, If you did 100-200 pull ups a day, you would not be on here whining about how you can’t get laid because you are a simp. You would be working on yourself and when someone disrespected you, you would laugh in their face. Some of the material on this sub these days has very little to do with redpill philosophy. Maybe, you would start to understand it better if you took some time to stop reading this, reflected on your life, and became more disciplined.

I usually use 50 to 80 lbs plus my own weight for a couple sets of 6 to 12.

Speaking of pull ups, what's everyone's solution for pull ups at home? I rent an apartment so I can't exactly set up a hard-mounted pull-up bar into the walls. I've thought about those removable bars that you can set up but heard that they can be pretty dangerous and that people have fallen and seriously hurt themselves because they're not reliably stable.
Definitely one of the exercises I miss the most about the gym but not sure what to do.
banana_apple_pear 6y ago
You can look around in your neighbourhood, maybe there's a children's playground where you can do pull-ups, or a bus stop (look at this video of the ghetto gym (24 hour workout) for inspiration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCdRgAQ-rwA) (regarding playgrounds, I prefer to go in the evenings when the children are gone).
Another option is indeed using one of those removable bars. I had one like this one for years: https://cf.shopee.ph/file/d04205823e71eb995de5835c765dae6a I used it many times in two different houses and never fell down once. Just be careful your house is strong enough; don't destroy your doorpost by screwing it in too tightly.

First Week 1 - 2 - 1 - 1- 2+ AMRAP
Second Week 2 3 2 2 3+ AMRAP
Third Week 3 4 3 3 4
etc...
This keeps me going very well. Did a slightly change because too much as a start didn't work well.
Atm I am with 6 8 6 6 10
But I can only encourage... you see great results. And keep in mind. Only do full reps and do them properly!

My morning pullup routine is, do 20, wait 30 seconds, do 10, wait 20 seconds, do 5. Busy myself for a few minutes and repeat. Then go on with my day.
alphaonthecomeup 6y ago
Being able to do 100 pull ups as a workout is already an above average accomplishment - probably not for a lot of us ;)
Imagine doing 200 in a workout. I accept your challenge.
alphaonthecomeup 6y ago
Update: just completed 200 pull ups , it took me a full hour. A lot of excuses were popping in my head at times to stop, but I persisted and I feel good.
Definitely looking forward to making this the new norm.
Thanks for the challenge.
xxxthrowmeawayxxxx 6y ago
Do fewer with weight. Best progression for you if you can already do 200. Start easy, maybe sets of 5-8 with 10lbs. Build from there. Make sure descent is controlled, added weight makes injury more likely.
source: I did 100 with 22lbs in 30 minutes. Been rock climbing for 10+ years.
alphaonthecomeup 6y ago
Big facts bro. When the gyms reopen I’m gonna get myself a belt where I can attach weights and start getting serious.
A couple years back I used to be able to do a plate for 4 sets of 8. I wonder if I still could. Regardless ima work my way back.
Brodin69 6y ago
I would consistently get 120ish pullups in a p90x leg and back workout. I also throw in pullups between my sets at the gym. can never get too much back work in.

Doing 100 pull-ups in however many sets every other day will get you to 200 in a month.
alphaonthecomeup 6y ago
I can probably already get to 200 , I’ve been doing 150 lately. I just don’t want to over work my back and potentially snap my shit up.
I’ll report back soon
chopping_livers 6y ago
Keep your pace man, I'm just saying a number like 200 is possible.
[deleted] 6y ago
i like to do 10 sets of 5 every 2 days and youre right it does weirdly good things for your entire body
noobish_senpai 6y ago
Would you say you get better results by doing it 10/5? Im currently doing 4 sets to failure + I try to squeeze in additional reps after said failure. I cant complain, I have made some serious progress butnI would love your insight on the matter.
[deleted] 6y ago
man look up devon larratt. hes a world class arm wrestler. he never trains to failure but always does a bit more the next day. i beleive his training philosphy is on point.
you know your body best. more you push the better in my opinion.

Vynxe-Vainglory 6y ago
I’m so glad someone said this.
Please stop training to failure, people.
Do half as many reps as you can do, or feel it out until you’re just barely beginning to feel burn or a diminishing in strength, and take a long rest (5 mins+). Do tons of sets in this way. You’ll get strong as fuck.
I theorize that 5x5, 10x5 and 10x3 became things as simplified, morphed, shittier versions of what I’ve attempted to describe above.
Look into the work of Pavel Tsatsouline for a much better explanation.
Nocryingok 6y ago
im getting much, much stronger after listening to Pavel's advice
grease the groove, boys
MadCuntCuddles 6y ago
Train to failure then do negatives
noobish_senpai 6y ago
You misunderstand, I don't do 4×5, I do more reps plus additional reps. But overall you are right.
Kingern 6y ago
Not disregarding what you're saying but you can ask this anywhere and get a different answer every time
I've only started training to failure after hearing it recently
Seems to be very difficult to cut through the noise for lifting information
[deleted] 6y ago
thats hog wash. youre telling me you wont see more benifets from doing twice as many sets.
i find many people can tell you how to do it but i know my body best. 10 sets of 5 gets me torqed.
[deleted]
[deleted] 6y ago
complete and utter horse shit buddy. like i said. i know my body.
youre a classic gatekeeper
xxxthrowmeawayxxxx 6y ago
I partially agree with u/Phaeer. Doing 10 sets of 5 every 2 days will get you strong enough to consistently do 10 sets of 5 every 2 days.

Once you can do a few sets of 10 unbroken move to weight pull ups.
my background: 10+ years rock climbing. can do 100 pullups @ 1.15x bodyweight in 30 minutes. 1RM 1.5 x bodyweight.
Whitefarmer 6y ago
This hit home for me. I contribute my entire physic to pull-ups. When my wife left me I had a pipe 7 feet up at work that literally saved my life. I couldn’t do one so I did negatives and worked my way up to 100 a day. The confidence and mental strength is life changing.
Pull-ups make you look different then a weight lifting only guy you stand out in a crowd
Walking around approaching girls with that burn in your upper body is like a cheat code I fucking love it.
Thanks for this post it’s great advice!!

100-200 pullups my ass.
Nobody schould care about such a ridicilous number.
What's important that you wake up and manage to do a bit more every day. That's self improvement
Hur durr doing 100-200 pullups is just achievement jerking and not improving
redpill_scientist92 6y ago
You’re just salty you’re out of shape
RPOpenUp 6y ago
I see that's going well for you.

Today, I do three sets of 10 slow motion clean pull-ups combined with three sets of chin-ups and three sets of max time hold Levers. Then Levers alternating extended leg for max time, until failure. I weave those into my weights routine on back days.
How many could I do in my youth? Well, I climbed the rope at Ft Benning without using legs, in just a few seconds... so I’d say a shit load. 52 now, if pressed... about 20 though the last few won’t be slow motion and clean.
Working out is discipline, pull-ups are just a goal. It doesn’t matter if your goal is a high pull up number or a crazy push-up like the Planche push-up. It’s setting a goal that’s beyond today’s reach and busting your ass to accomplish it.
xxxthrowmeawayxxxx 6y ago
how old are you? i'm working on my levers. what's your background?

This sub is getting more retarded every day.

Most of These fitness posts here are such bullshit lol. First of all the “fight club” Brad Pitt physique isn’t something you should necessarily strive for, he was just skinny. Second of all you risk unnecessary strain to your tendons and ligaments by doing that much volume; it’s absolutely not necessary. Instead you should add weight to your pull ups and all other calisthenic exercises. Before you point out those jacked YouTube calisthenic gurus you have to understand that 1. They have great genetics and would achieve the same if not better results by lifting 2. They may be on anabolic compounds 3. They are not representative of the general population.
I am a personal trainer and have competed in bodybuilding and powerlifting. I can do 35-40 pull ups straight and often do more than 100-200 total reps. I can say for at least myself it has not improved my physique, especially during quarantine. Combined with weight training? Absolutely improved. I do notice more pain in my tendons especially in my elbows.
If you want to use these high reps for a mental challenge, by all means. However do not expect a drastic change to your physique unless you are a beginner. The same progressive overload and diminishing returns principles apply.

Weighted, this is just a thing for discipline
1942eugenicist 6y ago
This is a the right mindset. The thing about pullups and pushups are that they are natural and swift. Builds habit. I agree.
boomnodaysoff63 6y ago
Bro doing that many pull ups is gonna not be sustainable for some dudes, i can do 8 in a set and i do about 40 every 2 days else my lats wouldnt be able to recover, muscle is built during recovery

Do this......

No more access to bench press so I've been doing chin-ups and dumbbell exercises during quarantine. Gotta say I'm digging the bar
PCM97 6y ago
I’ve recently been doing 10 sets of 5 every day with 10 pushups after each set. It’s actually a killer workout
hockeyaddict87 6y ago
Pushups too they are a foundation for a lot of things and it doesn’t take long to see results
Vynxe-Vainglory 6y ago
Agreed. Add all the cool push-up variations and you’ve got quite a progression to work through.
[deleted] 6y ago
Daily pull ups is a great idea. Since quarantine I've been consistently improving. A guy I know adds resistance with a weighted belt (or just some chained weight) and I'll probably start doing that when I hit 20 clean
